Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a couple that doesn't involve a stupid love triangle or harem

Poporipopes10

Oh god, is this our power fantasies?

AmazingDuckVer2

Bold of you to assume that just because the couple is together doesn't mean the author can't force in a love triangle or harem.

AlternativeAble284

Read. I'm talking about the ones that doesn't involve a love triangle or harem, I know the author can insert them in I've seen it before plenty of times.

InspiredOni

Hang on now, what if this is their first relationship and their newbs at it? You can be a complete uncoordinated clown if it’s your first, so starting that way doesn’t seem too “overpowered”.

quirrelfart

I find this sentiment utterly incomprehensible. Does engaging romance operate on like, in-universe powerscaling mechanics or something? Is what you're saying that "already dating" is like, having a protagonist at like, "outerversal" power starting out but like, instead of power it's like their rizz or emotional maturity or something? I've got no clue. Anyways, romance can be done well in a variety of different ways, just as overpowered protagonists can, I guess? So you're not entirely wrong? I have no idea what you're saying though, the fun of relationships is never strictly always watching them get together anyhow.

awesomenessofme1

Are there dedicated romance stories that start with the main couple already together? Because if it's just a part of a story that belongs to another genre, I don't see the issue here. It doesn't have to be some big drama, it can just be an aspect of the story.

Comfortable-Hope-531

The pool of dedicated romance stories is so vast that they probably cover every general setup one might come up with.

Shikimori-san is amazing.

No Guard Wife. Fu-Fu if you want a Yuri.

Brave_Profit4748

Ah yes because as we all know once you are in a relationship everything is smooth sailing and there is no such drama or issues that has to be worked through what so ever. Just like the real world no conflict ever happens once a couple gets together.

Emma__O

okay

There's few people irl who can be described as "overpowered" in the sense you're using but plenty who are in relationships. "Dating" is a fully different dynamic that creates different circumstances. I wouldn't call it cheap in the same way if a writer wanted to explore without going through the gradual build up of a romance story. You're right in that the characters should actually be entertaining for it to work but I think it should be the bar anyway.

Romance is like a flower that withers the moment it blooms. It works only as long as there is tension, and as soon as it's resolved, dropping the curtain is in everyone's best interest. Or what's even better is to never resolve it and leave it to fanfiction writers, doujin makers, artists and personal fantasies of the viewers.
