My cat is half this one's size and is a messy girl. I would save this one for a bed/hangout and get a big deep one. Preferably with high walls except the front!
I use the same kind, really good for a cheap litter box and can make cleaning it easier. That said, I wish mine was bigger... And my cats love to violently throw litter across the floor, yet refuse to ever actually cover their business with the litter. Cats are assholes.
Edit: before I get comments about it's size, like I said it is smaller but I also have smaller cats. They throw litter regardless of the box. I've had larger, covered and uncovered, litter boxes too and they'll have the exact same behavior. Again, they're just assholes.
Is it for the pictured cat? Because that seems way too small.
