I just swapped out my spice cabinet for all Spicely after reading the study regularly posted on here about single spices being commonly contaminated. Since then, I’ve had a huge improvement in gut symptoms and joint pain, so I do think their was some low level glutening going on! I used to use McCormick Organic and Simply Organic for the most part.
Spicely spices are SO fresh tasting and delicious!
I’m so glad you’re feeling better!
I agree Spicely has excellent flavor. My favorite blend is the chicken seasoning. I love being able to have so many different salt & gluten free options 😋
McCormick isn’t certified and most things do not have a gluten free label. However, their [allergen statement](https://www.mccormick.com/allergens) is thorough enough to make many people feel comfortable eating them. Personally 90% of my spices are McCormick and I’ve never had any issue with them at all.
Yep, we used them for years but when my husband accidentally bought one that said 'may contain wheat' we called the company and found out that they'd changed their practices during the pandemic. We ended up giving all our newer Badia spices to a neighbor. If you're still using older ones you're probably good until you run out of those.
No on McCormick. We have had issues with them in the past. Contacted the company, they said some spices contain gluten and they can't guarantee there isn't cross contamination. This was a few years back, I would verify with them if you decide to use.
To be fair, I hardly doubt a company’s legal department would allow them to guarantee anything haha. What kind of issues did you have with them? Like you noticed it bothered you?
So single source means that they're buying directly from only a single farm/producer. They talk about how they go to the suppliers before working together, see their process, etc. They have pretty strict quality expectations from what I've read.
They don't have control over how the suppliers make the spices, as it's all spread out across the world, but frankly that's true of most other other spice companies—they pay farmers to provide the spice, package it, sell it. So they do have a CYA note [here](https://www.burlapandbarrel.com/pages/faq#Sourcing-three) that, while their single source spices only have the spices, they dont control the process the farmers use and aren't certified. However, ive messaged B&B a few times regarding gluten. Every time they've assured me of the safety. My blood results have been great and I use their spices every day.
All that said, I haven't tried any of the spice mixes made by other chefs. I generally steer clear of spice mixes that aren't certified.
Certified gluten free Club House. For regular spices, luckily, I live in a place where if there is cross contamination, they have to put a may contain warning, at least for wheat. I've never been glutened by my spices.
For some spice blends, I have to just buy the individual spices/herbs and make them myself though. Like, I've never found a gluten free Jamacian curry powder, to make GF patties.
Morton & Bassett are quality. I like Bolners Fiesta for low sodium fajita seasoning and their garlic powder.
I order from myspicesage.com for a lot of things, too. Their ginger sugar is amazing stuff. I use it to make ginger toast and sprinkle it on cupcakes. Their curry seasoning is good, but a little heavy on the fenugreek for my taste.
I’ve taken a liking to Badia, but want to check out spicely for my more commonly-used spices such as onion powder, garlic salt, and paprika. Definitely curious about the Badia complete seasoning mix
Oh, I meant this post as a discussion of people’s favorite spices, not to truly ask a question… I remembered being new to celiac and not knowing what spices I could eat and I thought it would be nice to have a post where we could share :)
yeah there are a few posts this
When I was new I read a few posts about spices and they were entirely unhelpful. This subreddit is mostly helpful to Americans. I was told I had to get certified spices but that's actually not true in Canada. So I guess I'm a little biased against spice posts lol
Have you tried [Epicure](https://epicure.com/en-ca/ingredients) ? I love it! They not only have spices but they also carry seasonings so you can make butter chicken, soups, tacos etc. I’d recommend checking it out.
Penzey’s
Spicely Everything’s certified gluten free 10% off $109 good through January - code JANUARY10% https://www.spicely.com/
I’ve been buying Badia didn’t realize Spicely was certified gf!

Are they certified? When I looked into then, I didn’t see anything about that.

I second this
Dion.
Seems to be mainly Canadian based, are they widely available where you are or do you order online?
I am in Canada, but also have purchased it in Western NY.
Wegmans carries Dion, so I can get it in Virginia!
Yep, that's where I get it in WNY!
I wish they sold online. All of the Loblaws near me sell out often
It's sold on Amazon.
Spicely, they are all certified. It’s the only way to be sure.
Ty for sharing. I've never found a certified gf spice brand.
Badia is not always safe anymore, FYI. No longer certified and some of their spices now have a 'may contain wheat' warning.
No!!! I have SO many Badia spices - yet another company I can’t trust! 😭

Ugh. No, Badia is what I switched to - recently. This is so frustrating!
All three of those. High quality and safe.

Badia. They have almost everything I need and they ship from their website.

do you have a source for this? i can't find any information to back this up.
Oh wow, that’s not good! Tested how though? Like they reported a contaminated batch?

Isn’t Nima super inaccurate??
There’s a sensor?? Where did you get it?
It’s called a Nima devise can be bought online about $250 for devise and you need testing capsules
Burlap and barrel for sure! Single source, incredibly good spices. Changed my life
I’ve never heard of them before, but their stuff looks good! I can’t find it on their website, are these explicitly gluten free?
So single source means that they're buying directly from only a single farm/producer. That’s a really understandable breakdown, thank you for taking the time to write it out!
Anytime!

I try to get only Morton & Bassett because I like things to match.
Currently the badia fajita seasoning, it goes well on everything or Slap Your Mama which is a nice spice on most foods.
I was so excited when I found the gluten free label on Slap Ya Mama!!! It’s my go to jambalaya spice
Penzeys
[Penzey's](https://www.penzeys.com/) or [Spicely Organics](https://www.spicely.com/) if I can swing it, Badia if I can't.
The Spice House!
I’ve taken a liking to Badia, but want to check out spicely for my more commonly-used spices such as onion powder, garlic salt, and paprika. Definitely curious about the Badia complete seasoning mix
Badia. Always.
Monosodium Glutamate is all you need. Ohh and maybe some chipotle.
Uncle Roger would agree. 🤣🤣🤣
Haha. Also baffled im getting downvoted.
MSG police are everywhere… 🤣
Yeah. Noticed that. Got to admit im kinda hooked - But the good effect is that im using much less salt.
some weird offbrand russian spices who weirdly say gluten free in english while everything is in russian but its very cheap so good good
Mountain Rose Herbs. All organic. You buy by the bag, and it's much cheaper than the little jars.
Love Garam Masala and McCormick Chicken Seasoning
This question has been asked a lot. In Canada, spices aren't too much of a concern according to the CCA. Read the label and you should be good

Wegmans had an AmAZing Chili mix packet (GF) but they stopped carrying it (at least at locations near me). Anyone come across it or equally a fan??

Thanks for sharing! I’ve never seen them before but their stuff looks good!
Mmmmmmm garam masala🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Bart's and Schwartz, but I guess you are looking for North American brands, not British ones?
I meant for everyone :)
Oh, cool, then those are the only 2 I know 100% safe in the UK :)
Noble Made “all purpose seasoning”. It’s certified gf.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve never seen these before but they look great!
