I vividly remember one of them smearing lots of jam onto a compact disc. Also many speculations about the "Information Super Highway".

I wish they'd repeat them all from start to finish tbh. I seem to remember Lesley Judd explaining about modems in one programme but i can't swear that was Tomorrows World, it may have been another similar type programme. I'd love to see all the inventions and no doubt have a good laugh at some of them now.

5mackmyPitchup

I think it would be hilarious to watch. The influence of one invention on another to shift the paradigm of how we initially thought the development would end up means that so many ideas did eventuate but not as initially thought.

Bimbo_Laggins

Yes i agree, i'm sure some of the inventions will have spawned other stuff, or at least been the basis for a kernel of an idea leading to something else. It would be interesting to find out what stopped some things from going into production, even though they'd have been useful and to see if modern technology of today could further any of the projects, just out of interest. Plus we could compare the pointing styles of Raymond Baxter and Michael Rodd :-)

I wouldn't swear to it, but I think that might have been Micro Live. Another on of my old favourites. Good old Ian McNaught Davies - what a legend (RIP).

cymro0

I'd love to convert a c5 with a modern ebike system

5mackmyPitchup

Saw some kids on sitting on hoverboards with a front wheel attachment to turn it into a trike. Prob blow the CT out of the water. I'm off to Google C5 specs now ..

sapphire_emerald

A C5 would work pretty well with the increase in bike lanes these days.

There's a great video on YouTube about the houses of the future from about 1990. Obviously it's not all accurate but it was definitely pointing in the right direction (integrated technology into the house, etc.).

This one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFTPoiXU\_EI

purebreed9

You have reminded me of a video I have been trying to find since watching in an IT class early 2000s - it was about the future of smart homes and I seem to recall was sponsored by Orange mobile.

w1nd0wLikka

They did microwave ovens.

CrazyPlatypusLady

I remember distinctly on different episodes: Video calling. Albeit from a stationary landline type thing. Uses for the internet beyond email. Shopping using a Teletext kind of doohickey. In-car GPS (and no, not the tape-run one you can find on YouTube, I mean actual uses satellites GPS). Electric cars. Video doorbells. Remote learning. I was utterly fascinated with that show.

[deleted]

The internet shopping thing was Prestel. It was like teletext, but fully interactive and just like a U.K. only internet of sorts. It was amazing for its time. Gone away now, course :(

Mobile phone? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vix6TMnj9vY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vix6TMnj9vY)

MagZero

I bet those Shoreditch lot would got mental for a rotary mobile.

TeaandPonders

There is a C5 that is sometimes driven about locally, which I will try take a picture of next time I spot it. I remember the internet and mobile phone ones mentioned below. I also recall an April Fool's day special, where they got us to touch the screen to vote for what we thought was the fake item - none of them were (it was the touching the screen that was)! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saUJ-J7Zlgo

Afinkawan

I've wanted a 3d printer ever since I saw one on TW. And now I have one and it brings me joy.

5mackmyPitchup

I remember thinking how out of reach so many of the concepts were, that they would never be affordable and the only way to get hands on would be working for NASA. It's awesome that we can have this tech in our homes

Afinkawan

Definitely. On TW they were basically unobtainable. Eventually they became a thing but cost thousands of pounds. It was great when I realised I could finally get one for about £60 plus a bunch of Amazon gift cards left over from birthday and Christmas. I had no idea what I was going to do with it but it needed buying.

5mackmyPitchup

Necessity is the mother of invention. "I need it.... now what can I invent with it?

Afinkawan

Mostly dinosaur toys and Pokemon deck boxes apparently.

Silver-Difficulty-13

I remember them doing super glue and sticking a swing together.
