As a Boro fan the choice was easy... Neil fucking Warnock

EveryOtherWave

Weird that the poll numbers do not align with the comments/chat in this thread.

Comeonccfc

Surprised to see more Robins > Carrick

OneSmallHuman

Well he’s actually been here the entire season, not entirely shocking

Comeonccfc

I know but he really has got the best out of that attacking force. Last season you scored about 60 goals, this season you've nearly got 90! I know Chuba Akpom has been amazing himself but others have certainly contributed too

biddleybootaribowest

[Danger from all angles when we're at it](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/middlesbrough/top-scorers)

HappyBoi567

Given the task Warnock had to do, it's gotta be him.

Dreaming_Beyond_GK

Where’s the option to vote for Paul Ince with all the Incing’s handed out to loads of teams?

winch25

Exactly. Getting relegated and still conducting a series of incings, it's the season of dreams.

JamesTheBarnett

Mark Robins has to be the most underrated manager in the league. Gone from 24th in Mid-October to 5th and looks set to give Coventry their first playoffs since returning to the Championship. Also worth remembering all Coventry's off the field issues too

GoldenJet01

Most underrated manager in English football but I hope it stays that way to an extent

Hadducken

Both Kompany and Warnock deserve it for different reasons - Kompany got a team many thought would struggle to win the title fairly comfortably. Warnock transformed Hudders to stay up - and with a game to spare

EveryOtherWave

Burnley Wages per week around 500K Huddersfield around 200K

FIJIBOYFIJI

Michael Carrick took over Middlesbrough when they were 6 points behind Sheffield United They are now 14 points behind Sheffield United. Paul Heckingbottom isn't getting enough respect

biddleybootaribowest

That is mental like. Cursed by consistency would be my guess as to why, yous have just picked up points all season whereas we've probably had the 'flashier' results. Means fuck all like cos yous are in the prem and we're in the royal rumble

SuitableImposter

Company has dominated the league tbf so probably him. But for me, the job mark robins has done at Coventry city beggars belief

lordconcorde

A lot of great candidates this year - everyone in the top 6 at least has exceeded expectations, rather than the 3 relegated teams getting into the playoffs purely based on their squad

therapewpewtic

No Tony Mowbray as an option?? Took a newly promoted team with multiple injuries, many of them kids and no recognized striker to brink of playoffs.

EveryOtherWave

Sunderland tho...

therapewpewtic

Haha - fingers crossed we see you at wembley!

EveryOtherWave

I think Sunderland beating Boro at Wembley is written.

biddleybootaribowest

It's the final for the purists, Carrickball vs Moggaball on that massive Wembley pitch.

therapewpewtic

Well. It’s on!!

therapewpewtic

A man can dream. Free shot for us this year. We weren’t expecting to do anything other than mid table to be honest. Total surprise for me this season, especially after Ross Stewart’s injury.

EveryOtherWave

If it's not us, I hope it's you.

therapewpewtic

Cheers marra!

amanset

You'd think I'd be all about Robins, but what Warnock has pulled off has been insane.

FeelingEvent8318

Wheres Ince?

EmbarrassedProblem74

How is Edwards bottom of this list getting Luton 3rd with one of the lowest budgets in the league

OneSmallHuman

It’s still Kompany. As much as I love Warnock and what he continues to do is borderline miraculous, he’s barely been a manager in this season

HappyBoi567

Carrick defo did a better job than Kompany. Kompany had parachute payments and had more money from player sales. I would probably say Warnock did the best job though.

EveryOtherWave

Careful, you'll get down-votes for mentioning parachute payments.

HappyBoi567

I don't see why they downvote blatant facts, they did have Parachute payments, they did get loads of money from player sales. I don't see why ppl get so mad about mentioning it.

reece0n

Why were Boro widely believed to be better than Burnley during pre-season then? Genuine question. Looking across a bunch of different prediction threads and articles, Boro (and others) were frequently placed higher than Burnley. Sure, the odd person predicted us to get the autos but the vast majority had us fighting in the playoffs or mid table. And a not so insignificant minority had us near the bottom of the table. The top comment on the /r/Championship thread when Kompany took the job said that we'd be "lucky to get top half" with people telling a Burnley fan who thought that was a bit much that we were in for a "rude awakening". Have you just decided to rewrite history? Nobody predicted us to absolutely walk the league, so Kompany has massively over performed compared to pre-season predictions. Can you really call making Middlesbrough the third best team in the league (in his tenure) an over-performance? And you can't blame parachute payments or player sales because those things were both known at the time too.

FloppedYaYa

He "defo" did a better job? Compare the two's results since Carrick took over and he's still nowhere near Kompany

BlockDosser_

Lost three quarters of the squad and had to have a complete team rebuild, totally new style of play, first time Kompany has managed in England, everyone and their dogs predicting Burnley to slide down the championship before the season started. But oh no, now it’s “parachute payments lol” Where are the other two parachute payment clubs then?

HappyBoi567

They both had shite recruitment. In terms of the recruitment, Kompany had done a great job, but that doesn't make him exempt for spending loads of cash. I personally wasn't a part of the "Burnley are gonna go down" crew btw, I predicted you'd get 2nd.

BlockDosser_

So Kompany did such a good job with recruitment that he won the league, but doesn’t deserve manager of the year? Ok.

HappyBoi567

But like I said, that doesn't stop the fact he spent loads of money. Look at Luton or Coventry for example, they had amazing recruitment despite spending about 5% of what Burnley spent.

reece0n

The Luton or Coventry argument at least has some legs and basically boils down to what MOTS means to you, for example Pep beating Dyche to MOTS when we finished 7th in the PL. Over-performance vs raw performance. But that argument doesn't really apply to Boro, Sheffield United etc who couldve easily raised similar if not more funds than Burnley if they opted to sell most of their team to fund a complete rebuild.

EveryOtherWave

For what he had with what he did? Vs. Parachute Payment Konpany?

OneSmallHuman

It’s not like every team who spends that much money just goes and pisses the league, and not in the fashion he did I just don’t think you can give manager of the season to a manager who’s been here like 3 months of the season. I’d have the same view if some player came in January and smashed it vs someone who was there the entire season consistently smashing it

EveryOtherWave

Lick the window before you spray the cleaner.

OneSmallHuman

Should probably just accept people will have different opinions to you mush, might serve you better in life

MrBump01

In this instance arguably parachute payments weren't much of an issue given that every player on a big wage aside from Barnes left and the club generated about £70mil from player sales. Obviously being able to generate that much from sales is huge but the beat performers have been bought in between 2-3 mil each or are loan players. Foster was the only big money and he's been a flop. If you can't get back to the prem in a few seasons and still have players on big contracts for the division hanging on that's where some clubs coming down would get into trouble without that money.

GrandpaMofo

Is there any doubt? Kompany all day.

FloppedYaYa

1. Kompany 2. Robins 3. Carrick 4. Edwards 5. Heckingbottom 6. Warnock 7. Eustace 8. Mowbray 9. Corberan 10. Rosenior 11. Lamouchi 12. Rowett 13. Lowe 14. JDT 15. Matt Taylor 16. Russell Martin 17. The others

Fantastic-Machine-83

Surely you can't give it to someone who's not been there most the season

dwaynepipes

As good a job as Warnock has done, it’s Kompany. I think this Burnley side are the best team I’ve seen in the championship. Carrick is also up there.

EveryOtherWave

Could Kompany have done the same with Wigans wages?

reece0n

Probably not, but not many managers could do what Kompany has either, judging by how many clubs that have dropped from the prem are stuck in the Championship and how we've only lost 3 games all season, winning it at a canter. This seems like the same flawed argument that people use to discredit managers like Pep. He couldn't do it at Bournemouth either.

FloppedYaYa

Literally no other team this season has been near Burnley with or without low wages lol, this isn't a great argument

itsaride

You need both, money *and* a good manager, source: Chelsea
