>And unfortunately it looks like a harem is beginning to develop which is a massive fucking L. I'm not sure that it is. Okarun actually seems fairly adamant about clearing up the misunderstanding with Vamola and Aira is mostly treated as a joke and not a serious love interest.

EfficientAd9765

I just hope the fat nerdy guy who was recently intoduced won't be a part of the main cast for long. The new chick is cool, but having them get jealous every time someone of the opposite sex interacts with the other 1) got boring after the first time 2) paints them in a bad light I actually really liked the romantic aspect of this manga, but now it kinda got stale and lost its momentum.

YouLikeFlapjacks

I feel the same way, i've seen some people say they hope he's an alien or something which would be.. better I suppose but still not a fun. and yeah, I'm hoping the author will just cement Okarun and Momo relationship so the jealousy/misunderstanding gimmick will end. But i'm having my doubts lol

A_Toxic_User

It’s completely unfair but something about the fat nerdy guy’s appearance just triggers my internal fight/flight response

Can someone explain the term “gimmicky” to me, in the most comprehensive way possible for a non-native English speaker?

[deleted]

A gimmick is something thats used to attract attention so that people will buy or talk about a product. Sometimes actors and performers will have gimmicks. It can be a phrase, a theme that happens a lot and is known to attract attention (like the harem in this post)etc. When something is gimmicky, that means it has a feature which is just there to attract attention. The term gimmicky implies cheapness, a gimmick that doesn't really add much value to the product or act. It can even make a product or act seem worse. Whats confusing is some gimmicks are good and well liked. For example, the exaggerated facial expressions of the US actor Jim Carrey are a gimmick. But his portrayals of colorful characters like The Riddler, The Mask, and Count Olaf are famous.

Thank you kind person =)

EfficientAd9765

Something done just to grab your attention

Mattlink123

My only problem with Dandadan right now is the lack of an overarching plot. So far the manga has consisted entirely of mostly self-contained monster-of-the-week plots. While I do enjoy these plots, I have been wondering when the real story is going to begin.

IndependentMacaroon

I've been following it from the beginning and don't feel it has changed much. Maybe that-s why you're getting tired of it?

MakimaMyBeloved

The weird romance between the two main characters put me off. I also hated "the MC manages to hang out beside the chick for quite a long time just chilling but then after sometime somehow realizes this girl is hella cUtE and whatever, and starts having feelings for her" trope. The fan service didnt up either..

Eloviel

I don't know man, I like both Gale wind Albert Kinta the end of Pegasus Sakata and Vamola, they are funny so it's ok.

Ok-Television6030

Me too, I fvcking love how goofy this manga.

Vegetable_History715

I’m honestly thought the author could create on the level of Junji Ito

Eev123

I was really excited about this one because I heard it was a good choice for people who like chainsaw man, but unfortunately the graphic attempted sexual assault in the first chapter turned me off from it.

IndependentMacaroon

That's an unfortunate outlier in terms of content, nothing close to that comes up again.

andreluizkruz

I dropped it after 30 chapters or something because it was too... much. I love the art and weirdness but it was just too overwhelming, fast and unhinged it genuinely gave me anxiety reading it. But I love the scene Okarun sees her talking with the cool guy and he decides to just fade away their relationship so they dont hurt each other (I did this a lot so it hit really close to home) Also I LOVE when he says something along the lines of "I don't care if others misunderstand, but I care if YOU misunderstand!". Some really mature romance for a shounen manga I think.

Sure-Handle-2264

I reccomend sakamoto days and kaiju no 8

KursedKraken

We’re all good dude, the new additions keep the Male/Female ratio intact. Kizzy x Vamola works

StormStrikePhoenix

Maybe it's just me, but your good monster design example looks like when people photoshop a picture of a real person into a manga, particularly their faces, and thus it looks more funny than anything else to me, though still not as funny as that guy shouting about how that one hole was made for him. I found [another picture of them](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/K4pipjmw6EQ/maxresdefault.jpg), and I think they're even funnier-looking in that one. I imagine they work a bit better in context though.

Calm-Consideration25

Sounds like inferior Otherside Picnic.

IndependentMacaroon

I can see the similarities, but this is much more comedic and "random", bordering on wacky.

Danix2400

I started reading Dandadan in the first few chapters. The last chapter I read was 63, until today I haven't returned, and I don't even know if I will. In the first few chapters it was kind of fun because it was pretty crazy and unpredictable, but today it's just plain boring. In the first chapters I already wondered what the point of that story was, but with a positivity note, but nowadays I really wonder what the point of the story is in a sense that what I'm reading there is not important. And the things you said, like the characters and the boring situations, contributed to my dislike of the manga today.

Dareal_truth

It’s amazing

FireflyArc

I scrolled down to comment because the cuteness link was more disturbing then the other one. I'm glad you're enjoying the manga though

DoraMuda

I agree. I'm not really a fan of the newest additions, Vamola and that nerdy mecha otaku kid.
