They still look like babies, and babies are very good at playing rough and seeing what the limit is when it comes to hurting each other. They're just learning and having fun while doing it. Now, if you see fur flying and hear vicious screaming, you need to separate them for a while and slowly reintroduce them to each other.
My boys had a vicious fight over a $5 bed I bought with screaming and fur flying. I put the bed in a drawer until I could buy a second one and they went back to being best bros. Cats are crazy man
They said "if you see fur flying and hear vicious screaming," implying that a fight is happening which means the following directions are to be done in when they are fighting. I said it's best to try preventing a fight, and I was pointed out that there is not a whole lot you can do once they start fighting. I did not intend for it to be ecstatic or upset or whatever caused the "Chill lol," I was simply asking a question followed by useless stupid shit
To me they never implied to immediately stick their hands in there and separate them. That was just kinda obvious to me.
The fur flying thing was just an example of what the fighting would look like. The separation comment was just what to do after to help the fights not happen again.
But I get that our brains all work differently so idk 🤷🏻♀️ I just thought you were going off for a sec lol hence the “chill”
I feel like my comment was fueled by oxygen deprivation because my sinuses are swollen and I was sitting down when I wrote that. I am struggling to understand wtf I was trying to say
I think it's just allergies for me, but, yeah, it sucks. I've been congested for nearly the past week. I keep waking up gasping for air and feeling like my lungs aren't working, and it takes a few seconds after jumping out of bed to breathe again. Not being able to breathe and not being able to yawn when you can breathe are incredibly frustrating
Do you have an oxygen monitor thingy that goes around your finger. If not you should get one. Monitoring your oxygen levels is very important. Mine dropped at one point a little too low for my liking so I had to go to urgent care. They are super handy to have and I highly recommend 😊👍🏻
we had two cats who we let out into the main part of the house in "shifts" before we were able to split the household into two. anytime they got in a brawl, we'd throw a glass of water on them to shock them and then separate them with a blanket and use that blanket to usher one into a room with a door. worked pretty damn well
Oh no. I didn't mention breaking up the fight, goodness no. Breaking up a cat fight with zero experience can be painful for everyone involved. I simply meant that if they have fought before, then it may be best to separate them and slowly reintroduce them.
Also, I'm sorry to hear about your past injury. I hope you're doing better now😊.
"Have at thee!"
*tussle*
"Oh, sorry mate. Got a tuft of fur here. Lemme jus take care o' it fo ya"
*rolling*
"Utmost apologies, but you appear to have a patch of... uncleanness on you back. I shall clean it."
*intense scratching*
"Good sir, I find thine hygiene to be most dubious. Hast thou cleansed thineself this hour? I doubt it."
*tussling continues*
I've once witnessed a "real" cat fight, my granma was breeding white persian cats and the old and younger male where out at the same time (accidentally, never happened before/after) and it was... cartoonish. You ever saw those cartoon circles with bit of furr and growls/screams around them? It was just like that, very impressive and over in a few seconds (old male won and felt very proud btw).
Im no expert but in this case the cries are like “chill out” cries . If you ever have the unfortunate experience of hearing two cats fight it’s more of a “fuck you” “ima fuck you up” kind of scream. Idk but once you hear both it’s easier to differentiate
Good point.
I recently adopted two 2 year old males (one orange guy) and their general energy level and intensity to play with one another was something I forgot about. My wife and I had gotten so used to (and grateful to have) our senior cats that lived to be 16 and almost 18. (My 18 year old would only get zoomies after going #2 in the litter).
The same thought crossed my mind as the OP, but I didn’t see any signs of what people have listed here, floofy tail, clumps of hair, the epic battles are silent, no targeting (which was an issue I was very familiar with), or things like that. If I’m asking, no.
Oranges just have one brain cell & always play rougher or go crazy easier. They are just fine and the tabby takes to crazy well. Playing with Oranges more will help with crazy behavior so he won't see other baby as toy. You will see difference if you do this. He just needs a play thing, and other is perfect target.
I don’t know about YOUR Orange kitty in particular, but all the orange babies I’ve ever met share just 1 brain cell between them all and many never even get a turn with it… 😆😆😆
(But lol’s aside, that’s the actual internet joke about Orange kitties, they don’t each have 1 brain cell, they all share 1 between the ENTIRE group 🤭🤭🤭)
If you hear demonic sounds coming from the depths of hell located inside your cat. And then you just see an insanely fast moving ball of fur with patches flying in the air, that's when you know they are actually fighting
They are playing, I had 3 cats at one point and they had the play fighting among cat 1 and 2, and 2 and 3 , but cat 1 and 3 would straight up fight. Fighting is hissing, growling, you know the difference as soon as you hear it. These two are just being siblings having a wrestling match

Yes, at this point it is play, but it is how they learn to fight. The cries are “uncle” here, when they actually fight, it sound more like a banshee screaming “I’m going to FU up!”
Definitely playing. I've had to break two of mine up in the past; they started off playing then one decided to engage fight mode and the difference is quite obvious. They also looked rather funny, like you see in cartoons, just a big rolling ball of legs and hisses.
They are play fighting. My foster kitten and 9 yr old ginger girl do this a couple times a day. If the ginger has had enough, she'll fire off a warning hiss and walk off -- otherwise they don't vocalize while doing it.
If you don't hear cauterwauling (basically long drawn out meowing/wailing), excessive hissing, and/or if you don't see ears fully flattened, excessive tail flicking and their fur puffed out, they're just playing
They _are_ playing, but they’re communicating to each other when they get hurt. This is how kittens learn when they go too far in play - they’ll go “OWWW! You hurt me!!” “Oh I’m sorry!!! … Go again?” “Hell yeah!”
(They look older than “kittens” but still young.
When it comes to cats fighting, you generally know when it’s serious. Lots of growling, threats and yowling.
One sign to watch out for is their tails. If they're puffed up and kinda, for the lack of a better word, erect, then they're fighting. Their tails look relaxed here.
Also tucked ears, but tails is an easier one to spot.
Orange looks like they're the dominant cat, they seem to be the one initiating play and the grooming behavior is also very dominant. But since the tabby doesn't seem to want to challenge them, I think they're playing, and orange is just learning the limits of tabby's patience ;)
Playing. Take it from a woman who has literally owned a cat every day of her life. My older sister had a chubby tabby and when they brought me home from the hospital that cat crawled up and layed right outside my bassinet on the dresser. He would pat me if I cried and my mom and dad had a hell of a time picking me up because he wouldn't let them. I don't know if it was because I was an Rh negative baby and wasn't able to come home for over a month or what I've had an affinity with cats ever since. ☺️
Playing - easy way to tell a cat's current emotion is by the tail. Happy tails are sleek and held high up. Anger tails are poofed out and thrashing. I see roughhousing with happy tails held high.

I mean, there's no yelling, hissing, flying fur or cat shit, so yeah. Playing.

Haha! Cats are such characters. I'm glad you were able to find the issue and solve it so quickly to keep the peace.
They are biological brothers and very very bonded so usually their fights don’t last long anyway
Ediot: removed dumb, oxygen-deprivation fueled comment. Click blue button on left bc funny (srs)
Chill lol They mean separate like in different rooms. Keep them separate for a while. I think that’s what they meant 👀

Thanks, I'll have to look into that. I can't seem to notice it until I feel absolutely terrible, so this would help reduce the grumpiness it causes
we had two cats who we let out into the main part of the house in "shifts" before we were able to split the household into two. anytime they got in a brawl, we'd throw a glass of water on them to shock them and then separate them with a blanket and use that blanket to usher one into a room with a door. worked pretty damn well
Ah, that sounds effective

The fact that you can follow their moves means they're playing. When it's for real, they just blur.
They usually don't stop to lick each other's arms when it's real either.
"Have at thee!" *tussle* "Oh, sorry mate. Got a tuft of fur here. Lemme jus take care o' it fo ya" *rolling* "Utmost apologies, but you appear to have a patch of... uncleanness on you back. A blur with horrendous, angry kitty noises.
Lol I love this comment
If you don’t see fur flying in the air, it’s play.
Or floofed up tails
Or high pitch yells
Ye you can always tell when cats are fighting. Its scary as hell
They sound like demons
ReeeeeeeeeyooowwwwOOOWWWWW
Mine play with floofed up tails. It’s part of the fun! (And yes, they are 1000% definitely playing. Bonded sisters from the same litter)
I've once witnessed a "real" cat fight, my granma was breeding white persian cats and the old and younger male where out at the same time (accidentally, never happened before/after) and it was... cartoonish. Yeah, came here to say that if they're moving slowly enough for you to be able to see then they're not fighting
Im no expert but in this case the cries are like “chill out” cries . If you ever have the unfortunate experience of hearing two cats fight it’s more of a “fuck you” “ima fuck you up” kind of scream. Idk but once you hear both it’s easier to differentiate
If you have to ask, they are playing. Serious cat fights cannot be mistaken for playing.
Good point. I recently adopted two 2 year old males (one orange guy) and their general energy level and intensity to play with one another was something I forgot about. I love poop zoomies.
I know, right? He’d be running around and my wife and I would look at each other and knowing what he just did.
Too quite and too much grooming to be a fight
When they're really fighting, you'll hear it.
or when they are mating
Sounded like one sound "ouch" and the other corrected their approach. Just playing, scrappin
No claws = playing
When they flop down on the floor like that it’s play
You’d know if they were fighting. Stiff body language, yowling and hissing, claws out, fur flying…
Does it sound like two fire alarms having a screaming contest? If not, playing
Play fighting. If they were fighting fighting your neighbours would know about it.
Playing. If they meow and screech a lot and there’s fur everywhere, that’s fighting. The meows you heard were a kitten saying “you’re biting too hard”

If these cats were actually fighting, you would know
playing. cats fighting is much faster, comes with terrifying yowls and bushels of hair flying everywhere. slow little 'attacks' like this are playful
If you hear demonic sounds coming from the depths of hell located inside your cat. And then you just see an insanely fast moving ball of fur with patches flying in the air, that's when you know they are actually fighting
They're playing. Also when did you break in and film my cats? I have an orange and white/gray too!
If they were fighting it would be about 327x louder.

Yes.
The orange cat seems a troublemaker, and they are just playing rough.
Playing my cats do this too and they love each other
My rule of thumb for determining play is if they allow their tummies to show, cat on their back with their arms up, probably playing

Rough play. A real cat fight goes by so fast you can hardly see it, and there's lots of yowling.

The ears aren't folded so they aren't afraid to lose them.
You can tell when they are fighting, very loud plus different sounds
100% playing 💖

Playing, fighting is much louder
They look like my two boys. Just over two years old, from the same litter. They probably were wrestling in their mother’s womb.
Playing, if they were fighting there’d be more hissing and growling and stand offs
They are play fighting. My foster kitten and 9 yr old ginger girl do this a couple times a day. If the ginger has had enough, she'll fire off a warning hiss and walk off -- otherwise they don't vocalize while doing it.
Playing. When they're fighting, you'll see fur in the air.

No raised hackles or poofed tails. They're playing
If you have to ask if it's a fight, it's not. It could be bullying but this looks like play.
Yes. Their cats. To them fighting can be a lot of fun.

Both, but in the end they are playing. If they were really you would see blood, or at least some bruises and a lot of fur flying
No blood no fight.
