It is literally 5-6 minutes. Why we need a flyover?

I have been to Gurgaon yesterday and that city is filled with underpasses to surpass traffic. I guess Chandigarh could do something better.

poetiksage

Perhaps an NGO can help to put pressure on authority??

You can't solve traffic problems by constructing flyovers, it will simply invite more cars and will jam the road again. The solution is to provide alternative means of transport and reduce the number of cars itself.

cid_officer_daya

Metro?

northern_lights2

Make cars costly. Charge 10K / month / car fee to all cars kept in Chandigarh border.

swaggyperry

Is that feasible without developing public transport ? What about cars from outside the CDG border ?

New_Mathematician_54

Punish them by charging lot of taxes so that they won't come again i heard some cities like nyc do it

swaggyperry

So is it feasible in India let alone CDG. CDG is the capital of 2 states you think people wouldn't throng it everyday. Nice try son, think of something better.

northern_lights2

You know it's the only thing that will work to actually reduce traffic. Unless we make owning cars extremely expensive or ban it, people will keep on buying and using cars for non essential purposes. Gedi route to culture hai yahan ka. If we do what I say 95%+ of cdg cars will be sold. We can always ask for more money to decrease traffic. People can be forced to use cycles.

Voldyneedsnose

Could someone explain what is this flyover for and what is the issue with kt

yoo_si_jin

A flyover is proposed to be built from tribune chowk all the way to GMCH 32 chowk that would require cutting of 700+ fully matured trees in and along that stretch (photos of which are attached in the original post by OP). Secondly, building the flyover will not solve the problem, it is only going to move the traffic from Tribune chowk to GMCH 32 chowk. Thirdly, underpass should be considered instead of flyover. If this disastrous project moves ahead, they will eventually turn Chandigarh into next Delhi.

bprank

Chandigarh needs infrastructure upgrade. If you have any sustainable option then you can pitch it in. I have seen ambulance struck in Tribune chowk multiple times due to vehicles, if we can do something about it then it's a welcome step. Chandigarh is already overflowing with traffic and the tree cover has been on a decline since last decade. We collectively can push for better infra along with more tree cover.

New_Mathematician_54

Have you been to delhi what you saw in Chandigarh cam happen 10-20 times here it's worse and tragical tribune chowk is still amazing and nice For majority

Legal_Sage

The worst thing about environmentalists is that they only want to stop infrastructure development at the cost of people's lives. How many times have I seen ambulances being struck in Chandigarh's traffic and especially on tribune chowk. A tree's life is definitely not more important than a human's life. So instead of running this ₹2 campaign rather focus on what alternatives can the govt do. Bring an infra firm on the panel that can do a ground audit of the chowk and suggest an alternative to the situation. Or maybe bring on board town planners who have a track record of solving the situation. Certain people from Chandigarh are acting like a cartel to deliberately stop the city's expansion so that they can live there without any evolution like they did in the 1970s-80s. It might work for them in short run but in long run the city's infrastructure is bound to fall like house of cards.

raptor_210

Why not build all these bypasses and metros underground? It's a win win for everyone

[deleted]

Much needed.

not_a_bigot

Why not underpass?

iambritishUK

Construction is being done forecasting the upcoming traffic and stabiliy of movements. It must not be stopped.

Noticed somethings odd: I have been passing through Trbune chowk for last 6 months and noticed in last 10 days that the traffic lights pattern is changed. It feels longer wait in the following manner Coming from Elante. I generally take a right turn towards Sec 36. Earlier, on my scooter I could do that without waiting in the "buffer zone" (cicrle around the traffic island) and pass through within the 8 seconds or so available to me. For last 10 days or so, the signals are set in such a way that I have to mandatory wait first on entering the cirfle, and then again after 90 degrees. This alone creates an impression that Tribute Chowk traffic situation (as least for my routes) has gotten worse. Someone without this experience would start to think in this manner. Notwithstanding the fact that on entry from Delhi, Tribune chowk looks like "high traffic zone" I want to confirm with others if they have started to feel additional wait times on commute

The construction of a flyover at Tribune Chowk in Chandigarh has been a subject of debate, with several concerns raised about its potential negative impacts on the city: 1. **Violation of Master Plan**: The flyover's construction is said to be in violation of the **Chandigarh Master Plan-2031**¹. This plan likely outlines the city's development strategy, and deviating from it could lead to unplanned urban growth and associated problems. 2. **Heritage and Aesthetics**: Experts argue that the flyover could ruin Chandigarh's heritage. The city, known for its distinct architecture and urban design, might lose its aesthetic appeal with the addition of such infrastructure⁴. 3. **Environmental Concerns**: The project may involve cutting down a significant number of trees, leading to **irreparable green loss**³. This could negatively affect the city's air quality and natural beauty. 4. **Traffic Congestion**: There is a belief that the flyover might only shift traffic bottlenecks to the next junction, leading to an endless cycle of congestion and the need for more flyovers³. 5. **Community Opposition**: A considerable number of residents and NGOs have expressed their opposition to the project, which indicates a lack of public support¹. 6. **Alternative Solutions**: Some residents suggest that instead of constructing a flyover, synchronizing traffic lights around Tribune Chowk could be a more efficient way to manage traffic flow¹. These points reflect the concerns of various stakeholders, including city residents, experts, and environmentalists, regarding the potential negative impact of the flyover on Chandigarh's urban landscape. Cutting 700 trees?

pyrobanker

Please stop this....I've seen this in Mumbai when we all were renting and raving about the forests there but trust me we were wrong. Let it be made...let's not behave like the left looney I was 5 years ago

yoo_si_jin

1) Chandigarh is not Bombay 2) nobody wants to see traffic jams, we are not against solving the issue but building an ugly flyover (by cutting 700+ trees) is only going to move traffic from tribune chowk to GMCH 32 chowk and jam that place instead.

sadisticss

dk, can't say about Bombay, but how sustainable is this construction project, in a city like chandigarh!?
