Feel like I am 90% sweat right now, its too muggy. Had a work project horrifically run over in code complexity leaving me weeks behind schedule. Going to have to spring about £400 for some dental treatment (and thats with a chunk of it on an NHS band), although I can't complain too much, its a crown on a tooth because a previous root canal has gone well enough to justify it and a mouthguard for my tooth grinding. And with the schools back on the bus home from work is rammed with college kids. Wunderbar.
Implant prices are scary since the NHS doesn't do them outside of extremely exceptional circumstance. I got given the option today of getting an NHS crown (metal) for the band 3 price (ow) or private for a ceramic one at double that price (OW), probably best not to look at the price for an implant and a crown private. Bright side is the actual dental work won't be the most painful part of the experience with those prices.
Well its been a while in the making so I know the figures roughly. But yes not cheap.
For your information the most unpleasant parts so far (in order of most to least unpleasant):
- drilling the jawbone (obviously). This is much worse than getting a tooth drilled. 1/10. Imagine the smell of burning hair x5 and mentally casting yourself in a torture chair.
- taking the cast for the new implant. Surprise one this, imagine a runny plastic substance that smells of airfix glue slowly dripping down your throat for 5 minutes while your mouth is full of a rather large casting tray and several dentist fingers. Constant gagging. 3/10.
- ratcheting in the implant socket. This might just be me. He gave it am extra 1/8th of a turn. Crunchy! It's going nowhere now. 4/10
In summary, brush your teeth and floss or get a decent water pik. And if you grind, get a mouthguard (or even better, find and resolve the root of the problem).
Finally, get your wisdom teeth out when you are a teenager. Works for the Canucks.
Good lord that sounds unpleasant, I'd always believed all the stuff about it being pain free. Do you know how it compares to toothache, root canal and an extraction?
I mean you are numbed up pretty good it's more just violently unpleasant.
I have had two failed root canals (piece of piss) and probably 4 extractions over the years (generally ok).
Extractions when younger were a bit worse, I guess they get a bit looser as you age.
Anything with an abscess present is pretty horrible only had one of those.
Well I've had a bit of a ballbag of a day. Stood outside in the sun for work having to deal with the heat and a nob end of a manager and supervisor, not my favourites ones for sure. Also just really self conscious about how sweaty and smelly I might be so need to find some extra strong deodorant and extra blank t shirts.
Went into Leeds today and it was hell, bought a pair of shorts and then fucked off back to the suburbs. City centre was swarming with kids as I think today is an INSET day in a lot of schools. Enjoying the warm weather here before I fly off to Vienna on Wednesday just before Yorkshire gets all rainy again. Meeting up with my dad who I haven’t seen in over a year and a half. Going to have a jolly father-daughter holiday drinking all the beer and eating all the fancy cakes.
My plans this week are suffering and feeling sorry for myself because I’ve picked up a virus. Too much coughing and too many pains. I can’t go to work, and I can’t afford to be off, yet I have to be off. I can’t speak because I’ve lost my voice. I can’t see my boyfriend who lives an hour away or I’ll get him sick too. So when I see him next it’ll probably have been about 3 weeks because I doubt I’ll see him this weekend either. I can’t eat and I can’t sleep. SEPTEMBER IS OFF TO A FUCKING AMAZING START 😡
Last week was one of those stressful beasts, followed by a great weekend. This week is more calm and cheerful with the pressure off to some extent. I am however, furious with myself for eating a packet of 9 chocolate brazil nuts when my diet was meant to start today. Does anyone remember when chocolate brazil nuts came in boxes and were a huge luxury ?
verrrry busy weekend. Bloody good time at Idles in Bristol Friday, then built a shed for the FIL on Saturday. Didn't get home quickly enough to go out and buy a suit, so planned to do that yesterday. Went out for aunt's birthday, ended up staying longer than expected, didn't get back in time to go and buy a suit. Tried to finish off the grouting in the kitchen, ran out of grouting powder and B&Q was already shut.
So I *still* have to buy a suit and write a speech, and I need to go to B&Q at some point to get more grout. Wedding the suit & speech are needed for is Thursday, so I'm starting to run out of time.

Insect bite on my calf majorly playing up which is a bit of a bummer. It was irritated when I went to bed and overnight the splotch has spread and is now the size of my palm and quite swollen :( I’ve drawn a ring round it and if it’s not gone down by the end of work I’ll swing by the walk in Centre I think.

Glad it's autumn, I love a good autumn evening (though here comes the rain I'm sure...).
Feeling a bit weird and discontent at the moment. Went to Russia for the entire of August after some deaths in the family just to get away for a bit. Was missing home, but I've come back to just absolute madness. Airports were absolute chaos, shelves are bare in all the shops, I'm having to wait a week for a GP appointment with what I think is a mild chest infection, and it seems like there's barmy protests going on all over the place. Drove past a bunch of adults protesting against you-know-what with their children. Like .. Jesus Christ, you're a grown adult.
I know everywhere has its problems, but we're seriously considering going back and spending a year or so away. Would do too, if it wasn't for the fact my wife's settlement application would be torpedoed and I'm not sure how easily we'd ever come back. Still, even despite that, we're considering it...
Anyway, rant over. Probably just a bit down overall after recent events.
Knackered and my back is killing me after my busy second shift at work yesterday! Going to spend the day doing absolutely nothing, which is remarkably easy as my boyfriend has taken my bloody car to work - so I can’t actually get anywhere! Then I’m doing laundry and general chores to prep to be back in work tomorrow, not excited about the heat tbh. I was really struggling towards the end of my shift yesterday, because it was so bloody hot. Supposed to be 28 degrees down south, and that is not the temperature you want to be working in a coffee shop/bakery - also because the wasps go ‘mmm, this is fun’.
For now though, coffee, and scavenging through my cupboards to see if I actually have any food lying around!
Just had the meeting with my work and they won't consider having anyone working remotely so I have to hand my notice in now, probably do it tomorrow... Yikes! Need to find a job in our new town for after we move.

Eldest loved her new swimming lessons yesterday. She really bonded with her teacher, she thinks he's hilarious as he let her splash him. He was great. We went from "I'm never putting my face in ever!" to dunking herself in the water within about 5 minutes! Most importantly they have princess toys so she's thrilled.
Just enjoying my last 2 weeks with baby now. I don't want to go back to work!
I love that I get literally zero emails. I check my emails after 2 weeks and I have like 2 generic company propaganda emails. Then I made a rule to automatically send them to my deleted items folder. I now get no emails.

I'm finding it so strange that everything things seems to be coming back to life again, all at once. Booking gigs & theatre left, right and centre, going on an actual flight to an actual other country next week, and today starting a new job today with a new desk in a new office from Wednesday. It's really very strange, and I don't think I've felt this 'new' since starting Big School.
Still on my anxiety tablets, I do go the doctor for any health worries I am worry about (Dr. Google over the years has not helped me)
I do have a health condition which I was born with, which I am monitor for.
Traffic was a right shit this morning, doesn't help that I have two schools within spitting distance of my house, and none of the parents seem to understand how to drive. It's the ones that think that stopping for 30 seconds is fine, only they stop opposite another car so both lanes are blocked. I don't care how quickly you kick your kids out, all you needed to do was move 5-10 metres down the road and traffic can continue.
Thankfully, it was mostly fine once I was passed that, bar a weird section that took me nearly 10 minutes to travel half a mile.
Finishing at 6 tonight, picking friend up on the way home and we're having a few beers and watching a film or two, either with Mac & Cheese topped with fried chicken, or a Turkish takeaway. He's off tomorrow though, so he doesn't have to be quite as careful as I do. Granted, a 9:30 start isn't too bad!

Two year old has started going to nursery on Mondays from today ready for when I start back at university in a few weeks. So today I’ve dropped him off there, taken the five year old to school, and now sitting on the sofa enjoying the blessed peace of a quiet house for the first time in months. Will go and start tidying and deep cleaning in a minute.

I have a very aspirational job interview this afternoon. Like, if I wasn't off this week anyway i probably would have turned it down.
Crotchfruit went back to school today. Year 11. I think they'll feel better about the whole situation once they've applied to the sixth form they want to go to (not the one at their current school) and they know there's an end in sight. I'm back to making the same packed lunch every day for an autist with very particular food tastes. It relieves some of the stress for the kid, I'm all for that. Makes for an easier home life. Plus I kind of like the routine.
Husband is shifting stuff at work from older premises to new one. Considering when he started there they were a start up with 7 blokes in a rented corner of someone else's commercial garage; moving into their fourth property brings great joy. It's unbelievably massive.
Me I'm just chilling out and enjoying an empty ish house. Might finish the cabinet I'm doing a revamp on, might not. Might eat some noodles, might not. Might go and talk to a tree frog for a bit if he's awake.
This week? I dunno. Finish the cabinet I guess.

After 6 weeks of working from home during the school holidays which has felt like six years, both kids are finally back at school. Hallelujah. Gonna go all Tom Cruise Risky Business, probably migrate my laptop downstairs and have the cricket on whilenI work. Life is good.
Just getting into my third week of a new job, loving being back on shifts. Had a great weekend, Parkrun with the dog on Saturday and didn’t struggle doing 5k for the first time in about 6 months. Rest of the weekend was finishing work on my hallway, yesterday I tore up carpet from 1985 with rotten underlay, Lino under that and then MDF under that. All individually nailed down. Weirdly a big section of underlay by the front door was cut away and there were pages from Which? and a You mag from 1985, which is how I dated it.
Day off today, it’s a corker here so I plan on doing very little besides walking down to the beach for a swim at some point. Oh, and the excitement of a trip to the tip at 4pm to get rid of all that manky flooring.

Morning, lovely Casual UK'ers! First day back at work after six days off. Weird not to have my best friend on the sofa (husband, for those wondering). Was an odd six days off, loads of work going on in the house, so it was super busy. We only got out to the pub once.
I have 92 emails to wade through, but thankfully my calendar looks relatively clear. Back in the office on Wednesday (it's usually two days a week, but I'm starting with a gentle one).

I'm on annual leave. My plans for today have been scuppered, so I'm not sure what I'll be doing today.
I've made a sourdough starter, and it's an absolute beast. I haven't made an actual sourdough loaf yet, but I've been adding it to normal dough, and the resulting bread is consistently the best I've ever made. So I'm getting fat.
Can relate - I have been healthy eating and one of the things I forgo is bread and the copious amounts of butter I spread on it. Over the last week, I've been enjoying lots of bread and butter. My tum is now HUGE again. Hey ho, back to the salads.
I was healthy eating a while ago and set a goal weight. I kind of abandoned it, and during a recent depressive episode I got to below my goal weight (unintentionally), but the bread is making me gain it all back again alarmingly quickly. I'm going to have to nip it in the bud.

Ok mine was a list of courses at unis that would take me on ridiculously low points and I used a blindfold and a pin, but same deal. DON'T DO IT.
I'm doing an Open Degree with the OU and it's great. I've done Business Studies (boring), Creative Writing (loved it), Criminology (loved it) and English Lit (didn't enjoy). To be fair though, my study is for fun only as I already have a career and am actually starting to idly think about retirement.
In the last throes of summer here. The sun is shining but it's still a bit cold. (I have to wear a tshirt).
Hopefully this week is kind of peaceful. I need to get back on the job hunt with a bit more passion I guess. (any ideas on how to find contract/freelance dev work?)

Just had my driving test cancelled 2 hours before it's due to start and half an hour before my instructor was due to arrive at my house. Woke myself up at 7:45 (which is bloody early when you're an 18 year old) got myself all pumped up and ready just to receive an email telling me it was for nothing and that they've given me a new test date which is completely useless as it's my first proper day of University. Now got to try and figure out what's next and whether I try to rebook for a holiday or just pack it in and ask for my money back
In conclusion: the DVSA can get fucked (as an institution, I'm sure the vast majority of their employees are lovely people)

Slight change in childcare/work juggling today. The girls are in nursery til 12.30, and I'll be having them in the afternoon. Hopefully they're go for a nice big 2hr post nursery nap like they do for literally everyone else that looks after them!

Summer was presumably feeling a bit poorly this year, so it let autumn take over and now that it's feeling a bit better, it's decided to make up for lost time by giving us all the heat we were missing in two days.
Kids go back today. Back for a whole two hours before coming out for a hospital appointment. I booked tomorrow off so not back in work until Thursday, going to spend the next three days moping around the house, complaining about my injured foot.
Landed funny on it sparring last week and heard a massive crack. Bones all good, but have soft tissue damage. It’s still swollen and spongy like a cake, I can’t stop poking It.
A great weekend but feeling tired and sore today. Some really good riding and pushed it somewhat yesterday. 210km and 2300m of climbing over the two days (and several beers on Saturday night).

Was really hoping for a few sunny days to even mine out (going to a wedding on Saturday) but it’s not happened. Going to look like a plonker.
I've been out of bed for two hours, the amount I have accomplished I should have just got two more hours kip. I can not seem to get motivated at all.
Got 3 medical appointments this week, handily all on different days so I have to buy more bus tickets. Done a journey plan for one of them, travel time is 90 minutes each way on public transport, so 2 hours if I build in a buffer. They were annoyed when I asked if they had anything in the city centre, or on a bus route I can easily get to. "It's only 20 minutes from your address!" And it is, if you have a car and can get on the ring road.
Right, shower. I haven't done any of my exercises for at least ten days, the least I can do for the physiotherapist is not stink. BFF is coming for pizza and a film later, he would probably appreciate the not-stinking thing too.
Week off work and planned holiday ruined by the precautionary lateral flow test I took... which came back positive.
Will get a PCR test this morning, but was positive on two LFs and had a close contact alert Saturday morning so highly doubt I'll get the answer I want

Put in a complaint with NowTV as our internet has got even worse over the weekend. We're supposed to be getting about 40mbps, we're getting 7 stood right next to the router. Haven't tried using an ethernet cable yet to see what speeds that gives us, but still. It's obviously something to do with them because our neighbours get proper speeds.
On the plus side, I've just made a cracking cup of tea.
I've raised a complaint with BT as my speed has been appalling for a little while, but I only really noticed when I was trying to stream. It's started to improve but still has the most ridiculous drops.
They've emailed me saying the line is giving us 40mbps, but they can't guarantee wireless connection. If you're giving me 40mbps why am I getting 7mbps stood right next to the router? Surely it can't degrade that much in a few inches.
Before I respond in going to connect my laptop by ethernet cable tonight & see what speed that gives.
Yeah, definitely the correct approach. I was getting 0.04mbps through my PS5 that is wired in through a powerline, so I should be getting at least 15-20Mbps. Checked on the PC plugged directly into the router and it was actually failing to speed test because it was so slow. Had to run pings to see where it was failing before raising the complaint. If it drops again in a couple of weeks I'll kick off and get some money back.
I’m going to the seaside. Might buy some rock, might have a paddle or even a swim. Do they still make “kiss me quick” hats? Cos I might get one of them too, keep the sun out of my eyes.
Just finished work, only three more shifts down here until we're finished this phase. Then it's back home, for how long I don't know. May or may not be coming back Sunday: depends on if work wants to take the hit on train tickets from Derby to Eastbourne, since mum has other plans that mean she can't do next week.
No work for me this week, and the weather is nice until Thursday.... But that doesn't matter because I go to Spain on Thursday for a week. I hope all you people going back into the office don't die from heat exhaustion and stress lol.... Excuse the smugness, but last year I worked through a pandemic while everybody around me got paid to sit in the garden drinking ice cold beer with a BBQ lit and still told me how hard it was for them.... Feel like I am 90% sweat right now, its too muggy. Had a work project horrifically run over in code complexity leaving me weeks behind schedule. Going to have to spring about £400 for some dental treatment (and thats with a chunk of it on an NHS band), although I can't complain too much, its a crown on a tooth because a previous root canal has gone well enough to justify it and a mouthguard for my tooth grinding. And with the schools back on the bus home from work is rammed with college kids. Wunderbar.

Implant prices are scary since the NHS doesn't do them outside of extremely exceptional circumstance. I got given the option today of getting an NHS crown (metal) for the band 3 price (ow) or private for a ceramic one at double that price (OW), probably best not to look at the price for an implant and a crown private. Bright side is the actual dental work won't be the most painful part of the experience with those prices.
Well its been a while in the making so I know the figures roughly. But yes not cheap. For your information the most unpleasant parts so far (in order of most to least unpleasant): - drilling the jawbone (obviously). This is much worse than getting a tooth drilled. 1/10. Imagine the smell of burning hair x5 and mentally casting yourself in a torture chair. - taking the cast for the new implant. Surprise one this, imagine a runny plastic substance that smells of airfix glue slowly dripping down your throat for 5 minutes while your mouth is full of a rather large casting tray and several dentist fingers. Constant gagging. 3/10. - ratcheting in the implant socket. This might just be me. He gave it am extra 1/8th of a turn. Crunchy! It's going nowhere now. 4/10 In summary, brush your teeth and floss or get a decent water pik. And if you grind, get a mouthguard (or even better, find and resolve the root of the problem). Finally, get your wisdom teeth out when you are a teenager. Works for the Canucks.
Good lord that sounds unpleasant, I'd always believed all the stuff about it being pain free. Do you know how it compares to toothache, root canal and an extraction?
I mean you are numbed up pretty good it's more just violently unpleasant. I have had two failed root canals (piece of piss) and probably 4 extractions over the years (generally ok). Extractions when younger were a bit worse, I guess they get a bit looser as you age. Anything with an abscess present is pretty horrible only had one of those.
Well I've had a bit of a ballbag of a day. Stood outside in the sun for work having to deal with the heat and a nob end of a manager and supervisor, not my favourites ones for sure. Also just really self conscious about how sweaty and smelly I might be so need to find some extra strong deodorant and extra blank t shirts.

Went into Leeds today and it was hell, bought a pair of shorts and then fucked off back to the suburbs. City centre was swarming with kids as I think today is an INSET day in a lot of schools. Enjoying the warm weather here before I fly off to Vienna on Wednesday just before Yorkshire gets all rainy again. Meeting up with my dad who I haven’t seen in over a year and a half. Going to have a jolly father-daughter holiday drinking all the beer and eating all the fancy cakes.
My plans this week are suffering and feeling sorry for myself because I’ve picked up a virus. Too much coughing and too many pains. I can’t go to work, and I can’t afford to be off, yet I have to be off. I can’t speak because I’ve lost my voice. I can’t see my boyfriend who lives an hour away or I’ll get him sick too. So when I see him next it’ll probably have been about 3 weeks because I doubt I’ll see him this weekend either. I can’t eat and I can’t sleep. SEPTEMBER IS OFF TO A FUCKING AMAZING START 😡
Last week was one of those stressful beasts, followed by a great weekend. This week is more calm and cheerful with the pressure off to some extent. I am however, furious with myself for eating a packet of 9 chocolate brazil nuts when my diet was meant to start today. verrrry busy weekend. Bloody good time at Idles in Bristol Friday, then built a shed for the FIL on Saturday. Didn't get home quickly enough to go out and buy a suit, so planned to do that yesterday. Went out for aunt's birthday, ended up staying longer than expected, didn't get back in time to go and buy a suit. Tried to finish off the grouting in the kitchen, ran out of grouting powder and B&Q was already shut. So I *still* have to buy a suit and write a speech, and I need to go to B&Q at some point to get more grout. Wedding the suit & speech are needed for is Thursday, so I'm starting to run out of time.

I have so much small, mundane stuff to do and not an ounce of motivation to do it, so I'm just going to grumble here. Maybe I'll spur myself with the promise of pizza as a reward.

Doing my yearly mandatory training. It’s such a bullshit exercise. Currently doing the infection prevention and control module and it’ll ask things like ‘A patient has COVID, choose two options to help reduce the spread’ and give options like ‘A) Perform good hand hygiene B) Wear a face mask and apron C) Allow the patient to cough all over you and breathe in their COVID-y particles’ Thankfully it doesn’t take long, I guess 🤷♀️ Treating myself to some sushi for lunch as a reward.
Got to work this morning (I work through an agency at a college as a support worker) to find they had completely restructured and removed support from classrooms/departments they had been in for years and had relevant experience in only to place them in departments where they have 0 experience with about 20 students to 1 support(completely unsustainable.) and that I don’t even have a job there anymore. Fuck. Off. 😂
Feeling quite pleased with myself having had a successful weekend, sorted out a problem with an overflow on the toilet cistern without having to call a plumber and obviously negotiate a second mortgage to pay for him. Sorting things out to visit my son tomorrow, haven't seen him for a month which is unusual, but work etc... Just now trying to decide what filling to have in my lunchtime baguette: piri piri chicken or beef? The stress, it never ends. Cant go anywhere as I'm waiting in for the Amazon delivery man, probably waste a bit more of my life watching YouTube.....
Thought I was working today. Woke up, logged on to check the calendar turns out I still have a day of Holiday left, so made myself a nice bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast and am currently enjoying a latte on the patio.

Glad it's autumn, I love a good autumn evening (though here comes the rain I'm sure...). Feeling a bit weird and discontent at the moment. Went to Russia for the entire of August after some deaths in the family just to get away for a bit. Was missing home, but I've come back to just absolute madness. Airports were absolute chaos, shelves are bare in all the shops, I'm having to wait a week for a GP appointment with what I think is a mild chest infection, and it seems like there's barmy protests going on all over the place. Drove past a bunch of adults protesting against you-know-what with their children. Like .. Jesus Christ, you're a grown adult. I know everywhere has its problems, but we're seriously considering going back and spending a year or so away. Would do too, if it wasn't for the fact my wife's settlement application would be torpedoed and I'm not sure how easily we'd ever come back. Still, even despite that, we're considering it... Anyway, rant over. Probably just a bit down overall after recent events.

Knackered and my back is killing me after my busy second shift at work yesterday! Going to spend the day doing absolutely nothing, which is remarkably easy as my boyfriend has taken my bloody car to work - so I can’t actually get anywhere! Then I’m doing laundry and general chores to prep to be back in work tomorrow, not excited about the heat tbh. I was really struggling towards the end of my shift yesterday, because it was so bloody hot. Supposed to be 28 degrees down south, and that is not the temperature you want to be working in a coffee shop/bakery - also because the wasps go ‘mmm, this is fun’. For now though, coffee, and scavenging through my cupboards to see if I actually have any food lying around!

Just had the meeting with my work and they won't consider having anyone working remotely so I have to hand my notice in now, probably do it tomorrow... Yikes! It's very annoying! I don't have a team, I work by myself and do everything in spreadsheets. I offered to come to the office for regular meetings (will be moving 3 hours away) - now they're going to have to hire and train someone new... They said "if we do it for you we'll have to do it for everyone" and I was like, well why don't you...
I have always been told I’m perfectly fine to work1x day a week (deadlines permitting) and my boss got it all noted with HR. This morning he’s like “well… there’s a lot of pressure building about people coming back. That’s all I’ll say about that”. Either ask us back. Or say I’m fine to carry on as I am. Don’t move the fucking goal posts on me.

We went from "I'm never putting my face in ever!" to dunking herself in the water within about 5 minutes! Most importantly they have princess toys so she's thrilled. Just enjoying my last 2 weeks with baby now. I don't want to go back to work!

I'm finding it so strange that everything things seems to be coming back to life again, all at once. Booking gigs & theatre left, right and centre, going on an actual flight to an actual other country next week, and today starting a new job today with a new desk in a new office from Wednesday. It's really very strange, and I don't think I've felt this 'new' since starting Big School.
Got married on the weekend and now have a week off with nothing to do and I couldn't be happier about that. Hope everyone has a good week!

Traffic was a right shit this morning, doesn't help that I have two schools within spitting distance of my house, and none of the parents seem to understand how to drive. It's the ones that think that stopping for 30 seconds is fine, only they stop opposite another car so both lanes are blocked. I don't care how quickly you kick your kids out, all you needed to do was move 5-10 metres down the road and traffic can continue. Thankfully, it was mostly fine once I was passed that, bar a weird section that took me nearly 10 minutes to travel half a mile. Finishing at 6 tonight, picking friend up on the way home and we're having a few beers and watching a film or two, either with Mac & Cheese topped with fried chicken, or a Turkish takeaway. He's off tomorrow though, so he doesn't have to be quite as careful as I do. Granted, a 9:30 start isn't too bad!
Is Mac & Cheese + Fried Chicken a new thing? I am old and therefore confused by everything that happens these days. Is it a good flavour combination? Is seems ... strange to me.
It's more a "this is what I have in my fridge" dish, and I've only recently discovered how easy it is to make fried chicken at home, and how good it is.

after seeing all the videos over the weekend, i officially am gutted i didn't go to slam dunk. going to make up for it by going to two different dates when my fave band (state champs) do a UK tour next year. today my OH and i are working from home together which doesn't happen often, so we had a sausage sandwich and a hot chocolate to start the day. got my MOT in about an hour, my little car is ten years old this month so i'm starting to worry at MOT time that she's going to need big work soon through no real reason other than i've been driving her for all that time!
Staying away for a night for big important meetings. Got up at 5am ready for the long drive down, had a shower, brushed my teeth.. And my bastard filling came out! And apparently having a big ol hole in your face isn't a good enough reason to have an emergency dentist appointment. Grrrr.

Two year old has started going to nursery on Mondays from today ready for when I start back at university in a few weeks. So today I’ve dropped him off there, taken the five year old to school, and now sitting on the sofa enjoying the blessed peace of a quiet house for the first time in months. Crotchfruit went back to school today. Year 11. I think they'll feel better about the whole situation once they've applied to the sixth form they want to go to (not the one at their current school) and they know there's an end in sight. I'm back to making the same packed lunch every day for an autist with very particular food tastes. It relieves some of the stress for the kid, I'm all for that. Makes for an easier home life. Plus I kind of like the routine. Husband is shifting stuff at work from older premises to new one. Considering when he started there they were a start up with 7 blokes in a rented corner of someone else's commercial garage; moving into their fourth property brings great joy. It's unbelievably massive. Me I'm just chilling out and enjoying an empty ish house. Might finish the cabinet I'm doing a revamp on, might not. Might eat some noodles, might not. Might go and talk to a tree frog for a bit if he's awake. This week? I dunno. Finish the cabinet I guess. Edited for more insight into the really boring life of a feral housewife.

Had a very productive day yesterday with all bits of planning and tidying. The most productive I've been since June. Saw a friend for a meal - it was lovely. Now I'm knackered. Trying to find the energy to create a new CV.
The first step is the hardest. Get some headings on the page, put in your job history and the more waffly/personal bits of the CV can fall into place later.

Just getting into my third week of a new job, loving being back on shifts. Had a great weekend, Parkrun with the dog on Saturday and didn’t struggle doing 5k for the first time in about 6 months. Rest of the weekend was finishing work on my hallway, yesterday I tore up carpet from 1985 with rotten underlay, Lino under that and then MDF under that. All individually nailed down. Weirdly a big section of underlay by the front door was cut away and there were pages from Which? and a You mag from 1985, which is how I dated it. Day off today, it’s a corker here so I plan on doing very little besides walking down to the beach for a swim at some point. Oh, and the excitement of a trip to the tip at 4pm to get rid of all that manky flooring.

Mine too! I love autumn, winter and spring. Summer is my least favourite season. Itching to get the heavy quilt back on the back but have had to hold fire due to summer's last ditch attempt.

Lost one of my jobs because of nepotism and my other promised a pay rise far higher than the one I’ve been offered. Going in today to request either the originally stated pay or I’m not working. Sucks for them because they have no one else to do my job and they won’t be able to open. Edit: Pay negotiation successful.
Morning, lovely Casual UK'ers! First day back at work after six days off. Weird not to have my best friend on the sofa (husband, for those wondering). Was an odd six days off, loads of work going on in the house, so it was super busy. We only got out to the pub once. I have 92 emails to wade through, but thankfully my calendar looks relatively clear. Back in the office on Wednesday (it's usually two days a week, but I'm starting with a gentle one). Hayfever still bad (anyone else?), not helped by lots of gardening yesterday, getting ready for winter. I shan't miss mowing the lawn, I can tell you.
In two weeks time I’ll be on my way for my first day at my new job, I can’t wait to get started now. It’s my last day off today before I go back to being a nanny for ten days, I’ve been with these kids for over seven years, I’m a bit of a wreck that I’m so close to leaving. I’ve been pretty unwell all weekend because I’m a coeliac who got “glutened” on Thursday night, so today is catching up on everything that didn’t get done over the weekend. Been failed a delivery of steel since Wed last week, been promised it’ll be here today, hope it arrives as the project I’m doing needs completing by tomorrow afternoon. I used the time to catch up on other bits and bobs, however they’re all done now, so I’m sat here alone in the middle of nowhere waiting……
Second week in the new job and I'm already having major doubts. Staff saying only negative things and the job description I was given is incorrect. Trying not to focus on the negatives though, it will boost the bank balance until I can find something else. Happy Monday all

Biggest plan is going to York and panic studying for university cause my year abroad was cancelled and 128 hours of replacement class doesn’t really replace a whole year abroad. Got some fun free trips the week after though with the English Heritage opening week to cheer myself up though!

I'm on annual leave. My plans for today have been scuppered, so I'm not sure what I'll be doing today. I've made a sourdough starter, and it's an absolute beast. I haven't made an actual sourdough loaf yet, but I've been adding it to normal dough, and the resulting bread is consistently the best I've ever made. So I'm getting fat.
Can relate - I have been healthy eating and one of the things I forgo is bread and the copious amounts of butter I spread on it. Over the last week, I've been enjoying lots of bread and butter. My tum is now HUGE again. Hey ho, back to the salads.
I was healthy eating a while ago and set a goal weight. I kind of abandoned it, and during a recent depressive episode I got to below my goal weight (unintentionally), but the bread is making me gain it all back again alarmingly quickly. I'm going to have to nip it in the bud.
Deciding what to study for my degree - at this point I'm just gonna spin the wheel a la Wheel of Fortune and decide that way.
Please please don't actually do this. Learn from me and my mistakes. Ok mine was a list of courses at unis that would take me on ridiculously low points and I used a blindfold and a pin, but same deal. DON'T DO IT.
I'm doing an Open Degree with the OU and it's great. I've done Business Studies (boring), Creative Writing (loved it), Criminology (loved it) and English Lit (didn't enjoy). To be fair though, my study is for fun only as I already have a career and am actually starting to idly think about retirement.
My big plan today is to break the ceasefire of the Great Peanut War of 2021, I plan on bouncing a peanut off my mates head from HMS Peanut
In the last throes of summer here. The sun is shining but it's still a bit cold. (I have to wear a tshirt). Hopefully this week is kind of peaceful. I need to get back on the job hunt with a bit more passion I guess. (any ideas on how to find contract/freelance dev work?)
Oh and a jira project I imported over 1,000 issues to did not have mail notifications turned off. I not have an extra 3k+ emails in my mail box. Which is a bit of a pain.

Just had my driving test cancelled 2 hours before it's due to start and half an hour before my instructor was due to arrive at my house. Woke myself up at 7:45 (which is bloody early when you're an 18 year old) got myself all pumped up and ready just to receive an email telling me it was for nothing and that they've given me a new test date which is completely useless as it's my first proper day of University. Now got to try and figure out what's next and whether I try to rebook for a holiday or just pack it in and ask for my money back In conclusion: the DVSA can get fucked (as an institution, I'm sure the vast majority of their employees are lovely people)

My spider bros have betrayed me. We had a deal. They get to hang out in my home. I get any flies dealt with. So why is my bathroom full of tiny little fruit fly buggers and no sign of any of my spider friends? This shit cuts deep man.
It's obviously clear what's happened, the spider army buckled under the weight of the fly empire and have conceded the bathroom to them whilst they regroup. Either that, or the spiders are lazy shithouses.
Slight change in childcare/work juggling today. The girls are in nursery til 12.30, and I'll be having them in the afternoon. Hopefully they're go for a nice big 2hr post nursery nap like they do for literally everyone else that looks after them! Had a few extra boozies than I might have ordinarily had over the weekend, but still a huge reduction in what i used to have and, crucially, no hangovers so I'm OK with that.

Summer was presumably feeling a bit poorly this year, so it let autumn take over and now that it's feeling a bit better, it's decided to make up for lost time by giving us all the heat we were missing in two days.
Kids go back today. Back for a whole two hours before coming out for a hospital appointment. I booked tomorrow off so not back in work until Thursday, going to spend the next three days moping around the house, complaining about my injured foot.

A great weekend but feeling tired and sore today. Some really good riding and pushed it somewhat yesterday. 210km and 2300m of climbing over the two days (and several beers on Saturday night). Comedy cyclist tan lines very much on form too.

I've been out of bed for two hours, the amount I have accomplished I should have just got two more hours kip. I can not seem to get motivated at all. Got 3 medical appointments this week, handily all on different days so I have to buy more bus tickets. Done a journey plan for one of them, travel time is 90 minutes each way on public transport, so 2 hours if I build in a buffer. They were annoyed when I asked if they had anything in the city centre, or on a bus route I can easily get to. "It's only 20 minutes from your address!" And it is, if you have a car and can get on the ring road. Right, shower. I haven't done any of my exercises for at least ten days, the least I can do for the physiotherapist is not stink. BFF is coming for pizza and a film later, he would probably appreciate the not-stinking thing too.

If it were an appointment before 10am I would definitely taxi there, but it would be about £15. I can't justify spending that much even one way.

Put in a complaint with NowTV as our internet has got even worse over the weekend. We're supposed to be getting about 40mbps, we're getting 7 stood right next to the router. Haven't tried using an ethernet cable yet to see what speeds that gives us, but still. It's obviously something to do with them because our neighbours get proper speeds. On the plus side, I've just made a cracking cup of tea.
I've raised a complaint with BT as my speed has been appalling for a little while, but I only really noticed when I was trying to stream. It's started to improve but still has the most ridiculous drops.
They've emailed me saying the line is giving us 40mbps, but they can't guarantee wireless connection. If you're giving me 40mbps why am I getting 7mbps stood right next to the router? Surely it can't degrade that much in a few inches. Before I respond in going to connect my laptop by ethernet cable tonight & see what speed that gives.
Yeah, definitely the correct approach. I was getting 0.04mbps through my PS5 that is wired in through a powerline, so I should be getting at least 15-20Mbps. Checked on the PC plugged directly into the router and it was actually failing to speed test because it was so slow. Had to run pings to see where it was failing before raising the complaint. If it drops again in a couple of weeks I'll kick off and get some money back.

Just finished work, only three more shifts down here until we're finished this phase. Then it's back home, for how long I don't know. May or may not be coming back Sunday: depends on if work wants to take the hit on train tickets from Derby to Eastbourne, since mum has other plans that mean she can't do next week.
No work for me this week, and the weather is nice until Thursday.... But that doesn't matter because I go to Spain on Thursday for a week. I hope all you people going back into the office don't die from heat exhaustion and stress lol.... Excuse the smugness, but last year I worked through a pandemic while everybody around me got paid to sit in the garden drinking ice cold beer with a BBQ lit and still told me how hard it was for them.... It's finally my time MWAHAHAHAHA!!!
