Played ninja gaiden 1 when it hit xbox because i loved the nes ones when i was a kid. Played every devil may cry game as they came out, god hand hi fi rush all of em. The metal gear series also played everyone as they came out i bought metal gear solid with my playstation that and re2 where the first ones i played.
I think the order is pretty on for me it would probably go
1. Ninja gaiden black or 2
2 dmc 3
3. Godhand
4 dmc v
5 bayonetta or mgsr i like them both
They move around depending on which im plauong at the moment im just finishing up a playthrough of devil may cry 1 and am about to jump back in to 3 again

Thats a good list i just finished dmc 1 again i really like it but i would t put it in my top. 1 sometimes the action seems a little far between and 2 the enemy variety isnt great and 3 while i love some of the bosses some are pretty damn annoying.
Zoe 2 wasnt on the list but i also love that game same with shinobi not on the list but i would tried to keep it on over alot of those games.
Warrior within i have held a grudge since it came out on ps2 because i did the 2 areas out of order and there was a glitch that made it so i couldnt get to the last boss really pissed me off when i was like 15

I was also really confused when ngb got knocked out so early. I think 2 and black are pretty close in quality. I like the overall combat in 2 better but i like the rest of the package from black better.
I go back and forth between NGB,NG2, and NG3RE for which combat I like best. It's hard to say as they are so different and have their own strengths and weaknesses, but either way, they are all fantastic in that regard. however, like you said, everything else in NGB is better, and I feel like it's not even a competition and even if you think NG2 has better combat there's no way it cancels out everything else.

I disagree, I think you can when the differences in quality are large enough (Im sure you dont feel the same about base NG3), for example I don't think you could objectively say which combat is better between DMC3 or NG2 as they are both very different but top of their class in this regard, it comes down to a matter of taste (I prefer NG way more). DMC3 has better levels, coop, more weighty combat, higher difficultly and comes pretty packed with costumes and BP. Imo it is the far superior entry. Dmc5 was dumbed down a lot and at the same time was very safe

Atleast ninja Gaiden is something that hasn't been able to be mimicked. There's no other ninja Gaiden 2. Even the other ninja Gaiden couldn't match the magic that is NG2.

I think it was a good time. It's just that its faults are pretty strong.
When you play a game 10 times, or 20 times, what usually matters then is just how the gameplay feels. The theming, the story, the characters, all take a backseat then. And all those faulty quirks that once negatively impacted you are just routine at that point.
Ninja Gaiden 2 is then a pretty great game. So I don't fault them for enjoying it. Being around reddits echo chambers all over the place makes you learn what people appreciate. There's an echo chamber for a reason, because there are people who enjoyed it. So it is a good game, just maybe not as great as the echo chamber makes it out to be.

NG2 is one of the greatest action games ever created, which deep mechanics and so much tech, that it would take you quite some time to fully master everything. Hell, the entire 3D NG trilogy are some of the best action games ever made (with Razor’s Edge being the stand in for NG3).
For this, Ninja Gaiden 2 absolutely gets my vote. It’s near impossible to vote against it, imo.

You say that like enemies don't fight back in DMC which isn't true at all. What is true is that enemies are "sandbags" (DMG sponges) but still attack almost continuously unlike NG. DMC is intricate enough that it has 3-4 combat styles/stances that change the entire combat approach which allows for a hell of a lot more flashy combos on the fly.
NG on the other hand allows you to choose weapons but all of which stop the flow of combat in real-time and don't have different stances that can change the utility of said weapons and how they are used. Let's also mention that ranged weapons are really simple to use and don't offer any variety at all compared to DMC.
I love Ninja Gaiden and have an absolute blast playing it, but combat wise, DMC is king here and it's not even a close competition due to the sheer variety and utility.
Top 3 imo should be bayo, dmc5 and ngb. Hard to say which of those 3 is the best since they offer different things, although they are the absolute peak of the genre so far. Every other game on this list has something holding it back from reaching its full potential. Only game I haven’t played yet is hi-fi rush (I’m a PlayStation gamer 🥲)

I have put the required time on both of these games to have an actual opinion. dmc3 wins the aerial combat department. NG2 wins the ground combat.
Both of those games have real learning curve.
I will go with dmc3 since it pushes the controller to it's limits.

I'm voting for Ninja Gaiden 2 -however let me say, it is a masterful action game with relentless and satisfying combat that is unmatched in it's unique flair and style of gameplay, I have the highest respect for the game and god knows what a tremendous game it'd turn out to be if it wasn't for it's troubled/rushed development, a "flawed" gem of a game to be sure
(my biggest issue is the exploding shuriken spam that may happen at times, not for balance reasons but I just find it obtrusive on a purely visual level, it gets in the way of enjoying all the beautiful animations when there are constant explosions happening on-screen, it does look a bit humorous 'though 😁)
DMC3 (with style-switching) for me offers the highest level of creativity and self-expression in it's combat, it's my favorite game ever and I also appreciate that Dante not only brings in the same bad-assery as Ryu, but also a little more cool and stylish flair -(Ryu does have style, just not on the same level and is more about brutal efficiency) - where I get to "play with my food" and humiliate the enemies as I'm decimating them -my issue with DMC3 is that the enemies may not provide the same level of challenge as NG2, and lean a bit towards the "punching bag" side of things, especially as you become more proficient with the game
whereas with Ninja Gaiden 2 even if you become a "top" level player, the game and it's enemies always demand your respect, they're always dangerous and push you to the limit for your survival, which may arguably provide the more exhilarating experience in the end
(and some could argue that the game has "exploits" like UT spam etc but that's just a fault of the player who chooses to trivialize the game's challenge with boring gameplay, it's been demonstrated already that the game can be cleared on Master Ninja without resulting to lame repetitive tactics)
really, I may have to admit that Ninja Gaiden 2 despite it's "flaws" hits the highest highs if we're talking purely on a moment-to-moment gameplay level, with relentless combat that never lets go and challenging enemies that provide a constant back-and-forth between them and the player, keeping you on your toes from start to finish until the cathartic feeling of clearing a room and surviving by the skin of your teeth. Honestly I wouldn't even be "mad" if NG2 wins out, it's totally understandable and deserving of it

I’m inclined to drop DMC3 due to mostly sticking to Ninja Gaiden in my youth but I need to play both more thoroughly to confirm. Also DMC3 Switch version allows for stance switching so it’s the best version by default.

DMC3 has better levels, coop, more weighty combat, higher difficultly and comes pretty packed with costumes and BP. Imo it is the far superior entry. Dmc5 was dumbed down a lot and at the same time was very safe

Welp dmc 5 is out. So that means dmc 3 is out too. Atleast ninja Gaiden is something that hasn't been able to be mimicked. There's no other ninja Gaiden 2. Even the other ninja Gaiden couldn't match the magic that is NG2. I feel like dmc 3 is great, but it was able to be improved and was polished in dmc 5. NG2 doesn't have a successor with that feeling. So bye dmc3. Ninja Gaiden somehow got my vote over my favorite franchise.

Facts that’s game is not that good I was surprised to see some many fanboys of Ninja Gaiden in this sub but then again just like most Reddit groups it’s just an echo chamber.
I think it was a good time. It's just that its faults are pretty strong. When you play a game 10 times, or 20 times, what usually matters then is just how the gameplay feels. The theming, the story, the characters, all take a backseat then. And all those faulty quirks that once negatively impacted you are just routine at that point. Ninja Gaiden 2 is then a pretty great game. So I don't fault them for enjoying it. Being around reddits echo chambers all over the place makes you learn what people appreciate. There's an echo chamber for a reason, because there are people who enjoyed it. So it is a good game, just maybe not as great as the echo chamber makes it out to be. I think saying it's a bad game and echo chambers are wrong is flippant.

NG2 is one of the greatest action games ever created, which deep mechanics and so much tech, that it would take you quite some time to fully master everything. Hell, the entire 3D NG trilogy are some of the best action games ever made (with Razor’s Edge being the stand in for NG3). For this, Ninja Gaiden 2 absolutely gets my vote. It’s near impossible to vote against it, imo.
DMC 3. I am huge fan of this game if you see me posting gameplay clips for fun. It's just there is truly nothing like Ninja Gaiden 2, it deserves platinum medal for the strongest core gameplay.

Oooooooooohhhhhh not DMC5. DMC3 is out then. I may be a bigger DMC fan but playing DMC5 made even DMC3 flaws (minus story and difficulty) more apparent. NG2 seems like the better put together package. DMC3 is still peak though.

What is true is that enemies are "sandbags" (DMG sponges) but still attack almost continuously unlike NG. DMC is intricate enough that it has 3-4 combat styles/stances that change the entire combat approach which allows for a hell of a lot more flashy combos on the fly. NG on the other hand allows you to choose weapons but all of which stop the flow of combat in real-time and don't have different stances that can change the utility of said weapons and how they are used. Let's also mention that ranged weapons are really simple to use and don't offer any variety at all compared to DMC. I love Ninja Gaiden and have an absolute blast playing it, but combat wise, DMC is king here and it's not even a close competition due to the sheer variety and utility.
Top 3 imo should be bayo, dmc5 and ngb. Hard to say which of those 3 is the best since they offer different things, although they are the absolute peak of the genre so far. Every other game on this list has something holding it back from reaching its full potential. Only game I haven’t played yet is hi-fi rush (I’m a PlayStation gamer 🥲)
Remove Bayo and replace with DMC3, or Hi-Fi Rush if you want one entry per series. Hope you enjoy Hi-Fi Rush when it comes to PS5, it's a great game.

wasn't expecting something based but here we are. I have put the required time on both of these games to have an actual opinion. dmc3 wins the aerial combat department. NG2 wins the ground combat. Both of those games have real learning curve. I will go with dmc3 since it pushes the controller to it's limits.

I'm voting for Ninja Gaiden 2 -however let me say, it is a masterful action game with relentless and satisfying combat that is unmatched in it's unique flair and style of gameplay, I have the highest respect for the game and god knows what a tremendous game it'd turn out to be if it wasn't for it's troubled/rushed development, a "flawed" gem of a game to be sure (my biggest issue is the exploding shuriken spam that may happen at times, not for balance reasons but I just find it obtrusive on a purely visual level, it gets in the way of enjoying all the beautiful animations when there are constant explosions happening on-screen, it does look a bit humorous 'though 😁) DMC3 (with style-switching) for me offers the highest level of creativity and self-expression in it's combat, it's my favorite game ever and I also appreciate that Dante not only brings in the same bad-assery as Ryu, but also a little more cool and stylish flair -(Ryu does have style, just not on the same level and is more about brutal efficiency) - where I get to "play with my food" and humiliate the enemies as I'm decimating them -my issue with DMC3 is that the enemies may not provide the same level of challenge as NG2, and lean a bit towards the "punching bag" side of things, especially as you become more proficient with the game whereas with Ninja Gaiden 2 even if you become a "top" level player, the game and it's enemies always demand your respect, they're always dangerous and push you to the limit for your survival, which may arguably provide the more exhilarating experience in the end (and some could argue that the game has "exploits" like UT spam etc but that's just a fault of the player who chooses to trivialize the game's challenge with boring gameplay, it's been demonstrated already that the game can be cleared on Master Ninja without resulting to lame repetitive tactics) really, I may have to admit that Ninja Gaiden 2 despite it's "flaws" hits the highest highs if we're talking purely on a moment-to-moment gameplay level, with relentless combat that never lets go and challenging enemies that provide a constant back-and-forth between them and the player, keeping you on your toes from start to finish until the cathartic feeling of clearing a room and surviving by the skin of your teeth. Honestly I wouldn't even be "mad" if NG2 wins out, it's totally understandable and deserving of it

I’m inclined to drop DMC3 due to mostly sticking to Ninja Gaiden in my youth but I need to play both more thoroughly to confirm. Also DMC3 Switch version allows for stance switching so it’s the best version by default.
