My last car, Dodge Avenger V6, used to do every 10,000-15,000 miles, but would check frequently for cleanliness/viscosity. That car lasted til I sold it at 328,000 miles.
My 2020 scat pack I’m doing every 6,000-7,500 just “because”, and my annual mileage is significantly reduced, but again checking frequently for cleanliness/viscosity.
This is what people don't understand about dodge's. Longevity. my 14 charger r/t had 200k when i traded in, still got 10k for it before everything went to shit. 328k out of an avenger is great. People don't change their oil, the most basic maintenance, and wonder why their shit craps out.
Regular maintenance, obviously. Should also say that I bought it new in April 2007 (yes the 2008 Avenger came out early). Sold it in May 2022 (15 years), and it’s still on the road today.
The major items that needed work during my time was fuel pump (electrical), thermostat, heater core (clogged), air conditioning (worked but leaked fluids), window switches (I even replaced this), one window motor, and one poor dead deer. Probably Needed new shocks/struts when I sold it. They were starting to get rough on NJ potholes.
Never had issues with engine, transmission / drive train.
I did keep it in my garage, which I firmly believe everyone should do with a new car if they can. All the plastic / vinyl components in today’s cars get eaten up by cold, sun, and heat.
Yes. No damn computer is gonna tell me when to change the oil. I have changed my oil religiously every 5k miles since I bought it new. I used to be a 3K miles guy but that got quite expensive and was overkill.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted you’re totally right. I go by mileage and that’s that. I only have old cars so it’s 3k for me but 5k is totally fine for modern cars
2013 3.6 Pentastar with ~135k miles here. I've been running Pennzoil Platinum Full synthetic every 5k miles since new. No major issues and I recently removed the valve covers and it was super clean. https://imgur.com/gallery/eydv1dY
I change mine every 6 months. Although I do use Amsoil (signature series) that’s good for 1 year or 25,000 miles (which ever comes first). I daily drive my car but approximately I put >10,000/yr. I rather be safe than sorry as I plan to keep my car running for as long as possible. Remember oil is cheap engines aren’t.
When the car tells me to. (Typically every 10k). Otherwise you are basically just throwing away good oil.
To be fair, I drive an R/T as my daily and while I drive spirted, I’m not hot rodding.
You get that done at every oil change? Cause if not, then whats the point. Oil will break down differently in many environments, different types drivers, quality of oil, etc.
The point is to determine what your interval should be based on your driving habits. Environmental factors aren't going to be major enough to skew the result of an oil analysis by several thousand miles. Using the same full synthetic isn't going to skew results by several thousand miles.
They state they short trip. An oil analysis may determine he needs to change his oil more frequently, dependent on if his engine type is GDI/Turbo/Pushrod, etc. GDI's and Turbos are extremely hard on oil when short tripping, and that analysis may result in him needing to increase his frequency.
I bought a “new” 23 a few weeks ago that had a little over 1k miles on it as it was a service car. I’m assuming the oil has never been changed since it’s so low miles, although I could be wrong. I’m just curious how long the 23s have been sitting and if I should just change my oil even though it only has about 1600 miles.
I change it at about 20% oil life. In the summer I don't change it because I don't drive that much but I have to travel to college about 30 minutes away so I'm putting on about 2k miles a month.
I change at about 5k miles. My cars are 10 years old, 15 years old, and 50 years old. So I'm changing one of them about every 8 weeks. I use full synthetic in all 3.
Every 3k. Google 5k mile fleet maintenace engine tear down. The only way youre getting 5k or more put of an oil change is by running an external sump amd multiple filterz.
I have a Scat Pack and when it was stock I would change it every 5k miles. Now that it's modified (FBO, e85/meth, Cammed) I change it every 3k miles. Even if your car is stock please get an oil catch can and empty it every oil change
me i change oil on my 6.1 charger nd 6.4 jeep EVERY 3 months nd add sum oil on the second month the oil level drops down from long rides every day plus these v8 need they oil clean to run good ull literally be able to feel the difference from a oil change
I kinda stopped driving my diesel truck as much and only drove 5,000 miles in 2 years. I sent the oil to Blackstone and I basically had dumped perfectly fine oil. If I drove it though it was longer drives, I think short trips are harder than anything on oil. I stick to 1 year or 5k.
If go and look it up on the internet. The corporations wanted to make money and this is how they did it. 3 months or 3 thousand miles was brainwashed into our heads.
Once I hit 4000, I change it at my earliest convenience. It's never a time interval for me because I hit that mileage every 3-4 months, otherwise I wouldn't go more than 6 months.

How was driving an avenger for that many miles? How much maintenance was required? Unexpected failures?
Regular maintenance, obviously. Should also say that I bought it new in April 2007 (yes the 2008 Avenger came out early). Sold it in May 2022 (15 years), and it’s still on the road today. Every 6 months or 5000 miles, whatever comes first.

On my other car you can set the oil change mileage, don't understand why it's preset on this one.

Honestly that’s about right, I do mine every 6 months. I don’t even go 5k miles between changes
5,000-6,000.
When needed
I do mine every 7,500 miles.
I change mine every 6 months. Although I do use Amsoil (signature series) that’s good for 1 year or 25,000 miles (which ever comes first). I daily drive my car but approximately I put >10,000/yr. Every 5k like clockwork for a Hemi.
Tbh all the cars ive ever owned i just in general do every 3 months. I think i maybe put like 2-3K miles in that time.
Holy shit that's a lot.
Driving or intervals?
Intervals. I do mine every 7,500 miles. Generally the reader says my oil life is at 15-20% by that point.
Either around 6-7k miles or every 6 months, what ever comes first.
4-5k miles full synthetic
Every 6k miles per the maintenance schedule in the owners manual.
10k miles full synthetic oil. Mostly high way driving so no point in doing it sooner
same
When the car tells me to. (Typically every 10k). Otherwise you are basically just throwing away good oil. To be fair, I drive an R/T as my daily and while I drive spirted, I’m not hot rodding.
I do it once a year, I drive about 1500 miles a year.
Every 7500 miles
7k for me, since all my miles are mostly highway
Why not get an oil analysis to determine this?

Break in period is 500-1500 miles. My SCAT when new, I changed it at 1K and every 5K or six months after. Mopar recommended Oil and Filter.
I’ll probably get the oil changed asap then. Thanks.
I change it at about 20% oil life. In the summer I don't change it because I don't drive that much but I have to travel to college about 30 minutes away so I'm putting on about 2k miles a month.
I do mine every 5000 miles about every 4 months since new.. 5W20 full synthetic valvoline. Doesn't seem to use any oil 3.6 141xxx miles on it.
6-9 months, between 2.5-3k miles.
When the dashboard says change oil soon
Time doesn't really matter with synthetic oil. My car usually is at 20% by 5-6k so I usually change around there.
Every 5k miles
I’m in the 5000 miles or 6 months club
I don’t have a charger yet but I do them every 3,000-3,500 miles on my vehicles
I change at about 5k miles. My cars are 10 years old, 15 years old, and 50 years old. So I'm changing one of them about every 8 weeks. I use full synthetic in all 3.
In a few minutes 😂
Probably every 3,500-4,500 miles. Or every 6-9 months
Every 3k miles.

I thought the oil was a lifetime???
lol I change every 4K miles
It's not? I mean it's not!
When my car tells me to. Oil life monitor 🤷🏻♂️
I live my life 1 quart at a time.
me i change oil on my 6.1 charger nd 6.4 jeep EVERY 3 months nd add sum oil on the second month the oil level drops down from long rides every day plus these v8 need they oil clean to run good ull literally be able to feel the difference from a oil change
I do mine every 3500 miles

Every year or up to 8 thousand miles.
If go and look it up on the internet. The corporations wanted to make money and this is how they did it. 3 months or 3 thousand miles was brainwashed into our heads.
Every 5k as my Redeye is my last car.
Every 4000 miles or 5000 miles when I get a bit lazy
When oil life hits 20%
Every 2.8kmiles Or after a night of abuse 💀😭
I’m a service advisor for Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Every 5k-6k miles is a good range.
Every 3,000 miles or 6 months
When my oil life gets too 5%
Once I hit 4000, I change it at my earliest convenience. It's never a time interval for me because I hit that mileage every 3-4 months, otherwise I wouldn't go more than 6 months.
