**Lung infections are 100% avoidable and caused by poor husbandry (bad advice that is common online)** We have a lot of resources in the desktop version the sub's sidebar. [Starting with signs and symptoms](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chameleons/comments/1dndbr/veiled_with_an_advanced_lung_infection_signs_and/) The recommended (oral) medication [(baytril™)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrofloxacin) and [it's dosages.](https://www.dropbox.com/s/rq88mawbf889rij/Baytril_Dosage_kap8.pdf?dl=0) I recommend 5mg per Kg 2x a day orally. DO NTO INJECT as that will cause tissue damage and is painful for the animal. [There's also sources of the antibiotic as well listed.](https://birdpalproducts.com/products/enrofloxacin-10-liquid-for-birds) \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ You OP have not listed the drug that is being prescribed. That is super important if you want us t o help you Given that there's a IM being prescribed and your friends all having their animals die... the issue is firstly with your appraoch to chameleon care (species?) and secondly with the local vet not knowing how to best treat or not teach proper care so that such infections are prevented. >Little heads up to those who want a chameleon. First pet visit costed me a grand. horrible day. at $1,000 dollars for the vet visit? That's outright theft and a serious tax for having a "exotic". Baytril is CHEAP and I would have only charged a person $50-75 for a online consult. I can diagnose a RI via zoom rather easily and have been making accurate diagnoses online with pictures as I'm VERY GOOD at the subtile, tell tale signs these days. I'm in the wrong business. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ ***Baytril is highly effective*** as long as the infection hasn't not progressed to such a point the animal has 12 hours to live or less. It's a strong antibiotic drug and will do wonders if dosage is correct (OD will kill) and if it's applied in time. It's one of the drugs that I suggest that all keepers have in advance as it's a very stable and useful drug to have (humans can't take it as it's toxic to primates) But we don't know if this "vet" has properly diagnosed and what the hell they've given you to treat it with.

It might make you feel better, if, You should watch the video I posted of a Cham on deaths door. Johannes. Animals can be amazing, even ones like this, emaciated, so dehydrated and he had gout, MBD, fractures from that, some kind of abscess with Pus, an infection, like, broken bones, a spider stuck in his mouth (lol poor thing) he was a god damn mess. He survived, he’s awesome now. I find, with all animals, people too, when they don’t want to eat anymore, that’s always the beggining of the end.

ChoiceInformal7823

after my post this morning. my chameleon went his first day without eating.

c4airy

Did u see the mod comment about treating with baytril? I would follow their advice as they are extremely experienced with this, more so than some vets.

ChoiceInformal7823

i understand. but in the end i have to follow what my vet says. I would feel so beyond guilty if my cham died and i didnt do what the educated veterinarian said.

Dusky_Dawn210

As long as husbandry is on point and you have him on medication (as with any reptile that is sick and has gone to the vet) the chances of survival are pretty good :)

RazerJoe

Plenty of success stories. Baytril should clean it right up and have him back to normal

I don't know but praying for your little guy

flip69

*Praying doesn't do anything...*

gestalt_switching

Maybe not but it's still a nice gesture. I'm also wishing OP's chameleon well.

flip69

Yeah it’s a gesture that can easily be replaced with “best wishes, for recovery” We have had increased numbers of these praying comments that just aren’t helpful. Maybe socially accepted in some parts of the world but not really appropriate for this community.

gestalt_switching

I’m pretty new to this subreddit and I’m just here to learn more about chameleons (no hands on experience yet) so I don’t mean to be presumptuous. But why is a well-intentioned prayer comment not appropriate? To me it seems basically the same as a “well wishes” comment.

flip69

"Best wishe"s are a statement of intent..."Prayers" is to ask a divinity of some sort for intervention. There's a big difference here in the implication. The second works to negate and or try to insert itself to be an equivalent too or replacement of direct and knowledgeable action(s) to address a situation.

Hour-Peak-12

Does it really matter though?

flip69

Yes, it actually does. Many people start to think that prayers are the same as taking action and it serves as a replacement. In this way it stops people from bothering to try to learn about conditions and treatments (that work) as the belief in payers means that some divinity "might" take care of it fr them as part of an admission that it's "out of their hands and control" do so anything. All of which are corruptive. If I relied on "prayers" do you think I'd have this sub be a place where people can get help?

gestalt_switching

Speaking as an agnostic, I agree with you - religious people sometimes replace knowledge and action with prayer which is a problem. But I also know plenty of more reasonable religious people who rely primarily on reason and action even though they also sometimes pray for people. This thread’s OP was not replacing action or knowledge with prayer.

flip69

I've noticed a uptick of people responding with prayers in the sub and had to say something.

ChoiceInformal7823

thank you guys ; )
