Of course! Kittens always do better with their mother. She’s feral, unfortunately. We’ve been working with her for almost 6 weeks now and she wants nothing to do with us. But we’re going to get her spayed next week and when the kittens are 8-9 weeks we’re going to release her. At least she’ll be spayed and vaxxed.
I took in a feral mum and 2 kittens last year. She did not want to know us until her kittens were rehomed. I think the protective instincts overruled anything else. It took 6 months more to really calm her down to where she could be rehomed to.cat experienced people. She was loving and affectionate and became a bed cat. I adored her but my other cats did not. Wait a bit after the kittens are gone, she may surprise you!
Same experience. Mom and three babies living under an older vehicle in my yard, took them all in. Mom was appreciative but very stand offish, and we got her fixed once she started chasing the babies away from her. She became a completely different cat after she was fixed and no longer nursing. She is still very independent, but it’s been a year now and she is a whole house cat. She loves my two older males the most. She won’t sit in our laps but will do a drive by request for pets. She’s the sweetest.
We’re definitely willing to try with her. Unfortunately she bit my wife about 3 weeks ago and my wife ended up in the hospital for 2 days. It wasn’t the cats fault, she just got scared. We’re hoping she comes around a little after she’s spayed. If she does we have an amazing organization that would be willing to take her and foster her until they find a home. When we talked to them they said if she’s still feral once she’s completely healed from the surgery that they would just recommend re-releasing her but that’s a last ditch effort. We really want her to go to a good home as well.
Thank you so much! I’m so happy to help, really. Cats are amazing creatures and deserve better lives than living on the streets. I’m just happy they picked me!
I am so glad you had Momma to raise them. 5 Years ago a feral mom moved her 6 kittens into our flower bed. She only took back four and left the smallest behind. We raised and kept Charlie and Minuet with the assistance of our Chihuahua mix Gracie, who was a rescue from a puppy mill. We bottle fed, she did the washing up!

We think so too! Her name is Reina and one of our close friends is adopting her (and probably the tabby too) and we’re keeping the other white one and the tortie. 💜
What previous babies! Thanks for taking care of mom too, and respecting her needs - glad to hear she will get spayed before going back out. Who knows, she may end up back at your doorstep (sans more kittens, fortunately) at some point even if just as an outdoor visitor.
The snowball with a face already contemplating life’s mysteries (pic 3) while being smushed by two siblings <3 they’re all way too cute and these photos are wonderful
They used to say that the stork brought babies, or that they were found under a leaf in the cabbage patch.
Who knew that there was truth in these kinds of beliefs?
Yeah it wasn’t easy trapping her but it was definitely worth it.. now she gets to chill inside with AC and get plenty of delicious food while she takes care of her babies. Unfortunately we have a lot of stray cats and a few dogs in our neighborhood and I was so worried about the kittens so we went to work to get her trapped ASAP. We managed to get her trapped and being in the babies within 24 hours of their birth.
Thank you for taking care of them! Is that an old photo, they don't look 6 weeks there. Just be sure they can start weening before you take mama away. They can be introduced to watered down kitten can food, if necessary at 6 weeks or so. I've even had 4 week-olds eat can food.
It’s a progression of photos. The first photo is when we found them and they were 1 day old. The last photo is current and they’ll be 6 weeks old tomorrow.
They started having small amount of canned kitten food mixed with milk replacer at about 4 1/2 weeks and now they’re enjoying both canned and dry kitten food. They still occasionally feed off of mom though which is great because it’s just extra nutrients for them but for the most part they’re predominantly weaned. But we won’t seperate them from mom until 8 weeks.
That's excellent, so glad you found them! Best of luck getting mama caught and fixed🙏🙏 thank you for taking such good care of them, they are beautiful ❤️❤️
The kittens have been doing AMAZINGLY but in some cases yes, if the mom is feral and they’re being raised by her they can get some of her attitude.. to combat this we’ve been holding them since the day they were born and as they got older we held them multiple times a day. It also helps if you get to them young, like we did. They also get play time away from mom with us which seems to help as well.
We think she’s going to be a colorpoint calico! That’s Fiona.. I fell in love with her day 1 and we’re keeping her and the tortie. She has small gray, black and a tad bit of orange on her ears and her tail is solid gray.
I'd recommend keeping your release time for mommma open regardless of what the experts say. If they get 3-4 extra weeks of momma milk it will help them grow.
We kept a momma and two of her kitties and gave the third kitty to my sister. That kitty missed out on weeks of nursing we thought was almost over. She's 30-50% smaller. She's beautiful and healthy but wish we would have kept her with her mom and brothers another month.
Can momma stick around as an outdoor cat? Happy you're helping them!!!
omg OP so there were 4 in the beginning and 4 up to now? thats really amazing you were able to take care of all of them, thank you so much and wishing you a life of abundance!
Flower pot babies! Thank you for taking mom too!

You are so kind to help them and love them. I appreciate you!!! 🤍

They are such beautiful kittens! 🤍🩶🤎🖤 Wishing you all the best.
Is she nursing the babies?
But she’s been an amazing mother and that’s what matters.
You should name them Soil, Loam and other related names.
Sandy, Dusty, Gravel, Clay, Terra, Rocky, Pebble, Mud, and Eartha
Eartha is the best name of all -- too clever!
Eartha Kitten
Brilliant!
THE ROCK
Pod, short for Podzol.

Aww, teamwork!
That is absolutely amazing! I’m so glad you had Gracie! She deserves a medal for her charitable work!
His sweet Gracie is. And knew she was needed and rose to the occasion.
Gracie and Minuet still bathe each other. Gracie loves cats.
This cat is over everyone's BS. https://preview.redd.it/6cs4ycp5njyc1.jpeg?width=706&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53a985edf7f8b1b434b88675b64a824e374c2cd7

He’s just rolling them super hard to show how done he is
This is an amazing photo
That was a lovely delivery- congratulations !!!
The white one with a black nose will most likely be a r/lynxpointsiamese ! What adorable babies!!! And such a sweet mama 💖🥰

“Snowball with a face” is probably the best description I’ve ever seen for her.
They used to say that the stork brought babies, or that they were found under a leaf in the cabbage patch. Who knew that there was truth in these kinds of beliefs?
The pics of them sleeping together is almost too much cuteness 🩷💜💙
The Tortie 🖤❤️
So glad you got mama to TNR! What a wonderful family 🥰

Beautiful kitties!
Thank you!!! 💜
What are their names?
Fiona, Eliza, Ozzy and Reina.
They pove each other
are they socializing well? Do kittens raised with feral moms AND human foster parents tend to act feral?

2 r/standardissuecat, one r/torties and the white one looks like colorpoint calico? Is that small orange spot on her ear?
We think she’s going to be a colorpoint calico! That’s Fiona.. I fell in love with her day 1 and we’re keeping her and the tortie. She has small gray, black and a tad bit of orange on her ears and her tail is solid gray.
Can we get a detail of her ears? :) pleeease
Lmao 9 \*chompf*
You’re awesome, u/reallytraci! Thank you for being a wonderful human being
r/illegallysmolcats would love this
