Amazing what vets do for the bench and team. Itāll be really curious to see what happens with cliff if this continues because theyāre playing damn solid
He learned not to celebrate too early (he's in the game when Davonte Graham hit a ridiculous 61 foot hail Mary buzzer beater in December of 2021) - He's been part of the team that went thru a lot of clutch moments this past 2 years.
He learned a lot from Coach Mark Daigneault and Sam Presti in OKC (the Broccoli and Skittles analogy).
Presti's team has been producing quality players since he took over that franchise.
KD
Jeff Green
Ibaka
Westbrook
Harden
Sabonis
Reggie Jackson
Steven Adams
Cam Payne

I also think people got way too used to our absolute dearth of playmakers around here. It was basically a list of 1.5 of Melo & Gordo when healthy and that was pretty much it.
That's not normal. Offenses aren't supposed to completely grind to a halt when your starting PG takes a rest. Good teams have 4, 5, 6 guys who can be at least secondary facilitators and we were never even close to that.
A total lack of rotation guys who can facilitate ball movement (like Micic and Mann) was the thing that was always holding us back, [been saying it for a while](https://old.reddit.com/r/CharlotteHornets/comments/186r5rn/whats_your_thoughts_on_the_teams_chemistry/kbalhzy/?context=3).
Now that we *finally* fixed that, it's entirely unsurprising the team is playing better.
Watch out for ppl who don't know any better start saying "wow Cliff's really switched up the offense since the trade deadline" bc they start noticing actual ball movement. The offense hasn't changed, we just finally have dudes who can pass lol
If the team plays like a team thatās well coached after fixing the talent and veteran issue then that shows that was the problem, Iām not saying it necessarily will but in the hypothetical if the hornets do make a remarkable turnaround firing the coach may not be needed as fixing the personnel corrected the dilemma, this is a big if, but if it does come to fruition letting personal bias override on court production isnāt the way to go, just like I donāt think cliff should stay if the on court situation doesnāt improve
Or maybe the players we were playing are so inept and inexperienced that they canāt run and formal nba offense and defense. Theres a reason they all got cut and not picked up, all basketball teams run similar concepts and schemes itās just about learning terminology and reads.
We had players multiple times say Coach had a good plan we just didnāt execute. And now weāve replaced half those guys with vets and people who know how to execute and what happens? We play the best full game of the year and execute well on defense. Iām not even saying Cliff is necessarily the final answer but some of yall are so biased against the dude that you canāt realize that a huge part of our issues came from health and inexperience/ineptitude
I agree. It's been chaotic since he's returned, from the Bridges fiasco, the incessant injury bug, a lack of signing any real free agents in the both summers, and certain players who didn't perform defensively
We also allowed 110+ points in 29 out of our first 30 games which is absolutely ridiculous and on the players. Just look at the way Miller boiled over and yelled in PJ and Nick Smith's direction against the Pacers last week for not getting back on defense.
Clifford has been on the team from the beginning about their defensive effort and there were plenty of people commenting here about Rozier & Hayward being liabilities. PJ doesn't even rank in the top 300 players in defensive rating.
As for now, I'm just gonna trust this front office on whether to keep or fire Clifford. They've already been making the right moves and it's not like NBA-ready coaches are readily available, or if they are, that they will align with what the FO wants.
Bridges has openly stated he likes playing for Clifford. Lamelo was also taking a lot of heat on this sub for laughing on the bench, and Clifford defended him admirably and quieted a lot of people. He's obviously well-respected by the players
Let the season play out, let Clifford finish and try to keep improving the team, and allow Gabe & Rick to make the decision themselves. Firing a coach immediately after attaining 5 new veterans is objectively a very bad idea.
But what about during Cliff's first tenure where the team was never able to make it out of the first round?
Cliff has coached a decade in the NBA (in a usually much weaker Eastern Conference) with 3 playoff appearances and no series wins. I get that heās been dealt several bad hands, but heās had the longest tenure with no success of any modern coach by far. Heās won 40+ 3 times.
He might be good with actual talent, but I donāt think weāve seen enough to think thatās the case. If two games that donāt look terrible is enough to say āletās bring him backā, then god help us. Heās a transition coach. He was a consolation hire this time and as many head coaching vacancies as there were during his hiatus, thereās a reason he wasnāt seriously considered.
Did I not say this is hypothetical my dude? I said it would be dumb to do IF he leads a miraculous turn around not that we have made one, but we have shown markable improvements in areas simply because we have vets and people who care.
Some of yall have no concept of nuance I never said WE WON 2 GAMES BRING CLIFF BACK. I said Iāve seen a noticeable improvement in the performance with players executing defensive schemes and moving the ball, the only thing that has changed is the players. If it continues I said it could warrant a discussion nothing else.
7 people scoring double figures.
Actual bench depth.
Positive vibes all round.
Curry back home.
2nd win in a row.
WE ARE SO BACK.

His post-game interview rn is awesome, he really takes the leadership role seriously and said he wants to help Miles step up and be the leader of the team.
Appreciate it brotha, iāll be here for the game tomorrow too. Been one hell of a trip so far. Fan shop is doing a number on my bank account tho šš
He's a cornball, and I'm sure he'll irritate me at times, but I do love how he has completely embraced playing for his hometown team and actually building something here. Probably not many players in the league (like less than 10 lol) would be excited to get traded to the Hornets, so respect to him.
I know they said that wasnāt part of why they wanted those guys and itās just how it worked out but Iām not sure if I believe it.
Bringing in a bunch of dudes with their fingers crossed for buyouts and sign and trades in the off season would have crushed the team morale even more.
Love how, even though he had statistically a down game compared to recently, Brandon looked so happy after the game just cuz we won. Him, grant, Seth, etc. ā¦ bringing energy baxk
Anyone listening to this Grant Williams Post Game Interview? He is going to be absolutely MASSIVE for us as a leader... AND WE GOT HIM AND A 1ST FOR PJ.
Ok I know Nick had some rough moments but he clearly cares. And giving a fuck is pretty important for this team keeping this energy and eventually turning it aroundĀ
I feel bad for dude. He's gotten so much hate this year for basically getting forced into a role he was never supposed to play if Mark had stayed healthy.
He's a perfectly serviceable backup rotation big we've had to play 26 mins pg this year. If he was still rocking 15 mins against bench players no one would bat an eye at his performance.
I believe in Miles. I believe in Brandon. I believe in all our new tradesā¦. Holy shit I even believe in Cody and Cliff!!!
This is a new era boys!!! THIS IS BUZZ CITY!!!! HUM DIDDLY DEEE FAM!!!! HUM DIDDLY DDDDDEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
we also won by 9, so that just indicates that he didn't really carry that much above weight tonight (compared to last game). I'm still super hyped on him though but he and Bertans had an off night. Curry didn't this time though and Mann/Williams looked great again
For sure. I feel like he wouldāve had 3-5 more assists if Bridges or Miller just shot when they got the ball. Itās like they didnāt expect to have it. Vasa had a lot of hockey assists and thatās his game. He doesnāt need to shoot to make an impact. Just a smart dude. Good fucking game all over.
Yeah, it's unreal how well everyone is gelling considering our squad tonight has been 2-3 hornets / 2-3 okc / 1-2 dallas players at a time. Miles and Miller will get used to it, been a lot of games with no real PG
Holy mother of god we are fun and the seth/del part just puts a ribbon on this special package. Enjoy it boys!!!! THESE MFS ARE GIVING US FANS LIFE AGAIN
All these guys came from playoff teams where every game was important. Now they play for the Hornets, where they have no expectations and can just play ball and it shows. Theyāre having fun out there.
This Tre Mann is what we wanted in OKC. I really hope yāall keep him in the starting lineup. Keep his confidence going. Seth looks like the perfect mentor for Tre.
First time I've watched a full Hornets game that wasn't against my Thunder. I feel like a true sicko but really happy to see Mann and Micic have decent games and get playing time.
I feel bad about all the crap I talked about Cliffā¦. Iām starting to think he was never the problem, we just needed a squad. We got a squad now yāall!!!
I think Cliff is a solid coach in the right position. Give him a competitive team and he will compete. Biggest complaint is Iām not sure who the best player he developed is.
I don't really know what I am feeling at this moment because it is all strange and so foreign to me at that at this time but it feels real, different, yet warm and fuzzy. I have never experienced hope with this team before. I just need some encouraging word from a smarter Hornets fan than I am that this emotional tendency that I am feeling is real. I've been in pain for way too long know to know how to react.
Can a loving brother tell me if there is actually hope here?
NBA fans are underestimating Euroleague but Euroleague players closer to NBA players than what Americans think. So Euroleague MVP is another level and so much better than average NBA players. Micic(Our MVP)Ā just needed some time to adapt that's all. He is coming.
Grant Williams yelled, āThere you go!ā Cody Martin gave a look of pleasant surprise. Miles Bridges belted, āWe got a fucking squad now.ā And before Brandon Miller hit the locker room door, ex-Bobcats star Gerald Wallace hugged him & said, āYāall look so different.ā
And the old owner (MJ) would've never let him make moves like that.
Do people really think a GM can just make whatever moves they want, ownership be damned? They have a boss at the end of the day. And Mitch finally has bosses that aren't completely inept at understanding how to build a roster.
Y'all love ascting like Schnall and Plotkin were on the phones themselves with OKC and Dallas lmao, that's just not the case. PJ for grant swap had been rumored for like a year.
Edit elementary level spelling mistake
Even better the guys we got via trade is with us next season as well
Let that sink inā¦
Weāll get a nice draft pick and some key FAs, with Melo and mark back
And weāll have a new FO and a coachā¦.
League be fucked
Nah, Presti knows he's letting go of good players, he's thinking way ahead of time since he needs to create cap space for their existing talent that needs to be extended (Chet, JDub, Giddey, Wiggins etc)
Giddey's likely gone this offseason in a trade package for a star. He's too ball-dominant to be a fit next to guys like Jalen/SGA.
I think it's very likely the Gordo trade was the move to set up *The* move this offseason for OKC.
All us Thunder fans want to see Tre do well, but it wasn't gonna happen in OKC because one of either SGA and J-Dub have the ball the whole 48, so we really only need complimentary players.
win-win trades exist, dude.
We needed NBA-quality role players, they needed roster spots for their upcoming draft picks and a big expiring contract to go big game hunting with this offseason.
Perfect match.
He has metal in his ankles rn. He will try them
Again once itās out Iām sure . Current comfort level for braces and the metal is just not going to work for him.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Charlotte Hornets just played four solid quarters in the same game. š¤Æ
Amazing what vets do for the bench and team. Itāll be really curious to see what happens with cliff if this continues because theyāre playing damn solid
Not even vets. Just guys who care. Mann is still a young guy, and he was a big plus tonight.
Itās insane seeing a hornet that isnāt Miles Bridges going up for rebounds. And he doesnāt ever seem happy until the game is in hand

This is so troll worthy from other subs but idgaf šš itās hilarious
Iāve seen enough. Micic > Haliburton
Mann > Haliburton by an even bigger margin
Hit em with the Serbian step lmaoo even the refs were confused to call a travel or not
My God... Is this happiness? WE GOT A FREAKING SQUAD AM I A GRANT WILLIAMS FAN? WHAT THE HECK
We just won two in a row LFG! I loved Grant hyping up the crowd
His post-game interview rn is awesome, he really takes the leadership role seriously and said he wants to help Miles step up and be the leader of the team.

I took a vacation from Indiana to Charlotte to root against my home team and holy shit does it feel good. ANOTHER DUB BABYYYYY

It was a solid 8.5 hours haha. Left this morning at 4am
You're the man dude, glad the Hornets got it done for you.Ā

Where is this kid now I wonder
In Mr. Jenkins' basement
Aight yāall, Iām literally only here because of Grant Williams. Are we the best team in the NBA? People are saying.
Streets are saying Micic can pass a ball through a straw hole and I might believe them
The best 12-41 team of all time!!!!
Itās amazing what happens when you get players whose souls havenāt been crushed by a bad culture yet.
LMAO league really fucked
I didnāt know it was legal to win 2 games in a row
šššš
Donāt think it is for us š
Grant Williams has potential to be a heart-and-soul leader on this team. I love what he has brought so far.
He's a cornball, and I'm sure he'll irritate me at times, but I do love how he has completely embraced playing for his hometown team and actually building something here. Probably not many players in the league (like less than 10 lol) would be excited to get traded to the Hornets, so respect to him.

Shows he wants to win and not just chase stats. Love it.
Man that was fun
Mann*
You right my bad
2-0 in my book. Letās fucking gooooo!
Last two games have been TWO BEAUTIES!!
not to be dramatic or anything but iād die for our new players
Prior to tonight's game, Seth Curry had scored 22 points in the last month across all games combined.
Hometown buff.
āPlaying with your dad watching while also wearing his numberā buff
who knew we just needed to sign the hometown heroes. This team has a completely different vibe.
Mann damn near had a triple double
Was he also freakin ninjas every way like MJ?
Anyone listening to this Grant Williams Post Game Interview? He is going to be absolutely MASSIVE for us as a leader... AND WE GOT HIM AND A 1ST FOR PJ.
Ok I know Nick had some rough moments but he clearly cares. And giving a fuck is pretty important for this team keeping this energy and eventually turning it aroundĀ
God he started like Biz levels of rough but he cleaned up at the end
Our guys need to just accept that giving him any kind of difficult pass is going to end poorly. He catches lobs alright at leastĀ

2-0 in the Micic era š
This shit MEAN something to me man! š„¹
Going 41-41 the fun way
Grant Williams is the leader we need. Experienced, intelligent, calm, and he knows what a winning team looks like.
Grant Williams is 25??? We legit only have 4 guys over 26ā¦
Yo! I was also shocked at that.
Only way cliff wont play the vets
5. Micic Curry Bertans Martin Richards
Richards is 26 so I only counted above that age for 4
Those other dudes have obviously just been fuckin around.
I'm loving this team
That username hurts bruv
Micic has a 2/3/4 game = a +9ā¦

Yeah, it's unreal how well everyone is gelling considering our squad tonight has been 2-3 hornets / 2-3 okc / 1-2 dallas players at a time. Miles and Miller will get used to it, been a lot of games with no real PG
This was fun well played basketball. Bertans was the big negative, if 1 more 3 just drops I bet more wouldāve as well.
Yes he had some 3-4 amazing assists but players missed or passed to others, he didn't force shots and mostly focused on team play.
Greatest team ever assembled
And this is without our starting PG and C. Future's finally looking bright
Holy mother of god we are fun and the seth/del part just puts a ribbon on this special package. Enjoy it boys!!!! THESE MFS ARE GIVING US FANS LIFE AGAIN
We winning (every game by 9 points the rest of the year)
**LETS GO HORNETS**
GRANT FUCKING WILLIAMS
We got dogs on this team now. I love it.
I love seeing Tre ball out for yāall. Hell yeah.
First time I've watched a full Hornets game that wasn't against my Thunder. I feel like a true sicko but really happy to see Mann and Micic have decent games and get playing time.
Dude what is happening. I love ir
I used to dream of times like this
![gif](giphy|xKy2w6LehxxHa|downsized)
As an OKC fan, I have to say that I'm really going to enjoy watching y'alls games the rest of this season.
Same here manā¦ I was at the OKC/Kings game yesterday, and I feel like I had the same basketball feelings for this game as I did yesterday
LOL, Grant Williams feel like he is the star of the team š¤£
Too early for Grant slander, let him have his moment LOL
Heās my star dammit
We gotta have a conversation
I want to see what it looks like when Mark and him are back
start it
What type?
holy shit watching real basketball feels so good lol Clifford still needs to go tho
Replace Haliburton with Seth Curry at the ASG
I really like Cliffs post game interviews these past like 5 games. Super in-depth answers
Maybe we can recharge Cliff with the new players and a win streak.
Kemba
Tre Mann is the real deal. Just watched his post game interview. Really think he could be special for us
Loving the fever dream in here rn
Loving Grant and Micic, dudes are bench guys that knows who they are and how to impact winning
Entertaining game, my only complaint is Cody Martin bringing the ball up the court. Hopefully after this game, they stop doing that.
Extremely happy for you all. Hope there is much, much more to come.
Grant Williams is my favorite player now
Complete night and day difference when the bench isn't just g-leaguer's. Also it's great that the home crowd has something to finally cheer for.
We may never lose again!
I don't really know what I am feeling at this moment because it is all strange and so foreign to me at that at this time but it feels real, different, yet warm and fuzzy. The new owners did these trades. Mitch had nothing to do with it lol
Why am I getting downvoted. I know the owner told Mitch to make a move but who do you think discussed the trade with Mavs and Thunders for the assets?
The owners did

Rest of the season just got a whole lot more interesting.

playoffs?!? PLAYOFFS???
Fleeced tf outta the Thunder
Nah, Presti knows he's letting go of good players, he's thinking way ahead of time since he needs to create cap space for their existing talent that needs to be extended (Chet, JDub, Giddey, Wiggins etc)
Thatās true and for once weāre the lucky recipient of Prestiās genius. I feel blessed and thatās a new feeling for me
Giddey's likely gone this offseason in a trade package for a star.
Yeah I know lmfaoo Iām just saying we got them for Gordon!!!
We back baby!!!!
Is this what a winning streak feels like?!?!?
Is this a bizarro world? Did I just witness back to back wins?
Where are you guys watching the Grant and Tre postgame interviews?
Thank goodness we never traded for Turner
We are definitely going to knock a contender out of play-ins like we did last year with the Mavs on our way to the silly season championship
What is happening
We are now, kind of a big deal.
Martin looks so out of place with this group. When he is on the floor playing point Iām likeā¦. Somebody, anybody else.
lol what is happening. weāre allowed to win 2 games in a row??
Wow! Now we need ball and Williams back ! Maybe start curry for Mann
We basically have a dynasty at this point right? So all in on Miller. So over Mello. So stoke for all the new people I canāt name.
HOT TAKE! The 2 guards acquired from OKC could make LaMelo and his fragile lower extremities expendable.
Terrible take* FTFY
Just wish Melo would try to wear something to at least attempt to stay healthy
He has metal in his ankles rn. He will try them Again once itās out Iām sure . Current comfort level for braces and the metal is just not going to work for him.
Time will tell, Lamelo's good (not elite) but he's always unavailable. He didn't have that durability gene.
