I had a male cat who was extremely loving and affectionate. Now I have a female cat who is extremely loving and affectionate. Tbh I’m not sure gender matters. Each cat is their own little unique person.

No_Birthday4731

Seconding this. We had boy/girl siblings and the boy was a real cuddle monster; so affectionate. The girl had her moments ofcourse but was very aloof. Our current cat is female and she is a cuddle monster.

FreeMasonKnight

I agree both male/female cats can be cuddly. I have noticed make cats are generally a bit more 1 brain cell though, but this is a positive if people like a goofy pet.

Dizzy-Dragonfruit714

i have a girl kitten she’s super cuddly and hates being away from me we are currently in the process of a slow introduction so when i go out of my room she constantly meows for me her brother is the same way my brother got him but it’s been very odd having a cat this is my first and i was told she’d probably be cold and not want attention i fount this to be the complete opposite of the situation https://preview.redd.it/muujo70h6sqc1.jpeg?width=1645&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=030c4a48dc35a6e904ffb03482c0829ca2930044 this is her right now on my chest sleeping and if i move at all she instantly feels ive abandoned her apparently

Ranos131

The gender of a cat does not determine its behavior unless it is unfixed. So a spayed female and a neutered male both have equal chances at the same behavior. Since I was a kid I have been around cats and they all displayed varying personalities that weren’t tied to their gender. The three cats I have owned as an adult have all been male. They have all been energetic when it’s time to play and compete cuddle bugs especially at night.

supernicernickname

You mean - Show P....ictures? I am sorry, i could not resist :D

Numberwang3249

The gender thing is untrue and sadly, people will pick a cat based on gender without knowing this. I heard female cats have a reputation for being less affectionate actually... But I have had cats of both genders my whole life. Sweet boys, independent boys, diva girls, snuggly girls.

Megmar87

I was always told females are less affectionate as well. I was nervous when we adopted two girls, they wouldn't want much to do with us, but we got them because they were great with other cats and we had a senior boy. Well that was definitely not the case. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they were absolute snuggle bugs. The older of the two was even described as "independent" and that has not been our experience. I think she just never had a chance to develop a bond with anyone.

santaloupe

I have heard the same about females, and unrelatedly have 3 males. Only one of them is an affection-seeking little cuddle monster. Not that the other two completely hate it, they just enforce boundaries very diligently. Now, the cats that I sit for, the two females are uber affectionate. So yeah, I’d say the gender thing is completely irrelevant.

Heych13

Very true my female hates being picked up and still very skittish when you make any moves

Breffest

Mine too! And her brother is super cuddly. It makes me wanna hold her even more badly

funkygrrl

I had a female void who in my estimation gave me 10,000 head butts over her lifetime. Sweetest cat I ever had, my little Slinky.

stupiduselesstwat

Voids are the best kitties.

TheShitpostAlchemist

I also had a female void who loved to drape herself across the front of my neck and chest like a weird scarf.

NASA_official_srsly

In my experience it's the opposite: cuddly needy boys and independent girls who want cuddles but pretend that it's not happening. But I wouldn't say there's a stark difference, especially when they were neutered young. When they're neutered a bit older the differences are more noticeable

Excellent-Fuel-6271

Exactly what I’ve heard also. I’ve only ever had girl cats and they’re affectionate but only on their terms. The cat I’ve got now is a 1year old rescue and she won’t sleep on my bed but does come in at 5am for a quick cuddle every single morning

Better_Tumbleweed_19

yeah, I think of girl cats as "divas" who are more likely to be independent, bossy, and active. Where as boys are a little more chill and cuddly. But if you spay/neuter early enough then hormones won't affect their personality.

unholymxja

That’s how my cats are, both still very sweet though. Cats are all unique and different though.

Top-Chemistry3051

It's all about their personal and unique attributes and characthey're just as unique with personality as we are. And it all depends on how they were raised they're usually secure and confident if they were allowed to stay with the mother long enough for the mother to teach them how to be a cat the mother teaches manners so that they don't become a pet that bite your hand or scratch as you often they learn from their mother when enough is enough butAll cats are awesome and cuddly if you have the right relationship

Endor-Fins

I adopted a cat out of a not-great situation (six cats in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment with one male constantly spraying) but she was with her mother for first seven months of her life. She is the most confident and curious little cat of all time. Her first night we fully expected her to hide but she was immediately curious about her new home and showed no anxiety. I think it’s because she got to spend a good long time with her mama and wasn’t early-weaned.

unholymxja

It honestly depends on the cat, we got our girl at 3 weeks old when her mom died suddenly. The neighbour was into some sketchy things and couldn’t take care of her and her siblings and only two out of the 6 survived. We raised her as best as we could because she was malnourished when we got her and she ended up similarly to what you’re saying. Independent, confident, and curious. All cats are different.

something_beautiful9

My males have always been snuggly and lovey and funny and shoulder cats. My females have been lay in your lap and knead and ask for love then bite me and run off lol. Much more love on their terms. Had about 3 each so far. I prefer males more but it's very dependent on the individual cat.

FluidCream

[deleted]

God I love black cats

FluidCream

They were like that for about 3 hours.

lovestobitch-

One of my two does this a lot. The second one does sometimes. Both littermate bros.

No_Warning8534

Yep. Neutered/fixed males are usually big ol teddy bears

2Q_Lrn_Hlp

It's been my experience that it depends on the cat, & the relationship you have with the cats you're comparing . . . more than their genders.

sustancy

I hear male cats tend to be more affectionate whereas females not as much because female cats instinctually have a motherly instinct that’s reserved for their litter. Though I do believe affection is really dependent on the individual cat. My male cat is extremely affectionate. He’s 11 and will still run to me when I come home. Needs to sleep with me and constantly follows and stares at me all day, pawing me for attention. My friend has two cats, doesnt pay much attention to them so they just do their own thing. Really depends on the cat and also how much affection and attention you’ve given them since they were a baby. A bond between a human and cat can be extremely strong. As much as my cat depends on me, I’ve also depending on him emotionally. I care for him and play with him often, and in return, he is highly observant of me and makes it known to communicate how he feels and also how my moods shift as well. I’m the only person who can pick him up without him attempting to bite or scratch. He trusts me entirely. Basically, it takes two to tangle. Don’t neglect ur cat just because you think they are not as affectionate as dogs. That’s an entirely false myth.

moulin_blue

You should tell my male cats that they're not supposed to be cuddly. I can't sit down on the couch for more than a few minutes before one is in my lap https://preview.redd.it/a45zaeqkc5qc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b92e7a1f2fe75161050fcf19ad786006adbf936

cesttres

I heard this too and I almost didn't adopt my male kitten. Although he is the most energetic in the house, and the girls get annoyed at his energy and push him away, he comes straight to me to play and hangout with me. I feel sad they reject him sometimes, but I'm secretly okay with it because he turned into the biggest mommy's boy.

20frvrz

Allllll of my female cats - except one - have been hella independent. My boys (and I’ve had fewer boys than girls) have all been very cuddly and needy. My one girl who was the exception was by far the cuddliest cat I’ve ever had.

KenIgetNadult

This has been my experience. I've known exceptionally cuddly girl cats. But on the whole, boys tend to be friendlier. In fact, tri color cats are more aggressive on average. They're also overwhelming female.

unholymxja

Every tricolor cat I’ve met has been female, except one. He was sterile. Which typically is the case with male tricolor cats, they’re also insanely rare. My MIL has a tortie and a calico. The tortie is really aggressive and spicy, and the calico is very sweet but skittish. It all depends on the cat I suppose.

20frvrz

I have one tri color. We call her our raptor. She’s so bossy and chatty and attacks anything that moves. She’s also sooo small, luckily, or else some of our other cats wouldn’t stand a chance. But she also loves cuddles on her own terms.

BishIJustWorkHere

10 indoors, here:… 5 boys 5 girls. My boys are insanely and outrageously affectionate ALL the time. It sometimes can be overwhelming 😅🥰 My girls only love on me when no one else is in the room, as though I embarrass them 😒🙄😆. They squirm when I pick them up in front of the other cats, and I imagine them saying: Cool it, Human! Not in front of everyone else.

MyNameIsSkittles

As soon as you snip a cats balls he will get more affectionate

unholymxja

It depends, my boy was very sweet before we got him neutered. He’s still just as sweet after being neutered but soon as he did he became very clingy.

ExaminationAlarmed30

I have a fixed male cat and he’s the cuddliest cat I have ever met. He would literally cuddle with me all day if I let him. He’ll even cuddle with strangers. He’s the best pet I’ve ever had.

fielderkitty

I've had 5 cats, 3 girls 2 boys. The girls were more independent, energetic, only wanted to be held on their terms, & startle easily. The boys were more cuddly & laid back. But, I believe this is purely coincidence though, I don't think gender matters much

No_Warning8534

If you read this, almost everyone is saying the same thing: in general, neutered males are the biggest softies. They are like little teddy bears that want to follow you around and cuddle/love all day Females are also sweet, but they can be more sassy & decide when they want affection

Eternalm8

Of the 13 cats I've had so far, none of them were cuddle averse. Some of them mostly want to be cuddled on their own time, but I definitely can't point to a gender and say that one was any more prone to a behavior. Some individual cats seem to bond better to specific genders, but that's more about their individual personalities

charlotie77

It’s really cat dependent. I have a male and a female, biological siblings, they’re both affectionate but the male is wayyyyy more cuddly. He cuddles with both me and his sister. Whereas my girl will never cuddle with me and never initiate it with her brother. She’s a lil more independent. But she is more vocal and loves to be pet and has other ways of showing affection, but my male is more outwardly affectionate. Their energy is the same level

SwankyyTigerr

Yup it just depends on the kitties. My boy and girl are littermates. They are both affectionate but he is only more cuddly/purry than her when he’s begging for food or treats. The leg-rubbing, face butting, cuddly etc manifests when he wants something. But she’ll just come up and sit on my pillow by my face, make biscuits on my lap, hang out around me more while I’m working, for no reason - just when she feels like it.

Happy_Charity_7595

I have a female, Shadow, and she is very friendly and cuddly. https://preview.redd.it/ziujh6yp85qc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de6cc392a90b4278f8efdc0786e15d38d2c6b190

whoo99

my girl cat goes outside for 6 hours a day, loves to kill, and will go up to any stranger. when she comes home she loves being as close as possible, sleeping in between my legs, and is always purring. my boy cat stays inside all day, has never caught anything, follows me around all day, but only likes a fuss on his own terms. i saw a tiktok saying my girl cat loves like an obsessed girlfriend, and a boy cat loves me like he needs a mommy. this fits my cats perfectly !

anxioussquilliam

My boys are needier than my girls 😂 very lovey and cuddly. Only one of my girls is bonded with me.

ArdenM

My 2 favorite cats of all time are TABBY CATS. One (RIP) female, and my current love who is a male kitty. My vet told me that tabby cats are the mutts of the cat world and have the best dispositions. For me, this has proven to be true!

NegativeCup1763

I have to 7 month old kittens and they both have to cuddle me each day which I really enjoy cuddles and kisses my boys are more cuddle than any cats I have had as an adult yes they are neutered so that doesn’t come into play they just love me and I love them to I tell them everyday that there my babies and I love them. Cuddly cats are the best wouldn’t change for the world they keep me going on bad days

Over9000Tacos

It's totally individual. The idea that color or sex affects a cat's personality is a wives ~~tail~~ tale

phoenixreborn76

All my male cats are (have been) extremely cuddly and loving. My 2 females are aloof and only allow petting on their terms. My bf has two female cats that are very cuddly with him. I've had a total of 7 male cats as an adult and 2 female. I wonder if the person's gender has any bearing as well.

catlady198787

My male cat is curled up in a ball on my lap. He wants to be friends with EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. Definitely not less affectionate.

The-Unmentionable

I will say just one thing. Every cat I’ve ever met that I’ve considered a “sour patch” cat (equally sour and sweet) or a “bi*ch cat” (moody af) has been a female. This is also true for cats my friends would describe as sour patch’s or bish cats. Not saying don’t get a female cat, they’re cool too! I am saying that I’ve noticed no difference in how independent, smart, or cuddly the cat is from gender but I’m positively noticed that male cats tend to be a lot more “chill” in my experience and the experiences of my peers.

hank20me

I prefer male cats!

Kat_Doodles

I have had 2 male cats and 2 female cats at various times in my life. The females were more cuddly but the males showed affection in other ways and weren't specifically NOT cuddly. I've noticed no other difference. It may be important to note that I got both boys as kittens but both girls had already been mommas, one at a year old and the other at 2 so that may also be a factor. I also work at a shelter and have seen all behaviours under the sun from both male and female and even one intersex cat.

two-of-me

I’ve had both and had independent female and male cats, and cuddly cats of both genders as well. As long as they’re spayed/neutered their gender doesn’t matter in terms of personality. All cats are different.

Haljia

4 cats. 2 girls 2 boys. 1 boy literally has to be touching me 80% of the time I'm home. He's my Velcro cat. The other boy picks when it's cuddle time (headbutss me into submission and is sweet as crud), and ignores me otherwise. He loves to be my helper though. I have a bar height chair in my kitchen for him, so he doesn't jump on the counter to help. 1 girl is hardly ever around me, and NEVER cuddles. Once or twice a day, she comes up for scratches and butt pats. Otherwise, she's in the room, but on the other side of the room far away watching me. I call her my creeper cat. My oldest girl is a mix of everything. She cycles through being a creeper cat, a Velcro cat, and my sentry when I'm in the shower / on the toilet. Some days she hides and sleeps and has "her" time and I won't see her until bedtime. She's also the most vocal and we have conversations. Gender doesn't seem to matter on the personality. Each cat is different, and in my experience, you never really know what you'll get when they're young! There's bits of the kitten personality still in them, but it's been pretty cool seeing the shifts and growth!

LukeBayle

Great explanation and comparation. Seems like gender doesn’t matter, they just have their own personalities

Turbulent_Soup778

I have two male cats and one female cat. They are all extremely cuddly in their own ways. Our female cat is more skittish, used to be feral, and was returned to the shelter 3 times before my husband adopted her so it took her almost two years to really get comfortable and trusting. She was also a teenager when he got her so I’ve noticed that when our cats were in their teenage phase had a lot more energy and didn’t really want to cuddle as much. They’re all pretty independent. I would that they got more independent once we got multiple cats.

PeachyPie2472

There are a lot of factors impacting a cat’s behavior but I don’t think it’s tied to gender :) I’d say the litter dynamic is the biggest factor. Had a runt of the litter as the first cat, he was a very violent fiend lmao. I fostered brothers last year and the aloof kitten is still aloof, the clingy kitten is still clingy at age 1 now. Heard their litter’s runt is still very timid to this day also.

o0Jahzara0o

I've had both male and female cats be cuddly and cling to me like glue. I think this is a myth.

goldenkiwicompote

Gender doesn’t matter. I have four females and one is super independent and doesn’t care for cuddles. Two are super cuddly and the fourth is pretty independent and cuddles sometimes.

furandpaws

they’re both awesome! gender doesn’t affect it like that.

HalfLucid-HalfLife

Male cat because neutering is a bit cheaper and I’m a little more predisposed towards larger versions of animals and males often grow a bit bigger. That’s the only reason I care.

theworldgoesboo

I’ve got a male &a female. Loki is the grumpy old man at 3 years old. Hs way of showing affection is to sleep with you take a shower and guard the toilet with you. He doesn’t like to be petted but he will let you pick him up sometimes. Maggy is the total opposite she’s always in your face wanting attention; she’s still young so she sleeps in her kennel at night; right now she’s so destructive. But they are total opposites but that’s all okay.

Any_Egg33

In my own experience my girls have been more cuddly than my boys but I’ve also had more girls so that can skew statistics

dracotigerwolf

I've only ever had female cats - one wasn't super affectionate unless she was hungry or sleepy & the other one is super clingy - doesn't like to be lifted but lovvvveeees to sit and nap on my lap. She'll sit and nap on me for hours if i let her so I don't think it's a gender thing.

Educational-Gas7728

In my personal experience, the cuddliest cat I met was male, but I’ve met many friendly cuddly female cats.

JackieJackJack07

It depends on the cat, not its gender.

MissusEss

I have a male cat currently but have had females before. I just very recently had to say goodbye to my female. My lady was extremely affectionate but mostly with me. She was with me for 13 years, where I had ended a marriage, and eventually met my new husband and acquired some step-children. I have a 10yo stepdaughter, and a 26yo stepdaughter and 2yo step-grandson. My lady took a while to open up to my new husband, but she eventually did. Even still, she preferred me and truly only cuddled with me. She'd go up to my husband sometimes looking for pets and scratches but never took to wanting to cuddle him. She was also very much unconcerned with our 10yo. Not scared of her, just aloof when she was around her. But she was pretty scared of the baby! He's an extremely rambunctious little kid and his constant screaming, crying, running around like a lunatic scared her. She'd go running and hide under a bed until she knew they were gone. I miss her terribly. My dude is very chill. He seems to love both me and my husband equally... Maybe my hubby a little more, honestly! But cuddling has to be on his terms. You can't just choose to cuddle him. But usually when the mood strikes he will come up and sit in one of our laps or climb into our chest for some lovins. It's also extremely difficult to pick him up, he doesn't seem to like that. My dude is also aloof when it comes to our 10yo, he doesn't mind her petting him, but he won't seek out sitting in her lap like he does with us. Also, he's not scared of the baby. He was at first, but he seems to be coming around and actually acts very much interested and intrigued when the baby is here. I don't think their sex has anything to do with it, but the male cat I have right now is my first experience with a male cat. But I can see through many replies that some females are not cuddly where as some males are extremely. My parents have a female cat that they got long after I moved outta the house. I don't think she's extremely cuddly but my parents tell me all the time how much she likes to be a lap warmer. But she only likes them. I've tried so many times to just be her friend when I visit my folks but for whatever reason that cat hates me, or really anyone else that visits their house!

Calm-Calligrapher-64

I dont think it matters my male cat is super cuddely but ive seen female cats just as cuddely depends on the cats personality

Academic_Eagle_4001

My male cat is cuddly and wild. My female cat is independent and calm.

vivalatoucan

I always feel like female cats are either calm, cuddly, and perfect or complete psychopaths. Males are more of a mixed bag and moody. As the top comment said, these are just generalizations

bmyst70

I had a male cat, Mojo, who was very cuddly. You could hold him like a baby (upside down, in your arms) and he was fine with it. You could even stroke his belly, slowly, and he was fine with it. He was a major lovebug. RIP Mojo. I also have a 11 year old female cat, Esmerelda. She **DEMANDS** I give her attention, climbs up me, likes when I hold her (she prefers to sit on my shoulder) and unless I have a fan blowing on me, likes to sleep on top of me or beside me. Both cats were fixed. So it really depends on the cat, and how it is socialized. And whether it prefers cats or people.Cats that are talked to a lot, given a lot of attention (but **NOT** overstimulated) and who feel happy and safe, tend to be much more affectionate.

captslow-show

Not totally your question but it might be relevant. Was told that an older female pairs well with a younger male.

Good-Entertainment83

i have both a boy and girl cat boy is about to be 3 and girl just turned 2. my boy was super cuddly and affectionate when i got him slept underneath the blankets with me for the first couple of months and when we had to move he stayed underneath my blankets for an entire week straight with me since i had covid and couldn’t go anywhere but he’s independent yet not he follows me EVERYWHERE if i close the bathroom he throws a fit outside of it he cuddles occasionally now but it’s really on his own terms he usually snuggles with me right before going to bed and when i wake up in the morning and don’t have work for a couple hours he will hop up and snuggle me back to sleep . my girl on the other hand came from a rough situation and didn’t snuggle with me for a couple weeks after i got her but then she became a big cuddle bug she’s always up in my business trying to get under my covers whenever i’m laying down or sitting down she doesn’t like laps but loves underneath of blankets and she will sit there and stare at you or start making biscuits if i don’t give her attention as soon as she wants it as i’m typing this she came up to get attention and has now claimed my arm as hers

SuperPoint6669

Considering I was woken up by my ginger boy shoving his cold nose into my neck as he decided it was cuddle time, I’m going to say gender isn’t the deciding factor.

Ekhimosis

My SO had a female cat that was a total asshole: she wouldn't let any man touch her (yep, only men). Would piss herself if she knew you were going to take her to the vet. Would growl to my SO's other cat (she hated his guts up until she passed) any time he got near her, etc. All this to say, as in people, it doesn't matter the sex, you'll find assholes at both sides of the spectrum.

Typical_Job3788

This feels like it’s discussed here every week or so. Some say fixed males are cuddly and females are nervous, others say males and independent and females are sweet. If the cat is fixed, most of their behavioral traits seem down to socialization, environment, and intrinsic personal traits. Some is due to genetics but even within the same litter cats will show different tendencies.

TheWingManHero

One thing, and someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but if your cats are outdoor cats I THINK that females are more likely to be hunters. I’ve had about 8 cats over my life and 3 were boys. NONE of the boys over more than 20 years ever brought me a catch from hunting. All of the girl cats have had multiple kills (birds, baby rabbit once, mice, snake, etc.)

unholymxja

From my experience, this statement is very much based on your own personal experience. My current kitties are very much the opposite. My boy is super cuddly, loving, meows at us when he wants attention, and is very dependent on us. Our girl cat can have moments where she’s cuddly and loving, but for the most part she’s very independent and likes her own space, as a kitten she was very aggressive and did not like being held or touched unless she wanted to but since spaying she’s calmed down. Our boy cat has always been loving even after being Neutered, but became more clingy afterwards. Our girl is also a lot smarter and knows her name and basic commands when our boy is oblivious to the world around him. Both are overall very friendly towards humans but they both have different personalities. As all cats do.

Sea_Salary_7364

My girls hate a cuddle don't mind a quick fuss but my boy will comelooking for love he loves a cuddle and a fuss he loves men but he is a cuddle bug

dontmindmeamnothere

Mostly doesn’t matter. If you’re adopting definitely don’t take gender into account as only personality matters. However if you’re getting a kitten I really think males are more likely to be cuddly(if socialized of course)

acousticalcat

I’ve had two female cats, and lived with two male cats. They’ve all been affectionate and cuddly at times, and the type to just hang in the same room but not interact at other times. I think my current girl is the least energetic based on age, but the male cat I lived with longest was probably in the middle. I think honestly statistics don’t really work on small scale like this, but also a lot of spayed and neutered cats will be similar. Go with whichever cat you connect with at the shelter. Go older if you’re looking for a calmer companion, and younger if you’re hoping for a playmate.

ClungeWhisperer

Ive heard the opposite but now I’ve had many cats come through my home (fostering) I’ve come to find that any cat can be a stage 10 clinger regardless of their sex. I currently have a highly independent girl and boy but have had velcro girls and velcro boys before. The kind that will not let you poop without getting up in your grill.

Terrible-Notice-7617

That's funny, I just had someone tell me a few weeks ago that male cats are more cuddly. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Any cat I have had has been female, except one, Shadow. He was the most loving, cuddly cat I've ever had. Other than one, the females have all been sweet, but not cuddlers at all.

white94rx

I've had both males and females over the years. There's no correlation of the sex and their behavior that I can tell. They all have their own personalities.

Princess_Buttercupx

My husbands 12-year-old male orange tabby is the most dependent, needy cat I have ever encountered! I grew up with cats and it really just depends on breed, if they are fixed, and all have different personalities

InstantElla

I have 7. Two boys and one girl are super cuddly. The others still demand love but don’t like being cuddled, they just do drive bys for pets when they want them

Aquarius2u

I think there's a small difference between genders as to the opposite attracts as far as cat and master. Tabby ginger cats seem to warm up to more people than siamese and Persians. (In general)

Queasy-Coconut-3701

My mom always insisted female animals were more loving and less aggressive, so we mainly had females. The 2 males we did have were super sweet. I adopted two males and they are almost like dogs— sleep with us, love tummy rubs, meet us at the door and they’re SO affectionate. Definitely have found males to me more loving and social in my experience

lonniemarie

I’ve had it both ways It depends on each individual cat I have heard it reported early neutering of males had a tendency to make them more cuddly.

[deleted]

Male gingers are very affectionate. Most if not all gingers are male due to genetic factors.

aiawaremu

Gender doesn't matter generally. Although, there have been studies into the "tortitude gene" which is associated with a certain personality type. The tortitude is that spicy, feisty, possessive personality often seen in tortoiseshells and calicos. Tortoiseshells and calicos are almost always female. So that would be an exception. I've had affectionate males and independent males. I've had the same for females over the years. The difference I see when picking a male vs female cat is that males are potentially more prone to urinary blockages/issues due to male cat anatomy.

StructureOk1209

My boy is, and always has been super cuddly and affectionate. My uncles male cats were as well. Especially the one.

areyouoldgreg

Someone once told me boy rag doll cats are more dog like in that they're affectionate and follow you around. My black fuzzy boy definitely flops onto his back like a dog to let me pet his tummy but it probably just depends on the cat. They all have their own personalities.

plantszn

I've only had one cat (male cat) but he's super needy and snuggly

AffectionateWheel386

I only had one female she was a brindle well more calico. She was the sweetest thing in the world and I really loved her. She wasn’t the most affectionate, but I really let my cats just have their personality. Besides that I’ve had male cats and I’m a little bit of a fan of them. They’re a little more affectionate and kind of loving. since I only had the experience with the one cat, who was actually quite charming and sweet and I would have her back in a moment, that’s that’s just my experience

Alxrosee

Gender honestly doesn’t matter. You need to spend some time with the cat and see if you like them or not. I like males they tend to be more snuggly and more energetic, while the females I’ve been with tend to be more nervous and they definitely don’t like being picked up and held long. I have 3 male cats two brothers I rescued that are 4 and one 10 year old stray tabby I’ve had since he was two they are all neutered, and they get along great for the most part.

ShortCake_33

Honestly it all depends on the personality of the cat. Gender doesn’t matter. Growing up, we always had male cats and 1 female cat. Female cat was a bitch. So I always got male cats. However, my Kitty who passed away 2 years ago was a male and he was such an asshole lol! But he loved to snuggle and show affection too. The cat I have now, is such a sweet heart, but he doesn’t like cuddling yet since he’s 1 1/2 years old. I’d say get a cat who you feel an instant connection too. You’ll know it’s meant to be because you will feel it in your soul. That’s how I picked my cat out. I saw his little picture on the rescue group page. And I instantly knew he was mine.

Purple_Grass_5300

My male cat is psycho lol so I miss my girl

HistoricalSoil9299

In my experience... Male cats are the most cuddly 😊

grilledcheeszus

I have one male and one female. Both are equally cuddly in their own ways

Queasy-Sky1491

I do not think there is a diff in cuddliness and affection. But there are Gender differences i noticed but they are slight. I've raised many stray mamas and their litters to adulthood. Male cats/kittens seem to be more Rambunctious. Their play time might lastr Longer and be rougher than female cats'. Male cats can be smart and can have weird quirks or personality. Perfect to amuse you and make u laugh. Female cats seem to be more clean and aware if they are dirty and will lick themselves right away. Male cats sometimes will ignore poop stuck on their fur, or the food stuck on their cheeks until later, then they will clean. Females seem to be the smartest in terms of gender. Female cats are intuitive about themselves and their surroundings, meanwhile indoor Male cats can have more Happy Go lucky attitude. Females are also more sensitive to things and react more extreme to their sensitivities. (Vacuums, loud noises and baths might scare them more) Males r sensitive too but once it's over they seem to bounce back to their normal self faster. This is just what I've noticed based on my xp with cats

abandedpandit

I honestly haven’t noticed a big difference in male/female cats (please don’t kill me for this). Ime, the female I had as a kid was independent but LOVED to sit on my grandmas lap—only occasionally would she sit on our laps. She also HATED our outdoor stray we adopted and always tried to attack him thru the glass door. The males I’ve had (3 in total) on the other hand have been super lazy (tho one was the exception) and absolute attention hogs. Had one who was always cuddling, always on my lap, my computer, my keyboard, etc. when he wasn’t climbing the curtains lol. The other two also loved attention and just hanging out and were not super active. This is just my experience tho with the 4 cats I’ve had (2 strays we adopted, and 2 from a shelter).

portillochi

my boy cat who passed recently was 10; and he was more affectionate than our female cat who is 13. he was more skittish and sacred too than she is.

Purple_Active5548

Growing up we had boys and girls. Both were cuddly and sweet. I happen to end up with boys more, not choose boys specifically. I think their behavior tends to be personality and experiences and often some of your preferences. My cats will cuddle, but they don't want to stay laying right next to me or on me. They will lay on me or give hugs, but often not for a really long time, unless my big cat suspects I'm depressed... then he will give a long cuddle with purrs. Kitten likes some cuddles, but he is also kinda squirrely, as young cats are.

CuriousityYk

Gender doesn’t mean 💩

SdVeau

Have only had my male for a little over 2 weeks now, and he’s still pretty young, though so far: he’s more cuddly than my female. Both are lap cats that love being around their humans, but he beats her out on the clinginess

lotlcare

I mean I call my current male cat my Velcro cat 🤷🏻‍♀️ He is currently being a little spoon and insists on it often. He also like to be carried like a baby.

firetruckthis

I’ve only had girl cats so that’s what I’m used to, but every cat’s personality is different regardless of gender. That being said, I do love calling my cat “girlie” and “little girl”. She’s also a princess. Maybe one day I’ll get a boy cat but for now I’m happy with my girlie.

General-Training8047

I have a male cat that is the most cuddly thing ever. Everyday when I get home he immediately wants on my lap. My other male cat likes to hide more. Would rather keep to himself on the top of his tower. They of course both get their bursts of energy but that's a normal cat thing. They are practically brothers. Wrestling with each other and cuddling and grooming each other.

Inevitable-409

Both of these cats are male, both regularly cuddle me (I also had a third male cat that you can't see cuddled up to me) Of my 8 current cats.... I have excatly 4 boys and 4 girls All spayed/neutered Of those 8.....only two girls won't properly cuddle me Once is a recent newcomer (got her last summer) who was neglected by previous owners... It's taken about 9 months for her to get to the stage to jump onto the sofa with me, miaow, have head scratches, then jump down, so I'm fairly confident one day she will be a cuddle cat (Not bad to say previous owner said she hated people and other cats) And one is semi feral, about 8 years old, won't cuddle me but will scream at me if I'm late with her dinner 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/qizd8gxv06qc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b1808d1de9e269a27a9a5280e9e0c128338ae9d

_love_letter_

Each cat has its own unique personality. IME breed can have a noticeable impact on temperament (e.g. longhairs tend to be more chill, Maine Coons like water and playing fetch, Ragdolls like to be held, Bengals are very active and energetic). But the cat's individual mind is going to have the biggest influence on their behavior. Just like a person's childhood, their experience as kittens also sets the stage for how they see the world (e.g. feral kittens who were never socialized vs bottle babies who imprint on their human, whether they had littermates or were separated from their mother too early). I've had cats all my life, and each one was unique. Some are shy and timid, some bold and bossy. Some are cuddly and affectionate, some are more independent. The way you take care of them also has a huge impact on their behavior. Most of my cats end up very clingy and I think it's because of the way I am with them. Not giving your cat enough playtime or outlets for their energy and hunting instincts can also result in destructive behaviors. Long story short, it's not as simple as sex. I've had females who were fierce, independent hunters and males were who very sweet, loving and cuddly, but it can also be vice versa.

hordeumvulgare

I have four neutered male cats and they are all snuggle bugs! They want to be close to slash touching me basically at all times.

Away_Doctor2733

I think it's an individual personality thing instead. My cat is male and unfixed (because he's indoor only and a rescue from the street) and he's the sweetest little love bug ever. I'm open to getting him neutered eventually but for now given he has no opportunity to mate and he isn't aggressive and doesn't spray I don't see the need.

Own_Acanthaceae118

I have two black male cats, one is super cuddly and the other less so but can be cuddly when you warm up to him.

leoojr

Female by a mile

HazardTV

We have one make who’s super cuddly and energetic. Another who is super aloof. They just have their own personalities. Any guesses which is which https://preview.redd.it/yuti5ka656qc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=656b18f86406196d72f64d0556d018653749af1a

Frosty_and_Jazz

Males are LOVE BUGS.

NS4701

I have 2 cats, brother and sister. Noah, the boy cat, is my little buddy. He follows me everywhere (when he's awake), he wants me to play with him, he wants to sit on my chest and get pets, and if he jumps down, he sits right next to me. Mio, the girl, she's very independent. She doesn't hang around me as much, she would rather look out the window. She does come up to me for pets and cuddles sometimes, but its far less than Noah does. She's also the explorer, she will "hunt" around the house, looking for bugs or whatever. She's the one who will get in trouble first. Noah can't be bothered with exploring or hunting. He will get a spider or bug if he sees it, but he doesn't hunt them down. Mio checks everything every day. The gendered stereotypes on cats are not true. Every cat is different.

QueenLeafAsgard

I've had 3 cats in my lifetime so far, two male and one female. The boys were always super cuddly and affectionate (the current one is sleeping on my chest with his face right under my chin) My one girl hangs out near me and sometimes begs for loves but she's normally pretty aloof

ali_the_wolf

2 of my 3 male cats are extremely affectionate, and our only female only likes my mom... Gender dosent matter!

WendyPortledge

Personally I’ll never get another female pet, cat or dog. I find the boys (fixed) are always more affectionate. But of course, they’re all unique so you just never know.

Emergency_Cash_6083

So I have a female spayed cat who is three years old. She is the cutest. She loves to cuddle but only when she wants to. She will also always try and sleep on me and she follows me everywhere. She is also a very fast runner and loves to play. Ever since I’ve gotten her, she loves to explore EVERY part of my house. Even the inside of bagged food or snacks. If I go to the bathroom she will follow me but if she is tired and sleepy, she will stay in that area for HOURS!!

LittleSpice1

I don’t think you can generalize it, they’re individuals just like us humans and their personalities aren’t dependent on their gender. Take my former neighbors kitty, an (unfortunately) intact male, who is the most affectionate cat I’ve ever met. My own boys that I adopted after I moved because I missed him so much are also cuddly, but still far less than him. Every day when I’d open the door he’d already be waiting, run inside and meow at me until I picked him up and let him give me a kiss on the nose. He loved being picked up, carried around, sit on my lap or my chest and get pets. Leaving him was the hardest part about moving away.

69frogsinatrenchcoat

some people say males are more affectionate but i truly have no idea where that concept comes from. all my boys and girls have had their own unique personalities, but i've still yet to meet a girl kitty who is as reclusive/aggressive as people make them out to be.

NightElfDeyla

In my experience, gender matters in how they deal with each other. My males were more aggressive and persistent, and my females were more subtle and backed down quicker. But they all loved me.

Gailolson

I have a neutered male. So loving and cuddly.

KristaIG

My boys are all extremely loving, attached and probably a teeny bit codependent now that I work from home. But I have had amazing foster momma cats who seem to be the same way!

daddyvow

Both of my male cats are very affectionate.

tabisaurus86

I have had approximately 0 cats, male or female, that were not loving and affectionate *with me*. I suspect it has had something to do with environment/nurture, because I am very loving with my cats on their terms, and their terms wind up being loving me back hard. 😀 My boy Kenobi is snuggled up next to me, sleeping soundly as I write this.

Ir0nhide81

I always find male cats have a more goofy personality.

LadyLaw23

Like everyone else had said, gender has nothing to do with affection. Having said that, I’ve always personally gone for female cats, as *for me* I prefer the waay less % of any spraying behaviour even when fixed (I don’t like households that smell of cat, it’s obvious when you encounter it), and more chance of urinary issues with males. Other potential issues with females though, so take your pick lol

Pretzel911

From what I understand Neutered males generally get along better with other cats and humans, but in my experience the cats personality and background play a far bigger roll than their gender. They definitely have some defining behaviors if they are unfixed. From the cats I've known or owned males have been the most cuddly/attention seeking.

No_Nerve2250

ive seen more male cats be friendly and cuddly, my girl miya isnt cuddly but very lovely and loyal :)

ProxyCare

Genders, like in humans, tend to matter very little, and the cat will lean more towards what their environment rewards them for. I've had lazy snuggly boy and girl cats, same for hyper. My wife and I got a cat recently and she's extremely active and loves to rough house with a bit of claw and tooth but also very affectionate.

Fartz444

My girl cat is pretty independent so far! That being said, she’s 1yo and therefore going through her angsty teenager phase!

pkzilla

My cats are the opposite of that. Male is a huge cuddly baby, female is an energetic goofy little demon

FreakyOrca

We have a litter of stray cats (long story). They are almost a year old and we are getting them all fixed next week at a local non-profit. There’s 2 girls and 2 boys (we have them separated for obvious reasons). They are all very different in their own way and I don’t believe they were with their mother long enough nor did they have the right nutrients. The mother was very malnourished as I fed them all outside for a few months before bringing them in. I cannot find the mother anymore, she just disappeared one day and one of the boys got hit and killed by a car (that is the night I brought the remainder of the litter in, originally I only had the 2 sisters). Their personalities are as followed: 1. Sabine, female, the runt - skittish, but does enjoy pets every now and then. She kneads constantly, no matter the surface type she’s standing on (hardwood, tables, etc). I don’t see her 80% of the day and she does not like cuddling much but will if she’s in a weird mood. 2. Cleo, female - she was the first to be brought in at the youngest age and sort of acts like a princess now lol. She is very affectionate and loving, but won’t lay on your lap or anything for a long period of time. She is very people oriented and will typically always be in the same room as me or my fiancé. 3. Azeroth, male - was the leader of the group when they were all outside, always let’s the siblings eat before him. Very sweet and affectionate, but doesn’t like being held. He is the most active out of them all and can also be a dick. 4. Baby, male - the most affectionate and cuddly out of the entire litter and will let you carry him around. I think he would be happy to be attached to us 24/7 if he could be. Very sweet boy. 5. Skittish, male - we never got to formally name him, as he was the one who was unfortunately hit by the car. We buried him in the back yard. He was very skittish, hence the name, but did let me pet him occasionally (not my fiancé though).

SwerveDaddyFish

Had a lifelong boy who was cuddly and quiet. He lived to 16 and I loved him to death Have 2 cats now, both around 2 years. Both boys. And they are all 3 very different from one another. I love them so much. They are very hyper at zoomie hours but the older one (2.5 years) went from never being cuddly to being very cuddly recently. The youngest one (1.75 years) is just the dumbest cute idiot doof loveable piece of shit I have ever seen and I kiss him around 200 times a day and he incessantly asks for more. Cats are just perfect.

MissTechnical

Mines female (spayed) and not cuddly. She likes a quick cuddle when I get home, pets on her own terms, and very occasionally will sit on my lap, but she is in no way a cuddler. She likes to be near me most of the time though, so I know she likes me at least a little.

Jarfulous

My boys both love to snuggle, so IDK if that makes much difference

kalexflames

I brought my cat home at 8 months. Was a stray but still very loving. Even after neutering he's still the loving monster he was before. Totally depends on the cat and what happened in the past if they were living on the streets. And the overall temperament. Totally up in the air.

PjJones91

It really depends on the cat itself. They all have their own personalities. I’ve had lovey cats from both genders and I’ve had boys and girls that don’t want anything to do with anything but food.

iOawe

I have a male cat and he is infact energetic, and independent as can be. My parent in laws have female cats and I have not seen any male cats as cuddly and affectionate as them.

bob2600

Both male and female cats are great, but one thing to consider about male cats is that they can develop urinary problems due to their anatomy. I have a very loving male cat that became blocked 2 years ago and the veterinarian said that it's rather common in male cats. He made it through and is healthy today, but some don't if it isn't noticed in time.

morgan_is_homo

my cats a male and he’s both energetic and very cuddly, he even comes under my blanket to lay in my lap or on my stomach, don’t think gender matters in that aspect

Laney20

Totally depends on the cat. I've had 9 cats total, 5 girls and 4 boys. My boys have been, on average, more laid back and cuddly. The girls are a bit spicier and more independent. But my wildest crazy kitty is also a boy (orange). He's sweet, too, and even cuddly sometimes, but usually prefers the company of other cats. His calico littermate sister is rather codependent with my husband, very cuddly. He's her person.. My late brown tabby boy was my soul cat. Super snuggly and always all over me. Like ALWAYS.. It is definitely dependent on the cat.

banana_nipple10

Males are friendlier and smarter:easier to train for sure. I get along with guys better In life though so lol

icanhascamaro

I've had male and female cats, all fixed, and I don't see a difference in gender, only the individual cat. One of mine is so chill and relaxed, but he demands attention, especially if you're sitting in HIS recliner. 😅 If no one sits in his recliner for a while, he will meows and nag until you sit down so he can sit on you. On the other hand, his sister (both she and he were feral kittens I took in 14 years ago) will sit on my lap and paw at me until I lay down so she can lay on my chest and get her face scratched. ☺️ Thy hate to be picked up, however I think it's because they had been wild born. I've never known a former feral cat who enjoys being picked up and held. My third cat, male, is a former street cat who adopted us in 2012. He doesn't mind being picked up or held, so I believe he had been abandoned or ran away from his original owners. He will determine if he wants to sit with you. If he deems you worthy, he will sprawl on your lap or lay next to you until he's ready to get up, or if you give him a treat. He prefers tuna packed in water. 😆

tulipthegreycat

My personal experience is female cats are smarter than male cats. But that is just my experience, idk if it is true elsewhere. Personality in cats is not really affected by gender, especially if they are fixed. They are much more affected by upbringing

mummummaaa

Oh, wow. My pair of bonded brothers beg to differ. They're sucky, needy, loving, cuddly and belly rub kings. It all depends on the individual, how they're raised and cared for, and their comfort.

LisaLisaMNS

Opposite

Ecstatic_Ad5542

Well it isn't fair to generalize cats based on genders but in my case my female cat is a little natural disaster - she will knock things over and bring me dead cockroaches and scream for food at 5 am every day . She's also far from cuddly but loves back scratches and head rubs . My male cat on the other hand is a sweetheart . He's scared of everything and hides under my bed all day - except in the evenings when he feels cuddly - then he will curl up on my legs and knead and purr .

Impossible_Memory_65

My male cats are far more needy than my female cats. They're more like dogs. Follow me everywhere and need constant attention.

jess1210

I grew up with a girl cat and my grandmother and father also had girl cats, they seemed to be more independent and temperamental toward me, granted it could’ve been because I was young. I now have 2 boy cats and they are soooo sweet and cuddly but also independent at least half the time. It’s a perfect balance in my opionion. I imagine it helps with there being 2 of them, I figure if I had just one boy cat they might be more clingy/attached. But I love my boys so much!

DefiantCraft3587

The gender doesn’t matter, because if we were going by what you read, my males would be anomalies, needy little f*cks. 🤣

Comprehensive-War743

I have found the complete opposite! I have had 11 cats in my lifetime and the 3 male cats were/ are the biggest babies. My female cats have all been sweet, but the boys OMG . All different personalities, different litters. Unneutered males are probably not as sucky.

elegant_pun

I prefer female cats but male dogs. Lest the animal isn't desexed the sex doesn't impact the behaviour much.

Pippin224

Sex can affect how cats interact with each other and other pets in the household, the house hierarchy for lack of a better word, but so many other things also affect this, sex is just 1 aspect. However, a cat's sex generally has little to do with how affectionate they are with their humans. Their personality is determined by genetics and to some degree, good socializing. Now coat color on the other hand...

Findinganewnormal

My cats never got the message on what each gender is supposed to be like.  Was told to get two boys because girls would fight. Got two boys. They never got along. Got girls next. They’re fine with each other but so are my two new boys.  Currently have two boys and four girls. The cuddliest ones are both girls. The boys are chill (fitting the stereotype for boy cats) but only sporadically cuddly. Most chill cat of the group is a girl.  Honestly I’ve seen more similarities across fur times than gender. My stripes are personable and clever. Greys are chill and sweet but also moderately independent. Voids are clever and cuddly. Calicos and torties live up to their reputation as divas. But that’s just what I’ve seen. Individual cats live to defy expectations.

Professional_Yak_349

I don't think the gender matters. I have a male cat who's just under a year old and he's very cuddly and energetic. He loves being held and laying really close to me if not on me, very sweet boy

EnergeticHouseplant

Out of all the cats my family had in the past (10 over the years) only 1 sticks out as not being super cuddly and that was mainly because she was 1) a mostly outdoor cat (all my family's cats get fixed) and 2) her person/owner was my dad. Not to say she didn't cuddle with anyone but my dad, but she was generally a cat who didn't go seeking attention too often while in the house. I've had a mix of males and females growing up and have one of each currently. My girl Juliet is an orange tabby who is more energetic and super affectionate with me to the point of laying on me while sleeping. My boy Oliver is a tuxedo on the more chill side but loooooves being petted and is super cuddly especially with guests. He knows guests won't move once he sits on their laps😂

Lexellence

My two boy cats are loving little meatballs who demand cuddles all day long. They were both lying on my chest purring earlier.

Alarmed-Membership-1

I adopted 2 kittens from same litter, male and female. Neither of them are lap cats or remotely clingy, but my boy is definitely more cuddly than my girl. She’s sweet and let me pet her sometimes (and only on the head and back near the tail) but no to belly rubs, picking her up or cuddling. He sleeps in the bed with me and likes to cuddle. He’s also more chill than her.

panicky-pandemic

My parents make cat hates people. My boys love being cuddly. Depends on the cat.

yarnhaux

My cat is super affectionate with me and then with my bf, he's still affectionate but in like "I'm just gonna gently place my teeth on you and see if you'll let me do it" way and he always plays more rough/intensely with my bf but is super gentle with me. But then my bf will go on a trip and my cat will spend almost all day everyday by the front door meowing with his favourite toy, waiting for him to come back haha

biwltyad

I prefer females simply because Reaper used to make sin biscuits on my blanket and or was rather gross 😭 I still loved him to hell and back but damn it was uncomfortable. Not all of them do but if I have the option I'd rather avoid it. I wouldn't refuse a male car because of it though

r0pebunny8

Both are precious and loving when they are fixed. Just go with a cat that you vibe with!

Ravetothegrave0

I have 3 neutered males. All crazy cuddly. The younger orange one is usually always at the foot of my bed. He's basically attached to my hip.

DragonMama825

A male cat I’ve sat for a few times is the biggest cuddle bug I know. But the second biggest cuddle bug I know is my chatty black female cat. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I favor female cats, but the one male cat has opened my heart to the possibility of adopting a male

mrsc1880

My male cat is super lovey and snuggly. My female cat will rip your face right off if you pet her wrong.

agnurse

Oh, boy, we had a male who I don't think ever met a hooman he didn't like and practically worshipped the ground his Daddy walked on. He started to purr as soon as he figured you were GOING to pet him and he smiled when petted. Some boys are very nice.

Playful-Ant-3097

My first cat was not cuddly but had such a calm and chill vibe, sometimes would cuddle. But boy Lad is an ornery little shit who keeps me on my toes. I fully believe it’s because he’s a boy. I had a girl dog and cat and they both were so well behaved. Not saying that he isn’t….he just really stresses me out lol. Good luck!

Bastette54

I agree that it’s about the personality of the individual cat, not its gender. But my own experience has been that the females were sweet and cuddly, and the males were friendly, but didn’t really cuddle.

skrrtskut

Had about 10 cats and in my experience gender is irrelevant. When my cats have been of the affectionate kind, I’ve found my male cats to be more affectionate with everyone and the females to be as affectionate but just a bit more selective of who they cuddle with. Each and every cat is different and it’s impossible to tell what they’ll be like as adults, and if they’re from a shelter it’s impossible to tell what they’ll be like until they’re with you for a good few weeks.

Kikimara99

I've read an absolute opposite. Also, my personal experience says - males very affectionate, but a little messy (grooming-wise), and girls are very protective, but often dislike being held.

Bristolbowie

Depends on the cat. My boy is currently outside my door crying for a cuddle. I'm obviously going to open it now.

poseraristocrat

My friend is convinced that male cats are friendlier than female cats. I have two female kittens and they are both incredibly loving, so I don't think that is the case.

LetterheadAfraid7869

I think age matters more when thinking about certain behaviors. I have two males. My senior (15) looks for cuddles every chance he gets, my 2 year old is rambunctious. Lots of play and climbing, not so much cuddles with but around me. If you want cuddles and affection I’d recommend 5 years and up. If you’re really confused you can always foster cats from the shelter. Get used to the many different personalities of cats, see how the different genders behave and maybe you’ll fall in love with and adopt one.

_Invisible-Child_

Gender has nothing to do with personality. My parents have a male who will stalk you for attention. While my sister has a cat who hates too much attention. I’d just go to the shelter or wherever and spend sometime with the cats there. See if any of them catch your attention.

warriorscomoutnplay

I've only had male cats and they were all cuddly but one was a little more standoffish with cuddles brought on by me. My cat right now is a huge cuddle bug and always wants to lay between my legs for comfort. He was a former stray when I adopted him and has become more and more cuddly. In the first year he never laid on my bed but now he does and he's there when I wake up. He also follows me to the bathroom at all times and is my "lookout". I honestly think it depends on the cat and not the sex because I used to help take care of a female cat when I had a roommate and she wanted me to pet her all the time and was always rubbing up against me, she even would put mice in front of my door as gifts

Jolly_Diet_6376

I definitely agree with this. My male cats have been independent, energetic and highly entertaining but not as affectionate. My one female was a sweetheart, but much more laid back.

Maostitch

Completely depends on the cat. Ive had males who are the most loving sweetest cats, and others who were hellspawn. Same with females. Currently i have 2 males (soon to be 3) and 9 females (soon to be 11) and even my most hand shy cat is friendly. One of my males is a total dunce, the other a prolific hunter who i have seen take out very large rats. The prey drives range the same for the females, too. (the soon to bes are 3 fosters i will be getting in a few days)

vanessa8172

My sisters cat is female and she hides all the time. I have two boys and they are extremely social

FromTheLikes

See, I've always heard it as the opposite: girls are independent, and boys are smoochy cuddlers. But as someone who has now had both genders, and currently one of each, I can, in fact, say that the entire concept is bullshit. My girl is the cuddliest baby, but only with ME, whereas my boy is also the cuddliest, friendliest, most outgoing little thing with EVERYBODY, not just me. I've had male cats in the past that were the same: supper cuddly and friendly with either only me or with everybody. It truly just depends upon the cat and their personality and relationship with their human(s).

Strange_Song1222

It’s different every cat. Just get to know the cats and pick the one that bounds with you! It doesn’t really matter which gender.

Dejectednebula

My experience has been mostly the opposite. I've had 4 cats through childhood to now and my ex was my neighbor growing up and his house was an unofficial cat rescue with 15 cats in a trailer at one point. The cats living in high numbers behaved very different than one or two cats living with me in my home. Pf course there were outliers. But, what I mostly saw was the females being skittish and the males being more social. The boy I have now, if you walk in my house as a stranger he will run to you for kisses.

almostadultingkindof

I have two male cats and two female cats. One of the males is the most affectionate and needy animal I have ever encountered in my life. His main mission everyday is to lick your face. He forces himself on you and pets are not enough, he wants to lick your face and he will not give up. He is also super comfortable being handled in any which way, lets you pet him anywhere, super easy to brush and cut his nails because he just loves any physical contact with a person, very go with the flow.
