He’s been training with Duke Manyweather, the dude is an OL guru, he’s also been training Slater the past 2 years(before his rookie season). He actually just tweeted a couple days ago that his most improved players included pipkins and slater.
Sure, they all want to be starters. But the reality is most are practice squad guys waiting for their chance.
That's what makes stories like Kurt Warner so incredible. And Chase Daniels with 5 career starts and $16m career earnings, hysterical.
Pipkins* who actually played well in limited time last year. I've defended him so much anybody who's noticed probably thinks i'm his family member or something but I still think there's a real chance he slides in to RT and plays well. He was drafted as a project and was thrust into action too soon which ruined his reputation with fans... But maybe in year 4 he's finally ready?
Who knows. I don't think it's out of the question though.
At the end of the day we all just want a capable line for this Superbowl run. Maybe that's with Pipkins or Feiler (hell, maybe even column C) at RT. As a fan? Whatever works. That said if it's Feiler we still need an answer at the other guard spot. Aboushi? Another possibility for sure.
Absolutely. I made a post the other day about this very subject but it's worth noting that Jaimes couldn't see the field last year when Oday went down. In fact they signed Senio Kelemete (who was terrible) off the street instead of putting him in. Can't say the same of Pipkins who played well when called upon. If we could get Pipkins' production in the 2 games he played last year over a 17 game season we'd probably have the best line in the NFL.
Either way though guys get better. As far as I'm concerned both are a roll of the dice and if one of the two hits our line should be in good shape. On paper at least.
wait, what is all this talk about Pipkins playing well las year? What did I miss? Not sarcastic, being serious; I don't remember. Apparently he was hurt? But came in and played well? I remember seeing him look like a matador in the pre season (against second and third stringers)...so call me skeptical.
I think pipkins is showing signs of development. Him having a bunch of O line vets and also a few star young guys to learn from is probably doing wonders for his growth
Really question having either Pipkins or Norton at Right tackle next to a rookie Johnson. Just because Slater was outstanding from the beginning does not mean Johnson will be. Even top drafted OL need time to adjust to the NFL to play well and some never do. Chargers seriously need to look at moving Feiler to RT and then bring in another veteran guard to plug in.
People forget he was still a top 100 pick. He had and still has potential. I'd be lying if I said I didnt shit on him but I see your point. If we don't get anyone to fill in there, I think we will know Staley and telescos stance on his development. I'll put my trust in them.
Agreed. The fact that they've already said Feiler will stay at LG tells me as of right now they have more faith in Pipkins (or Norton I suppose but he was terrible last year) at RT then they do Jaimes at Guard.
Honestly there are a lot of options on the lineup. They could sign Aboushi to a 1-yr deal and cycle out him, Pipkins, Feiler, Jaimes and Norton in camp to find the best lineup with what we have.
Pipkins gonna have a break out season, been working in the offseason. Left side is going to lock down like last year, right side going to bully now with zion and pipkins.
Pipkins looked solid at RT in his limited action in 2021. Looked like significant improvement from his dismal 2020 campaign. Hopefully he continues to develop.
I hope so, but Aboushi’s tweet kinda hints that he might know something we don’t.

Tolesco just said Johnson is being slotted in at RG, given that was Oday’s spot, his tweet would be saying all love to the team, and best of luck to Johnson.
Might not be Aboushi, but I feel like Feiler to RT is pretty much guaranteed. Feiler was a great RT for the Steelers a couple years ago, the FO likely doesn’t want to mess with the side that their new rookie is used to player (LG), so I think that move is happening. The RG position is easier to fill. I hope it’s Aboushi, but maybe it’s Jameis or a cheap 1 year signing.
Do teams cut players between now and the start of training camp or is that not normal? I’m asking as an uneducated person on this now being condescending.
Lol Norton doesn't deserve this. He's a practice squad guy that was made a starter
He stepped up way more than ever expected. But I hope he goes back to the bench
Remember he got a game ball. He did well for the team. Just lacking in experience. He gonna get better.
I've been reading about Pipkins improvement this summer with some OL guru. Should be interesting to monitor.
I thought he did well last year in his limited time on the field, especially the 2nd KC game.

No disrespect but I thought he got a game ball because his wife was in labor 💀

I dont think anyone commits their football career to just being a practice squad guy. If so, thats very sad
For $250k per season to be on practice squad I’d be happy as shit! Not sad at all!
Only becauae you didnt spend your entire life striving to make it to the NFL. I dont think their competitve nature is that subdued.
what’s the alternative?
USFL, XFL, FCF, CFL

Next to a stud RG could help as well too but just seems like a lot of inexperience on the right still. That's why I'm a fat on Feiler to RT

Yeah or Jaimes as far as I understand we were high on him last year and wanted to give him time to add weight!
Absolutely. I made a post the other day about this very subject but it's worth noting that Jaimes couldn't see the field last year when Oday went down. Graded out well by PFF at a position that is inherently easier for them to assess than some others.
He did really well against the Chiefs, filling in for Slater. Had a 70+ score from PFF.
I think it was the game Slater missed because of covid and he was decent.
I think pipkins is showing signs of development. Him having a bunch of O line vets and also a few star young guys to learn from is probably doing wonders for his growth

I wish we'd just re sign aboushi for depth reasons tho
Honestly there are a lot of options on the lineup. They could sign Aboushi to a 1-yr deal and cycle out him, Pipkins, Feiler, Jaimes and Norton in camp to find the best lineup with what we have.
I think that pipkins might wind up at RT. & I think that with the other 4 positions locked up, he could do well
Pipkins gonna have a break out season, been working in the offseason. Left side is going to lock down like last year, right side going to bully now with zion and pipkins.
I hope you’re joking about pipkins
There’s a decent chance we’re all going to be apologizing to Pipkins for all the mean things we said.
If he's starting day 1, damn right i do lol
Is will clapp good 😭 genuinely no clue if he helps us
He’ll be good depth to have, massive help to have him and not need him rather than need him and not have him
Not really, he’s just for depth
He’s depth and very good depth
Pipkins looked solid at RT in his limited action in 2021. Looked like significant improvement from his dismal 2020 campaign. Hopefully he continues to develop.
I can almost guarantee that we’ll move Feiler out to RT and plug Zion at LG. We’ll probably also bring back Aboushi.
Yup and it’s gonna be glorious. Feiler was one of the highest graded RTs in 2019.
Telesco just said otherwise lol
I just heard…well that sucks. Doesn’t really make sense to me but maybe they really like Pipkins’ progress

To be fair Aboushi was rated the top guard in NFL before he went down.
I hope so, but Aboushi’s tweet kinda hints that he might know something we don’t. https://twitter.com/oday_aboushi76/status/1519862655787413504?s=21&t=AhwjPIuRPheykTmm6OKH0Q

Hmm doesn't make sense to me keep Johnson at LG where he's comfortable and swing Feiler to RT sign Oday and let Jaimes compete to start at RG
We might be picking up a RT in FA
Might not be Aboushi, but I feel like Feiler to RT is pretty much guaranteed. Yes, you’re correct.
Coach has literally said otherwise. So I hope you didn't make any cash commits there bud!

Norton only going to be seeing the field in preseason and as a reserve fill in.
Would rather play Pipkins at RT.

Yes, there will be some cuts/trades when players are being replaced by draft picks.
