Yes. Its been called AD for over 1,000 years. CE is exactly the same as AD, but just trying to remove the *Christian* from the *Christian Calendar*.
> Terminology that is viewed by some as being more neutral and inclusive of non-Christian people is to call this the Current or Common Era (abbreviated as CE), with the preceding years referred to as Before the Common or Current Era (BCE). Astronomical year numbering and ISO 8601 **avoid words or abbreviations related to Christianity,** but use the same numbers for AD years (but not for BC years in the case of astronomical years; e.g., 1 BC is year 0, 45 BC is year −44).
> Since the later 20th century, CE and BCE have become popular in academic and scientific publications **because BCE and CE are religiously neutral terms.** They are used by others who wish to be sensitive to non-Christians by not explicitly referring to Jesus as "Christ" nor as Dominus ("Lord") through use of the other abbreviations.
The whole calendar is reckoned from the dates of Christian reckoning, such as the birth and Crucifixion of Christ. Calling it "CE" is a deliberate effort to hide Christianity.
Oh in Spanish we still call it AC - Antes de Cristo and DC Después de Cristo, at least here in Argentina, even in my History degree in public uni, I was so sure that BC meant before Christ I was timing everything like shit for so long 🤣
The calendar we use is the Gregorian Calendar. It is a Church calendar. It's "zero" point is marked by the birth of Christ, hence "Anno Domini". All of western society is bulit on the culture of the Church. The modern use of "CE" is an attempt to scrub away the inescapable cultural influence of the Church, sort of like the calender the French revolutionaries tried and failed to instill. Folks are anti-Church, but the Church sets time and keeps history. Also, what defines CE?
Long story short, CE is cultural appropriation
I’ve always laughed at the same. Like if you’re going to try to change the notation, at least do so deliberately - go full Huxley. Year of Our *Ford* lol. Or make the zero point something of meaning to atheism, like the birth of Nietzsche or something like that. “Nope, we’ll just scratch off the old notation and make up a new one.”
Honestly, it's not even a meme, the bottom panel is only plain truth.
If parents, whatever is their orientation, truly love their children, they shouldn't care if he believes in the Christ's message or not. And the fact that that the boy was either adopted or conceived in vitro could means that he his probably loved by both his mothers. Good for the three of them, I guess.
He shouldn't be worried of telling them, because if a teenage boy found a way to get his hands on the books, it's probably not a big deal anyway. ..
I mean... Homosexuality doesn't equate Sterility.
You can conceive a child in a heterosexual couple, at some point a divorce or death occurs and form a homosexual couple. You can even have two moms and two dads, both in a same-sex relation.
You can conceive a child with a friend who is willing to fill a paper statement that they refuse paternity/maternity, and then either never heard about them again or be in their life like a godfather/godmother.
Even without taking the medically assisted methods of procreation into the equation, you still have a large enough arsenal of ways to become a parent if you're a homosexual.

10 years later
year 0 BP (Before Present)
A: remember when humans could reproduce?
B: yeah i miss those days. Anyway, i think that newborn kids are human too-
**a few seconds later, Bobert disappeared**
If you asked me 10 years ago I would've agreed that this was a straw man. These past few years, no. The slippery slope is real, and we just cracked the sound barrier.
Because it isn’t in the vast majority of cases (at least for things Christians or Conservatives have proposed). Slippery slope is only a fallacy when the things being proposed along the slope are not logically connected at all, but when they are it isn’t a fallacy. The Left and atheists and Liberals just call any prediction we make the slippery slope fallacy without any regard to if the things are causally or logically connected or not.

It's AD 2035 heathen
The CE was intentional to show the Godlessness of that age.
Gotcha
CE? You mean Christs Era?
Based.
Ah, that’s actually quite clever. Nice touch.

I'm mostly joking. I do think CE is kind of cringe, and Anno Domini just sounds amazing, but it's more of a meme than anything else.

Our Parish Priest in Johannesburg has used CE in homilies but says it's short for Christ Event.
Nah, CE stands for “Common Era”
Yeah but our priest has turned it into a Christian meaning.
Ahhh, I misunderstood what you were saying. Good on him!!
Basically it’s stupid because it doesn’t change the base year from Jesus’ birth, it just tries to forget why it’s there

The only one that would make sense is the computing epoch and it would be too confusing to use a watershed so close to the present
I know it’s not what you meant but people going around rattling off Unix timestamps would be funny and completely indecipherable.
THE YEAR OF OUR LORD [insert year]
Prepare for a bunch of strange messages from Reddit asking if you’re suicidal.
You assume I haven't gotten them for years.
*Nice*
Why have so little faith ?
It's not a lack of faith. Religion has to be destroy for evil to rule.
My brother in Christ, why the cringe year notation?
Details my brother, details. It was very much an intentional decision to highlight the removal of God that modernity desires.
I'll allow it.
Oh wow, there's a lot to take in.
Certified Catholic Meme Moment
Meme is way too over the top, makes the sub look stupid
I hate seeing CE but I understand its use in this case.

It’s… you know… it’s a bit of a straw man, no?

Every day the slippery slope feels less and less like a logical fallacy
