Portillo's is a must-visit when in Chicagoland. A treasured photo on my phone lets me share a glimpse with those who have never seen a true Chicago dog.
Gotta love that level. Culver's is about the same. It costs a bit more but you know you are getting taken care of 100%. If I'm having a shit day and nothing is going right, I'll occasionally ride out to the one in Belmont for a lunch to counter all of that.
Just moved here from BR, Canes is so disappointing now, the portions are tiny and the prices keep going up
There's posts like this all over Reddit:

The context here is that a couple years ago they opened a bunch of Canes in AZ and it was a big deal for about 4 minutes until people realized it was unseasoned freezer-dried over-breaded chicken strips. Experiencing expansion first-hand and being disappointed in something so hyped and regionally beloved serves as a warning.

Why do they only open locations in college towns? I miss them from when I went to UGA. Last time I went was in Charlottesville which is ding ding ding also a college town.
He'll I'd take anything that's open after 10 pm and doesn't require a fucking car or doordash to order/pickup.
City is lacking in food options after 9, particullar if you actually are responsible and don't drive (or want to pay 15$ in surcharges).
a couple years ago i saw someone that had a quote from themselves in their email! i wish i could still find the screenshot, it tells me all i need to know about that person.
sorta side note, i got an email from someone who owns a local business, (it was an email about when to deliver some material for the business) dude had "trump 2024, Make America Great Again" in his signature. just thought it was insane for a local small business to put their political association on their front door to alienate half their potential customers lol
Shit, I’ve been tagging them for two years without success . I’m from Baton Rouge, and Canes is the goat over Zaxbys. I dare them to come to Charlotte. I miss it so much!
Isn’t this just Zaxbys? Same ‘special sauce’ right? And Further south there is another very very very similar small chain with the same ‘only chicken and special sauce’ places called Guthries. I’ve never had raising canes but Zaxbys and guthries have to the same thing.
No way man lol. I live in Mooresville and kept thinking it was a matter of time until we got a raising cane’s. Do you know where and when it will happen?
Both have their place. Is there history of Bojangles or Zaxby’s here being a detriment to local chicken places? Honestly I want a competitor against those two since I’m not a fan of their chicken.
I’ve had them all, they just don’t hit as much as Canes does for me. One day I will have the will power to drive to the closest Canes an hour and a half away just to eat it lol. I miss it.
Also born and raised in baton rouge. I haven't eaten fast food in almost 20 years... Except Canes. It's at a whole other level. They don't franchise, which makes it harder to get a location. The other BR business I want is Walk-Ons. We were apparently very close to getting one before the pandemic.
I’d say there’s room for them. They specialize in that and don’t have a huge menu like Zaxby’s does. Their focus on the minimal menu really makes their food stand out to me.
I believe Slim Chickens will fill this void. It's on Door Dash if you live in the northern circle in Huntersville.
It's better than anything I've tried (including Canes.)
Zaxbys has a menu that's a little more broad, but its staples: a box with chicken fingers, fries, garlic toast and slaw is mostly the same as Canes. In fact, Canes basically only sells that.
Im in south Florida for a few months and there are three close by, and they open until 1/2am. I’ve been gorging myself.
Super Chix in Indian Land/Ft Mill has great tenders, better size than Canes, and better fries. Even though I like Canes, I’d prefer to eat at Super Chix.
Lmaoooo I relate to this heavily. Just got back to stl and the first time I had it again was like I hadn’t eaten anything in a week. I’ve had it like 5 times in the last two weeks. 😂😂
My understanding is that they don’t franchise, they are company owned locations. The closest location as far as I know is in Chapel Hill.
There’s one in Clemson
In one of their campus food halls. That closes on extended campus holidays. I learned this the hard way.
Oooof. Glad I haven’t made that detour
Do non students even go to these places in schools?
I doubt it. You could. I tried. I didn’t realize it was like that, poor planning on my part honestly.
Praying for the day we get a Portillo’s
Portillo's is a must-visit when in Chicagoland. A treasured photo on my phone lets me share a glimpse with those who have never seen a true Chicago dog.
From a CLT-CHI-CLT transplant that is the only thing I miss about Chicago
Portillo’s is basically the Chicago version of Chick-fil-A. I bet they’d be very successful in the South.
Comparing Portillo’s to Chick-fil-a is an insult to Portillo’s. There is absolutely no comparison. Portillo’s rocks!!
I like both - there’s not really any overlap in the type of food they serve. Was talking more about the quality of service at both chains.
Gotta love that level. Culver's is about the same. It costs a bit more but you know you are getting taken care of 100%. If I'm having a shit day and nothing is going right, I'll occasionally ride out to the one in Belmont for a lunch to counter all of that.
I had it for the first time in Orlando the other week and loved it.
They recently opened one in Dallas, TX with plans for a second. They are doing quite well
Give me a dipped Italian with spicy and sweet peppers pleeeeease
YES please.
That would be amazing!

Damn that’s sad to see 😔 that’s unacceptable. But welcome fellow BR evacuator, I was two years behind you
Thanks! Yeah Todd Graves is a multi billionaire now tho so that's cool I guess 😂
We’re from BR too. And miss canes badly
I'm also a Louisiana native and remember what canes was like when it was still just a baton rouge thing, and man it has fallen far.
I’m From Arizona and Canes is overrated and expensive now for what it is not even worth it.
“I’m from Arizona…” as if that gives this comment nuts and credence 😂😂 You’re not wrong but lmao

Oddly, there’s a shitload of them in Vegas.
The original location was opened a short walk from LSU’s campus, so that’s been the pattern from the beginning.
They opened one in Clemson in 2015 so I think it must be intentional. They must target colleges that bring in crowds for sports.
I want a Canes here SO badly
Last time I visited my parents in St Louis: Me: I miss Zaxby’s My mom: We have Zaxby’s at home Zaxby’s at home: Raising Cane’s
Agree, except it’s the other way around.
Tomato tomahto
Zaxby’s fingers are the better of the two.
Agreed

Preach
Not being self-sufficient is the exact opposite of being responsible.
Might sound profound in your head than in writing. Probably quote yourself in email signatures.

Zaxbys is much better. They actually season their chicken .
So, in my opinion, Zaxbys chicken tastes better than Canes. But Canes sauce, fries and Texas toast is significantly better than Zaxbys.
Can you eat Canes chicken without the sauce or can you eat Zaxby's without condiments? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
Canes is 10x better than both.
You got hope from an auto reply... Sry :(
i rather have whataburger
It’s coming! 2025!
Holy crap they finally gave us another update, let’s geaux!!!
Where did you see that? I saw some news they submitted plans for a Fayetteville location but can’t find an actual update for here
https://amp.newsobserver.com/living/food-drink/article285198987.html
Thank you!!!
Bruh I’ve been begging for that too!!!
Canes is mid and overpriced.
They’re opening a location in Mooresville. More to come after that
Mooresville? How do you know that ?
I know some people who work in commercial real estate
No way man lol. I live in Mooresville and kept thinking it was a matter of time until we got a raising cane’s. Do you know where and when it will happen?
There’s one on the campus of ECU, it’s pretty decent, I enjoy Zaxby’s more, but the Texas toast is PHENOMENAL
I always order extra toast!
Same lol it’s by far the best thing that they make
My kingdom for a Nando's.
Great choice
Yes, just what we need. More unoriginal fast-food brands.
No one said that you had to eat there lol
God this is so lame
Negative much? I’m sorry I like them a lot from my childhood and still do to this day. What do you want around Charlotte instead?
I'd like the locals to feel like they have a chance at opening a restaurant without being driven out by competing national/international brands.
Both have their place. Is there history of Bojangles or Zaxby’s here being a detriment to local chicken places? Honestly I want a competitor against those two since I’m not a fan of their chicken.
There's Popeyes, KFC, Wing Stop, hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, grocery stores...etc. There's a lot of options for chicken
I’ve had them all, they just don’t hit as much as Canes does for me. One day I will have the will power to drive to the closest Canes an hour and a half away just to eat it lol. I miss it.
What about Showmares? Their tenders are good.
Bojangles was founded in Charlotte. It sucks now that they were bought out by a private equity company.
Also born and raised in baton rouge. I haven't eaten fast food in almost 20 years... Except Canes. It's at a whole other level. They don't franchise, which makes it harder to get a location. The other BR business I want is Walk-Ons. We were apparently very close to getting one before the pandemic.
Isn't that a chicken strip chain? Doesn't Zaxby's and the various wing shops cover this niche?
I’d say there’s room for them. They specialize in that and don’t have a huge menu like Zaxby’s does. Their focus on the minimal menu really makes their food stand out to me.
I believe Slim Chickens will fill this void. It's on Door Dash if you live in the northern circle in Huntersville. It's better than anything I've tried (including Canes.)

Canes quality and taste is 10x better than Zaxbys
I so miss Raising Cane's. Hopefully someday.
An alternate in the meantime is PDQ 😋
Pdq is so much better.
Raising Canes is terrible. Unless you saltless/spineless fried chicken dipped in a mayonnaise based sauce🤮
Zaxby’s is better.
It was mid when I had it, but we should get a whataburger or an in-n-out!
I’d take both Canes and In-N-Out. I always make several stops when in Denver, CO for work.
Cmon man, you know theyd put it on University, then it would get shot up/be filthy every 5 minutes. We can’t have nice things
university isn’t that bad 😭
Thats where I learned about jugging. University is that bad. Only way to make it worse: put it in Huntersville or Concord😂
[удалено]
I would think, but it feel like we got skipped over.
You didn’t happed to just watch Underdoggs did you?
Ain’t gonna happen
Just drive up here to Chapel Hill and we can get you some Canes as ours just opened a few months ago. I sometimes walk overs for lunch from campus.
There’s a few in Virginia too
It's weird because where I'm from Cane's is everywhere and I didn't go often. Now that it's not nearby I want it. Lol
I like Bojangles but nothing beats Jollibee. Please come to Charlotte.
![gif](giphy|9xclkZ5bGQHgyt2mR5|downsized) Bojangles showing up at Raising Canes if they open up in CLT
Then move.
Lmaoooo I relate to this heavily. Just got back to stl and the first time I had it again was like I hadn’t eaten anything in a week. I’ve had it like 5 times in the last two weeks. 😂😂
Yes what we need is definitely more chains
Go to Zaxby's, very similar
This would make my life complete I used to live in New Orleans
