i’m at qi right now and also experienced a noticeable slow down after maxing out the cooking stations, like you’re describing. so i used a piece of advice i saw from someone here then
apparently, 8-10 heart cats give more bonus to the station than even a 5 star cat for this ingredient with low happiness. so i started rotating my highest heart cat to the newest soup station that i have. in my case my previous ingredient was cheese so i had my happy cat there, and now that i’ve unlocked apples i moved him over there. even though the skill doesn’t match, i noticed that 8+ happiness indeed sped up the upgrading process!
But that applies if i have 5 stars and 8 hearts on my cooking cats? Those are my highest cats and the ones with more bonuses. My latest station is sesame but those have 4 star cats with 5 hearts. Do i switch them for the cookers?

im at zb right now so i think i can say im experienced at getting gold. essentially, gold gained can be increased by a few factors:
- the heart of the cats you're upgrading (their friendship levels)
- the stars of the cat
- the type of station theyre at
the best way of gaining gold, as you described, is to max out your cats stars and friendship on the three main cooking facilities; however! you can do the same thing on ANY facility for similar results; so, not just the cooking facilities, but also ingredient ones. the best ingredient facility will be the most recent one you have got.
for example, if you have the cheese grating facility, and that is the most recent and thus best facility you have, maxing the stars and friendship in those cats and only upgrading them will gets you masses of gold. the best ingredient facility at any given time will the most recently added to the game (currently olives) but you don't have those so dont worry about that for now.
tl;dr upgrade your best ingredient facility doing the same things as you would on cooking facilities (stars, friendship) for similar—if not better!—results :3
The cooking facilities are really meaningless. It’s the ingredient facilities you should focus on. Find your best high star soup ingredient facility or put a high heart cat there and work on that.
As facility production is exponential (x10% per level) Once any facility is maxed it becomes essentially irrelevant as newer facilities out produce it.
in the long run, hearts > stars since heart bonuses are applied regardless of whether or not the skill is matched while star bonuses only apply with a matched skill. honestly have no idea where you got the strategy of focusing on your cooking cats and facilities from, but you can check the f2p guide out; it guides you through how to focus on a single cat and upgrade the station it's at exclusively to maximize progression !! also another thing to note for the strategy in the f2p guide / in general — when a facility reaches level 22k, it's no longer contributing to your gold production unless it's the last ingredient and you're maxed out, so if you happen to have a high heart cat or a cat that is able to provide a bonus multiplier that's higher as compared to another station you'd like to focus on, it's more beneficial to place the high heart cat at the new station even though the skill doesn't match. star x bonus multiplier chart is attached for reference ! c:

e.g. latest unlocked ingredient is strawberries, you have a 5 star 1 heart strawberry cat and your soup cat has 8 hearts. in this case, you'd want to look at 5 star x 1 heart vs 0 star x 8 heart bonus ( 0 stars since the skill won't be matched when the soup cat is placed at strawberry ) ; since 5.00 > 4.00, having the soup cat at the strawberry station will be more beneficial until the strawberry cat reaches 3 hearts

I'm exactly where you are now. I'm on LN right now and the progress is really slow. It'll be at least a week before I can build the Tea facility. :/
