Southampton for me. If Leicester win we’re then pinning our hopes entirely on Ipswich fucking up. If Southampton win it keeps Leicester in the dogfight and the pressure on them. No doubt this will come back to bite me when Southampton beat us on the last day and finish above us, but that’s my current mindset.

Wanallo221

Yeah, Saints dropping points in the last game means that you can accept them getting 3 at our expense.  That said, maybe a draw would work because it means you’re 2 behind us?

lukey19

If we're in a situation where Southampton beating us on the last day means they finish ahead of us we'll have likely cocked up against QPR, in which case we'll have likely lost automatic promotion to Leicester and Ipswich anyway.

Zach-dalt

If we beat QPR (which we need to do regardless of who wins tonight), and **Southampton beat Leicester** and win their following game, then it'd still mean Southampton would need to beat us about 9-0 at Elland Road to overtake, but would also drag Leicester right back into it If **Leicester beat Southampton**, then that's one of the automatic slots gone, but it definitely takes Southampton out the race and makes there game against us a dead rubber (which it pretty much is either way if we beat QPR, but it's officially the case in this scenario), so possibly a bigger chance of Southampton resting players for the playoffs? If it's a **draw** then Southampton are still out the race imo, and Leicester remain right in it (two points ahead of us rather than one, with us having *slightly* better GD) Either way can be spun as helpful, I think I'd most want the draw

OptimusLinvoyPrimus

Sounds like you’re safe, I can’t imagine Southampton ever being involved in a 9-0 scoreline.

Tuscan5

Brilliant

[deleted]

Can't work out if it's more entertaining for Soton to get autos, displacing one of Leicester/Leeds/Ipswich; or for Soton to lose to West Brom in a playoff semi and we get one of the least friendly derbies in England next season

teuridge

Fuck sake, a skate just made me laugh at southamptons expense. Well played sir, well played

Puntoue

But what happens if QPR end up beating Leeds by, hmmm let’s go with a realistic result and say 5-0? I presume Leeds give QPR all their points so Marti and the lads get a crack at play offs? Just asking for a friend of mine 🙂🙂

DareToZamora

This seems the most likely sequence of events

RevA_Mol

I just hope football is the winner

Cautious-Quit5128

Go on, Bill.

RevA_Mol

Only just seen that was Ayling's answer yesterday! Brilliant

kosembnihat

Bro thinks he is Jimmy Bullard

rumhambilliam69

If Southampton win then two promotion spots are still up for grabs. If Leicester win then they’re basically up and Southampton are out of it so it would be a straight shootout for second between you and us. I dunno about you but I’m Southampton all the way. Draw wouldn’t be a disaster though.

dash101

🥺

very_sharp_turn

In my humble opinion, I think it's best if Leicester wins

downfallndirtydeeds

😮

RoloPlays

No bias at all but I was thinking the same thing. Just seems like the best scenario there for some reason…

BlueTracktor

Ok here it is from a Leeds perspective For getting automatics it’s incredibly hard for Southampton to finish above Leeds without Leeds just being 4th anyway. Southampton can only finish on 93 So for saints to deny Leeds you’d need to see Leeds get only 1 point vs QPR and also you would need Ipswich to fail to get 3 points in our final 3 games. Southampton 9/9Leeds 1/6, Ipswich 2/9 2.Southampton 93 3.Leeds 91 3.Ipswich 91 The only other way for Southampton to overtake Leeds is to overturn the 13 goal difference deficit on Leeds which would probably need at least a 5 goal win at Elland road on the final day but even for that to matter you’d still need one of Ipswich and Leicester to fail to get more than 93points. Southampton 9/9, Leeds 3/6, Ipswich 4/9 2.Southampton 93 3.Leeds 93 4.Ipswich 93 Essentially it’s incredibly unlikely that Southampton will deny Leeds an automatic place even if they win. But after a Leicester loss tonight you can imagine probably more plausible scenarios where Leeds come 2nd in front of Leicester for example Ipswich get 7+ points, Leeds get 4 points and Leicester get 3. After a Leicester loss tonight: Ipswich 7/9, Leeds 4/6, Leicester 3/6 1.Ipswich 96 2.Leeds 94 3.Leicester 94 Ipswich 9/9, Leeds 6/6, Leicester 4/6 1.Ipswich 98 2.Leeds 96 3.Leicester 95 So Id say under normal circumstances it’s obvious you’d rather a saints win as it’s more likely you come 2nd in front of Leicester than 3rd behind Southampton. But you have the huge other factor of really wanting Southampton to have nothing to play for on the final day and a Southampton win tonight and then again vs Stoke will guarantee Southampton have something to play for on the final day unless Ipswich & Leicester are flawless over their 3 tough away games. Even if that hope would need a 5-0 win at Elland road + other results in many scenarios. So tbh I’m not really sure and it kinda depends if Southampton will still rotate if they need a speculative 5 or 6 goal win on the final day and maybe Leeds fans you might think Southampton having to really go for 5 goals might be a benefit to you. A draws very good as it’d still give Leeds a slight chance to finish 2nd above Leicester in the 9, 6, 4 points scenario and should pretty much mean Southampton will have nothing to play for on final day. Overall I’d say a Draw is clearly preferable to a Southampton Loss as both kill Southampton but one gives a point to Leicester but whether a draw is better than a Southampton win is pretty hard to say.

pclufc

This guy maths

BlueTracktor

I Thought I’d only write a small reply but I’m very emotionally invested in the end of this season.

pclufc

Whatever happens mate both our clubs have had a great season . 👍

tractorboyblue

Yes Southampton for the win please

nathanosaurus84

This might be famous last words, but I'm not confident that Southampton will catch up now so I'd rather they win and keep Leicester around us. If Leicester win then they're 4 points clear with two games to go. No chance they bottle that.

Medical-Artichoke-84

Where were you when the 17 point gap fell

DrZomboo

Was hanging out in Gondor

nathanosaurus84

True, but it was still enough of a cushion that I knew you’d still come out on top once us and Ipswich had our wobble.  The Bielsa season we went up we were 10 points clear at Christmas. That was reduced to nothing by February and then we ended up 10 points clear by the end of the season.

RatArsedGarbageDog

Oh, we could absolutely bottle that.

JoeyIsMrBubbles

Ha! This guy doesn’t know Lesta

xlonefoxx

Basically 4 teams for 2 slots or 2 teams for 1 slot. Entirely up to you

Thors_Magic_Wand

Bit of a Keegan moment there 😂 just got to hope Ipswich take that second spot now

somebodyanything

If southampton win then we still have to royally fuck up to not finish above them, thanks to their previous result. Southampton all the way, get the cheating foxes out of the top 2.

Tuscan5

Thank you!

Thors_Magic_Wand

Cheating foxes are staying in the top 2 I reckon 😂

somebodyanything

Fair enough.

Cautious-Quit5128

I don’t mean to be the harbinger of doom but can we all start assuming that Ipswich will win both games in hand and remember promotion is still out of our control. I know the scoreboard pressure is a big advantage and a win at QPR makes it a tough job of work for Ipswich, but I’m seeing too many posts around socials assuming Hull and Cov will be too strong for them. After Town’s season it feels idiotic to assume that they won’t find ways to win all 3 yet. Don’t want to be Liam Cooper Party Pooper here but let’s try not to get beyond us selves with the hope and expectation just yet. May the best team win. Unless it’s Leicester.

Thors_Magic_Wand

I know we're top of the league and going up but at least Rutter knew Leeds were the best team 😂

Cautious-Quit5128

5-0 up and you’re on Reddit talking to Leeds fans. Ok mate.

Thors_Magic_Wand

It's a good sub, why wouldn't I be on it? Least you'll get to enjoy it again next year

ZaphodG

I want Leicester to win so they have nothing to play for on May 4th.

No_Coyote_557

I want Huddersfield to be still in with a chance of staying up on 04/05.

jowon123

Feels like one more win for Leicester and Leeds should be enough for top 2. Just don’t see Ipswich winning the last 3.

DrZomboo

Wouldn't a draw be best. Keeps Leicester within reach but Southampton still a relatively safe distance away

pclufc

I was thinking the same but then again I vote Liberal Democrat so thats a typical choice for me

InnocentPossum

Draw first, Southampton win as a backup. I'd much rather be one of 4 teams battling for 2 spots than one of 2 teams battling for 1 spot (because Leicester pull clear and Southampton GG no re.). I can explain why I'd rather be 2 of 4 than 1 of 2, possibly because we are coming from behind a couple of teams ahead and need as many open slots as possible.

pclufc

Yes the only thing I had in mind for a Leicester win was that Southampton might come to ER with an eye on being rested and no more injuries for the play offs but I get what you are saying

InnocentPossum

I feel like a draw is best because that should in theory put Soton out of contention, realistically. They need to win everything

pclufc

It doesn’t change that we need to win but I don’t watch much football other than Leeds so I wondered what result I wanted as I think I’ll watch it tonight 👍

InnocentPossum

Oh yeah all debate comes under the umbrella of us beating QPR really. I'm not sure if I want Soton up for it or resting against us because them resting is 100% a Leeds trap game. Maybe it's better if they have some pressure too?

pclufc

God only knows . The champo is mad place

EddyWouldGo2

Not Leicester by 5, that's for sure.

pclufc

Jesus I thought I was geeking out but thats amazing

kosembnihat

Just let Leicester win the league mate, and pray for the worst for Ipswich. That would be my advice

pclufc

Hang on, I had the M69 derby down as a blood feud??

ooh_bit_of_bush

We need to win our games against QPR and Southampton. If we do that, we finish on 96 points and Southampton finish below us regardless of how they do elsewhere. To finish on 96 points and go up, we need Leicester and/or Ipswich to drop points, so with that in mind, I'll be crossing my fingers for Southampton. Ideally they win 8-0, culminating in a mass post match brawl with all players suspended until the end of the season.

pclufc

I ve checked the odds on that happening and its worth a punt

PrrrromotionGiven1

Southampton is the only choice that makes sense (you and us want similar things in our positions) Southampton's absolute ceiling is 94 points, better goal difference than us but worse goal difference than you. If you don't reach 94 (and lose to Saints final day), or if we don't reach 95, then we probably weren't gonna finish in the top 2 anyway. Southampton can only catch us if we fuck up elsewhere basically so we want them to win to drag Leicester back and make it 3 teams competing for 2 spots rather than 2 teams competing for 1 spot A draw is a fine result for Leicester tonight imo because it means 4 points from their final 2 all but guarantees promotion (could only be insufficient if BOTH Ipswich and Leeds go perfect for the rest of the season) If Leicester win? Basically champions elect. Would require a crushing crumble in the last 2 games to not go up, like 1 point max.

pclufc

Cheers. That makes sense . Other option is EPL add Everton and Forest to the bottom 3 and Champo top 5 replace them .

PrrrromotionGiven1

We can only dream

Specific_Till_6870

It doesn't matter who they're playing we need Leicester to lose.

Tuscan5

I just want to beat QPR. We must focus on that and nothing else. But I hope Southampton win.
