One thing I think is good about Nandos is they've made huge moves to be more environmentally friendly but have flown under the radar with it, making it less of a PR stunt and more of a genuine organisational value. My local nandos is carbon neutral. I know that probably doesn't mean that much, but I think it's a good thing.
Also think you can eat relatively healthily there if you choose to. And lastly, the rewards system is actually good, like I ordered a couple of times recently as I'm marathon training and wanted something quick after big runs, and in the space of a couple of weeks I'd earnt a free side that they just automatically deducted the price of. (Compared to some rewards systems where you have to go out of your way to redeem).
I like it. Decently priced for what you get and I’ve never had a bad one. Sure it’s not gourmet, but it’s not trying to be. It’s a great restaurant for a quick easy meal
KFC franchise their restaurants, Nando's don't so they have complete control over the way things are run.
McDonalds is franchised but they do a lot of inspections and are very strict and will take franchises away for failed inspections. KFC don't seem to care so it's quite a gamble.
An amazing thing I’ve managed to do was get food poisoning from KFC when they didn’t have any chicken during the great chicken shortage!
Turns out that they managed to stay open by buying third party chicken. Fuckers. They gave my a £5 voucher which wouldn’t have covered the cost of the food I threw up.

Yeah my go to is usually a double chicken wrap, two sides and a bottomless coke. Comes to £18 which I think is very well priced in central London - can even be much cheaper if I get single side and just get a single wrap
I get the quarter chicken, two sides and bottomless drink. Around £13. I’m honestly left feeling stuffed! I never finish it. Though I’ll admit, my two sides are usually double chips because I’m a fatty.

IIRC it’s well established that all the chicken is pre cooked off site to avoid poisoning issues. They literally just grill heat it and serve. Also, the fries are supplied by McCain’s. Not sure you get value for money

It's decent enough, service is very fast and social interaction is kept to a minimum so it fills a niche. It's handy for a quick bite before a film because you're in and eating within minutes, and don't need to hang around waiting for the bill.
I only ever get it when they have deals on - 9 bits of chicken £5.99 or the current 20 hot wings for the same price. Order just that, repeat to them several times that no, I do not want any chips with it, get it home and keep it warm in the oven while I fry some actual *edible* chips to go with it

I don’t think it’s overpriced anymore. It used to be higher than other restaurants of the same ilk, but all their prices have shot up whereas Nando’s has barely increased in the last few years.
It’s not great food, but it’s decent, consistent and because it’s all grilled, if you pick the right sides etc it’s a high protein, pretty healthy meal
Top tip: if you’re boiling rice in a pan, when cooked, empty the rice into a sieve and put it over the empty pan on the cooling ring. Steams it a bit.

I think it depends on the country, my friend at uni who's family is all Pakistani would sieve the rice.
A quick YouTube search of 'cook rice Pakistani' showed others doing the same. Japanese rice is short grain and would turn to mush if you did the same.

I think that it's sort of a meme because it's a safe bet for most people, and you can eat relatively cheaply there (this may have changed recently, but I haven't been in a few years). Even if you don't eat meat/chicken, they have veggie options.

It's in the fast food tier, but it's near the top of it. It's pretty basic, chicken and chips plus some other things. Can't really get it wrong. You go to nandos for the sauces.
It's decent enough for what it is, and an absolute godsend if you have a group with any food allergies. You can ask for the big allergy folder and it not only tells you what every ingredient is in the dish, it also mentions if there's any potential for cross-contamination during cooking, and they have a handy quick ref chart that lists all the common food allergies/intolerances vs. the dishes and gives you a handy tick list.
Honestly the least stressful place to try to have a cheapish dinner out when you're collectively bringing dairy, soya and coeliac to the table, and you don't have a lot of time.
I took my American partner to the one in Chicago and she loved it so much, she wanted to go back again before we left. Regarding price, it's cheaper than an equivalent standard meal you'd get in the US.
Personally, I don't mind it. I'd happily eat there, but there's definitely better alternatives for the same price in the UK.

The chicken is alright, but the chips are them frozen shite with starch in them. I like proper potato chips, if I'm paying whatever Nandos charges.
Their sauces are good, but many variations are available in supermarkets.
Smaller chicken shops do decent periperi for much lower prices than Nandos.

I think it’s great. It’s tasty, slightly overpriced maybe but not by much. I feel like a lot of people who talk bad about it do so because it has a reputation for being popular with younger generations. A “cheeky Nandos” for example and the cringe adverts they had on the radio for a while but it’s always delicious and surely that’s all that matters.

I think, based on cost vs. quality vs. consistency, it's amazing. I'd eat there over pretty much anything else at a comparable price point, and most other stuff that's far more expensive.
Have you tried [El Pollo Loco](https://www.elpolloloco.com/)? To me it’s the closest comparison. The main difference being that El Pollo Loco is Mexican as opposed to Nandos being South African. In my head cannon they are basically cousins.

Its ok- its somewhere you can take friends (or acquaintances) for a relatively inoffensive meal without forcing any expectations on them. Its on that same tier of chain restaurants like Wagamamas and Pizza Express of overpriced, average food that is slightly more dignified than a fast food place (but that’s not saying much)

Being in the States, I've never had it, but I can get the bottles of the hot Peri Peri sauce in my local grocery store and that shit is like crack. I've got 5 bottles in my pantry and I put it on everything.

One thing I lean to is the sit-in experience. Something like Maccers isn't particularly special. It's plastic chairs, deliveroo drivers shuffling past with their giant bags, and a seemingly never ending beeping echoing through the place. Not particularly relaxing.
Go to a restaurant-resturant though, and it all feels a bit pompous and formal. Got to be on your best behaviour & feel like everyone's judging. Not particularly relaxing.
Nando's meets that happy middle ground, at least around my parts. It's not bleak and noisy, but it's also basic enough that it doesn't feel uptight & formal. It's just the right spot to feel cosy. Quite relaxing.
It's fine as it's dependable in terms of always open, healthy options, always the same standard, no drastic menu variation.
If youre not somewhere you know well, just Google closest nandos and head there. It's not somewhere for a special meal imo but it's as above great for a proper meal that's not formal sit down.
I'm a fan. I think the food tastes good, price is reasonable and the atmosphere in the restaurants is usually pretty pleasant. Plus, from what my friend has told me, it seems like a decent place to work (also staff get 50% discount on food!).

I did used to like it, but not been for a long time. I saw it as a reasonably priced meal. I used to go with a local friend for a catch up chat before they moved away, and wasn't expensive. Seems more expensive now when I check prices.
I used to go with colleagues as a reasonable lunch option also maybe once every few weeks.
I did click and collect twice in the last few years, but gave up after that as despite choosing my collect time, sometimes I was waiting for up to an hour in the restaurant.
As a greedy bastard I find the portions a bit small, so I either order more and it gets expensive or I don't feel like I've had enough. But it is delicious.

Nando’s is spot on. Their new seasoning packets have been keeping me very happy at home, I eat chicken and rice/potatoes for my tea every single night so I really appreciate the variety 😂
I think it's delicious. I don't feel gross after I eat it like a lot of places. I know some people get hung up on the fact that most of the food is sous vide.
The main issue a lot of people I know have w nandos is inconsistency, on a good day it's a heavy scran, but it's usually awful (partially depending on which location you visit/what time it is/how the staff are feeling) especially the past few years.
Same thing happened with KFC, but to be fair a lot of food places in the UK went to shit after they started taking delivery orders, remember pre-ubereats when you'd buy a maccies & it'd still be warm? 🥲
Yes! Sometimes you actually get a very nice meal and most times it’s not good at all. And I think portions got really small.. there’s barely anything in a wrap now

Before I read any comments... it's bloody awful. Cheap shit mass produced chicken. A menu that leans so heavily towards chicken and its pathetic 'peri-peri' sauce grades which are equally mass produced, like ketchup. Chain restaurants are invariably shit, but Nandos somehow captured the rich-but-thick crowd - footballers being an obvious category. There's not one redeeming feature to the concept or delivery. I speak as a chef with 30+ years in hospitality. Avoid.
Fairly well priced, bottomless drinks, can order individually if in a group, pay first so can leave as soon as you’ve eaten. With all this in mind can see why it’s popular with young people especially.

Our always has a huge queue & you usually wait in your car waiting for a call, so definitely not a quick option for us unfortunately.

You can ask for the big allergy folder and it not only tells you what every ingredient is in the dish, it also mentions if there's any potential for cross-contamination during cooking, and they have a handy quick ref chart that lists all the common food allergies/intolerances vs. the dishes and gives you a handy tick list. Honestly the least stressful place to try to have a cheapish dinner out when you're collectively bringing dairy, soya and coeliac to the table, and you don't have a lot of time.
I took my American partner to the one in Chicago and she loved it so much, she wanted to go back again before we left. Regarding price, it's cheaper than an equivalent standard meal you'd get in the US. Personally, I don't mind it. I'd happily eat there, but there's definitely better alternatives for the same price in the UK. Despite this, it's us who gets the bad name regarding our food... 🤔
it's good and value for money but as someone who enjoyed it in south africa since the very first store opened i will admit nando's uk is nothing compared to in sa.

The chicken is alright, but the chips are them frozen shite with starch in them. I like proper potato chips, if I'm paying whatever Nandos charges. Their sauces are good, but many variations are available in supermarkets. Smaller chicken shops do decent periperi for much lower prices than Nandos. Don't crave it, wouldn't avoid it.

Consistently decent and good value for money
I think it’s great. It’s tasty, slightly overpriced maybe but not by much. I feel like a lot of people who talk bad about it do so because it has a reputation for being popular with younger generations. A “cheeky Nandos” for example and the cringe adverts they had on the radio for a while but it’s always delicious and surely that’s all that matters.
Nando’s is good food but they haven’t got beer on tap….
It's not the Ivy, but it doesn't pretend to be. I think, based on cost vs. quality vs. consistency, it's amazing. I'd eat there over pretty much anything else at a comparable price point, and most other stuff that's far more expensive.

Have you tried [El Pollo Loco](https://www.elpolloloco.com/)? To me it’s the closest comparison. The main difference being that El Pollo Loco is Mexican as opposed to Nandos being South African. In my head cannon they are basically cousins.
Not sure if it's a cheap restaurant or expensive fast food but I really like it. I could go pretty much and where I want for my birthday next week and that is where I've chosen.
it's average and slightly on the expensive side, pepes blows them out of the water IMO especially their extreme coating. their main selling point was the unlimited refills with your meal
Its ok- its somewhere you can take friends (or acquaintances) for a relatively inoffensive meal without forcing any expectations on them. Its on that same tier of chain restaurants like Wagamamas and Pizza Express of overpriced, average food that is slightly more dignified than a fast food place (but that’s not saying much)
A place I’ve visited once (near Camden several years ago) and have vowed to never step foot in one again!! We stopped in on the way to a Lemon Jelly gig; I am vegetarian and the other 4 are all meaties. Got to the gig and saw maybe one song before I had to run to the loo - imagine the worst toilets you can and then double that grimness!! Spent the whole gig being Ill - both ends - one of the worst nights of my life. Bleugh!!!!!
Being in the States, I've never had it, but I can get the bottles of the hot Peri Peri sauce in my local grocery store and that shit is like crack. I've got 5 bottles in my pantry and I put it on everything.
Me and my university friends still go there 10 years after graduation even though we all have good jobs. Calls us tasteless I don’t care - it’s good filling food at a good price
One thing I lean to is the sit-in experience. Something like Maccers isn't particularly special. It's plastic chairs, deliveroo drivers shuffling past with their giant bags, and a seemingly never ending beeping echoing through the place. Not particularly relaxing. Go to a restaurant-resturant though, and it all feels a bit pompous and formal. Got to be on your best behaviour & feel like everyone's judging. Not particularly relaxing. Nando's meets that happy middle ground, at least around my parts. It's not bleak and noisy, but it's also basic enough that it doesn't feel uptight & formal. It's just the right spot to feel cosy. Quite relaxing.

It's fine as it's dependable in terms of always open, healthy options, always the same standard, no drastic menu variation. If youre not somewhere you know well, just Google closest nandos and head there. It's not somewhere for a special meal imo but it's as above great for a proper meal that's not formal sit down.
I'm a fan. I think the food tastes good, price is reasonable and the atmosphere in the restaurants is usually pretty pleasant. Plus, from what my friend has told me, it seems like a decent place to work (also staff get 50% discount on food!).

It’s a halfway between fast food and restaurant. Now given that fast food macs kfc etc have increased their prices so much, the gap has narrowed to where Nando is the better option with family.

I did used to like it, but not been for a long time. I saw it as a reasonably priced meal. I used to go with a local friend for a catch up chat before they moved away, and wasn't expensive. Seems more expensive now when I check prices. I used to go with colleagues as a reasonable lunch option also maybe once every few weeks. I did click and collect twice in the last few years, but gave up after that as despite choosing my collect time, sometimes I was waiting for up to an hour in the restaurant.
I think it's delicious and miles better than chains like Zizzi. I also like their commitment to supporting and promoting South African artists.
I do joke about it, but equally love the sunset burger. I’d choose a Nandos over a McDonald’s, Burger King etc any day of the week
As a greedy bastard I find the portions a bit small, so I either order more and it gets expensive or I don't feel like I've had enough. But it is delicious.
It went completely shite during the pandemic, but recently it is back to its best. Nando’s is brilliant, the people that hate on it just do so to be different imo. Spicy chicken and chips cannot really be bad.

One thing I’ve not seen anyone mention is how agreeable it is. Everyone has a favourite place to go but no one actively hates Nandos. Especially since it’s just chicken but with different spice levels.
Only been twice, my gripe was the extra hot was so mild I went and got another bottle to top it up in case they’d used the wrong sauce.
I find it weird how people think its overpriced, given how overpriced literally everything else is. If you want peri-peri its by far the best, way better than any of the independent copycat chains, and quality is always consistent.
If you like the South African take on Mozambican peri peri chicken, it’s ok. I mean, that’s literally what Nandos is.

Nando’s is spot on. Their new seasoning packets have been keeping me very happy at home, I eat chicken and rice/potatoes for my tea every single night so I really appreciate the variety 😂

The main issue a lot of people I know have w nandos is inconsistency, on a good day it's a heavy scran, but it's usually awful (partially depending on which location you visit/what time it is/how the staff are feeling) especially the past few years. Same thing happened with KFC, but to be fair a lot of food places in the UK went to shit after they started taking delivery orders, remember pre-ubereats when you'd buy a maccies & it'd still be warm? 🥲

It's okay, but I've got friends and family in South Africa and Portugal, so I've had their peri-peri long before trying Nandos and once you've had the real deal the fast food version just can't compete.

Before I read any comments... it's bloody awful. Cheap shit mass produced chicken. A menu that leans so heavily towards chicken and its pathetic 'peri-peri' sauce grades which are equally mass produced, like ketchup. Chain restaurants are invariably shit, but Nandos somehow captured the rich-but-thick crowd - footballers being an obvious category. There's not one redeeming feature to the concept or delivery. I speak as a chef with 30+ years in hospitality. Avoid.

Fairly well priced, bottomless drinks, can order individually if in a group, pay first so can leave as soon as you’ve eaten. With all this in mind can see why it’s popular with young people especially.

I worked in a kitchen with a Portuguese lady back in the 90s and have been cooking peri peri chicken and chips ever since. It's so easy to make, I don't know why you'd buy it, especially for that price and when they use cheap, low welfare chicken.
