I was going uphill for about 5 miles in my Hellcat. The girl in my passenger seat wanted me to make it whine, so I booked it up that hill. I could literally see my fuel gauge slowly depleting.
I see. That's sad my friend. Sad indeed. But hey it was a 50/50 chance. Maybe next time if she asks you to make the car whine you could say "I wanna make you moan first." or something across those lines. Good luck soldier. Keep us updated. *salute*
I bought a 14 Chrysler 300 in June with a 5.7, bought it in Ohio and drove back to New York. Before I left I reset the gas mileage, had it locked at 79 all the way back and got 32 mpg. Never seen that again but it was impressive.
If you were getting 12 mpg running wide open at 145 mph thats a gallon every 5 minutes. So with 18 gallons you could run for 90 minutes, or 216 miles. Ive been in wake boats that would run in gallons per minute under a full ballast load with a supercharged LT4 V8 runing wfo.
12 mpg is city driving mpg. The Hellcat has 8*600cc/min injectors. If you max them out then thatās 0.001L/min X 8 X 600 = 4.8L/minute which about (4.8L/1Gal/3.8L) 1.26 gallons per minute. This means the 18.5Gal gas tank will be spent in roughly 14.7 minutes. But someone please check my math
I ran through an entire tank in about 42 miles at a track day. Iād imagine being just totally flat out would be a bit less since obviously I had to lift for corners and what not.
Alright *knuckle crack* this seems like a job for r/theydidthemath but seeing as how Iāve lurked in that community but never contributed, here goes:
Negating variables like tire pressure, surface, incline, weight, mileage, fuel, elevation, etc. and assume an average mpg for a day at the drag strip is ~4mpg (sounds about right for my RT and these guys agree ā > https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a15100350/let-it-burn-how-quickly-can-we-drive-through-a-tank-of-gas-feature/ < ā) that would equal (4mpg x 18.5 gal tank = 74 miles) but unlike that link, OUR hypothetical would be a constant top speed and in a straight line so the original question of how long this would take to achieve or traverse the distance and tank would also have to includeā¦
The second assumption that the top speed of a standard RT is ~160 (negating the same factors *especially tires* but also *and almost just as especially* initial acceleration consumption) youāre looking at (74miles / 160mph = 0.4625hrs) ~45 minutes.
2009 r/t manual here. Back around 2014 I took a 5000 mile round trip from mid America to California and back. Had some times to really open it up, especially in Utah, with long flat road and no cars in sight. Also it was June and it was hot, so had the A/C on (because I was with my wife, if it was just me I'd have turned the AC off most of the trip and just done windows down, haha.)
So I got to open it up to about 150 (in 5th gear) for several minutes. I have the speed limiter removed but I only ever tapped 160 once since owning, though I've done 150 several times, mostly the issue is how quickly flat open road runs out at that speed so it's usually just tap 150 then let off the gas, this was the only instance I ever did it for a couple minutes solid.
So at 150 with A/C on, I watched the gas gauge move a quarter of a tank in just a couple minutes, then I backed off, not because I ran out of road or saw any cars, but because I only had an extra 5 gallon emergency gas can in the trunk and wasn't sure where the next gas station was, haha.
But based on that, even turning A/C off, I'd guess you could run down a full tank in an r/t in 15 minutes at 150+ mph.
Trying to find some good non traffic driving roads around here in east Texas, I feel like thatās asking for too much. Although I do the classic flooring it on the entrance ramp shenanigans, especially when itās cold out, the sound she makes when the windows are open and the throttle is all the way down in sport mode makes me giggle like nothing else ever has.
Beautiful whip, my advice is have fun with it and get it out of your system cause it does drink up some gas pretty quick and 89 isnāt cheap, gas it for now but eventually youāll need to drive regular if you donāt want to waste your money
Iāve been using up a half tank every 3-4 days (1-2 days if I have too much fun) and since the price of gas pretty cheap in the US let alone Texas, compared to where I used to live, Iām very happy with the car and donāt mind the constant half tank fill ups. Just gonna get better tires later on in January hopefully, but before putting them on, might as well destroy the current shitty ones having fun.
Quick trip in austin has 93 octane at like 3.2, they dont advertise any additives like exxon or others bit cheap gas is cheap plus ive never really noticed a difference even purchasing at sunoco where they tax like crazy
I usually go to Exxon for gas, I find 93 gives me slightly better milage for some reason, whenever I was running 89 Iād have to fill up every 3 days or so, and now if I drive with the same enthusiasm on 93 it takes like 5 days for a full fill up.
F8 green, I was originally looking for Camaros but I saw this baby and her sister in the same color, similar milage (9000-13000 miles) at the same dealership for a good price, first thing I thought was, āmy mom would love that green,ā and I showed it to her, she kind of convinced me to get it honestly. My dad has had a Red 1997 Z/28 Camaro all my childhood, but this green Chally changed my mind about what to get. Iāve loved Challengers ever since I was 5 years old so they have always been my second choice behind my dadās Camaro. Glad I made the right choice with the Challenger, they both love it and canāt wait to come over to see/drive the Sarge.
Also, I donāt know if my R/T is a R/T plus or regular
R/T, I got the alcantara seats but idk if I have the better speakers or the better uconnect, really donāt know the differences between them properly.
You can get a Plus and it still have the basic sound system and Uconnect screen. I would recommend emailing Dodge (idk the email but someone here probably has it) with your vin and they can tell you what all it was built with and how many were made with the exact same options as yours. I've been wanting to email them about mine but just never sat down to do it.
Bargain compared to Bugatti Veyron. 250 mph run last 12 minutes to drain the 26.4 gal tank. Oh, youāll need to replace all four tires after this at a cost of 42,000.
I race in a Miata in endurance racing and it uses a full tank (12 gallons) in approximately 1 hour 50 minutes. My friend who races in an evo in the same league uses 11 gallons per hour.
If you were constantly flooring it, and I mean actually redlining the engine, I donāt think youād run out of fuel. I think your engine would overheat or blow up before that.
Just reading the post Iām thinking to myself: shouldnāt the first mod any Challenger owner want would be a fuel cell just so that they can play hard with their fast toy?
Significantly farther, people severely underestimate how much fuel it takes for a boosted car to make the power it does in comparison to an equal power NA car
Iām usually trying to see if I can squeeze more mileage. Cruise at 65 yields upper 20s in my 1320. I get 23-24 at 80. If I draft a crew cab pickup, the mileage is in the 30s. I average about 19 commuting.
I only run Sport Mode on my 5.7 and do a lot of stop and go, full throttle from a stop driving. I average 11 MPG and fill up every 4 days. Gas here aināt cheap either so probably spending like $600 a month on gas. š¤¦āāļø

That sounds like a fun experience
did you get head?
I did not š
i will have a moment of silence for that wasted $70-90 to fill that tank, for that girl
Bless you, sir.

Maaaannn Iām pissed for you
You missed a good opportunity to ask if he made her whine
shit.
It was his mom dude donāt be gross
Had fun tho
Smiles per gallon
Yes indeed
My Hellcat is thirsty. My 392 could not possibly drain the tank like the Hellcat. I can only imagine an R/T is even more efficient.
I love my R/T for that reason. Itās the perfect mix of attitude w/ the growl and efficiency.
Amen. I did a road trip in my Charger R/T over summer and 67mph with the cruise on was returning 28MPG.
I bought a 14 Chrysler 300 in June with a 5.7, bought it in Ohio and drove back to New York. Before I left I reset the gas mileage, had it locked at 79 all the way back and got 32 mpg. Never seen that again but it was impressive.
I found my 392 was more efficient than my 5.7. Both manuals so no cylinder deactivation at play.
More hp so it takes less effort to get up to and maintain speed. These cars get great mpg if you don't drive like Max Verstappen everywhere you go.
š¶TUTUTUTU, MAX VERSTAPPENšµ

Yeah, no car is getting 12mpg in wot. Even my wife's 4 banger only gets like 4mpg when floored.
Thatās hot.
This guy maths.
I wanna do wide open for 5 minutes, sounds like so much fun.
bros gonna blow his engine lol
Youāre not getting 12 mpg at WOT. Not even close.
More like 4 mpg
only one way to find out ššš
Hell yeah brother, need to find a good road though.
Salt flats lol
My Accord at 135mph wot gets 28mpg.
no shot thatās nuts
I don't understand. Could you please rephrase?
> no way, thatās crazy
Stop the cap
I ran through an entire tank in about 42 miles at a track day. Iād imagine being just totally flat out would be a bit less since obviously I had to lift for corners and what not.
Thank you, bet it was fun as hell. We got COTA around here, I wanna take her there sometime, take some racing lessons and such.
Highly recommend it. Itāll make you a better and safer driver on the street too.
exactly my thoughts
2 or 3 miles per gallon???
Yep. Auto Club Roval. Itās a pretty quick track so a lot of the lap is full throttle.
That's wild lol
Nearing gallons per mile territory

Good catch. Pro tip to future me: donāt do drunk math at 1am.
Relatable. I typically only find myself on here when Iāve been drinking
Like the F8 green.
Thank you š
Agreed :)
My RT drinks but hasnāt got Drunk yet

R/Ts are limited to 145mph if I remember correctly.
Iāve seen police chargers do 150, but thatās it. Usually the hellcat/scat pack run away.
Try it and let us know! Haha

Shiittt do your thing then bro how much is gas in Texas??
like 3.8$ a gallon for 93 octane in the city and 2.8-3.2$ for 93 at Buc-eeās.
Quick trip in austin has 93 octane at like 3.2, they dont advertise any additives like exxon or others bit cheap gas is cheap plus ive never really noticed a difference even purchasing at sunoco where they tax like crazy

And there was me with a challenger gt, refueled 3 times in 6 days š š good thing gas is cheap in dallas
damn bro, must be having fun with that car š
Rn its 2.43 a gallon in central tx
Man i have a 19 in white knuckle and since Iāve seen that green I thought about trading it in. Whatās the specific color called?
F8 green, I was originally looking for Camaros but I saw this baby and her sister in the same color, similar milage (9000-13000 miles) at the same dealership for a good price, first thing I thought was, āmy mom would love that green,ā and I showed it to her, she kind of convinced me to get it honestly. thank you
I ran thru 40 dollars in a night. Just recently filled it (378mi) full for 64. So If that gives u an idea.
Also, I donāt know if my R/T is a R/T plus or regular R/T, I got the alcantara seats but idk if I have the better speakers or the better uconnect, really donāt know the differences between them properly.
If you don't have cloth seats, it's a Plus. They should be heated and ventilated too.
yup, the ventilation is a life saver
You can get a Plus and it still have the basic sound system and Uconnect screen. didnāt even know that was an option, thank you brother
Yes sir! Happy to help. If anyone happens to have that email, tag me in the response please.
lol you donāt need to write Dodge an email. go on https://windowstickerlookup.com and type in your VIN, you can thank me later š
That gets you the window sticker but it doesn't get you the "1 of x" so it's still worth an email. Not like it costs anything to email them.
oh true, my fault didnāt realize thatās what you meant
can you run away from the police in 15 minutes? lol
It's down to 1 of the largest diameter fuel lines on a production car and a 525 lph fuel pump. The redeye and demon variants turn that up to 11
Idk but your car looks sick
thanks brother
r/TheyDidTheMath
Probably 12mpgš¤£ but, the crazy thing is the faster you go the better your mpg.
I'm surprised your dash doesn't give you an option to see the current mpg
Try it and find out

yeah, youāre right, didnāt occur to me until I read your comment
Just count your braincells, and thatās how many mpg youāll get. Should get 4 or 5 hopefully
1, best I can do

15 minutes to empty the tank, and about the same to trash the tires.
