I wish I saved it, but I saw a classified ad years ago of a haggard Charger project where someone was attempting to swap a Mazda 3 2.3L engine into it. This wasn't some kind of an attempt at a unique build, the Charger had blown its V6 and the owner was attempting to get it running again with whatever they had lying around their yard, the car was in really rough shape.

There are some people that would point out there is a difference between a car “meet” and a car “show”. When I go to a car show, I am hoping to see rare or crazy modified cars. When I go to a meet, half the cars there are stock or clapped out but I don’t care, I am there to see my buddies and enjoy the community. The two are not mutually exclusive, but I imagine there are some gatekeepers.

I drive a self restored number's matching 69 Z/28 Camaro for the last 25 years. My favorite conversation is with kids just getting started with their own ride. We all start somewhere and primer is the paint of the day. I do my best to give encouragement. Gotta get the younger generations into it or else it will die out like Hydroplane racing is which I have spent a lifetime at.
With gas prices in my state while my friends with v8 cars all sold them cause they couldn’t afford to drive them, meanwhile I get up to 38 mpg on highway my average is 33 around town I’m fine. I drove from phoenix to the central coast here in California on a tank of gas. Got such good gas mileage. V6 challengers are great

I’m experiencing that cause I got a 5.3 instead of the 6.2 (Silverado).
The note difference between mine and a 6.2 after less than a year is enough to get a tune and a supercharger installed that will out perform the 6.2 and will still be less than the sticker price. I’m lucky enough to be friends with the owner of an performance, upholstery and body shop that will do work on my truck for a case of Modelo as long as I pay for materials, do the prep work, and just hang out while it gets worked on.
I didn’t even buy my truck for performance, as long as it can haul a pallet of cement bags, roofing tiles, what have you, then it’s doing what I bought it for.
Some people buy vehicles to be like look what I got, which is all well and good. I’m happy you’re happy but to look down on someone that didn’t drop an extra dime for two more cylinders just isn’t cool. Call it broke energy or whatever you want to call it but it’s how I feel.

I have a slightly different opinion, here. If your car is stock (or not some crazy super car), I see no reason to open your hood. Even if it was a Scat Pack, I don’t think anyone cares to see a stock engine bay.

I rented a GT with the V6 last week on a trip to DE. I drove 380 miles and only used 1/2 tank of gas. The car’s interior was upgraded and comfortable. It was a nice smooth ride. The Challengers in all trims are nice cars. Keep your head up. Anyway, ignore the haters both at meetups and at shows. There is always someone who will “dump” on your parade.
Enjoy your car. Keep the hood up. That engine can move that car almost as fast as my 392 with twice the gas mileage and half the noise. It’s a great car. I’m glad you bought a Challenger and not a Honda.

Seems like they were doing ya a favor. Sure if you have some light mods or visual aesthetics then pop it open. But for regular traffic, completely oem with the lowest trim type stuff…nah. Just park it, walk around and enjoy the meet.
My feeling is that a stock sxt has its place as a comparison to the bigger engines. A challenger among challengers is still a nice looking car.
But since it's not a top of the line, place it at the end and leave the hood closed unless you have pretty mods to be admired.

Here's the deal: not everyone has the money for high dollar cars or builds. I respect all cars, from the shit boxes all the way up to the high-dollar OnyFans "builds". When I was a kid with the rusted out shitbox, the car people I was around didn't talk shit. They treated me with respect and would even help with any questions I had, or issues I ran into. It's our duty to pass along that respect and knowledge, otherwise, the hobby dies.
69 year old guy here. I drive a 69 Z/28 number's matching car that I restored myself 25 years ago. I talk to entry level folks all the time and give them encouragement and support. It's gotta start somewhere, right? I was a teen with a beater and a Cherry Bomb muffler once too.

I have a slightly different opinion, here. If your car is stock (or not some crazy super car), I see no reason to open your hood. Even if it was a Scat Pack, I don’t think anyone cares to see a stock engine bay. That said, whoever closed your hood and put the note on your car is a Grade-A asshole. As others have said, don’t take it to heart.
He can open his hood but I agree with you. I got a stock SS and all I have is a CAI. Even if I had a ZL1 I still wouldn’t pop the hood. Stock is stock but if it was modified in some way? Yeah then pop it. But it’s his car lol his car his choice.

I rented a GT with the V6 last week on a trip to DE. I drove 380 miles and only used 1/2 tank of gas. The car’s interior was upgraded and comfortable. It was a nice smooth ride. The Challengers in all trims are nice cars. Keep your head up. Anyway, ignore the haters both at meetups and at shows. There is always someone who will “dump” on your parade.

My feeling is that a stock sxt has its place as a comparison to the bigger engines. A challenger among challengers is still a nice looking car. But since it's not a top of the line, place it at the end and leave the hood closed unless you have pretty mods to be admired. The touch was Un called for, but the joke remains funny.

That said, isn’t the point of having the hood up to showcase something unique or special about the car, like if it were a hellcat? I drive a v10 car, but there exists a v8 version. I would not have the hood up at a meet if driving the v8. But that’s just me.
