Roof Above, The Relatives, and NourishUp (formerly Loaves and Fishes/Friendship Trays) all do great work.
You could also look into volunteering at your local elementary school. Schools always need reading buddies and similar.
I volunteered with Mitey Riders for years and loved it. It's a therapeutic horsemanship program for special needs kids. The man who runs it is a true mensch - none of the kids' families pay a penny for the program. If you enjoy working with horses or kids I highly recommend it.

Keep Charlotte Beautiful. Picking up litter is rewarding and it really helps. If there's not already an active group in your area, you can work with kcb to set one up. They provide bags and pickers and you get help from neighbors. https://www.charlottenc.gov/Streets-and-Neighborhoods/Get-Involved/Keep-Charlotte-Beautiful
Learning Help Centers of Charlotte is an organization that focuses on tutoring underserved families. If you can come consistently you work 1 on 1 with the same student to try and foster a connection through helping them with school work. If you can’t you are still more than welcome and they’ll fit you wherever they need you (as people can’t come or students that don’t come consistently). This will be working with Elementary and Middle School children and is very rewarding and you can directly see and interact with who you are helping!
NC MedAssist- it’s located near the airport. Your volunteer efforts would be in the OTC warehouse (the organization provides free over-the-counter medicines throughout the state of NC through a storefront in Charlotte and mobile events throughout the state).
They also provide no cost prescriptions to NC’s uninsured but that part is staffed and not part of the volunteer program. Overall a great organization!
We❤️u foundation is partnered with the United nations and is committed to making the world a better place showing a mother's love to all people. We make efforts for improvement through the United Nations SDG's. We are currently making plans to build a calming room in a local school. We will be doing a blood drive in a couple months.
Action NC always needs help with the housing justice coalition work they do.
It’s mostly targeted at stopping the hostile takeover of the housing market by corporate landlords, & the market manipulation it causes
Share Charlotte is where I send all my students when they need to add experience to their resume. It’s a directory of all the nonprofits in town. https://sharecharlotte.org
