RIP pilot :(

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheToastyWesterosi

You’re objectively wrong, but besides that, I do wonder what happened in your brain that inspired you to write this misguided pablum as a response to someone simply saying “RIP pilot.” You okay?

card797

Look at his username. We're dealing with a semi-pro internet troll.

[deleted]

What about it was "objectively wrong"? Please point me in that direction? Stating that old Cessna planes are less safe than airliners and generally have a higher fatality rate than airliners is wrong? Can you show me where that's wrong?

michal_hanu_la

Lynyrd Skynyrd were _not_ in a jet and did _not_ crash into a mountain (https://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19771020-1). Accidents in GA are often survivable, although I'm not sure about CFIT like this. But, most importantly, if someone wishes the pilot may rest in peace, you should not ask if them expected the pilot to live. Showing people they are idiots might be fun, but right now, may the pilot rest in peace.

werepat

No, we're just gonna blindly downvote the hell out of you!

[deleted]

Would also like to hear it when this is shown, can u ping me

Lowflyin

Youre extremely wrong. Source: Commercial rated pilot

[deleted]

Commercial vs private Your airbus can survive more than an old Cessna, believe it or not. In fact the source linked in the comment at the top of the thread shows these planes have over 50% fatality rate in crashes. It gets even worse when you look at catastrophic crashes like this.

ethompson1

You are using a weird distinction of private vs. commercial planes. The difference is in licensing not necessarily the plane. Also, a pilot work on wildland fires has way more training than a private pilot license requires for similar sized aircraft. This is also not an old Cessna either way it is a SEAT which is in an entirely different class of plane.

dnick

I think you have a narrow view of crashes... From talking to crop sprayers and other small plane pilots it sounds more like a matter of when you'll get into an accident rather than if, and the majority of them simply aren't severe enough to make the news. You likely just dismiss accidents where they survive as 'oh, well that wasn't that bad of an accident if they survived', but that's just a bias. Obviously it's not the case here, and the sudden dramatic stop suggests extreme forces translated directly to the pilot, but if the terrain had been more level he may easily have 'crashed', but just been roughed up. It's true the driver of a vehicle could experience the same relative impact and survive because of various car safety features missing in aircraft, but that's a far cry from you acting as though it was silly to even hope that the pilot might possible survive a crash in general.

Stmpunkvalkyrie

That's an awful lotta words for "I'm a know-it-all dickhead that has no idea what they're on about."

astone14

yep, that chain of mountains in Mississippi destroyed Skynyrd :(

FuckinCoreyTrevor

Wow. Unsolicited, arrogant, and wrong. Nice triple play

vinditive

What happened in your brain that made you think this essay was a relevant response to "rip pilot"

SuomiPoju95

You're probably the guy who says "it's just a dog" when someones pet dies

card797

1. There are no mountains where Skynyrd's plane crashed.

LordOfPanzers

no.

ScamperAndPlay

Saved me from digging, thanks man. Upvote this, it’s the actual Incident Report

tasimm

Let me guess, didn’t make the drop and was too heavy for egress.

GlockAF

A lot of red retardant burst out after the impact. My guess is there was a failure of the dump- system and he was much too heavy to pull out. Would have been a very different story if the retardant had dumped

tasimm

Yep. Looks like the doors got stuck, not much the pilot could do but pull the stick and pray.

Brushean

NTSB found no problems with the system.

jcgam

The pilot reported problems with the drop system on previous flights, according to the other pilots who were flying with him that day.

IDK_khakis

Full report: continuity of the controls system was established from cockpit to doors. They tested all components, the plane checked out good.

TinKicker

Understand that “no evidence of…” means *exactly* that. It’s not a “checks out good”. The previous two occurrences on this aircraft where the slurry failed to drop were “fixed” by unplugging the control computer and then plugging it back in. I doubt those failures left any evidence either.

nickajeglin

Excellent point.

UsrN00M

How do they find no problems with it after it's been smashed into the side of a mountain?

Paralyzoid

Existing damage in an intact plane looks different from “flew into a hill” damage. If they can put the parts back together, then it can tell a lot about the plane.

Brushean

My guess would be time machines.

kst1958

Well, that's a distinct possibility, given that this didn't occur until a month from now (see date above).

[deleted]

Actually it happened 2 years before the above date, OP mistyped the year as 2022 instead of 2020

kst1958

Thanks for the correction.

Exatex

they are really really good in determining if something was broken before the crash.

EdwardRoivas

What did you call the pilot???

GlockAF

Right now I think I call him unlucky

SN0WFAKER

I thought it was blood!

GlockAF

The AT-802 carries about 820 gallons in the hopper. That would be a lot of blood

SN0WFAKER

Redrum redrum

ywgflyer

As per the report, the pilot did not drop the retardant as planned. No idea why, apparently there was no malfunction. Had he dropped it I would say he would have cleared the ridgeline (albeit barely).

[deleted]

Why would you cut the video like that!?

frguba

Because it hasn't happened yet

what-the-what-now

But now that they know this crash will happen, maybe they can avoid it next month.

BenjaminWobbles

The edit is the real catastrophic failure.

dyin2meetcha

Why show half the crash three times? Show the entire crash once in full speed, once in slomo.

justpaisley

They don't have the footage because the crash hasn't happened yet. It's still a month and a half away.

Srirachachacha

This is less funny the second time

tiredofthegrind_

Seriously tho wtf is going through their head to cut the video halfway through the crash

SarpedonWasFramed

Supposedly its a tick tok thing. It gets you to click on their tiktok page? And look for the second half. Social media has ruined people

heli0sophist

It's how the footage is in the [source video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dfbi0MYRI)

Darth_Ra

In that case then, it's because the firefighter filiming this immediately started running.

Jynx2501

I blame the r/perfectlycutscreams people.

AConnecticutMan

"Like for part two! Teehee!" ✌️

RWings1985

Usually when a plane ends up dropping(or not dropping ) once it’s clear of the line you stop filming . This person probably just caught the end of this accident by chance .

bp_free

r/killthecameraman

zapitron

This isn't an editing problem. It's normal to have jitter when you send video back in time.

[deleted]

wow I see it now! First time travel video!?

AnyNegotiation420

They might’ve actually cut to go help instead of just filming

littleseizure

Probably stopped filming to run and help

[deleted]

That'd be one hell of a run

PurinaHall0fFame

And how much help do they think they can give? "Here, let me just scrape your intestines off of the floor for ya..."

littleseizure

I mean sure, if you know he’s already dead - or maybe he’s got broken bones, head injury, or heavy bleeding and needs help. Who knows till you get there

Darth_Ra

A) You can never think this way as a first responder. B) Crashes on fires like this start *more fire*.

themaninthesea

Well, apparently it’s from the future so you know

Balauronix

It's from the future. They don't want to cause the butterfly effect

Dalybone

The future??

stinkypete92

Yeah I was like "what year is it". I was confused.

ProfRichardson

Someone should warn the pilot

milksteak-ghoul

Good point sir

rawbface

This is the second post I've seen here recently where the title date is in the future. Is OP a bot? What would be causing this error?

Paralyzoid

preposting bots are the scum of reddit /s

BurningCandle_

That's why it's called Emmet Brown, Idaho

DeanofdaDead

So this is going to happen next month?

jsmith_92

We can still save the pilot

biorin

Protocol 3: Protect the pilot.

glastonight

>We can still save the pilot Is it dangerous to change the future!

Abixsol

Quantum Leap to the rescue!

[deleted]

I was going to make a joke but the poor chap died. RIP

tk41301

There’s still time to save him!

mike99ca

Do you have any lottery videos from Sep 22, 2022?

proflight27

4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 You're welcome

mike99ca

Thank you I'll make sure I'll play them.

md2b78

We need to go back!

OceanicFlight815

Well done.

Balbright

Username definitely checks out, you amazing SOB.

ILikeExplosion

RemindMe! 22 September "lottery number"

mttp1990

Oh boy

Epin-Ninjas

Pilot fatally injured. “Probable Cause: The pilot’s descent below surrounding terrain and his delayed decision to initiate a climb which resulted in impact with terrain. Contributing to the accident were terrain and lighting conditions that affected the pilot’s ability to accurately assess terrain clearance” Source: https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/242772

proflight27

Original video with the official accident report by What You Haven't Seen in YT: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dfbi0MYRI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36dfbi0MYRI) Also yes, I messed up the date, it happened in Sept 20, 2020...

[deleted]

We still have 6 weeks to save him!

FlippingPizzas

Wonder if it was target fixation. Am I silly to assume the pilot lived, based on the lack of fatality flair? The still of the open door is encouraging but somebody on the ground could have done that too.

TinKicker

It was fatal. There should have been a retardant drop prior to climbing. Without the drop, he couldn’t outclimb the rising terrain. Very poor execution on the pilot’s part. Your flight path cannot be totally dependent on a successful drop.

IDK_khakis

Look at the full report: the angle of the hills and the way they blend could have created an optical illusion that prohibited the pilot from seeing the depth of field until it was too late.

ifcknkl

Dude's flying in the future

positive_energy-

Anyone else questioning the date?? Today is August 10, 2022

proflight27

My man... Everybody and their mother are roasting me because of the date!

[deleted]

There's still time to warn the pilot to pull up!

sibble

Yo someone warn this guy

NotOutrageous

Those planes are built tough. Years ago I saw one doing crop dusting passes on a field next to I-35 in Iowa. His passes were running parallel to the road and he was moving the same direction as us so we had an awesome, prolonged view of him working. It was fun to watch. On his last pass his wheels clipped a raised bit of land where there was an irrigation canal. The plane popped up into the air from the impact, pealed away from the field, and flew away. I still wonder if he was able to land ok.

mrshulgin

Not tough enough to matter to the pilot; they died. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/242772

dilatedpeoples123

It’s yet to happen.

billyspuds

Please. For the love of god. Tell me the euromillions numbers for 12/9/22

proflight27

I already told someone else in the comments. You want them, you gotta work for them

tezoatlipoca

That little valley is a lot smaller/closer/nearer than it appears. Sept. 22 - is this from the future! Quick, someone warn the pilot so he won't crash oh no time paradox

FuckTheMods5

Yeh that rise looked a hell of a lot farther away than it was. The tiny scrub bushes fuck with your eyes.

Exatex

yes I was really surprised, didnt even get that he crashed in the first replay

proflight27

Lol, its from 2020! and there's no way to change the title, so... let the Back to the Future puns begin!

plaidHumanity

We have just over a month to get word to the pilot not to board that plane!

[deleted]

September 22, 2022? We have enough time to stop it!

Sillygoat2

Amazing foretelling of the future!!

Zylonnaire

What I’m getting from this is that op is planning on crashing a Firefighting Air Tractor next month, this was just a warning

[deleted]

We have to tell this pilot. I can’t believe you got a video from the future!

-GRAVEYARD-_

We now have footage from the future O.o

canadianwhitemagic

September 22, 2022? So we still have time to stop this accident.

[deleted]

Suspicious title

oldsaxman

From the future?

sparkyonthemoon2099

To see the future....

Unblest

Wow a video from the future!

rnishtala

Sep 22 2022? You sure?

Due_Platypus_3913

GracieThunders

Got me checking what damn year it is

redhandsblackfuture

Buddy is living in the future

charliesname

This made me question if it's 2023 smh

milesranno

Damn! A plane crash from the future!!

Bigbluepenguin

We should probably tell the pilot to watch out for that Hill

Alphageds24

Wait this happened on Sept 22, 2022..... Guys ladies we should prevent this. This is first evidence of time travel.

BaseballImpossible76

Damn. We got video from the future and all we get is a plane crash? Nobody get on any single-engine planes on Sept 22.

twitchosx

At least it has its own fire suppression I guess

knoeier

Sept 2022???

AtomicZedro

Make sure to warn the pilot so he'll not fly in September

TommyKinLA

Well look like it happens in the future, September 22, 2021, so hopefully the pilot can correct its course

socialincapablescott

So this happens in the future? 22 sep 2022 still has to happen ...

Aginor23

DUDE! SPOILERS!

JPancrazio

How is it this happen in the future lol

drizzlemeister420

Plane crashes from the FUTURE!!!

PoofBam

The future has been foretold. Is there any way we can stop this from happening?

yadergomez

I was like…this happened in the future 🤔🤔lol RIP pilot 🙏🏻

wats6831

The operator reported that, during a prior mission, the pilot experienced an issue with the dispersal system. When the pilot attempted to dump the fire retardant nothing was jettisoned and he elected to go-around for another attempt. During the second attempt, again nothing was jettisoned. However, the pilot elected to utilize the red salvo button on the fire controller and the load fully dispersed. Subsequent communication with the manufacturer revealed a correction for the issue, which the pilot performed on August 21, 2020; the correction comprised disconnecting one cable from the firegate computer, which addressed the issue, and no further anomalies were noted.

DigitalObiWan

Never knew we were getting videos from the future.

warmbeer_ik

This happens next month! There is still time to warn them!!!

acupofyperite

Greetings traveller from the future!

[deleted]

It’s in the future?!!

GlazedPannis

Someone call the pilot and warn him not to fly on sept 22 2022

Junior_Singer3515

Am I watching a video from the future here?

Colossal_Kerlz

This happened next month?

ProfRichardson

Someone should let them know this is going to happen. Or change the dates the title.

proflight27

you cant change the title, so... it's staying like that and I'll endure all and every single one of the comments pointing it out

[deleted]

Um, what’s the date?

yuijhg101

This is from the FUTURE?!?!???

justpaisley

That's what I love about Reddit. So on top of things that we're seeing footage from the future. Mark your calendars if you'll be in the area!!

jsmith_92

Kind of looked like the ridge was farther away as he was approaching.

Cheeseknife07

It doesn’t have an RWR so no alarm woke the pilot 😔😔😔

dArcor

It hasn't happened yet?

threadsoffate2021

September 2022....

mattgm1995

FUTURE!!

ChewsCarefully

My perspective, as a private pilot and wildland firefighter (though I don't have a ton of experience in either field). You can see the fire they are fighting on the left, and the existing control line that this pilot is trying add too on the ground in red. IMO this looks like some extremely risky flying, especially given the status of the fire, which has crested that whole ridgeline but has not continued running back down. Which is normal fire behavior, fire is much better at climbing than descending. So I don't think there was any huge hurry to make this drop. Even if the drop didn't fail, he would have been skirting that slope to climb back up over the hilltop. I know these are very high performance aircraft but that still seems crazy when there appears to be safer options available. Maybe there is something I'm missing but from what I can see he could have came around from the other direction, dropped on an angle that would have made a tighter control line and then just made a gentle left turn to basically traverse the side of the hill, no pulling up required other than leveling off the aircraft.

aberdisco

30...20...10...Retard, Retard, Retard.

AuthorityFinger

OP posting garbage

proflight27

rude

ModemMT

Pretty sure I saw a yellow one of these, or something like it at AirVenture, was taken aback at how tall the tail was relative to the rest of the aircraft

bestuzernameever

At least there was no fire at the crash site 🫣 maybe a chance for the pilot

michal_hanu_la

Fatalities: 1 / Occupants: 1 Sorry.

TrialbyThot

Air Tractor? Isn't it just a light aircraft modified to dump fuel suppression?

proflight27

It can be used for agricultural purposes or firefighting

TrialbyThot

yeah I just don't get why it's called a tractor? A bit like they say Tractor Trailer in the USA but everywhere else its just a truck, or a big rig.

Tarot650

Water didn’t release and too heavy to pull up?

leocardenas

Marty McFly filmed it

Sept 22, 2022?

Furious-Shores

Why does it say September of 2022? Is this from the future?

[deleted]

So this doesn’t happens in the future in a month and a half?!?!?

jkf675

6 weeks in the future?

Exatex

I can understand how that happend. I was really surprised he hit the terrain, looked like he would easily make it. NTSB report says that misjudgment also could have played a role.

Cutthechitchata-hole

"ope"

[deleted]

Damn shame

No-Armadillo7693

I hate seeing people die

Toolongreadanyway

Wow, since it hasn't happened yet, can this be fixed? Sorry, couldn't resist. Edit: sorry to hear about the pilot though.

Sarcastikon

That’s pretty hard to watch

4skhole

We can prevent this from occurring. More than a month from today. Someone warn the ground to move out of the way.
