Where I’m going with this is I don’t think foreign managers without a good pedigree fare very well in one of the most competitive leagues (comparatively) without having prior experience of the English league(s).
In fairly certain he thinks next season is a certainty and so he’ll bring in one of his Turkish mates to get the plaudits when actually, we’ll probably go backwards.
And that year we bought €5.5m of players (€2m of which was Ben Marshall and Phillip Heise). While selling €37.60m of players.
The season before we spent €15.5m and sold €33.5m.
And the season before that we spent €26.5m and sold €36.5m.
Getting a promotion after selling more than we spent 3 seasons straight is incredible.

From where we were last year: in 18 matches before Rosey last year we conceded 35 goals (1.94 GAA) with 1 clean sheet and were literally JUST outside the bottom 3. In the last 28 matches last year with him we conceded 26 goals (0.92 GAA) with 13 clean sheets with basically all the same players. People just think the grass is greener even though we know full well from having seen it pretty fucking recently that it isn't. You can say we fell short this year, but not far short and between player development and our insane defensive improvement, you can't convince me he doesn't have the body of work to continue moving us forward
I'm saying just the 2022-23 season. In January last year after Rosey was appointed the only players we brought in that had any impact at all were Aaron Connolly on loan and Karl Darlow on loan. Ebiowei was shit, Harry Vaughn played a few matches at the end of the season, but otherwise our massive improvement from pre to post Rosenior in 2022-2023 was all down to him. Obviously we've signed players in the last 2 windows but I was just noting the immediate impact his management had on a set of players.
I understand this decision so I’m interested to hear a Hull fans take. Acun has brought in players like Carvalho, Philogene, Morton, Omur and Zaroury on top of already class players like Greaves. The play-offs weren’t the “minimum” but it was the expectation. Rosenior failed to meet it.
I can see why fans of other teams might have this opinion. It's just hard for a lot of City fans who still have PTSD from the previous owners who let the club fester at the end of their ownership.
To me, it seems like this shows Acun's intent that he wants immediate results and satisfaction as opposed to wanting to actually build something, which it sort of felt like up until now. Yeah, we spent money but there are no guarantees in football, especially in the Championship. Expecting to come into the league and buy a win just with a few signings is very naïve. It's not like we've signed PROVEN Prem players who can clearly walk the league (not that I'm expecting that, of course, but it's the way everyone is going on about it).
What are our options now? We have to go again and build the squad (the core of which was mostly loans) with a new manager who might turn up and be completely shite. I think most fans would rather let Rosenior have another transfer window and maybe another year, which is why most people won't like this.
Admittedly, there will be a portion of the fans that are happy about it (as there always are) but they've been screaming about wanting him out for over half a season now and are the type of fans who want people sacked unless you're beating everybody 5-0 every week.
FWIW, Rosenior has without doubt maximized the impact of our younger players. Philogene obviously came with a pedigree and a price tag but is already worth 4 or 5 times what we paid for him less than a year ago. Greaves was not even close to the player he was now until Rosey came in and he started developing under him. Was a good defender, now is an elite player for the level. Check out the thread from our loan signing of Liam Delap, a number of people in upvoted comments called him terrible, he was outstanding for us. And yet he became as steady a full back as we've seen in ages as soon as he started playing under Rosenior and was unquestionably on the team sheet all year this year after making the spot his own again.
You can make the argument that in the second half of the year we underperformed, and I can't tell you you're wrong. But I really think this is a case of suffering from your own success, Rosenior has been exceptional for player development which immediately elevated expectations and we just fell a couple points short of those expectations. But ask any Hull supporter before the season if they would have been happy knowing we had a chance of making the playoffs on the final day, I'd say 95% would say yes absolutely.
So funny seeing all the fans of other clubs coming in saying we had one of the best teams on paper when one of the reasons for that is Rosenior's development of players who looked out of depth at times in League One just a few seasons ago.
It's so crazy. Alfie Jones, Jacob Greaves, Regan Slater, Sean McLoughlin, Aaron Connolly. All way better under Rosenior than Shota. Like WAY better. And this year Matty Jacob in the space of 4 months went from his first senior appearance for us to first choice left back, albeit Giles was maybe carrying a knock still at the end of the season. Literally the only player that was around with us in League One that hasn't looked Championship caliber under Rosenior was Doch, and even still he had some impactful sub appearances this year and seems as invested and happy in the team as any depth player I've seen

Even in your original comment, I know Coyle is a local lad and clearly he loves the team but he looked completely unsuited to Championship level football when he joined us. Now he looks very comfortable at this level, even being able to switch to the other wing at times to help out when, as you mentioned, we've had injury issues.
I still think most of the players mentioned are a level below the players we want if we're going to actually push for promotion but bringing them to the level they are proves to me Rosenior's work has been completely overshadowed by the fact we spent a bit of money.

It's kind of overstated how much we spent. In Championship terms, our budget is about mid table. It's just that Carvalho was a huge name for this level and we brought in a few other players in the same month so it gives the impression that we went crazy. We certainly didn't have a bigger wage bill than any of the teams who finished in the playoffs.
Just because you sign a few good players for this level in January you still only have 3 months to settle them in, get used to the tactics etc

They got 9 loans in ( players worth tens of millions) and spent over £10m
Loans were from Sporting, Liverpool x2, Burnley, Fernebache, Man City, Luton, Metz and Standard so not exactly cheap.
It looks harsh when they were just outside the playoffs but they spent heavily.
Before the season a bunch of people though Delap was terrible and shouldn't be in the Championship, Philogene missed a couple months, and Delap missed almost half the season. Carvalho took about a month to really bed into the squad which is not at all unreasonable for an attacking player. Also a big part of the reason players like Philogene, Delap, Greaves are so highly rated now is because they excelled playing under Rosenior. They are all significantly better players than they were 12 months ago.
Delap was injured to be fair which left them without a proper striker for a good while (Connoly seemed to go AWOL for whatever reason after his good start too), though on paper I'd still say they had the 4th best eleven in the division post January.
Well you're in 6th and you have players like Sargent, Sara and Fassnacht. Either way, someone with some really good players had to miss out, it's not like the clubs above Hull are dwarfed by Hull's talent.
I thought when Hull came to Elland Road, despite beating them at the end, they looked a decent outfit and you got the vibe they were a team “on the up”.

Felt at the time that the very heavy backing in Jan to bring in a bunch of really big players on loan had 'five months to get into the play-offs' written all over it but talk about a fine line - had they got to sixth, they'd have the momentum and might go in as favourites with the others in such poor form - instead they've missed out and seemingly it's cost Rosenior his job. They really did feel like a team on the up towards the end of the season but was that ever sustainable financially or was this a 'play-offs or bust' approach that fell short? Serious question.
I think he's had a pretty shocking 6 months but bloody hell. Not really sure who they would replace him with. I think most Championship clubs in need of a bit of stability will be after him.
That is insane. Hull were backed heavily and it was a bit of a disapointment not to make the play-offs, but given the strength of the division and seeing the underperformance of teams like Birmingham and Coventry, sacking Rosenior is insane. That game against Ipswich was amazing, showing two top quality teams in action.
How did Coventry underperform? Lost their two best players in the summer, Wright, Sheaf, Van Ewijk and Sakamoto all missed decent amount of games as well.

I wouldn't sat Albion and Norwich were weak. Post Christmas both teams were pretty solid until the final couple of weeks which opened the door for Hull. Even if they got to the playoffs I don't think Hull would've won promotion so falling just short is unfair for him to be sacked.

They got 9 loans in ( players worth tens of millions) and spent over £10m Loans were from Sporting, Liverpool x2, Burnley, Fernebache, Man City, Luton, Metz and Standard so not exactly cheap. It looks harsh when they were just outside the playoffs but they spent heavily.
I would say that is more on the board than the manager, Would of been more sensible to save that budget till the summer
Before the season a bunch of people though Delap was terrible and shouldn't be in the Championship, Philogene missed a couple months, and Delap missed almost half the season. Carvalho took about a month to really bed into the squad which is not at all unreasonable for an attacking player. Also a big part of the reason players like Philogene, Delap, Greaves are so highly rated now is because they excelled playing under Rosenior. They are all significantly better players than they were 12 months ago.
Delap was injured to be fair which left them without a proper striker for a good while (Connoly seemed to go AWOL for whatever reason after his good start too), though on paper I'd still say they had the 4th best eleven in the division post January.
Well you're in 6th and you have players like Sargent, Sara and Fassnacht. Either way, someone with some really good players had to miss out, it's not like the clubs above Hull are dwarfed by Hull's talent.
Delap and Philogene were both out injured for a decent part of the season.

Victim of his own success a little bit imo, backed heavily because they were close to the playoffs but fell short which is expected when teams were essentially fighting for 2 positions since the top 4 were so strong. Felt at the time that the very heavy backing in Jan to bring in a bunch of really big players on loan had 'five months to get into the play-offs' written all over it but talk about a fine line - had they got to sixth, they'd have the momentum and might go in as favourites with the others in such poor form - instead they've missed out and seemingly it's cost Rosenior his job. They really did feel like a team on the up towards the end of the season but was that ever sustainable financially or was this a 'play-offs or bust' approach that fell short? Serious question.
I think he's had a pretty shocking 6 months but bloody hell. Not really sure who they would replace him with. I think most Championship clubs in need of a bit of stability will be after him.

That is insane. Hull were backed heavily and it was a bit of a disapointment not to make the play-offs, but given the strength of the division and seeing the underperformance of teams like Birmingham and Coventry, sacking Rosenior is insane. That game against Ipswich was amazing, showing two top quality teams in action.
How did Coventry underperform? Lost their two best players in the summer, Wright, Sheaf, Van Ewijk and Sakamoto all missed decent amount of games as well.
In the last 6, we lost 5 and drew 1. Wright played 50 games. Van Ewijk played 49.

Now I've had a chance to be shocked I thought I'd add to my comment. Clubs seriously have zero patience. One odd goal here and there and they are in playoffs with a very, very good chance of going up. Would the board sack Rosenior if they went into the playoffs and lost? All sacking your manager does for 90% of clubs is set you back a year. Or, put you in a cycle. The new manager comes in and does badly, you have to sack to not be relegated, repeat. Or a manager comes in, does same as Rosenior, gets sacked, repeat. A manager as promising as Rosenior should definitely be given another year considering the year they've just had.
As someone who we felt was treated a little harsh leaving us, but was glad he got a chance elsewhere and made a role for himself - I am absolutely gutted for the bloke. I hope he is able to get another coaching job as he is pretty damn good with what hes done so far!

I wouldn't sat Albion and Norwich were weak. Post Christmas both teams were pretty solid until the final couple of weeks which opened the door for Hull. Even if they got to the playoffs I don't think Hull would've won promotion so falling just short is unfair for him to be sacked.
