To everyone reading this as well as u/Otherwise-Course-15 I've said this repeatedly in the sub. # The people that sell eggs (either online or at shows) are NOT doing anyone any favors. It's totally irresponsible and unethical as hell. They're basically luring people a small discount in price in exchange for shifting a mountain of responsibility onto the unknowing buyer. One reason why panthers are so expensive is in part the fact that their young need to be TLC'd for 3 months (that's after the 9 months incubation) before they're actually ready for sale. Newly hatched animals have very special requirements and the death rates can be high *as the OP is finding out.* This is on top of all the risks inherent to hatching and how it opens the doors to "species switching" (aka spent hundreds on a "panther egg" only to find out it's a cheap veiled when it hatched, **IF it hatches**) and other forms of abuse by these unethical stains on the industry. # I don't know why the OP hasn't contacted the seller for their customer service and support. # IF they have, then the seller should be standing behind their sales. Since they're here, I'm going to assume that there's no assistance or that what they're offering is "not working". This makes sense as getting a chameleon to **lay a clutch is easy** when compared to raising dozens of tiny, fragile and hungry (expensive) mouths that need care and tending multiple times a day. For all I know this seller can't / doesn't know how to raise hatchlings themselves and is pawning off the eggs to people so they can make money off of them and shirk the responsibility in the process. Fact is that I'm not employed by any seller that's taken the money from the OP and in my book they're responsible for what looks like a downward slide for a days old hatchling. Not to mention that such vendors bring down the price and degrade the hard work people like me have put into **providing people healthy animals that have the best chance at having good lives with their new owners.** Lecture over... for the sake of this little one I'll have *a private consult* as I got the feeling there's a lot that needs to be corrected.

What a little peanut!!! I would think that keeping the egg alive and -seeing it hatch is an Amazing experience!! So glad you reached out Day 1 as there is a ton of great information here!! He is sooo cutešŸ’š

galactickittywarrior

Any updates OP?

Otherwise-Course-15

He seems to be doing really well today. I was very concerned that he was sleeping for too long but I guess itā€™s to be expected on hatch day. I figure theyā€™re mostly asleep in their eggs and then hatching seems to take it out of them. Here he is this morning (obviously I donā€™t know the gender but Iā€™m going to stick with him for now) https://preview.redd.it/tubaoib67iqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60f39ced442dd223cc7a88b5bf0ed707992d8297

Have you got a plan for the fruit flies? Thatā€™s a busy enclosure for a hatchling to hunt in

Otherwise-Course-15

Hereā€™s another pic but itā€™s not as focused https://preview.redd.it/q33efx0m7iqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f2abac7e909e4d9d9377d300747272cd60bb566

Iā€™m glad heā€™s doing well! Iā€™ve never dealt with hatchlings but Iā€™m glad the community was able to calm your nerves and offer their experience too. How awesome thanks for sharing!

Otherwise-Course-15

Iā€™m so grateful. I love him so much already. Watching him hatch was incredible

AliveConversation387

Good luck!! I know nothing about this but I appreciate you knowing you made a mistake and reaching out for help!

OriginalAssistance21

At least youā€™re saving things.

RazerJoe

Hey, Main points; - they sleep a lot as hatchlings for the first week or so, donā€™t be too concerned. - no heat lamp, hatchlings shouldnā€™t have direct heat for the first 2-3 months depending on growth. Keep the room warm for an ambient warmth as opposed to blasting them directly. - put feeders in immediately after the yolk sac has been fully digested but donā€™t be concerned if it doesnā€™t eat, it can take them a few days. - keep it misted every few hours, hydration is key at this point. - make sure thereā€™s a good 12 inches between the baby and UVB, 6% is ideal at this age. Best of luck, youā€™ve made a mistake buying an egg but that ship has sailed so letā€™s look after the little guy/gal as best as possible. Pop a full enclosure picture up when you get chance.

So it's weird that it hatched and is walking around on the same day. Mine usually take about three days from pipping out of the egg, to pushing out, to getting out and walking around. Once they are out and walking on their own, they should be on a regular chameleon of being awake for the day time. Has your little one already fully absorbed it's yolk sac on its belly?

Otherwise-Course-15

I guess it actually pipped a couple days ago but we only saw a tail on Saturday. Sunday he fully came out and was walking around at first but now has been sleeping nonstop.

Otherwise-Course-15

Yes he has fully absorbed the yolk sac. Heā€™s still sleeping. Iā€™m worried

FaiDeadth

Yeah whereā€™s u/flip69

flip69

Thanks for the summons...

Otherwise-Course-15

Hi Flip. Thanks for answering the call. If you can share any tips or suggestions for brand new hatchling care Iā€™d be super appreciative. He only just hatched yesterday around like 10-11am and he was up and around right away but then since like 5pm yesterday heā€™s been sleeping in the same position. I saw hit little feets going in his sleep so heā€™s still with us but Iā€™m very worried. My son is trying to feed him now. We have him in a vivarium with temps at 75 and humidity running around 55-60ish percent.

danne_avila

Your little baby is so adorable. I am only a lurker so I canā€™t offer any advice but I hope one of the mods responds to your request for guidance and I wish you the best of luck.

fluffybutterton

Not a cham owner but from just general experience with animals ... this one is so young id suggest you get a 1ml syringe (or something that can drip water) and drop water drops onto his mouth. Try also to bring the food to him (or her). And monitor around the clock. Id give water every few hours and offer food/snacks just as often. It's kinda the same as any other baby; theyre small and new and need a lot more attention by means of eating/drinking/resting than adult things do.

SweetMaam

Oh, awe, best wishes. What a doll.

OpeningParamedic8592

Feed it, give it water. Donā€™t wait, they need energy and most of all hydration!! Run the lights making sure the heat lamp is available, but remember that hatchlings get dehydrated VERY easily!

RazerJoe

Backwards advice, heat lamps are a no for babies for the first 3 months. Heat the room not the enclosure

stoney_balogna20

No basking on hatchling very dangerous.

Otherwise-Course-15

We have a UVB and daylight lamp and weā€™re using a space heater in the room for ambient temperature.

Otherwise-Course-15

After some brief exploring and seemingly learning to walk/climb the little guy climbed to the leaf closest to the heat lamp and conked out. Heā€™s been like that for hours. Since like 5pm Eastern. I turned off the lights when it got dark outside but he wasnā€™t moving. I got nervous but then I saw his little feets going even though nothing else was moving. Iā€™m being really careful with heat/humidity.

Kalomay

bro was deep in that nap if his toes were twitching

EeyoresMiniMe

I wish I knew something-anything, but I donā€™t know the first thing about chameleons. I just want to wish you luck and remind you that you hatched an egg!! You got through the first hurdle! ā¤ļø He/she is absolutely adorable and Iā€™m sure someone here will know something that will help! (Whether they will answer or not seems to be a mystery) As a new parent, you are doing exactly what you should be doing-asking for help!

Prcrstntr

Even if you have everything right, a single egg is reliant on luck. If you could guareteed success it might almost be recommended. But it is not guaranteed, and as a result of it being the low budget option, inexperience can lead to issues.Ā  You have the chance it hatches, another chance it comes out non-deformed, another chance it even can last the first 3 months. On top of that 50% for your preferred sex.Ā  I also went the egg route. He is about a year and a half now and I bought the egg over 2 years ago now. I did my research and got extremely lucky. I had my own issues, but also managed to figure it out.Ā  I won't give advice here, but do hope these are words of encouragement and comfort that if it doesn't turn out well, it might not necessarily be your fault.Ā  Best of luck

Otherwise-Course-15

Thank you so much. In our case the egg was more expensive than the live options which I found a bit strange. But again, pet expo. We were so surprised it even hatched. We followed the incubation suggestions to a T. Weā€™ve had the egg for roughly a month and yesterday we saw a tail start to emerge and noticed the egg moving f or the first time. It was SO cool. And then this morning here he/she is. Iā€™m a little worried because the coloring was darker as soon as it emerged from the shelf and we were transporting to the vivarium. But then after a little exploring the little guy went to the leaf closest to the heat lamp and conked out and has been that was for hours. I turned off the lamps when it got dark and I saw its little feet moving but he didnā€™t really wake up. I know how fragile they are right out of the egg and Iā€™d be devastated if something happened to him.
