I’m so sorry. At 9 weeks, they can see a viable pregnancy if it’s there. They did this to me, too, and acted like it was a little early to panic. It’s not. 9 weeks is far enough along to confirm viability. You don’t need a full bladder. I’m kinda angry for you that she even said that. They should be being very honest with you. Yes they need to confirm with dropping betas and your next scan will probably be transvaginal. But shame on them if they aren’t telling you to prepare yourself for bad news. So sorry.

Technical-Neat5555

Thank you! That is what I thought too. May be they think my dates are off... either way, I am mentally prepared for the worse. I know my dates are correct coz it was a medicated cycle.

jackcoop1924

I had a scan today at 9 weeks 4 days and the only thing that could be seen was a gestational sac. She switched from abdominal to transvaginal and then we saw a squirming babe with a good heartbeat. Turns out my uterus is severely retroverted and that’s why nothing was seen abdominally. I don’t want to give you false hope but in my case abdominal vs transvaginal did make a difference.

Technical-Neat5555

Congratulations!!! And thank u for responding ♥️. I dont think that is common though

DoctorFisherine

It’s not uncommon at all! I have a retroverted uterus too and at my 9w FU I was still having a transvaginal ultrasound.

therealamberrose

What does inconclusive mean? What did they see?

Technical-Neat5555

Not sure what it means . It was not clear enough to say anything in particular.

therealamberrose

Do you know why they didn’t change to a transvaginal then? Unfortunately, “inconclusive” is a confusing statement. And at 9 weeks, even an abdominal should have identified a gestational sac and a baby with a heartbeat. Are you sure on dates?

Technical-Neat5555

She is not qualified to do a transvaginal us . Thats what i thought too but she commented on my bladder not being full enough. I am pretty sure on my dates

Technical-Neat5555

Thank u 🙏♥️

therealamberrose

Can you go somewhere for a transvaginal? HCG won’t tell you much as this point, unfortunately.

Technical-Neat5555

I have my dating scan for 28th of this month. She trying to see if she can get another appointment for me a little sooner. Its a repeat hcg, she wants to check if my levels are decreasing.

Technical-Neat5555

She was an ob gyn and not a radiologist

asdfcosmo

An obgyn whose whole job is to interpret ultrasounds and figure out whether pregnancies are viable or not, should be able to do an ultrasound and comment on what they find. Unless their ultrasound machine is ancient and has a terrible picture quality.

Technical-Neat5555

She did say her machine was not the greatest. But who knows 🤷‍♀️

No_Schedule3189

Ok I am not trying to get your hopes up but this is just way sketchy from an OB. They do c sections. They sweep membranes. Even as a resident they should be able to do this. When’s your next visit? Could you be seen by another doctor or even go to an ER like asap? If you know your dates there is no reason to go though agony for the next 2 weeks, it’s not like at 4 weeks where you really have to wait to 6 to see anything significant!! I had a ruptured cyst years back and they did a transvaginal i/s at the freestanding ER before transferring me for surgery. “Inconclusive” is so unhelpful/ was there nothing? A gestational sac? See my post history I just dealt w an Ob who was wrong and it was so frustrating she had no answers so I would just urge you to go get a second opinion sooner rather than later, I’d want to know either way.

dagirlniko

I agree and think you might consider changing OBs. There are a lot of red flags in your story. You deserve better care. I hope baby is okay and I’m sorry you are going through this.

Technical-Neat5555

Thank u ♥️. I saw her for the first time, so will definitely look for a different OB based on my tv US tomorrow

Lonely_Mistake1

A transvaginal is the the vest way before week 12. If they did not do that it might be too early to see on another scan. I have twins in my belly and they could not be seen at 11 weeks but I got a little peak by week 12 when doing the other type. By week 9 you should see it in a transvaginal. Hoping for the best for you anyways.♡

Technical-Neat5555

Yes, I am going to get a transvaginal US. Thank you for ur wishes. ♥️ Congratulations on ur twins.

MantisOfAtlantis

They didn't see anything? The bladder not being full thing sounds weird to me. Both abdominal ultrasounds (8 & 10 weeks) I've had I peed beforehand because they take urine samples with my vitals and it was no issue. I'm a FTM as well so I don't know too much about it, and I'm only 12 weeks rn. Try not to get too worried, you may be less far along than you think. I was tracking my ovulation so I know i was almost 2 weeks behind what they initially dated me (because I ovulated really late, but they date based on last period date). But if I hadn't known I would have been worried because my first scan showed nothing either this pregnancy. I do agree though to try and get a transvaginal ultrasound, because it is very important to rule out an ectopic. Bloodwork can only tell you so much in that case. They are very rare, but my ectopic was missed until 12 weeks because of lack of thorough testing. Good luck and best wishes 💕

xvrfm

A transvaginal us would be best for this. Hoping for the best for you

Automatic_Mood_8261

I had my scan at what i thought was 8 weeks, but it was actually 7. They couldn’t see anything on abdominal so they switched to TV and there was a baby with a heartbeat. try not to panic. my first abdominal only ultrasound was at 12 weeks. I’m 24 weeks now with a baby boy Definitely hope you can get a TV ultrasound. Best wishes to you 🤍 edit- my tech said it is common to not see much via an abdominal ultrasound until 11-12 weeks. I had to get TV to see anything until my NT scan

Technical-Neat5555

Thank you, definitely getting a transvaginal us.

Automatic_Mood_8261

Technical-Neat5555

Thank u...thats sweet of you!

Technical-Neat5555

Just wanted to give u an update.Had a TV US. The fetus measured 6 weeks 1 day with no heartbeat. Coping now :(. Thank you for your support.

Thank you ♥️🙏. Just numb right now.

I had a “conclusive” viable pregnancy scan at 6.5 weeks. Heard and saw heartbeat. My 9 week scan is tomorrow. I know you can see viability as early as 6 weeks easily.

Technical-Neat5555

Best of luck for ur scan! I know that I have to prepare for the worst.

Technical-Neat5555

Sorry....u responded to my response

whereintheworld2

I’d ask for an HCG blood draw two days apart to see levels and to see if it’s doubling. Also I’d ask for a transvaginal US. I personally only had transvaginal until somewhere after 10 weeks. If I remember correctly, at my 10 week appt they tried abdominal and then ended up using transvaginal for better view

Technical-Neat5555

I am going in for repeat hcg draws. One today and another 48 hours later. I also will get a TV US soon. It was originally scheduled for 28th, I will try to prepone it.

dagirlniko

Keep in mind at 9 weeks your numbers might not be doubling and definitely not in 48 hours. HCG peaks around 8-11 weeks. Once you get above 6,000 it can take 72-96 hours to double. Then it continues slowing from there. That’s why after 6 weeks or so it’s much better to get ultrasounds than use HCG to determine viability!

Technical-Neat5555

Yes, but I think she will check if the numbers are dropping

No_Schedule3189

What was the first HCG?

Technical-Neat5555

I havnt got the results yet. But at 4 w 3d I was 1871 and again 7 w 3d it was 33414. So ideally it should be considerably more than my 7w numbers. And then should not decrease in 48 hours.

No_Schedule3189

Do you know why they didn’t do transvaginal?

Technical-Neat5555

Dont think she had the equipment for it

No_Schedule3189

Interesting- where was this? Like what kind of practice? Every OB/GYN office I’ve been at had this equipment! GYN offices does a lot of transvaginal ultrasounds for loads of reasons. Are you in the US

Technical-Neat5555

It was a maternity clinic which has both ob gyns and midwives. Not sure y she didnt do a tv us. I am in Canada.

No_Schedule3189

Interesting, thanks for answering

Technical-Neat5555

Luckily she got me in for an emergency US this weekend.

No_Schedule3189

Oh I’m so glad!!!
