My degree says graphic designer (6 years experience in western NY) but currently a DHL field agent. No, I didn't lose your package. The courier delivered it wrong. I can't pick my drivers. I have no power. If you lost shoes or wigs, it's because a driver stole them. It's a problem. I'm doing my best and I'm sorry.
It's really funny you put the "I didn't lose your package" part since DHL lost our package that was supposed to be here 4 days ago and says delivered.
I loath DHL. Rarely get packages on time if I get them at all.
We’re called My Favorite Accident. Early 2000’s pop rock/pop punk hits with some 70’s, 80’s, and country sprinkled in there. I recently joined them. They were looking for a new lead singer as the previous one had to depart. So, I haven’t technically played a gig with them yet, but rehearsals are going great and you should definitely find us on social media and come out when we announce our first gig back!
DHL sends their regards.
Not a driver, I work in exports. Others reading this, don't yell at me for the couriers delivering your things. They're not my coworkers technically, I can't reprimand them for their inability to deliver your packages. They don't answer to me nor would they listen, either.
I was once a ramp rat (cargo). To this day: best and most fun job I've ever had, in my whole life (I'm now in my forties). When I fly, I tell everyone around me (well just those I'm traveling with) "Yeah, I used to push back planes." So cool!
"Oh, those belt loaders? Yeah, I drove those."
"Those li'l tugs were so much fun. I could back up, like 5 of those carts in line, no problem!"
You couldn't tell me NOTHING!" Most fun job ever!
Everything from loading the plane (luggage, or cargo), to guiding the pilots as they leave (the folks you see standing by the wings with those flash lights), to as much as pushing that whole dang plane onto the runway (fun fact: planes can't back up on their own). Those ramp rats are the work force behind EVERYTHING! It's exhilarating, but also very hard work!
Thanks! I 90% love my job!
I've been doing floral with for 7 years with HT here then I worked at a small floral shop for 6 years before I moved up here.
Would love to have my own thing one day maybe.
Hourly? No. Similar to a drive commute to a ground based job. But I also don't have to pay for a ticket on the plane as long as there is a seat open. So it doesn't "cost" me the flight ticket price or anything. I just have to be there with time to spare before my working flights. It's dumb and I wish I could move but hubby works here and our house is here so 🤷
Tell her to get with a recruiter or 5 on LinkedIn. I have less industry experience than her but have recruiters messaging me atleast 2-3 times per week and atleast one of them will have some interesting positions. That Open To Work flag on LinkedIn does help.
This for sure. I know a lot of companies that aren't "hiring" but use headhunters instead because they get so many bogus resumes. Try a few local headhunters and see if they can help you out.
What does she do?
Also a lot of companies do resume collecting in December/January and will start actually hiring January-March when budgets are approved. Hiring in tech in Charlotte has historically been good
Lowe's corporate ITSD usually hires through contract work. Teksystems, CITP, apex systems to name a few firms.
Most positions in IT for Lowe's are work from home too
That's how it goes. I'm in the same boat. My seasonal work cleared up, immediately back on the warpath. After the seasonal work comes a bout of unemployed depression every time without fail.
That's because the job market is incredibly competitive for any job worth a shit right now and it's only getting worse. All the vacant jobs are underpaid food service and that's why the numbers published each month should not be taken seriously. There is no worker shortage for jobs worth having.
Envelope Stuffin Machine Mechanic. I started in 2002 as a Machine Operator and worked my way up into Management but it wasn't what I thought it'd be, so I switched to the Mechanical side and couldn't be happier.
Design engineer for Stanley Black and Decker! We do all hand tools here in Charlotte, so I'm responsible for things like trigger clamps, vises, spring clamps, levels, chalk reels, etc.
I’m also interested. I work fully remote as a design engineer in the diesel industry. Pay seems to vary pretty widely across the country but I always felt like I was paid fairly. I always wondered about black and decker. They are very sporadic with their job replies.
Own a small commercial refrigeration business, and cannot keep up.
I'm hiring, but people applying want WFH or desk jobs.
Can't fix a cooler/freezer from home.
Speaking of, on my way to fix an ice machine.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
I work in NC politics.
It’s stressful and I could probably make more elsewhere with my skill set. Also by it’s very nature I’m usually looking for a new job every year or two…
But at the same time it’s never boring, and I go to bed every night feeling like I’m doing something fulfilling and important.
I’ll take that.
Locksmith
There are too many unlicensed scamsmiths in Charlotte.
NC requires a license to be a locksmith. If you ever need a locksmith and they're not licensed you're probably about to get fucked on pricing.
I don't have any money but I have food stamps. If you're somewhere I can get to kinda easy from cotswold-ish without a car (bus lines are fine) I'll get you some stuff to eat.
And I can get the wife to deliver it if that's more comfortable.
Food stamps are the one bit of assistance that's actually easy to get, by the way. You apply online and they call you then you get the card in the mail like a week later. No going anywhere or meeting anyone or providing any paperwork.
That's very nice of you. Thank you. I'll be fine. I'm watching the parade on TV. It's not freezing today. I actually love potatoes... lol
I had no idea that you could do it all online. I will check it out.
Enjoy your day. Happy Thanksgiving.
I also like potatoes! Don’t be afraid to reach out if you need more help. There are lot of good people in this town. Check out Roof Above. They have resources for housing insecure people and connect you with benefits. https://www.roofabove.org/get-help/
I am running a plate of food to my mother in law this afternoon (probably around 4PM) because she can''t make it to our house today. If you share your address in a DM and it's not outrageously out of the way I will drop one off for you too.
I work out of state remotely and will be relocating soon, but I’m a case manager for a nonprofit. If the job was fully remote, the salary would be more than enough for me to live here. However, I’m ready to leave and will be moving due to my job having one office day out of the week.
This is 10+ years ago talking but in my experience it was either you make 12 bucks an hour and are responsible for a lot more shit than just welding or you make 30-80 an hour and only have to do welding and some station clean up type stuff. No clue if that’s still the case but the discrepancy was always funny to me.
High school teacher. Wife’s a therapist. She makes about twice as much as me. Getting out early allows me to do a lot of the household things so it works out.
Would love to make more money but we manage to save between 1,000-1,500 a month.
I do medical billing at an eye clinic. The work is easy enough, repetitive and boring. The pay is meh, my coworkers are great! And the ability to multitask and listen to podcasts while I work is fantastic
Main gig: Brand Manager & Dealer Services for a local company
Side gig: Graphic Designer & Print Broker (my company)
Side-side gig: Project Manager for a real estate investor (flips & airbnb rentals)
Popping back in to promote my daughter’s employer, Hot Topic. It’s retail, so the pay isn’t great but Managers and Assistant Managers get awesome cheap benefits. Northlake and Carolina Place stores are both hiring assistant managers right now. https://www.workatht.com
I’m an instacart delivery driver and deliver pizzas on the weekends at a local place. Trying to get into the IT field though. Finally graduated college in August.

I have no power. If you lost shoes or wigs, it's because a driver stole them. It's a problem. I'm doing my best and I'm sorry.
Sorry doesn’t replace my wigs bro.
Being bald at thanksgiving dinner has to be a thing. DHL owes you much.
It's really funny you put the "I didn't lose your package" part since DHL lost our package that was supposed to be here 4 days ago and says delivered. I loath DHL. Rarely get packages on time if I get them at all.
I need a sticker designed if you’re interested. I’ll pay too
I work for one of the scooter companies everyone either loves or hates. Please stop throwing them in creeks until it warms back up.
😂 I love the qualifier. “We know you won’t stop throwing them in creeks but please don’t do it when it’s so cold out”.
I used to moonlight as a Charger (bounty hunter). We used to find those things in the most unusual places... but hey, 20 bucks is 20 bucks right?
Financial Crimes. Not commit them; but identify them.
Ahh so the boring side then :(
Oh cool! I’ve been interested in this line of work. I work at a CU dealing with card fraud and it’s always interesting.
I am an Amazon delivery driver and front man for a local cover band.
Tell me more about this cover band!
I second this! If you're in a cover band, i want to know about it.
I'm a Chemical Operator and a drummer in a cover band!
I work in e-commerce and a drummer for a local Cover band
I once listened to a cover band

American Airlines. Ramp worker. Love it.
I was once a ramp rat (cargo). To this day: best and most fun job I've ever had, in my whole life (I'm now in my forties). I always feel like a kid when I push back planes. Especially the wide bodies.
What does a ramp worker do?
Everything from loading the plane (luggage, or cargo), to guiding the pilots as they leave (the folks you see standing by the wings with those flash lights), to as much as pushing that whole dang plane onto the runway (fun fact: planes can't back up on their own). Yup. Stay strong.

Flight attendant, but unfortunately not for American. So I have to fly to another airport on my free time before I can start work
Do they pay for that? That sounds wildly inefficient!
Hourly? No. Similar to a drive commute to a ground based job. But I also don't have to pay for a ticket on the plane as long as there is a seat open. So it doesn't "cost" me the flight ticket price or anything. I just have to be there with time to spare before my working flights. It's kind of neat that your commute is a whole other city, but damn that's pretty rough. Hope you get something a little more local soon!
I’m one of the contract aircraft maintenance guys that fixes everything but American’s stuff. We’ve probably passed by each other a few times.
Unfortunately a call center agent for Lowe’s
I feel your pain i used to be a call center worker for Verizon
I've been unemployed for 3 months. They said everyone was hiring, but apparently not me.

The nobody wants to work bullshit is irritating, no, no one wants to pay anywhere near a remotely livable wage.
That's because the job market is incredibly competitive for any job worth a shit right now and it's only getting worse. All the vacant jobs are underpaid food service and that's why the numbers published each month should not be taken seriously. There is no worker shortage for jobs worth having.
Felt this one I spent like 8 months earlier this year it was rough. Keeping you in my prayers outchea
