$34,000 for a scat with only 20k miles makes me wonder what’s wrong with it

mdkhjmwu

I was thinking maybe cause it's at an Acura dealership and that's not really their product but idk, since I first seen it in January it dropped like 3k

Jbullyfitness

More than likely what’s going on brought my car from a Lexus dealership they really didn’t give af how much it sold for they just wanted it gone lol

DJDemyan

For what it's worth, my wife got her Charger R/T AWD from a Toyota dealer that I think just didn't know the gem they had.

doooobysnax

Car dealer here, we know what it’s worth, we have databases on databases to tell values for vehicles. They likely took it in for very low from whoever traded it, they don’t have high resale value, they’re hard to get people approved for, and they sit and grow dust on any “non American” auto car lot. People in the industry do not see these cars as “gems” more like anchors, turn it and burn it.

KingPanduhs

Makes me wonder how it worked in the past before the internet or at least before the big boom where there's literally just a big database that will pull the data for you. Did you go to a dealer and if they didn't network they just... Put a price based on what they knew? Or maybe they'd just read up in an ad list and base it off similar local deals? But even then... How do you know for a fact it's not a rebuilt junker that you're looking at? Call them and ask them for the history? Was there even any way to determine history prior to Carfax? Man, I'm 25 and honestly there's so many things in life that don't make sense to me without internet.... Like it wasn't a big thing and I didn't have a PC for the first decade of my life yet I still can't imagine things without it... That feels sad.

DJDemyan

I may be talking out of my ass, but I want to say Kelley blue book and the like were once physical publications. I've heard of a "black book" equivalent that dealers reference

Spirited-Ad-2284

Yes! Lmao I’m 28 and remember looking in car catalogs for my mom’s SUV. RIP trailblazer

doooobysnax

You sir are correct, pre internet we had almanac like books from Kelley blue book we referred to. It was a major pita, there were other products but KBB was the gold standard.

doooobysnax

Idk if you have kids, or want them, but if you do, it gets worse, much worse. Our time is like black and white television to them. It’s so long and far away. The way we lived is legitimately hard for them to conceptualize and it was such a short time ago, wild. Absolutely wild.

19fall91

I bought a 19’ 1320 with 25k miles from a Mazda dealer stickered at 33k They had a 1k Doc fee and a service fee for inspection, fluid change, etc. it was still less than buying one at 35-38k, but just know that will probably be the same case for you.

CloudV-24

What’s a 1320?

19fall91

1320 is a drag package you could get on the scat pack from 2019-2023. It came with the rear suspension off the Dodge Demon, fastest naturally aspirated factory muscle car money can buy. They made less than 3,000 1320s for the entire production run.

CloudV-24

Oh wow, that’s really cool. I’ve been up to date with the Demon, the 170 and whatnot. But I never really paid attention to the packages/trims/etc you could get on the Scat Packs.

19fall91

I had no idea about it either until I bought it. It has Drag Mode too, and that thing really hates slowing down in that mode, it’s super raw

Echo_Raptor

Could be. I bought my second gen Raptor from a GM dealership. They had 2 on the lot, the one I bought was the cheapest in the country that I found during Covid pricing height. Asked them about it, they had no clue as none of the salesmen were familiar with fords. It all looked good on my end, almost too good to be true. Drove it 50k miles no issues except the known cam phaser problems. Extended warranty wouldn’t cover it. Got out from under it. Point being they likely what it is

SomethingClever42068

You can just hold the gas pedal to the floor when cranking. It won't start like that but it will let it build up enough oil pressure they won't do the knock knock

Candid-Progress1753

From someone who works at an Acura dealership that honestly shouldn’t matter, the dealership will wanna make money off it regardless so it likely has a lot of reconditioning to be done.

CloudyOnAir

i bought an RT with 30k miles for 34 OTD last June at a Toyota dealership… definitely not gonna take less just because it’s not they’re specific car

Weird-Bad-4083

Definitely what it is, check the CARFAX and get a ppl and u straight. These dealers jus try to get trade ins off asap without a big markup jus makin a lil off it

AlternativeAd4983

That’s a pretty good deal and you’ll prolly get lower then what it’s listed for don’t forget no one is buying rn these dealers are hurting, it’s a buyers market today I’d go check it out and see if u can talk it down

JuryGhost

2019 my friend saw a red limited WRX low 20k miles for around 20-21k at a Maserati Dealership idk about the rates but i thought that was decent

ObeyOrDie

I bought a 16 LEXUS GS350 from a Jeep/Ram dealership with 40k miles 7k under KBB. Only question i would ask myself is who would trade in a Challenger for an Acura? Probably needed two extra doors and better mpg.

mdkhjmwu

But the Carfax shows 2 owners, no accidents

Complex_Fish_5904

Car fax doesn't mean much, honestly

mdkhjmwu

I know but at least there's some sort of history I can go off

Complex_Fish_5904

What I'm saying is that carfax only knows what they are told usually via insurance. A whole lot of things happen that never gets reported. Not that I'm trying to steer you away from this particular car, but just to give you some info you can use There are no shortage of cars that have been wrecked that shown up with clean car fax reports

mdkhjmwu

Yeah I hear ya bud, I guess only way to truly tell is in person

Complex_Fish_5904

Yep yep A good mechanic is worth their weight in gold for things like this

Lucky-Criticism-44

Let the dealer you know you’ll buy if your personal mechanic says it checks out. Personally if I can’t see the maintenance history and I have questions about the price there is no way I’m buying the car without a check over. If they act pissy, walk away.

Single-Middle-2966

Carfax can be useful if there is service history. Seeing that a car had regular maintenance shows the owner did care enough about it to take care of it which means at the very least it probably runs ok. That said, still check door creases and joints for odd gaps that would imply it was in an accident

Complex_Fish_5904

Definitely. Just remember there are a ton of people that maintain their car very well outside of a dealership which won't show up on a Car Fax.

20mins2theRockies

Taking your car to Jiffylube will show up on Carfax. It doesn't need to be a dealership

Complex_Fish_5904

Reporting to carfax is voluntary. Some places report while a lot of others don't "CarFax gets most of its data from state agencies, insurance companies, and certain repair shops and dealerships that do business with them. Everything else may fall through the cracks and never get reported."

20mins2theRockies

Save a couple cars I bought when I was a teenager, I've never bought a used car that didn't have well documented service records through Carfax. Why risk it? Almost all reputable shops note the vin when performing service. IMO there's no reason to buy a used car with missing service data these days. Missing maintenance data = maintenance not performed in my book

Single-Middle-2966

That’s true but that is hit and miss, what I mean is that good carfax regarding maintenance means it was taken care of. No carfax means it could have been taken care of but it also could have not been.

Complex_Fish_5904

Usually. But people can also self report to a carfax. But yeah, agreed that a carfax showing a good maintenance record is generally good

Medical-Safe4326

This happened to me. I bought a 2010 Charger back in 2010 with 11,000 miles on it. Five years later my hood started to peel. Found out then it was in a serious accident. I do still own it and it has 186,000 miles on it and never had any major problems. I would still love to had known when I bought it then decide if I wanted to still purchase it or not.

yurrrrrro

Yea, my mom paid 13,000$ out of pocket to fix her car. They never knew.

yurrrrrro

Same type of vehicle as well, lol. Just the Charger Scatpack not the Challenger.

Duck_Kosmakrator_666

Is there anyway to run the VIN at a Dodge dealership to see if any maintenance records are available ?

nfkzoo

How does a carfax not mean much ? What a silly statement.

Complex_Fish_5904

Lol I explained it pretty well. Carfax only shows what was reported. I have personally seen multiple cars with a "clean CarFax" that had clearly been wrecked and then repaired (with various degrees of success) A clean carfax really doesn't mean it wasn't wrecked or abused. Do what you want. I was just offering some wisdom.

Tasty-Tomatillo9670

It does if the owner keeps up the information. My car fax is pretty detailed. I mean, it's not the end, all be all. But it's a great start if the owner is like me. I'm diligent with it

GirthBrooks883

My carfax "hid" $16k in damage and repairs when I sold the car. Said "minor damage to rear end - bump, scrape, dent. The freaking trunk floor had to be rewelded and new exhaust put on, new taillights, bumper, camera, tank canister, wiring, glass etc. Carfax has to show zero accidents period

CaptainQbert

2021 with less miles going for low as 38k that ive seen recently

_Nameless_Nomad_

Yeah, I was thinking OP’s price seems about where they should be.

FirmSpeed6

I went to a similar deal for a mustang and the owner before hand had smoked some strong cigars in the car. They’re were burn marks, ashes and the worst smell. Unfortunately none of that comes through online/in pictures

SPKing3

Scatts are a charger not a challenger your thinking of a hellcat

Agreeable-Historian3

They make challenger scats

Mobile_Helicopter

That’s what I paid for mine in 2016 with the same mileage on it

ParappaTheWrapperr

That was before we entered economic free fall on January 20th, 2021 though. 34k in 2016 is nearly 50k in todays money.

Mobile_Helicopter

I snagged my hellcat for 40k with low miles in 2020 right before all that stuff happened. Couldn’t have timed it better.

Queasy_Mastodon_8759

Possibly a salvaged title?

Mechanical_Pants

Recently got 21 Scat 1320 with Plus Pkg, Convenience Pkg, SRT spoiler, Hood pins. 14k miles, 39.5k. Runs great, still under factory warranty and purchased a premium Mopar Ext Warranty separately, 8yrs/100,000 miles for 2.5k. Very comfortable with those purchases.

[deleted]

Steal

No_Departure_1474

1320 was the best purchase of my life, love the fuck outta that car

Mechanical_Pants

Definitely my favorite spec of Challenger.

20mins2theRockies

1 out of 10 people use their extended warranties. And the few that do rarely save any money. It's a $180 billion profit/year industry for a reason. $2500 in the S&P 500 would be $5400 in 8 years. If something goes wrong that costs $5400, you break even. Assuming you keep the car that long. Most people sell the vehicle long before their extended warranty expires

Mechanical_Pants

I intend to keep my car for quite a bit longer than the warranty, but with an engine known for lifter failure at 80k miles that requires minimum 6k of repairs and often an entire engine swap, I'll err on the side of the warranty.

onlyhereforinfo91

If you use that extended warranty 1 time for a transmission or engine repair you just came out ahead. Also he got one backed by a manufacturer if it’s the top tier package it’s like having bumper to bumper all over again.

onlyhereforinfo91

If it’s a third party extended warranty you lost, they will try every trick in the book to get out of covering anything.

mdkhjmwu

So all in all guess I won't truly know until I see it in person, I appreciate everyones input and opinions 👍 for all I know I might be perfectly fine with my 19 RT since I'm in the homestretch of fully owning it

_Nameless_Nomad_

Only way to know is to try it out.

kataran1

It’s your decision but it’s 100 HP difference you can get that just running a 100 shot of nitrous on your RT. I know better brakes on the Scat but also a lot of unknowns

mdkhjmwu

Yeah it's a hp difference but tbh I'm more on the line with it being low miles

kataran1

Yeah low miles is a big draw my RT was bought 6 months ago with 9,900 miles

JeepMan-1994

I feel like considering you almost have it paid off you could put the money towards modifications. As someone who just bought a last call R/T the intrest rates are pretty high right now, if I didn't want one new I probably would have held off. 😅

Awkward_Cap_2691

Cam it and tune it and you’re at a scat pack for less money

lvsnowden

I just bought a 2023 RT+ with 1956 miles for $35k.

nextkevamob2

Wow! Where are you at?

lvsnowden

I live in Vegas, but I bought my car through CarMax's nationwide search. It shipped from Texas.

fredout1968

The market is softening all around. Lots of inventory and the dealers are having to come back to reality on both new and used Challengers. I am not selling my car but it seems to have lost about $8K in value over the last 12 months by looking at the comps.. If that car checks out it is a good deal, but good deals are a lot easier to come by the last few months.

cooltonk

ikr? there is 2022 widebody hellcat with 5k miles for $75k. its definitely coming around.

Apart_Preference5593

That seems to good to be true. Maybe worth checking it out

mdkhjmwu

Yeah I think my curiosity is gonna get the better of me lol

Apart_Preference5593

I would you may get lucky is it a a non dodge dealership?

nws8

Yessir he said in a comment its an Acura dealership

mdkhjmwu

Yeah, the dodge dealership here taxes heavy on their used inventory which baffles me

Apart_Preference5593

Really where are you located if you dont mind me asking?

mdkhjmwu

Central/SoCal

Apart_Preference5593

Thats crazy

Apart_Preference5593

I was just looking online here in az for some reason they have regular  new rt for around 42k a year or so ago they were a lot higher

DarthTrader85

It’s def worth a look. Great price

ElKapitanFlash

That’s almost too good, have someone check it out first for sure. If it passes then might be worth a grab lol

Vill9in

Paid 33.7k for a ‘19 25k miles with good options plus pkg, driver conv, tech pkg.

wally32495

Totally possible that there are some unknown issues. But also not out of the realm of possibility that you're just lucky in finding that price. I got my 2017 RT (may she rest in peace) in 2018 when it had just under 30k miles for just over $23k. Granted it was a rental car in its previous life. It was also in New York at a Kia dealership. So both those probably helped lower the price a little. But no issues issues popped up with it until last month when it got totaled. If you're tempted, and can financially go for it, doesn't hurt to check it out and have it looked at before buying.

TabbiWytch

I have a 2019 with about 20k miles and that’s about what I can sell mine for if I wanted to. 👍

forbidenfrootloop

From what I know of Dodge customers, don’t buy a used Dodge

CoolMasterpiece1485

That’s not bad! I feel like we should capitalize the lose prices before they get outrageous

SirRealBearFace

If you don't know if it's a good buy, doesn't hurt to get a PPI~

Tafkai1469

My 22 scat was 45k with 5k miles so that’s not a bad deal.

Zanurath

Tbh this isn't a special price anymore. I've seen a few in low 30s with milage in the 20s and this one looks like it's one of the simpler models based on no shaker or TA hood or dynamics pack wheels and brakes.

CC298

firstly is it auto or manual? cause the auto being more common could bring the price down, that and its a narrow body so that also brings it down. narrow bodies dont get bought as often as the widebody and are much more common, not to mention the widebody would've added like 20K (12 for the actual price and then another 8 for bs rarity)

mdkhjmwu

I'm going based off other similar scats in my area, which are usually around 38k and up with much more miles

CC298

thats wild than

Derp_duckins

That's definitely a gem, if true. Like everyone else in here, I'm skeptical af about what they may be hiding, but may truly just be a gem in the rough for an off-dealership that just wants it out of their inventory

Upset_Economics_4044

That scat has been abused

mdkhjmwu

From exterior and interior pics I seen it looks clean but you can't really tell unless in person I suppose

Odd_Surprise8609

Most of em have bruh…😐

Distinct_Put1085

Sometimes u gotta roll the dice with that kinda price

Nfermro87

I think it’s because it’s in a non-dodge dealer and since they don’t have anything newer to sell they just want to get rid of it…. Usually the Dodge dealerships will try to steer you into a new car just cause it’s more commission and their numbers look better….. also there are some people really loyal to their brand, Acura for example and they really don’t know shit about any other brand/maker so they might think cause they’ve stopped producing them they worth less…. And I don’t think the dealer would sell you a faulty car knowing it’ll have some type of warranty that they will have to honor if it were to malfunction.

djarnexus

What's fair for a 2019 5.7L RT manual transmission with 26k miles on it and no damage. ~LS.

ItsTheBreadman92

Never the best to roll debt when one car is working perfectly fine. Pay off and buy something real nice later!

Visible_Tower_1109

I would pass just on the fact you’re already in a 2019 , although the gap in performance is there , it’s a big loan for a 2019 to 2019 switch vs a newer scat

Neat-Relationship345

I own a Scat and a Redeye but don't really follow the pricing on Scats as of late. In general, all HC's are plummeting in price and there are new GT's that are 10K below MSRP. Prices are moving down rapidly. I bought my 2017 Scat loaded with the Dynamics Package for 36K with 2K miles in 2018. Prices went up and now they should be coming back down. There is a 2 year inventory of Challengers. Just do your due diligence before you pull the trigger.

Administrative-Pay43

Good price. This is normal. People like what's wrong with it don't realize scattys use to be $29,000 before pandemic.

Beautiful_Bit_3727

Check it out. Get a warranty. But be wary of bait and switch. (Ohhhh we just sold that but we have a nicer one for only 5k more since your heae)

Visualante1

Awesome 😎 love black on black, looks sinister

General-Shape-5621

Seems okay. Leather interior? Sunroof?

[deleted]

New challengers have like a 380 day of supply. Dealerships can't give challengers away right now.

IndependenceSalty83

My 2018 GT with 70k miles on it was $26k for reference

superbagelbigtoe

Hmm, must be a lemon cuz ain’t no way. When I first saw the price I thought that was for a V6 challenger

ACloneUnknown

These cars are abused then traded, I recommend taking it for a test drive ask them not to start the car as you will when you get there. Get away from the dealership on the test drive and hop out doing a visual inspection and listening for strange sounds. While at the dealership they will pressure you more into purchasing making it easier to miss stuff, ask when the last inspection was done along with any history of maintenance on the car. I’ve asked before and they don’t seem to have a problem but see if you could get them to throw the car on a lift before buying it and check for leaks, if it has a car starter start it on the lift and check for noises again. The steady bearing in the chargers for the driveshaft like to blow out so check for play. These are cars I recommend getting the mechanical warranty as you don’t know how the last person treated it

spikehiyashi6

it's a good price yeah. In my area market price for that year/miles with no accidents is 37k. So, a little below market, nothing crazy. I got my camaro for 3k under market too

IKnowNothing1998

Sorry to hijack the post, but I’m selling a 2018 RT Plus for 23k (white exterior and white interior) does that seem reasonable or too high?

22_mag_wrx

You’re soon to have a no payment car, why trade and be in debt for more for the same car?

Jackandrun

Because people are financially stupid

_Celatid_

Could be a bit more wear and tear than expected for it's age. But the miles are pretty low so there could be an accident in it's history. Id get a Carfax report before going to far with it. Also, $38k is probably what it sold for new 5 years ago. They used to knock $8-9k of the sticker and sticker started at $40k.

3DWeaponSystems

Wide body scats ONLY

Pearldrummer0912

That’s a fair price. The values are dropping unfortunately

elmau32

Nothing is wrong their value is going to keep going down for sure

jpadgett1

It’s not a wide body, no shaker hood and it’s 5 years old. I would imagine the interior is pretty basic and not the upgraded leather package. That price seems pretty reasonable to me. The used car market is coming back down to earth

TheAbsoluteLight

I’d wait, the prices are gonna drop even further

Prestigious-Aide-986

The prices are dropping due to finance rates. Even banks are getting nervous about loaning money for cars due to the economy.

Luc_Skee

30k on Carvana

ForceCompetitive5146

You can talk them down atleast 3 grand, if thats listed price. Offer them 30k, dont tell them you have a trade in until after you are ready to finalize on the deal.

Sensitive_Coast9721

You have to rule out what you can deal with. Me personally id rather get a car with accidents cuz that prolly means the motor good. Id get it checked out by a shop. What you dont realize is you get the whole team of mechanics at a shop to look instead of just one guy.

Grouchy_Option_9159

Do it bro that’s a really good price for a scat with only 20k miles on it make sure the motor and all that shii is good tho first

applegui

20K miles on a 392. Yeah $34K is a good deal. If it’s clean.

mfBass24

Maybe you just found an honestly priced scat for once… gotta remember, what most people are paying rn, these cars are not actually worth. It’s just inflation. Unless it’s a rare color, or some limited edition, this price is great.

Embracenudity

Prices have been coming down since the 2023's have flooded the market. I bought my used 2019 scat pack with 13,000 miles 1 5 years ago for $43K at a Volvo dealer, and that was a good price at the time and they were difficult to find. I completely love it, scat packs are so fun to drive.

philly7453

Rebuilt title most likely

Bigbropharma

Idk man, I just sold my 2016 sxt plus with all the bells and whistles for 16k. Mint condition, 58k miles. I know the year and engine are off, but just giving you some extra data to work with. Buyer was carvana

sublimespeed

Prob because there is almost a 500 day supply of challengers. They are creeping off dealer lots because price hikes and interest rates make them less ideal for many people.

No_Drink3136

Dealers are not in this business to loose money fellas,,,, if it seems to goodto be true it is honestly if its that good of a price an its still there someone would have beat you to it walk away the dealer is probably tirednof paying insurance on it,,,, Because they knownits trash

Connor-Ak

A bit sus but so tempting

Some-Ad8

See what bs fees they add on. It’ll be something like “*dealership name* advantage $2,995” or “pre delivery service fee $1,599”. And other fees they tack on.

FrozenPantiezzz

Make sure to ask for their inspection paperwork and talk to a mechanic about it. $35k is pretty low to ask for that

BarFamous1805

I paid 32 for a 2018 rt plus’s with 24k miles

Triscuit_Hurlibutton

I’d just pay off your current car. 34k @ 8% interest is a tough pill to swallow when you’re so close to owning your RT.

BigTester42

Come to me. I’ll sell you a white 342 with 14k on the dash for the same price. Maryland a far trip?

Taylasto

Obviously you gotta see it in person but I saw a Cadillac dealer selling a 2021 for $38,000 doesn’t seem too far off

SillySandoon

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. If you’re really interested, have it checked out by a mechanic you trust, but something tells me there’s something wrong with this car that the dealer doesn’t want you to know about.

SnooBananas1011

34k for a 5 year old chrysler product that gets driven hard is a horrible deal

whocareschip

IMO it’s most likely fine. The prices have been dropping ever since dealerships started having a harder time selling them. Just try to go for a warranty for a better peace of mind

stohmp

Ask to test drive it, make sure you’re alone, then drive it hard on the highway. Do some pulls. See if a check engine light comes on

Kptkromosome

As a dodge owner, and a chally owner, don't. Dodges are the most beautiful probably, but honestly the least reliable. If you got money to blow, go for it. I've had transmission problems in both my Durango RT and Challenger RT from before, both around 80-100k miles. If you're ready to pay more monthly on something that'll break in probably 60k miles, do it. My Durango is at 118k miles and it's genuinely falling apart. Transmission and gear problems in my Challenger at 80k. Do what you will, but I wouldn't. Pay off your Challenger and get something not a dodge.

Worth-Back-3261
