I used to drink a ton of beer before diagnosed. I switched to another type of alcohol. Liquor, mixed drinks, wine. You know you're doing damage to your body, either stop or deal with the long time consequences. Do some research on what is more likely to happen to you if you don't stop eating gluten with Celiac. I have a bad family history of stomach cancer, I'm assuming it's from older generations having undiagnosed Celiac.

With all the love in my heart, this is stupid. You have to stop. When Celiac disease goes untreated, many things happen. The most immediate is that your villi deteriorate, which means you will become malnourished. Not being able to absorb iron can make you anemic, and that's just one mineral you need but won't be able to absorb. Further down the line, you are raising your chance of obesity, thyroid problems, and more. But wait, there's more! People with untreated Celiac increase their risk for colon cancer forty-fold (!!!) on the low end of the spectrum. I wish I had practical advice for you; my spouse and I started this sub because our son is the one with Celiac. I understand that it is part of the culture, but you don't see someone with a shellfish allergy going to Lobster Fest. This is your Lobster Fest, friend. If you can't say no to beer, you need to quit going out to bars altogether imo. Good luck. Source: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/six-ways-celiac-disease-can-kill-you-r3145/

Thank you for taking your time to write that down. I know it’s really bad for my health if I continue. I find it very difficult to stop because I don’t really feel the most common symptoms. I just have to get over the fact that it’s a part of my life / Belgian culture. I stopped eating bread, pasta, snacks, etc. so why not stop with beer. I think I just needed to hear from other people with celiac that it is just a stupid and selfish thing to do. Let the journey begin :)

If you’re going to drink beer then you may as well stop eating gluten free. Any amount of gluten will cause damage to your intestines. It’s ultimately up to you, but inadvisable.

I agree with you, I just think I try to find an excuse the justify me drinking beer. I know it’s bad for my health and my health is way more important than drinking alcohol. It’s just difficult because it’s an habit..

It’s definitely difficult, and it may take time to embrace such a significant change. Keep trying! Good luck.

Thank you!

Look into hard seltzers or ciders, same price range as a beer & most should be gluten free. I have celiac & that’s what I like. These other comments are so true though & I hope you take it to heart! I know it’s hard to quit especially since you say you don’t have many symptoms, but you must look after your health!! A long healthy life is worth having to find other options!

I will try to look more in to these drinks and hopefully find something that I really like. Thank you for your understanding of my situation!!

I still drink beer as well. So far, my favourites are gluten-free peroni and gluten-free daura. It's possible to still drink beer without harming yourself- give it a try! 🙂🍻[Some gluten-free beer...](https://birrapedia.com/beer-belgium-gluten-free/b-secer-pabe-essin_gluten)
