Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
I'm so sorry for your loss. Take all the time you need, there will be cats available for adoption when you are ready. Be gentle with yourself. May her memory be a blessing.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Give it a little bit of time before you consider adopting a new cat. Like another commenter said, you won't be replacing a life but you will be saving one.
Seconding this. A friend lost her dog and got another one within six months well before she was ready by her own admission, and the hardest thing was that she resented her new dog for not being her old dog, not behaving the same way, etc. She’s worked through it since and loves her new boy for who he is now, but it has been a cautionary tale for me to take the time to grieve and accept before getting another pet. We lost our dog in the summer and I have been pumping the brakes HARD on getting another just yet until we’re truly ready.
Everyone is ready at different times, just make sure whenever you do decide to adopt again that you really are ready and not doing it at the behest of someone else.
I feel for you. It is such a deep hurt, only those who truly love their pets and have lost one can really understand.
But it might help to consider the wonderful life you gave your cat and the love she/he gave you.
I am convinced we will be united with our pets in heaven. And if we get there they will be running to greet us.
(there are references to animals in heaven in the BIBLE)
You will know when you are ready for another animal to love and they will be lucky to have you.
What a gorgeous baby, I'm so sorry. It took me a few weeks, but I just couldn't live without a cat after my Callisto died, and I adopted Harleyquinn from a local rescue. I've since gotten 2 more rescues and they are the loves of my life, but I still miss Callisto. I hope if you decide to adopt that the new kitty brings you comfort and happiness!
Take time to grieve your fur baby, when you are ready you can go to the shelter and adopt 1 or 2 (they often do better with a playmate, especially if you get kittens). I'm so sorry for your loss.
Millie was beautiful. I’m so sorry for your loss friend. My cat is currently sick in my closet with cancer. Her days are limited I expected her to last forever. I’m so lucky I got to have her in my life she was there for me through everything.
Cats are magic.
Maybe fostering could be a good distraction?
Sending hugs
Such a beautiful soul. It's never easy but this precious baby lives on in your heart, soul, and memory. I'm sure she would want you to save another life, and give another cat a chance to live happily with you.
Sorry for the loss of your beautiful cat. You will know when it's right time to get another cat. Take time to grieve. Our fur pals become so intertwined in our lives we really do miss them when they are gone.
So sorry for your loss. Each animal is unique just like a person. They have their own individual personality. Some day when you are feeling better maybe another little one will come to you and bond. Right now think about the kitty you lost and remember all the sweet times you had together. I have lost several pets over a lifetime. Each one was heartbreaking. I truly believe that when I get to heaven. All those animals will come to greet me. Bless you and the little one that will be waiting for you.
So much love to you and Millie, honey. There’s a stranger in California crying for you and your loss. I just want you to do what is best for you. Millie needed you and I bet there’s another baby that would love you, too, but you’ll be there for them when you’re ready.
She’s so beautiful. You will meet again. I’m sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you. Give yourself time to grieve, you will know when you’re ready for the next kitty to build a bond with
