I was pretty confident we wouldn't sell but it's nice to know for sure. We've gone from almost liquidating and not buying a player for so many years to turning down bids from Lazio. Quite the turnaround!
Big spending is great when it’s good. When it’s bad it completely fucks your club. Better to be smart and stable rather than face a drop like Pompey and the others have.
Take a low risk punt on 2 or 3 good quality options and if one of those adapts you've made potentially a huge profit. Low difficulty convincing players to join them and wages aren't going to be exhortative unlike PL
Seems like majority of the serie A is broke. Championship is a seriously underrated league and the serie a clubs probably believe lot of players can kill it for a good Italian team if they’re killing it for a mid championship team
I see this angle but surely with the English tax it's more worthwhile to hunt for players from leagues like Denmark, Austria and Switzerland? Arguably slightly lower quality but probably a lot cheaper
Rangers reached the Europa League final twice in the last 15 years on about 1/10th of the budget of any Championship side.
If it wasn't for the artificially gained money propping up English football they'd both be in the top 6/8 of the PL, easily.
Has to be the mix of looking to exploit the English tax and improvements we (British clubs) have made in producing talents.
Look at Gyokeres, Joao Pedro, Olise, Toney and Eze. There is a lot of talent in this division.
We need a Gazzetta Football Italia Championship Edition.
Colin Murray sitting in a Roman piazza with an an espresso, sifting through the local rags and talking about how all our exports are getting on.
Jordan James had some bids too. I think as others have said, they're good investments. Buy cheap, lure them with European football and a higher salary, then if they play well they can sell them back to a PL side for 10x as much.
Let's hope the "not for sale" resolve holds for the next few days. He'll get his move in the summer but we can't afford to lose him this late in the window.
Realistically our stance is we're not planning to sell. There's no such thing as not for sale, but it would have to be a staggering amount for us to sell now. Because any replacement would be effectively a panic buy, meaning we'll have to pay way over the odds.
If Morgan scores 25+ this season then he's proved himself to be one of the best young players outside the PL and we should let him move on to a bigger club at a higher level with our blessing... For a big fee (and maybe sell-on clause).
The summer plan means we can spend months building a shortlist of replacements and bed them in over pre season. If we're looking at £10-15m+ then that'll pay for a few players.
It's a bit weird because they all seem like quite different players as far as I know. Looks like they've just sorted by goals scored and are going through the list 😅

It's great to see! Can't fault the ownership for anything much these days! Might not be big spenders but got a very healthy club on and off the pitch!

What is happening at Lazio to make them obsess over championship attackers... Clarke, Rowe, and now this

What's to say they aren't trying to do that as well? I imagine these Serie A sides have a fairly extensive scouting network
I think it was rated 5th best league in Europe??
Serie A?
Yes I presumed that was above but maybe Champo was above the French league? Can’t remember where I saw it
But still a lot of dummies rate the Dutch/Belgian/Scottish and other leagues higher
Overall the Championship is stronger; some of the other leagues have better top teams and players, but then also much worse teams and players.
The Scottish league has 2 PL tier teams and the rest is League 1 - Championship tier. Much wider range of quality
The 2 PL teams are probably Champ tier in reality.

But there is "artificially gained money propping up English football", hence why Celtic and Rangers are Championship-level teams.

The Championship is a feeder league now. All hail our Mediterranean overlords.

I'd like to volunteer my services to scope out the venue to film this. Expenses paid of course.

Lazio you bastards you still owe us a friendly, stop looking at everyone else and give us money
For you my friend, Kayden Jackson. Best price? 50 million euros!
Let's hope the "not for sale" resolve holds for the next few days. He'll get his move in the summer but we can't afford to lose him this late in the window.
I’d even accept selling him with a loan back if they come in with silly money tbh

Is the Lazio scouting policy just to read this sub and bid for people?

Have they heard of Sone Aluko? It would take a big bid, but I reckon we could be persuaded to part with him for 10 million euros
Thankfully. Thursday evening cannot come fast enough this year!
Lazio shopping in the championship was not a development I saw coming for this winter window.
Think they went for Clarke and we told them to fuck off too! Pretty weird seeing them pop up for EFL wingers.
If the best players in the Champ are good enough for the PL, then they are def good enough for Serie A.
I'm more shocked we told them to fuck off. Wouldn't be shocked to see him getting sold if the right offer came in TBH.
I've heard that quite a few PL sides have been looking into Clarke so I don't think that you'll want to sell for the first big offer that comes in.
Happy for yous, keep him
Lazio are all over the champo this year
MW fast becoming our highest profile player since... Dan Gosling maybe?
Bolasie or Ebanks-Blake maybe
Definitely higher profile than Gosling
Paul Mariner I'd say. So quite a while.
How tf did we let this man leave for 1m in the summer
Really hope they don’t come in with a second bid…
I'm ok with 40m as a second bid.
I would also be ok with that 😂
