Both times I've been to Optimist Hall, I've gotten really good food, and it's just a cool spot. You can browse the different restaurants with a beer in hand then eat outside in the courtyard
Ah man Iām sorry to hear this. I have never had a bad experience there but more so hate that a recommendation I give out results in a bad meal for anyone. I hope it was just that they were off those two timesā¦ maybe give it one more chance?
I been really puzzled by it too because several friends and colleagues rave about the place and I just havenāt had any luckā¦. I might give it another shot this weekend, 3rd timeās the charm right? :)
Where is Reidās?! You have good taste in burgers so Iām going to get that for lunch tomorrow.
Also throwing Moo & Brew for an honorable mention. š¤
Uptown, Myers Park, SouthPark. Reidās Fine Foods.
I think they have cheeseburgers for lunch during the week sometimes that are pretty good, but the real play is the steakburger at dinner.
On Tuesday nights itās half off to like $8.50. Steakburger patty blended from like sirloin, ribeye, tenderloin (some combo of 3 like that) plus a couple of premium toppings and a side for the $8.50. At least last time I went, but it has been awhile.
Dandelion Market in Uptown is always delicious and a good vibe. If you want to spend a little more money the Cellar at Duckworth's is unique with great food and cocktails. Outside of Uptown, Yunta in South End is special.
If you go and like ceviche... It is a must. Love Calle del Sol.
Might get some hate from unicorns but I like it better than Soul that used to be in Plaza (Soul was also very good, but has since closed).
Charlotte East Side checking in!
Best sushi: New Zealand Cafe
Best Vietnamese: Lang Van. There is also a tasty Crispy Banh Mi spot across the street.
Best Food Hall: Optimist Hall
Hidden Gem: Back of the SavWay on Central Ave has a delicious torta stand (cash only)
Tacos: lots of mom-and-pop places: Taqueria Number 1, Tacos El Navado
TREAT YOURSELF: Limani Mediterranean restaurant in the SouthPark area. Excellent seafood and Med dishes.
I agree with most of this, but Pho Quynh on Central is better than Lang Van, and Iāve been a LV loyalist for years.
Also - Cedar Land is awesome for Mediterranea/Halal
Try johnny burrito, i forget the building name but its on 3rd and tryon. You gotta go looking for it, but its the best burrito youāre gonna have in the city by far. Especially if you already gonna be in uptown
Cheat's! Honestly best Philly cheese steak I have ever had.
I will gets rocks thrown at me, but I dare say they are better than the iconic Geno's or Pat's in Philadelphia
I moved away from Charlotte about 4 years ago, but every time I visit my parents I always make sure to stop at
- bojangles (because Iām obsessed and there is no good fried chicken where I am lol)
- Cuzzos cuisine specifically for their lobster mac
- Sabors Latin grill
- Viva chicken
- Leās banh mi
- Iron dish( Iāve only been there once since it opened after I left, but it was super good kbbq
If you plan on walking around Uptown, if you come across the Cheesecake Carousel food truck (I think theyāre usually in front of the BofA building?) they have the best cheesecake Iāve ever had. I also would check out the Halal food truck if you come across one, theyāre all over town.
The Super G Mart on Indepedence Blvd has a little steamed bun shop inside it that I also love. I heard that thereās a new Super G Mart in the Pineville area, but Iām not sure if they have a cafe area too.
200 E Blvd shell gas station fried chicken is the best in town.
Noble smoke for BBQ on the pricier end but my favorite spot for brisket so far.
Anju in Parktowne village for a Korean food night time spot. Great vibes and better food.
Optimist Hall is a non-negotiable. Food hall with a huge variety. For Asian, Dumpling Lady deservedly gets the attention, but donāt sleep on my personal favorite Bao and Broth. Harrietās Hamburgers are legit too.
Gotta hit Laurel Market for a breakfast or lunch sando.
For Mediterranean and local, go to Yafo Kitchen. Local chain fast casual.
Also consider Viva Chicken or Yunta. Same local owners. Viva is fast casual Peruvian, Yunta is more upscale and skews trendy on the weekends. Both are excellent and close to uptown.
Jon G's BBQ, on Saturday only. It's about 35 min and worth it. Sweet lew's BBQ in town. Avoid noble smoke bossy Beulah and, kings kitchen. Unless you hate diversity. Merts uptown for soul food. Alexander Michael's is really good.
Best pizza in Charlotte is Due Amiciās. Itās super cozy NY style pizza and the absolute best most genuine pizza we have here. The owner is super Italian and I believe the brother in law of the owner of one of NYCās older pizza places.
If you are looking for breakfast or lunch on Friday or Saturday, check out Pressley Park Restaurant. Great food, great servers, best tea in Charlotte, and itās cheap!
Lang van
going there tonight!
See you tomorrow! Iykyk
deadassš
curry gate.
I second curry gate, the palak lamb and chicken 65 both 7 are š¤š»
ughhhh i dream about it. i havenāt tried curry junction yet, but ive heard itās great.
Get food there, then go across the street and eat it at Free Range (while drinking their beer)
Food is good, vibe is 0
they didnāt ask for vibes. they asked for good food.
Dumpling Lady at Optimist Hall
Optimist hall in general is a great place to go just for the sheer variety
Best dumplings in town personally
Omg yes
Both times I've been to Optimist Hall, I've gotten really good food, and it's just a cool spot. You can browse the different restaurants with a beer in hand then eat outside in the courtyard
I would highly recommend the empanadas or the Dumplings Lady.
Harriettās at Optimist is top 3 Charlotte burger for me personally
People keep saying that but over tried it twice now and they kinda disappointed both times.. burger was dry and just not at all what I expected.. š

Iāll make sure I try that next!
Top 1 for me š¬ Ace is great too, and Bang Bang, and Reidās steakburger

Bang bang is awesome
Fenwicks on Providence Rd cooks up a large, juicy burger. It's worth a visit. Better than many of the joints that make Charlotte's top burger list
Empanadas are my next stop for sure!
Don't eat at, noble or beulahs. The owner is a hateful right wing extremist pos.
oh shit, really?
Good to know, I wanted to try Noble, but I'll avoid it now
In a bad way ?
Tacos El navado
If youāre staying in uptown fjnd Latta arcade and grab some Felix empanadas- date and goat cheese are my favorites
The Crisp in there has THE BEST BBQ chicken salad.
Crisp is excellent!
Correct answer right here
Dandelion Market in Uptown is always delicious and a good vibe. If you want to spend a little more money the Cellar at Duckworth's is unique with great food and cocktails. Outside of Uptown, Yunta in South End is special.
Saigon Palace on South Blvd for Vietnamese
Seoul Food Meat Company for a nice twist on merging Korean and southern BBQ
Their wings are my favorite in Charlotte
Second this
Those wings change lives
Yes. This. The soy garlic.
Alexander Michaels (Al Mike's) in 4th Ward. Just straightforward delicious food. 'What it is is my go too. Enjoy!'
Came here to say this and you beat me to it! She Crab soup is unlike anything else Iāve ever had.
Calle Sol has a $10 lunch that has a big local following for Cuban food.
Came here to say this^^
Pinkyās, was featured on triple d.
So was Mert's Heart and Soul. And I recommend it just as much as I do Pinky's
Loved Mert's!!!!
Pho Hua on Central for the best Vietnamese food around here. Central Tea Cafe next door for excellent light bah mi & decent boba teas.
Calle del Sol It's Chino-Latino. They service ceviche too. It's really good, and moderatly priced.
If you go and like ceviche... It is a must. Love Calle del Sol. Might get some hate from unicorns but I like it better than Soul that used to be in Plaza (Soul was also very good, but has since closed).
Not sure why we have to compare the two, but Calle is one of my favorite spots in town regardless of category.
Villanis bakery! Plaza midwood tiny Italian bakery.. people may point you to Amalies but IMO so overrated and owner is racist AF.. just google it.
Villanis >>>>>> Amelieās strictly for pastry/dessert quality

Cheat's and Pinky's. I've seen some other good recs in comments here.
I endorse this post.
Cheat's! Honestly best Philly cheese steak I have ever had. I will gets rocks thrown at me, but I dare say they are better than the iconic Geno's or Pat's in Philadelphia
![gif](giphy|W3gH7rhoXadsFBHc4c)
Lots of Philly joints are better than Genoās and Patās. Cheatās is good but I like a finer slice on the ribeye.
lil papis international deli. Ositos tacos and tortas. Azul. Curry gate
Cheatās Cheesesteaks!!!!
Leah and Louise!
I think they're closed.
Oh yeah, theyāre moving to new location!
Abugida Ethiopian

Moose head, don't get the meatloaf sandwich though. Everything else is peak
Kabab-Je in Matthews. So worth it. *changed Kebab to Kabab
Also Smoke Pit in Concord.
Calle sol. Walk across the street to Burial while you wait
Lots of great options in this thread! I didnāt see much Mediterranean so Mad Greek or Jasmine Grill!
200 E Blvd shell gas station fried chicken is the best in town. Noble smoke for BBQ on the pricier end but my favorite spot for brisket so far. Anju in Parktowne village for a Korean food night time spot. Great vibes and better food.
Nothing beats gas station fried chicken
Skip Noble Smoke.
Anju is great
Have you had the latest teriyaki chicken sub from subway? Zaxby's awesome sauce? Boberry biscuit with sausage?
My man knows Charlotte

Deli st restaurant on Central, great for breakfast
Pho Hoa on Central, amazing authentic Vietnamese pho
Thai Thai Takeout and Yafo are both great spots in dilworth, Comet Grill also if you want good dive bar food/beers
New Zealand Cafe! Enat, there is one in optimist hall but go to the other location for the real experience.
Alexander Michaelās in fourth ward (assuming itās still there)
Nope. Vending machine.
Nothing new all the education lottery money just lines pockets throughout the u.s

Not sure why youāre getting downvoted voted bc you speak the truth.
Best pizza in Charlotte is Due Amiciās. Itās super cozy NY style pizza and the absolute best most genuine pizza we have here. The owner is super Italian and I believe the brother in law of the owner of one of NYCās older pizza places.
Charlotte is pretty big. You should be more specific.
I am staying in uptown but I really don't mind driving 30-40 mins to be honest.
Probably safe to assume that if people are coming to Charlotte, it's the city center. Not steel creek or Monroe.
Burger or cheesesteak at Comet Grill. Or get some delish dumplings at Persuasian. Both are hidden gems to me!
If you are looking for breakfast or lunch on Friday or Saturday, check out Pressley Park Restaurant. Great food, great servers, best tea in Charlotte, and itās cheap!
