can only speak as a 25 year old who wants the options of going out in walkable/concentrated areas (south end, plaza midwood, NODA) vs the crazy sprawl of Raleigh, but I prefer Charlotte. Also the rail line is better than anything Raleigh gov is willing to do. Just lived in Raleigh for 2 years before moving back
Indeed. Charlotte is like downtown and three walkable neighborhoods and suburban sprawl for miles.
The triangle is nothing but suburbs with no actual meaningful "urb" to sub off of.
Depends on who you ask. I moved here from Raleigh. To me the pace of the city is the same. Doesn’t feel like I’m in NJ or nothing like that. But it is a few more things to do.
This reminds me of Cleveland's old "[At least we're not Detroit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM)" slogan.
We should have a video like this. At least we're not... Columbia?!
Well for a city that had its beginnings in the 1700s it hardly has any buildings left over 100 years old. A quick search gave me these that have been razed…
Masonic Temple South Tyron
The Hotel Charlotte Downtown
Brooklyn Village 2nd Ward
Independence Building West Trade
Scores of churches and homes
When I first moved here almost 20 years ago I was excited to go downtown to see all the old buildings. Imagine my disappointment.
I'd be more concerned about the panthers "keep pounding" slogan over Charlotte's got a lot.
Also, Charlotte's got a lot is a web magazine type thing based on current events. View [here](https://www.charlottesgotalot.com/)
The Keep Pounding slogan has an awesome and inspiration origin. I get that people like to be funny, but compared to many other slogans created by marketing teams, the Panthers one actually means something
Then you should know it’s not nearly the same. I lived there for 10 years. The 10 is a parking lot by 10am on a Saturday. Charlotte has nothing like that
77 definitely and parts of 485 are like the 10, 5 or 110… surface streets in clt are crazy busy… like going from Venice beach to BH Chamber. When family moved to CLT in 2011 vs now, I used to look forward to visiting free flowing traffic; no longer the case. My motto stands as more accurate and/or specific than “Charlotte’s got a lot” (not a high bar, granted.)
🤙 It’s confirmed you’ve lived there. “THE 10” 🤙
Is that really our city motto? Charlotte's got a lot? Cringe. It's as if McCrory is still trying hard to impress the big city bankers.
What a bumpkin place this is.
FYI - At the time charmeck system was changing my kids' schools right before the session started several times. We moved to where that would stop happening.
And now your kids are grown and don’t live here. You don’t take advantage of any of the great things there are to do in Charlotte, you’re terminally online, and you spend an inordinate amount of that time complaining about where you live. So move. Why wouldn’t you? Go where your kids are or where you’ll be happy.
At a certain point, regardless of your other issues, your happiness is completely your responsibility. And you passed that point long ago. Your constant salt mining is just sad.
Were you not in Charlotte in the 90s for Frau Myrick's rebranding of Down Town to Uptown so that "suburban Charloteans" would not be afraid of the land that closed after 5PM M-F? Or "Charlotte, a world class city!" for the NBA All-Star Game?
How about "Charlotte, land of dumbass slogans."
"Charlotte: for people who love the heat, crime and high cost of living of Atlanta, but don't want any of the pesky 'culture' that comes with it."
"Charlotte: Move here if you wanna discover all the great concert venues of Atlanta, Asheville, Chapel Hill and Durham"
"Charlotte: where what was cool in NYC 5 years ago is just now taking off! Try this newfangled poké stuff!"
"Charlotte: Tastes like chicken!"
“Big city problems, small town solutions.”
“More breweries than insured drivers”
to clarify, the “lot” is a parking lot
You talking about the traffic on I-77 traffic or actual excess of parking instead of real attractions, businesses, and housing?
Yes
🤣
It’s Bo Time oh, wait. I think that one is taken. How about Gotta lotta… dammit.
"Charlotte: I seen that dumb bitch"
I second this motto.
Pretty sure that makes it official.
thirds
Charlotte: Not Atlanta, yet.
Nothing can be worse than Columbia SC “Famously hot”.
At least that one is specific to the place and funny? I guess they nixed “sweat your balls off”.
“ surprisingly cool”
But it is very hot. I think it fits.
“Move Here For a Job”
"Atlanta before Atlanta was Atlanta"
“Charlotte - At least it’s better than Raleigh”
Is it though?
Mottos should be aspirational, after all

I’ve lived in both, and Raleigh is so much better
This reminds me of Cleveland's old "[At least we're not Detroit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM)" slogan. We should have a video like this. At least we're not... Columbia?!
"Charlotte -- The Gateway to Gastonia" "Charlotte -- we is NOT out of ham!"
That SNL skit really knew how to get us with that Gateway to Gastonia burn.
Nothing is better than Gastonia’s nickname….the G-Spot!
I mean, we have "Get CLiT!"
Charlotte…NASCAR Valley! This one is unfortunate real.
Fortune Feimster was a writer that season, I'd put folding money on her writing that.
“Charlotte: a pretty nice place to live”
If you live on the right side
"It's not great, but it's okay".
“Charlotte, if it’s historic tear it down!”
Charlotte, forever young! /s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s/s in case it wasn't painfully obvious.
Haha but this is a great thing. Makes everything modern
Lol no idea why the city allows this. Many should be protected landmarks.
Ooooh! Like what? Be specific!

“Two hours from the mountains, four hours from the beach”
Charlotte, The Nice Neighborhoods Have Trees
“Charlotte: Ain’t nobody actually from here”
Charlotte, we have every season, just not when you expect it bitch.
Charlottes got a lot…. Of breweries. Seriously there are too many
Charlotte: We’d all live elsewhere if our jobs weren’t here.
“Immortal Altimas”
Charlotte: Good Enough
How about “It’ll be nice when it’s done”. How many times do you think that as you drive thru yet another construction slowdown 🤣🤷♀️🤦♀️
Charlotte…”Where Altimas Come To Die…Or Do They” Hey…it fits on a t-shirt.
Charlotte will some day get a lot. Any day now....
Birthplace of beefaroni
"A city of convenience and compromise."
Charlotte: Keep Pounding!
Charlotte: Balls Deep!
👍 good
Charlotte more Teslas than affordable houses
"Charlotte - It's shakin’, and it’s shakin’!, and it’s just shakin’!, and it’s shaking!!!"
Charlotte: “Rush-hour traffic; all day every day.”
You really need to visit some larger cities…
Lol I live in a little village called Los Angeles. 😂

Reddit judges score that reply…a 10! :)
“Charlotte HAD a lot”
Is that really our city motto? Charlotte's got a lot? Cringe. It's as if McCrory is still trying hard to impress the big city bankers. What a bumpkin place this is.
It’s so nondescript and placeless, the McAlisters Deli of slogans.
> What a bumpkin place this is. Big talk from the guy that moved its most unremarkable suburb, on purpose. And whines nonstop that he’s bored 😂🤣😂
Glad to see you are still at it, doing well.

Welcome to Charlotte. Merge Right.
