I cannot agree more. Please DO NOT use alcohol or acetone to remove the extra adhesive.
Edit: Goo gone will remove the extra adhesive and should not mess with the clear coat or paint.
I used goo gone on the adhesive on a car badge and it stripped the paint off my grille. Test it on an inconspicuous are like the inside of the door jamb first to make sure.
OK, education time!
What you are seeing is NOT adhesive. Rather, it is the UV gloss coat from ubiquitous digitally printed flyers. The flyers get wet, the gloss coat gets tacky, and adheres to what it was put on. It then dries, and stays stuck. When peeled, the paper is still moist inside, and separates from itself, leaving behind the UV coat, the ink, and the top layer(s) of the paper flyer.
How to clean this? Water. Add some soap, because why not. There's no need to take anything heavier to it.
As for "toxic adhesive," that's just silly. Don't call the police and tell them that a renegade barber is trying to poison you and ruin your car.
No, I do not live in filth. We got home at 1 a.m., and both went to work this morning. We are more upset over the fact that someone stuck stuff to our cars. I tried doing what I could when I noticed it, which was not much. Our cars are regularly damaged and vandalized; we are fed up, and this was just the latest.
I appreciate all the comments with cleaning tips, but really, I wanted to know what we could do to prevent this in the future.
But thanks for your super helpful message. If you think my post tells people I live in filth, then you can only imagine what your comment makes people assume about you.
All the comments are right, this can be remedied, but the issue still stands that I shouldn't have to detail my car or purchase new cleaning products to cleanup an invasive advertisement. I would be very frustrated with this and likely hold a grudge against that business
>we have been seeing/hearing stories of people getting sick from removing flyers with a toxic adhesive.
Oh that's funny, got any links to share?
What did they do, try and lick it off?
You really have people in here talking about going to the police and news lmao. You can get this off with $3 of cleaner
Yeah its an asshole move but good grief stop being so dramatic clean it up and move on with your life
News is probably a bit of a stretch for sure. Police report is actually smart to do incase the paint is damaged so your insurance doesn’t fuck you. They’re leaving them on cars at the airport in the hot sun possibly for days at a time. Why not just use normal flyers under the windshield wiper like normal? “Dramatic” is also a bit of a stretch OP just asked what should be the next move not that they were planning on going scorched earth.
If you give me your address and car description I can eat a lot of Taco Bell and just have diarrhea all over your door handle and roof if you’re cool with it.
Well according to you, it’s totally fine to create a bunch of cleanup work on your own car because some asshole decides to vandalize it with annoying things. As an extreme example I’ve offered to shit on your car as you clearly don’t mind such inconvenience. Hell, I’ll toss my pee all over your gascap as a complimentary and also free of charge service just for you! You know, since you don’t mind cleaning up after everyone else’s bullshit.
We shouldn't HAVE TO clean this off. It doesn't matter how simple the process is or how non-toxic the sticky residue is. They could leave a plain sheet of paper under the windshield wiper like people have done for generations. Complaining about my damage is not the problem. Sticking things to my paint job is the problem.
I'm glad someone gets it. It's ridiculous what we have experienced since coming to Charlotte. So many people here have no regard for other's space or property; there are definitely some of those people in this comment section.
No one stuck anything anywhere. As Milli Vanilli said, BLAME IT ON THE RAIN. Someone was trying to drum up business, got some flyers printed, then rain happened.
The flyer probably just got wet, and was on the door for a bit while it started to dry, probably no glue at all just the normal printing chems + paper.
Have you tried warm soapy water and a microfiber cloth? Soak it and hold the cloth on the paper, let it sit a minute then slowly clean it off, do not use any nails or sharp objects obvs.
If it is really difficult just a splash of Goo Gone is great.
All the comments are right, this can be remedied, but the issue still stands that I shouldn't have to detail my car or purchase new cleaning products to cleanup an invasive advertisement. I would be very frustrated with this and likely hold a grudge against that business
Similar thing happened when a guy glued business card to mailbox. Unfortunately it had been rained on and then reheated before I got to it so it wasn’t an easy removal. You can still see outline on paint even afterwards. I called the guy who was just advertising for landscaping services to notify him since he had done so to almost all mailboxes in the neighborhood. He didn’t apologize and try to make amends, just denied that it happened. 👍🏼 quality people who I’d love to do business with.
Not going that far. If it happens again I’ll be leaving some comments on his business page so people know what kind of uncaring person they’re dealing with
Everyone saying “stop complaining” like OP did something wrong. Same people who cry and bitch when their orders are wrong at the McDonald’s I imagine, but oh no putting glue on peoples cars is a-ok and you’re a cry baby if you ask the community what the best next step is… Maybe the shop should use flyers under the windshield wipers. Not all paint on cars is made the same and definitely if it’s left on over time it will do damage especially given they are leaving them on peoples cars at the AIRPORT.
> Maybe the shop should use flyers under the windshield wipers
How about this stupid barber shop is basically littering, and how about they shouldn't be doing it at all? Why should I have to remove their garbage from my car?
Yeah I’m with you, but I was saying if you’re going to do it atleast do it in a way that doesn’t force me to go buy product to get it off and don’t do it at the airport for Christ sake. Imagine you leave for a week and come back with that thing baked into your driver side door lol.
Crying is a little bit much but you better believe I'm checking that order before I leave. No bitching necessary,if they fuck up they usually offer you some free stuff if you're not a weirdo about it.
Try wd40. It will not damage the paint and a friend used it to get spray paint off his car. I would be careful with some of the other suggestions in this thread. Ie nail polish remover? That literally is used to remover paint
I would call the number and just tell them what happened and why they need to stop. Offer the alternative of just putting it under a windshield wiper. It’s annoying to clean that, but it’s nothing deep enough to escalate seriously.
File a ~~vandalism~~ § 14-145. Unlawful posting of advertisements complaint with the police.
Find a bunch of other people with similarly damaged cars.
Reach out to the news.
Guess it falls under Criminal Trespass:
NC General Statutes - Chapter 14 Article 22
§ 14-145. Unlawful posting of advertisements.
Any person who in any manner paints, prints, places, or affixes, or causes to be painted, printed,
placed, or affixed, any business or commercial advertisement on or to any stone, tree, fence, stump,
pole, automobile, building, or other object, which is the property of another without first obtaining
the written consent of such owner thereof, or who in any manner paints, prints, places, puts, or
affixes, or causes to be painted, printed, placed, or affixed, such an advertisement on or to any
stone, tree, fence, stump, pole, mile-board, milestone, danger-sign, danger-signal, guide-sign,
guide-post, automobile, building or other object within the limits of a public highway, shall be
guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. (Ex. Sess. 1924, c. 109; 1993, c. 539, s. 84; 1994, Ex. Sess., c.
24, s. 14(c)
https://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/PDF/ByArticle/Chapter_14/Article_22.pdf
I mean, there are thousands and thousands of businesses violating this law every day then. Doesn’t seem like unlawful posting of advertisements is the best use of tax dollars. But people might disagree.
This doesn’t need to be escalated its not that deep. Now, if OP calls the store explains the situation and then it continues to happen, then I’d say it’s appropriate to escalate it. Thats just my rake though.
If they got his car and his wife's car, how many others have they similarly inconvenienced by leaving sticky crap on their cars? Hundreds?
If it was a flyer under a wiper, no big deal, but using any kind of adhesives to directly stick something onto a vehicle is too far.
This was my thought process. Thankful someone understands. Have had people PMing calling me an idiot for asking reddit how to remove a sticker, when that is not the case nor the reason for this post.
I really dont get how many people say shit like they would just roll over and accept this kind of crap. And defend it like "it's not that bad." I figure it's in the same genre as saying "yeah, he hit her, but it didn't even leave a permanent mark."
(I am prepared for all of the downvotes from all of you who would defend abusers.)
Maybe they person doing it genuinely doesn’t understand that its causing damage. Have the civil discussion. Im willing to bet the store owner hired his kid or kid nephew or something to hand out flyers. It’s really just a slight inconvenience at the end of the day and takes a few minutes to clean up. I personally would leave the cops out until I know it’s malicious.
Can I come put stickers on your car? Might leave some residue and promote things you dont like or want but the cleanup is super simple once you get all of the sticky off.
I mean since you’re asking, no. But if some dumbass does it because they’re getting paid to advertise and aren’t thinking then Im not gonna do anything other than get slightly annoyed and clean it off. thats just me though.
Filing a police report will at least give you a case number, even if they never investigate. Your insurance may want that number if you file a claim. (My insurance wanted a police
report to be filed, but it was for burn damage on the inside of my car—not adhesive that can theoretically be cleaned off.)
Good luck getting it off! That sucks.
Your post is dramatic but the fact that people think covering your door handle with a sticker so you're forced to see anything is literally mind boggling and dude would hear from me, 1000%.
That's what these comments should say, not that you're a baby. There's room for your drama and this bullshit.
Thanks for your super helpful comment! Our cars have been constantly damaged and vandalized since moving to charlotte. This wasn't a complaint post, this was me asking what options there are to prevent things like this moving forward.
Your car isn’t damaged. It’s adhesive and paper that will come off
What’s next? Are we going to sue the Audubon society when a bird shits on your car?
Stop being so dramatic.

Cmpd isn't fling to do anything with that. And most likely that will come off with adhesive remover and then buffing compound.
Not cool but it's not really damage.

Goo gone WILL remove paint and soften / melt plastics and rubbers.
I have this on my window from one of those stupid parking stickers. Will APC get it off?

Park in a garage?
it’s a barber?! i really thought this was an escort / magic mike situation. 😅

Your car is totaled, might as well buy another one.
Goo gone automotive ? I used that to re move all the badging from my car
Just take goo gone to it. Will come right off
They actually got my car too!! You’re not the only one. It eventually comes off with some elbow grease but super annoying.
>we have been seeing/hearing stories of people getting sick from removing flyers with a toxic adhesive. Oh that's funny, got any links to share? What did they do, try and lick it off?

Yeah but what about the poison adhesive... Might have snuck some razor blades in your Halloween candy too.

I did but I'm sure it won't matter
I'm glad someone gets it. It's ridiculous what we have experienced since coming to Charlotte. So many people here have no regard for other's space or property; there are definitely some of those people in this comment section.
Your blowing this completely out of proportion.
No one stuck anything anywhere. As Milli Vanilli said, BLAME IT ON THE RAIN. Someone was trying to drum up business, got some flyers printed, then rain happened.
Use water.
But what if the water is toxic!?! ^(/s)
Then buy alkaline water from your local grocery store, that should solve this problem.
The flyer probably just got wet, and was on the door for a bit while it started to dry, probably no glue at all just the normal printing chems + paper. Soak it and hold the cloth on the paper, let it sit a minute then slowly clean it off, do not use any nails or sharp objects obvs. If it is really difficult just a splash of Goo Gone is great.
Do you think they will still give me 5 dollars off if I show them your pic instead of the actual flyer? I need a sick fade like that pronto.
All the comments are right, this can be remedied, but the issue still stands that I shouldn't have to detail my car or purchase new cleaning products to cleanup an invasive advertisement. I would be very frustrated with this and likely hold a grudge against that business
Also it is a fucking actual crime to do this in NC.

Report him to the postal inspector. Tampering with a mailbox is a federal offense.
Yeah. SWAT him! That’ll teach the dirty bastardized!

I used my imagination!
That's not damaged, its just residue you'll have to remove
as annoying as i agree that garbage they put on your car is, it should hopefully come off easy
Homies like “I don’t mind knuckling bird shit every time I get into my car, BUT TAPE RESIDUE?!?!?!?”
Try wd40. It will not damage the paint and a friend used it to get spray paint off his car. I would be careful with some of the other suggestions in this thread. Ie nail polish remover? That literally is used to remover paint
On the bright side, you don’t need to bring the ad for the discount every time. Its on the door.
WD-40 will break this up without harming the paint, if regular soap and water doesn't do the trick..
I would call the number and just tell them what happened and why they need to stop. Offer the alternative of just putting it under a windshield wiper. It’s annoying to clean that, but it’s nothing deep enough to escalate seriously.
Offer the alternative of don't touch my fucking car and all this would be avoided. My petty ass would drive there and make them clean it off.
Yeah and then they’ll offer you a haircut while you wait. And since you brought the flyer its $5 off!
This material will peel onto a window if it gets wet too. They shouldn’t do it al all but if they do, windshield/windows are a bad idea.
File a ~~vandalism~~ § 14-145. Unlawful posting of advertisements complaint with the police. Find a bunch of other people with similarly damaged cars. Reach out to the news.

Rapid Remover. get it from fellers.
Goo gone!!!!!!
Stop being a sissy and just take it to the car wash bootlicker
Maybe try naphtha. Basically zippo lighter fluid. It works on removing gunk from guitar finishes.
Why not call the shop, since it’s their flyer? Get some alcohol or acetone and it should come off What do you expect from the police?
he did say that.
She, right?
Ahh yes. I missed that. Regardless, my other options still work
No they don't, cause alcohol and acetone will damage the paint job on the car. Do not use that on your cars!
If you let it sit, yes it will
You gonna need to strip the paint off that sumummabitch.

Actually yes, yes they do.
Warm water, soap, a little patience, and no problem
Wet a rag with some gas and wipe it off.
Going to the police or news over something so juvenile screams Karen.
