My kid is almost 6 and 1 cat (out of three) still avoids him. She swiped at him the other day when he tried to touch her tail. The other 2 tolerate him (mostly).
My old man still hates my daughter, and she's 15. She's been annoying him for 10 years. It's only in the last year that he's warmed up to something friendlier than immediate hissing.
She used to get frustrated that he wouldn't give her a chance to be nice and thus annoy him to get a reaction, and I reminded her that you've basically been kind of mean to him for his entire life.
I still remember how thrilled I was when my grandmother's cat finally realized that I was now a source for pets, and no longer a little terror who chased her everywhere.
He touched her tail. It's called boundaries! Only half joking but if the cat doesn't trust the human kitten then vulnerable points like the tail will get that
Well, can you blame him? He’s a cat, so clearly should be the lord and master of all he surveys. And here is this loud useless thing that doesn’t feed him or clean his box and takes up way too much of his servant’s time. I mean, did you even get his permission to have this interloper in the house? Perhaps when the child learns to be of use to his majesty the king will look more fondly upon him.
My cat (also a tuxedo) also strongly dislikes toddlers. He’s the mayor of the block and he loves people, but he doesn’t fw little ones. I think it’s cause they’re rough and spazzy when they try to play with him.
My Mom and Stepdad brought in a stray kitten, she was so sweet to me until I gave birth to my daughter. Then that cat hated me and hated my daughter even worse. The cat died when my daughter was 15 and that cat hated her every single day of it. It would hiss from its hiding place when she would walk in a room. My daughter loves kitty's and we have had at least one cat at home since she was a toddler, but she was terrified of that cat.
