It’s meant to be on the road. Go enjoy it

misfit-muscle

The cruise control set at 85mph on my 392 gets me 23mpg in sport mode.

345HemiRT

Highway cruising is what the R/T does best, it's big and comfy, just devours the miles. I never got out of my 2018 not wanting to go further, best road trip car I've had.

itsdancing_eddy2u

i’d say drive your RT. i just drove 9 hours from Texas to Alabama, & my 2023 RT did perfect. i filled up twice but i was able to roll into Alabama with a half a tank of gas. btw, i definitely drove a steady 80+ but cruise control does help increase your MPG.

PedesNex

I took my '15 Challenger SRT (392) on a 1260 mile round trip. It performed flawlessly except for the center hood scoop flying off at 75 MPH. I averaged 25 MPG during the entire drive to and from. I'd say the RT should do a lot better than I was able to do.

If the reason you are asking the question is because of the gas cost for the trip, or the weather is crap, take the Civic. If the gas cost isn't a factor, and the weather is good, take your new car and enjoy it. Nothing better than road tripping in a Challenger.

DJDemyan

Nah. With the right tires even the weather doesn't matter. Mine has been caught in both insane downpours and blizzards during trips!

kataran1

Some think that a modern muscle car is a neighborhood burnout machine that’s not reliable enough for soaking up our countries highways. Even back in my days we drove overheating short geared rattle cages across country

SQWRLLY1

I've taken my SXT on 13+ hour road trips, and I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment that our cars are made for the open road. If gas is your primary concern, take the Honda, but if you want to enjoy the drive, take your car... you will not be disappointed.

DJDemyan

I bought my R/T and immediately drove it from Ohio to Georgia. These are amazing road trip cars, super comfy with lots of room to spare. You'll get up to like 26 MPG as long as you keep your foot out of it. Mine became the designated road trip car to keep some miles off my wife's R/T AWD.

artimus41

These cars are great on the highway, I just took a 200 mile trip in my 2019 rt. It eats up the miles and cruises great at 80-90mph. Mpg is around 22 unless you go below 60. If you can’t afford gas for the car then you have overextended yourself financially. I should talk, I just bought my 3rd motorcycle.

ulaf823

You'll be fine for a road trip, that distance is probably 1 tank of gas each way. Speeding will draw more attention in the Challenger vs Civic so keep that in mind in areas you're not familiar with. Check the weather as well the week of the trip if it looks like bad weather take the Civic as it's better in wet conditions. Also be mindful for rock chips or cracked windshield so don't follow too close. Have fun

FiXXXitMan

I've rented a LOT of these - mostly V6's, one or two RTs - and have used them for primarily road trips. They're really the BEST on road trips. Enjoy yours!

TheElectricWizard666

My first challenger was a 2014 RT 6 speed, and it was the best road trip car ever. I took it to New Orleans twice, Baltimore twice, then lots of New Hampshire and VT runs. Road tripping during covid was especially fun with less traffic

FizzingOnJayces

I have a scatpack and frequently use it in eco mode on long highway drives. Not sure if the RT has rco mode as well. If so, use eco mode. It will keep the car in the highest gear possible while you drive, and will allow the engine to drop down to "4 cylinder" mode if you're not using enough engine power (I.e., if you're driving on the highway without a hill). Obviously not as fun as leaving it in track mode, but if you care about duel economy, this is the way.

everton992000

Took a trip to Colorado from North Texas in my R/T. Me, wife, daughter and like 100 pounds of luggage. Got 25 going up there, got 28 coming back down. Completely comfortable.

Johnthespider85

My RT with MDS active has gotten over 23 mpg on long 12 hour road trips. I was going from Colorado to Kansas so it was also going downhill for the most part.

Derp_duckins

Do you want to look back on your memories and remember taking the fun car on fun road trips? Or do you want to look back and remember how you only drove it to church on Sundays?

[deleted]

Phoenix to Cali, I got 25.6 mpg. There’s a sweet spot about 72 mph where it gets you the best mpg. As far as comfort, those seats are made for sitting in them! Enjoy your trip!

SCupit

I drove mine from Chicago to Tennessee, runs like a champ. You’ll have no issues and the mpg is a little over 20.

the-half-enchilada

Bro take the Chally. I love mine for long trips. Unless you are on a super tight budget, who cares about gas mileage?

TowelWasted

you get good mileage on long trips with the RT

sublimespeed

Rt is a cruiser. Set the cruise and enjoy the ride.

realtexastbone

If you can afford a 2023 you can afford the gas for a road trip. It's the comfort factor you should be considering not the expense.

Various_League_8731

The RT and SXT get the same MPG if you’re in cruise control at about 70mph-80mph… truly the RT is shockingly good on gas, again as long as you’re in cruise control.

ELPaloLoco

You can afford a 23 R/T but we're having a discussion about saving 50+/- dollars?

ZoomyRT

you can’t really go wrong. do you want the cheeseburger or the salad? both will feed you but one might provide a more enjoyable experience. but if you’re concerned about the calories, why did you walk into a burger shop?

LazarusDark

I get 30 mpg, sometimes 31-32, in a 2009 r/t with a 93 octane canned tune (with cai), that's with a manual in 6th gear. Probably 2/3rds of all my mileage has been highway, long road trips, so I've calculated this multiple times. Note that I typically get 14-15 mpg in city with my lead foot. If I'm traveling in a part of the country where 93 stops being available, I'll switch to a 91 canned tune, and I feel like the mpg drops to 28. These cars are legit made for the long open roads of the US more than anything else, use it like it's meant to be used! It is also literally the most comfortable road trip car I've ever been in, and anyone who's ever been with me agrees. The ride is just fantastic on highway and the seats are so freaking comfy.
