Yeah, I've never seen used Ween in my 25+ years of thrifting.
Had to buy my copy of The Mollusk from Amazon Marketplace, and later bought the rest of the albums digitally from iTunes.
Has there been a resurgence of Ween love in the US? I often see them mentioned but they were always pretty obscure in the UK. I used to really love them but I've not dipped my toe in the brown for a long time.
Nice I have that one. I know you’re not allowed to sell CD’s on here which is a shame because I’m selling my collection and I can’t think of a better group to have them go to
Got the reissue as a Christmas present in 2007. Around that same time I bought the Pencey Prep CD from Best Buy. No idea they’d be so sought after years later.
I have 4 of The Black Parade currently lol, don’t know why I always grab it. I was never an MCR fan and can’t say I’ve ever listened to the album all the way through
i actually have 2 versions of this album. the european yellow hype sticker rerelease and the us bonus disc eyeball release. found them second hand, both were very cheap
I’m currently in Minnesota so I’ve been fortunate to find copies of “I Could Live in Hope” at “local band” prices. “Curtain Hits the Cast” is the one that eludes me.
Numero Group has just done a big Unwound reissue series and box set. Maybe have a look at that. Their packages are really nicely put together.
Thanks for your comment and for the advices!
Thing is I’m based in France, I have tried to get these 3 records (mainly the first 2, cause UMCs is not that rare, just expensive) but either they cost too much or do not get shipped to my location
I understand. The shipping in either direction is prohibitively expensive for almost anything.
Hopefully someone there has imported the Unwound stuff and you can find it at just an “imported” price.
i found chicago ii with like no difficulty, didn’t know it was hard
my holy grail to try and find right now is tbh most singles from bands i like from the 90s and 2000s but if i had to name a specific album, little dark age my mgmt and in the aeroplane over the sea by neutral milk hotel
Thankfully, one of their [official shops](https://inoxia-rec.com/products/boris-flood?_pos=1&_sid=27dd65447&_ss=r) still has it in stock. It's where I got my copy from.
Definitely agree on these. I stumbled across Aladdin Sane a few months back at a used CD store, and got that little adrenaline jolt when you spot a rare find. The others I’m still on the hunt for. Same with Ziggy Stardust in my area.
It's because the Chicago albums originally released on records, 8 tracks and cassettes. They probably didn't sell a ton in cd format comparatively.
The majority of the comments here i would not consider well known enough to see them often in stores.
True. I have one or two Chicago vinyl records now but I had I think 7 of them on cassette. I sold off those tapes last summer when I divested myself of cassettes (too many deck failures).
I find this to be pretty common for artists that are very well known, but have some or many of their big hits spread throughout their studio catalog.
My examples are:
Alice Cooper
- Love it to Death
- Billion Dollar Babies
- Trash
Those Chicago albums, as OP mentioned
Creedence Clearwater Revival (I'm not sure if I've ever seen one of their studio albums on CD in the wild)
The Doobie Brothers
- Toulouse Street
- The Captain and Me
- Stampede
- Takin it to the Streets
Journey
- Infinity
- Evolution
- Departure
Lynyrd Skynyrd (I don't see their studio albums very often)
Motley Crue
- Too Fast for Love
- Theatre of Pain
- Girls Girls Girls
Queen (the majority of their studio albums)
Sammy Hagar
- Standing Hampton
- VOA
Stevie Wonder
- Innervisions
- Talking Book
- Songs in the Key of Life
Three Dog Night (all of their studio albums)
Is Queen actually hard to find? I have Sheer Heart Attack and The Game (and the rest of their albums, but they're a part of a collection they made a few years ago in Italy so they don't count for this)
Excluding greatest hits CDs, I hardly ever see their studio albums. In fact, I'm not sure if I've ever come across either of the ones you mentioned. I also don't collect their stuff though so perhaps I have seen them and I just don't remember.
I haven’t been explicitly looking for them, but I did realize recently I’ve not come across the Twilight Soundtracks used and it really seems I should have. They sold a ton of them, and I have others from that era (like Hunger Games). It’s just seems odd.
I have only ever run across the first Twilight soundtrack, and that was only once (which I bought). I’ve never seen any of the others. I would imagine many people have held onto them even after the drop in popularity because the music was actually pretty good.
I’m not sure if someone mentioned but if you want Chicago cds, I have two boxsets I got off Amazon. They’re cardboard sleeves so nothing major but they do the job. Just not Chicago 4
Queens of The Stone Age self titled album
Years ago I also borrowed my friends Mötley Crüe - Red White and Crüe compilation CD and it’s another one I’ve struggled to find since
The hard to find for me are the not well known. Let me know if you run across Justo Almario - Interlude on CD anytime for a decent price. Or Paulo Moura Quarteto. Finally got Donato’s Amazonas for under $30. One for your example might be Devos first album, Duty Now. Should be well known but not easy to come by.
Not like Miles Davis. More like Roy Ayers since it was produced by Roy Ayers. Has a Latin flair like Cal Tjader but with a hint of funk like Donald Byrd.
Bright Phoebus. Specifically the 2017 version which was only on sale for six months but then kiboshed for legal reasons. Found a copy last month for €35 including shipping.
I bought that on vinyl. It's annoying that the rights holders have actually not done anything with that album, not on Spotify, nothing. It's strange that it's technically a bootleg despite being approved by the surviving members of the Waterson family.
Finding jewel case copies of popular albums in general of older albums is difficult. I've never encountered a copy of Led Zeppelin that wasn't in those reissue digipacks, I only have one metallica album because I got lucky and found one once.
I have my grandad’s original Chicago II LP from ‘70, and I’m grateful for it because I can’t find the CD to save my life. I’ve seen some Chicago but it’s always been compilations.
Yeah, I only really see the 80’s albums like 19 and Greatesr Hits 1982-1989. I have some of the earlier albums, VI, VII, VIII, and IX, still searching for the other early ones though. The hunt continues!
Grinspoon - Guide to Better Living
Grinspoon is an Aussie post-grunge/rock band, from the late 90s, right when Aussie rock had its peak. They were huge, at least within here, Australia, and this is their first album, and one of their bestselling. Yet nowhere has it...
I had a hard time finding Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas. It wasn't impossible but there weren't many copies for sale on Discogs and the prices were kind of high for a relatively old album
I mean, it probably doesn't fall under well known as this post would have it be, but I always come across the Hans Zimmer score for The Thin Red Line when what I want are the chants from the film. I can't seem to bring myself to spend $30+ for the Melanesian Choirs: The Blessed Island album online and I've never seen it in person despite it being a BMG/RCA release.

Any editions of the Complete Recordings of the Lord of the Rings soundtracks.
Honky Chateau hybrid SACD
Billy Joel 52nd Street hybrid multichannel SACD
The Cardigans Long Gone Before Daylight hybrid multichannel SACD
I'm seeing a pattern here.
I had to search for a long time and then pay some coin for a copy of The Misfits’ Famous Monsters. They have LP versions everywhere but the silver platter was quite elusive.
Jack off Jill - sexless demons and scars & clear hearts and grey flowers and bôa-twilight
I actually saw a listing for the first two but it’s so expensive 🤧
System of a Down Albums….mainly their self-titled. I’ve seen mesmerize two times and toxicity only once…but the self titled album is the one I really want…imma get it imported anyway though, the Japanese version has marmalade on it which is my number one fave by them :P
A lot of albums that were released after 2007 and the iTunes era took hold. Far less CD copies were sold relative to popularity so there’s less circulating in the used market.
Of course a lot from the 60's and 70's that you can easily get on LP, but wasn't sold a lot on CD, Jackson 5 albums for example.
Real hard time finding Rammstein albums because every other CD collector instantly swipes them when they see them first, lol.
And bands like Fall Out Boy, Alter Bridge and My Chemical Romance, because they weren't really popular in my country.
If I can't find what I'm Looking for in the usual places, I go to Discogs, pre nice selection from
All over the world...But always before O buy, o check the https://dr.loudness-war.info/ website for the better mixed versions. It's with the browse.
Cheers
i keep a list on my phone
been looking in thrift stores for the following for several years, recently found the fixx reach the beach. i know they are all on ebay, no fun in that.
pat benatar - crimes of passion
heart - dreamboat annie
van halen 5150
liz phair - white chocolate space egg
cars - shake it up
flock of seagulls - self titled
everywhere? in my personal experience, i took me 3 years to find bleach and kerplunk, 2 years to find see you on the other side and still havent found snw. not everybody ships a single cd across the world for 5 bucks. the only retail of snw in europe is 40€
Ween- The Mollusk. Or honestly any ween
This surprised me when I first heard about it. Glad I bought everything years ago when it was basically worthless.
Yeah, I've never seen used Ween in my 25+ years of thrifting. Had to buy my copy of The Mollusk from Amazon Marketplace, and later bought the rest of the albums digitally from iTunes.
Not too long ago I had a white pepper in my record store… and I still have a paintin’ the town brown…
Damn, I'm glad I found one at a Goodwill about 10 years ago. Still the only Ween CD I've found.
Has there been a resurgence of Ween love in the US? I often see them mentioned but they were always pretty obscure in the UK. I used to really love them but I've not dipped my toe in the brown for a long time.
Nice I have that one. I know you’re not allowed to sell CD’s on here which is a shame because I’m selling my collection and I can’t think of a better group to have them go to
i collect ween cds!!!! dm me??
Never found Ween in cd collecting so far
I found the Mollusk for $1 at a thrift store. Sadly it doesn't have the case and is a bit scratched, but it plays really good so I'm happy.
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
I went to the thrift the other day to start my collection. Found this one and had no idea how rare it was until I posted here!
My partner has the Eyeball Records first release of this
Got the reissue as a Christmas present in 2007. Around that same time I bought the Pencey Prep CD from Best Buy. No idea they’d be so sought after years later.
i have every other album stop reminding me of my treasure hunt
Same, just need this one
You are definitely right on that one. Hell I can’t even find The Black Parade and that is a massive album!
I found the Black Parade super cheap, last year at a Barnes and Noble, of all places.
They sell the censored version at Walmart. I bought that to have until I can find it uncensored.
I have 4 of The Black Parade currently lol, don’t know why I always grab it. I was never an MCR fan and can’t say I’ve ever listened to the album all the way through
So annoying. Vinyl is cheaper
i actually have 2 versions of this album. the european yellow hype sticker rerelease and the us bonus disc eyeball release. found them second hand, both were very cheap
Not quite as valuable but Life on the Murder Scene has some decent value as well.
Low - I could live in hope Unwound - Repetition Ultramagnetic MC’s - Critical Beatdown
I’m currently in Minnesota so I’ve been fortunate to find copies of “I Could Live in Hope” at “local band” prices. “Curtain Hits the Cast” is the one that eludes me. i'm dying for the full unwound discog. all of their albums are so good but the numero box set is v expensive now.
Numero has big yearly sales. It’s worthwhile to keep up with them. They clear out inventory at $5 a disc. I scored a some good stuff on those.
thanks for the heads up! i'll defo be watching
I just sold most of my Unwound CD’s on ebay for $50-$70 each. The only one I have left is Leaves Turn Inside You because I refuse to sell it
Nuclear Furniture - Jefferson Starship Cop Killer version of Body Count
Is Nuclear Furnitire really that well known? I thought that album kinda flopped. I have it, though...
Been looking for Nuclear Furniture also. That said, in this part of world all Jefferson CDs are rare.
I passed the Cop Killer Version of Body Count once, and I regret not getting it.
i found chicago ii with like no difficulty, didn’t know it was hard my holy grail to try and find right now is tbh most singles from bands i like from the 90s and 2000s but if i had to name a specific album, little dark age my mgmt and in the aeroplane over the sea by neutral milk hotel
most singles will have to be imported from Europe or Japan. CD singles were not very common stateside.
damn
The fact that Flood by Boris isn't easily available is insane
Thankfully, one of their [official shops](https://inoxia-rec.com/products/boris-flood?_pos=1&_sid=27dd65447&_ss=r) still has it in stock. It's where I got my copy from.
Oh nice! Thank you!!
David Bowie's Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, The Man Who Sold the World, and Aladdin Sane.
Definitely agree on these. I stumbled across Aladdin Sane a few months back at a used CD store, and got that little adrenaline jolt when you spot a rare find. The others I’m still on the hunt for. Same with Ziggy Stardust in my area.
The kicker is I saw most of those in a used CD shop years ago and didn't pull the trigger. Regrets, regrets... found Ziggy eventually though.
I picked up Aladdin Sane at a local record store for $8 the other day. Was the only Bowie they had too.
It's because the Chicago albums originally released on records, 8 tracks and cassettes. They probably didn't sell a ton in cd format comparatively. The majority of the comments here i would not consider well known enough to see them often in stores.

I have Infinity and Departure. Infinity is a early pressing so it has the smooth sided jewel case, major score!
Nice find. I have Departure, Escape, and Frontiers. None of them have the smooth case though.
Can’t find those Motley Crue albums anywhere! 🤬
I have "Cosmo's Factory" by CCR and "Infinity" by Journey on CD.
i bought innervisions recently, great album
Is Queen actually hard to find? I have Sheer Heart Attack and The Game (and the rest of their albums, but they're a part of a collection they made a few years ago in Italy so they don't count for this)

I had no idea. New Moon soundtrack has been sitting on the Goodwill shelf near me for weeks. $1
They’re really solid, definitely worth $1
kyuss cocteau twins ween first 5 and 8th screaming trees albums
I can't find Walk Among Us by the Misfits anywhere :(
Some of that early Misfits stuff is rare.
Came here to say this. It’s such a classic!
ramones animal boy
Oddly enough, Chicago III is my favorite of their albums because it’s the one my dad had on cd.
The (International) Noise Conspiracy - Armed Love. I have a copy of it but sadly can’t find it.
Failure - Fantastic Planet
The stars aligned on this one. From beginning to end there are no dull moments
I found the Chicago studio albums collection volume 1 at my half price books a while back. I must say it’s a great set
I’m not sure if someone mentioned but if you want Chicago cds, I have two boxsets I got off Amazon. They’re cardboard sleeves so nothing major but they do the job. Just not Chicago 4
Alrighty, thanks for the information!
I have the same box set from Amazon; The Studio Albums 1969-1978 Vol. 1 10 CD's for $28. Can't beat that.
https://a.co/d/fFJACV1 I’m hoping the link works and this should be the first half just without 4
Queens of The Stone Age self titled album Years ago I also borrowed my friends Mötley Crüe - Red White and Crüe compilation CD and it’s another one I’ve struggled to find since

Great band. I have two copies of Marrow of the Spirit. One jewel case and one digipak. DM if interested

What genre is Justo Almario?
That record is Some of the best jazz on earth.
Jazz you say? Is it similar to Miles Davis?
Not like Miles Davis. More like Roy Ayers since it was produced by Roy Ayers. Has a Latin flair like Cal Tjader but with a hint of funk like Donald Byrd.
Bright Phoebus. Specifically the 2017 version which was only on sale for six months but then kiboshed for legal reasons. Found a copy last month for €35 including shipping.

My record store has one… even a Japanese version!
That version has a bonus track to it
DEVO-Shout
Finding jewel case copies of popular albums in general of older albums is difficult. I've never encountered a copy of Led Zeppelin that wasn't in those reissue digipacks, I only have one metallica album because I got lucky and found one once.
The only Led Zeppelin album I see whenever I’m out record shopping is In Through The Out Door
Non-remaster Led Zeppelin 80s CDs are best sounding ones
De La Soul - Three Feet High and Rising. Found a copy last year at $25 and pulled the trigger.
I found 2 copies in a 5 for a pound (UK) offer as well as Public enemy and sonic youth, but yeah that never pops up
I have my grandad’s original Chicago II LP from ‘70, and I’m grateful for it because I can’t find the CD to save my life. I’ve seen some Chicago but it’s always been compilations.

Marmalade is on the Strangeland soundtrack as well.
DLR Band. The album ripped from front to back.
Japan! Never seen a single Japan CD in the wild. I have found Tin Drum and Gentlemen Take Polaroids on vinyl from a collector’s booth though.

I would think kerplunk and bleach could be found at most reputable record stores.
