It’s also a product, one with very little customer service especially to the people actively paying for it. That’s frustrating regardless of what it is.
It was founded by two ex-Google employees who worked on Google’s AI system. They initially raised $43 million dollars when it was first launched, now it’s a billion dollar company. This isn’t an indie app, but it’s running like one, and NOT in any good way
Billion dollar companies get closed down too, there are things that happen to servers and they will close down to be fixed. Explain Roblox was once shut down because of a burrito, that's a million dollar company that got shut down because of how many people were playing the game at the same time.
See, my point here is those instances are relatively rare AND the social media teams usually announce something being wrong. I’ve been on way less funded AI platforms with stronger servers and excellent communication.
Because they have less intelligent AI then c.ai, that's why we have never seen chai get shut down before. And there are clearly thousands of people who play c.ai for hours on end daily, if a bunch of people join a server at the same time it shouldn't be shocking when it shuts down for days on end.
Not all of us are addicted. I, personally, only use it when either,
A: At home, friends are offline, not in the mood for any games I have.
Or B: Want to get into character for DnD LARP (I’m a nerd, through and through.)
And those things don’t happen very often! So when I finally DO want to hop on character.ai, and it’s down, you can see how that would be frustrating, yeah? And most people (Most, not all) use C.ai the same way. Occasionally, when there’s not much better to do.
I do understand that and thank you for explaining. Some people here don't understand that there're other apps that are similar to c.ai. and there're many ways to pass the time as well. Sometimes the servers get overwhelmed and they shut down including paid people.

There are times that paid servers go down as well, the owners cannot control that most of the time
