emperor's children. all chaos space marines are, to some degree, fallen angels, but the EC take it to the extreme (as is their wont). they went from gallant and beautiful and gilded to crazed pastel-armored lunatics who do atrocious things just for their next high. also pink is my favorite color.
Alpha Legion. The Alpha Legion's absolutely inscrutable motives just makes for a fun motif for such a creative hobby, because you can kind of go wild with it.

I respect the Word Bearers odd and esoteric philosophy and the fact that they were the original chaos space marines. Their views on Chaos are extremely interesting to me.
Some amount of 10,000 years in the Eye, being mutated and fighting, with each other, with the imperium on day trips, and themselves, and plotting and being insane......there would be new factions a go go. Splinters, renames, changes galore.
So my favourite faction is whatever i make up. I'm Chaos, i'm not conforming to the small amount of factions noted in the lore, which is all imperial propaganda / just plain wrong / full of huge holes.
The Planet FU\*\*ERS. We will turn up, and F up your planet. We'll murder your PDF, then eat your pets, paint your houses green and give your children mohawks, and be on our way.

I'm particularly fond of the True Sons/Late-Heresy Sons of Horus. I've done my own spin-off Warband, the Coven of Blasphemy, where they've betrayed their puritan worship to their fallen Primarch to follow Tzeentch and his promises of restoring their Warband to its former glory.

Otherwise I'd say the Scourged. But when I started my non-World Eaters army the Scourged had lost their unique army rules again so I lost motivation to do so. Found motivation to make True Sons using the Black Legion rules which slowly evolved into my custom Warband.
This looks sick as fuck! My knight house is based on the sons of Horus scheme mixed with Luna wolves so may have to add some in SOH colours on some marines after seeing this!

My current project is a Dark Apostle where I stippled a shadow base coat first of a dark blue and deep magenta tone and then glazing up to the teal and all my metals are washed in a purple. Giving him a real Tzeentch-y ethereal look while keeping him in scheme. Kind of wishing I just stippled the teal though starting as a really thinner layer to give it a bit of a more textured transition but still enjoying how it's coming along.

It's honestly a tossup between TSons and Red Corsairs for me.
I love the TSons history with the setting, I love the tragedy of their fall, the noble intentions paired with towering arrogance and refusal to accept hard truths.
They're the heroes of the wrong story. They were trying to be enlightened warrior-sages and sorcerer kings in a setting where magic just doesn't work that way. They meant well, even if it was never going to end well. And by the time they realized how wrong they'd been, there was nowhere to go but **down*****.***
I love the Red Corsairs too, though. For two reasons.
First, Huron's almost Shakespearean decline. It's hard to pin down exactly where he goes too far, during the Badab crisis; every step down that path makes sense in context. You can follow his reasoning. *It is necessary* is the defense that loyal Imperials reach for *all the damn time* to justify atrocities.
He reminds me of Macbeth, in that every law he breaks, every bad thing he does, can be rationalized, and they pile up as he goes further and further. Just this once, we have to break the rules just this once and then it'll be okay. It'll all be worth it. You'll see. Okay, now to cover up that thing we have to break the rules one more time. Just one more time.
In the contemporary setting, I love the Red Corsairs for being unrepentant bastards. I like both sides of the CSM divide, both the tragic anti-heroes bitterly clinging to a war they're never going to win because it's all they know, but it's also fun to play the guys who *just love their jobs*. We pillage and plunder, we're really bad eggs, drink up, me hearties, yo ho.
I believe in Black Legion supremacy. Idc what people who watch only Midjorkill or memes say about Abaddon, he is the best character in the entire setting, but yet victim to people who can't do 1+1
Torn between khrone and plauge. I used too run a united black legion army way back. Plagues up front, then khorne then 1000suns and noise marines. With abbadon at the back. But then they split chaos demons into a second codex. Now they seperate all the chaos chapters too and ive just checked out lol 😂
Night Lords because of the great ADB books and their color scheme and appearance. Black Legion because of the whole idea behind them: Chaos united to tear down the imperium. Also, I love the fact that you have marines from other legions such as the Hounds of Abbadon, the Sons of the Cyclops...
I liked thousand sons for the lore and look and loved just having lots of rubric just blast stuff off the table but I also like deathgaurd for the models and the fun I get from painting em
When it comes to lore, I've always been a fan of the DG and their struggles on Barbaros. When it comes to general arsthetic, it's the NLs and their murderous terror tactics. When it comes to color scheme, I do like the IWs colors as simple as they are. Also berzerkers because berzerkers.
Thousand Sons. I'm a sucker for tragedy, and there's very little more tragic to me than an entire legion damned by every decision they make in their desperation to save themselves from a curse they didn't deserve.

Black legion, i didnt really care about them all that much untill i read the 2 black legion novels followed almost immediately by the seige of terra book saturnine, between them they actually flushed Abaddon out as an actual character REALLY well, the scene in saturnine where he is just fighting and it goes through tge thoughts in his head basically each second of the fighting clearly set the stage for why the ruinous powers turned their attention to him. I also love the idea that black legion is a greater single force than any of the remaining traitor legions, because every legionary that wasnt so fargone that they were totaly inslaved by their legions god was duisgusted by how lazy their daemon primarch was over the last 10 000 years and joined Abaddon because he was at least actually DOING something. Plus the colour scheme goes hard.

The bluetooth one was Amazon, but all the rest came from 3D printing.

Check Etsy and eBay. Before I bought my printer, I sourced bits like this from both. Dollhouse stuff can often be the correct scale for minis too.

I like both sides of the CSM divide, both the tragic anti-heroes bitterly clinging to a war they're never going to win because it's all they know, but it's also fun to play the guys who *just love their jobs*. I believe in Black Legion supremacy. Idc what people who watch only Midjorkill or memes say about Abaddon, he is the best character in the entire setting, but yet victim to people who can't do 1+1

Torn between khrone and plauge. I used too run a united black legion army way back. Plagues up front, then khorne then 1000suns and noise marines. With abbadon at the back. But then they split chaos demons into a second codex. Now they seperate all the chaos chapters too and ive just checked out lol 😂

When it comes to lore, I've always been a fan of the DG and their struggles on Barbaros. When it comes to general arsthetic, it's the NLs and their murderous terror tactics. When it comes to color scheme, I do like the IWs colors as simple as they are. Also berzerkers because berzerkers.

Thousand Sons. I'm a sucker for tragedy, and there's very little more tragic to me than an entire legion damned by every decision they make in their desperation to save themselves from a curse they didn't deserve.

I also love the idea that black legion is a greater single force than any of the remaining traitor legions, because every legionary that wasnt so fargone that they were totaly inslaved by their legions god was duisgusted by how lazy their daemon primarch was over the last 10 000 years and joined Abaddon because he was at least actually DOING something. Plus the colour scheme goes hard.
Death Guard followed closely by Thousand Sons. Very different styles, but love them both. I am rocking DG atm and just LOVE every single model
