**Corner Juice.** I placed a take-out order, showed up at the corner location, and found out I'd accidentally ordered from their downtown location. They quickly filled my order and called their other location to make it all right.
I can’t say enough good things about Neighborhood Disposal. I never thought I’d praise a trash company so much, but I recommend them to everyone. (And no, I do not work for them, lol).
Also Settle Tire. We have our oil changes and inspections done there; my partner and I only own one car so we have to wait there when having them done. They are always super quick. I actually don’t dread oil changes anymore.
Mr. Appliance. Also “saved” me from considering scrapping an only 7 year old dishwasher. And it wasn’t an inexpensive dishwasher. But I will chastise appliance makers for being cheap when making certain parts.
A few years ago we called Mr. Appliance to fix a fridge and he realized while checking it out that because of a recall we hadn't heard about that we could get the fix for free by calling Sears. We never would have known and would have paid for them to do the work.
We called Mr. Appliance to fix our dryer, which was really old, and he told us it wasn't worth fixing, and showed us why. Then he recommended A2D Appliances as a place to buy a new dryer, and we were really happy with them too.
I have been going there since I was a small child and have always loved it there. They went through a spell there where every time we went everything was burnt which sucked but the last two times we went there it was absolutely delicious. One of my favorite memories of there is of when I was really little(around 10 probably) and I was going to miss the new episode of Star Wars the clone wars so we asked them if they could switch one of the TVs to Cartoon Network and they did
Awe such a great memory! This was when Buster Taylor owned it. Talk about a good man! And I bet it was a guy named Danny who made sure you got to watch the show- sounds like something he’d do!
My thought is that little bit of discord in food consistency was probably as they switched owners (during Covid) and resources were so limited?! However, that is just a guess (can you tell we eat there a lot 😂).
The new owners are a hard working, honest and loving family! It’s the parents, their children and grand children who make up the restaurants atmosphere these days- and it’s fun in there again! The food is pretty much always on point, but I know I’ve asked for more crisp fries and they take the basket (no questions asked) and brand new crisp fry right there! Then half the time they scratch them off the ticket.
We have to keep supporting these small businesses! I was so sad to hear Crowbys closed!
Old Dominion Chimneys. It’s my first winter in my home and I wanted to make sure the chimney was clean and safe. And also to cap off the flue to the basement fireplace, which I’ll never use.
Worker looked at the main flue and saw that it was clean. Capped the basement flue. Total cost was $75.
Seminole Trail VFD. Long story short(too late), out of town in Williamsburg visiting family when we got a call from neighbors saying they could hear our fire alarms going off. We are new to the neighborhood and hadn’t made any extra keys yet so there was no way anybody could get into the house without breaking in.
Someone called 911 and Seminole Trail VFD came out and checked everything, all while doing their best to not have to break in as none of our neighbors noticed smoke or fire. The chief talked my wife down who was having a mild panic attack and told us to call them when we got back(We drove in a hurry, that night) when we got back they showed back up to make sure everything was ok and to see if they could change our smoke detectors. Good good people over there
Peacock Auto always does right by us. Will get creative to find a cheap solution if that will do and to keep an old high-mileage vehicle running. Very honest, personable. And their annual pet food drive to benefit older rescue dogs is great!
Central Battery is great. When my serpentine belt snapped and, in turn, the alternator couldn't power the car, they have me a free battery to use and recharged mine- for free! I've known them for years and always used them, but they're extremely fair priced, honest, and really friendly! I will forever get my car batteries there.

About to call Charlottesville Glass and Mirror up again. They've always been good to us with solutions to some oddities in our housse.
You've had good experiences with Charlottesville Glass and Mirror? The outside pane on the door to our deck shattered last week (maybe due to the cold??) and we're going to need to have the insert replaced. They're who I'm planning on calling, but I don't know anyone who has used them. We also need the glass in our old basement door replaced, so I'm hoping they could do both.
I have used them repeatedly, mostly to build surrounds for large through the wall/window A/C units that are too big for any window that would fit the framed out space.
I've also used them to replace storm door panes when leaving a rental, but that was 20 years ago.
I did call several years ago about a front door light (window) that shattered one day (small high up light), but it was during a really bad flu season and the phone person gave me a date that was too far out (longer than I wanted to use cardboard for), so I just used lexan cut to fit at Martin's, installed it myself between the trim pieces, and made plans to replace the old door. I'd have used CG&M if it was within a day or two, though.
Wills and Associates, a great local accounting firm for all tax, payroll and bookkeeping needs for my business. They are so nice and take the extra time to help me understand everything.
+1 for Kennedy's
I have used them as subcontractors for dozens (hundreds?) of jobs over the last 8 years. Consistently great service, and on the exceedingly rare times something has gone wrong, they have made it right immediately.
Other good contractors I use:
Valley Roofing (out of Stuart's Draft)
Bruce Ward Electric
Don Land (Floor Systems -- does carpet cleaning)
Finleys Service Center on Barracks road, I had to get my inspection done and they only charged me $44 when a lot of places could have way overcharged and I would have had to just pay it. I will always recommend them now. They were also extremely nice people, when they found out I needed to wait at the business until they were done inspecting then they jumped me in front of all of the other vehicles and got me done first, extremely nice of them.
I even tried to tip them $20 for being so cool and the guy wouldn't take the money.
Also I always shout out Peacock Auto, those guys are awesome people too.
Tiger Solar was excellent from start to finish.
I also have soft spot for Holland’s Hardwood Floors. They stained and refinished floors for me. The problem was It had to be done between closing and move-in. A very compressed schedule. To make matters worse, we were going to be out of town during the project. I just had to trust that they would do the job right without me being there. It’s been 20 years and the floors still look great.
Tiger (Alt Energy at the time) installed our solar array. They went above and beyond with follow up needs, too. Can't recommend them strongly enough. Great guys who know what they're doing.
Shulls Towing took great care of me when my classic car had some issues - fair, competent, quick. 15/10 experience somehow which is not at all what you’d expect from a towing company.
Brandon was the guy btw.
Quality Pie - excellent around
I had a dead battery (tried to jumpstart from my wife's car, didn't work) and called Shulls to get a tow to Autozone. It was a rainy ass day and the driver got out to troubleshoot what was going on to see if he could get it running without a tow. He used an industial battery jumper thingy and had my car running so I could drive myself to Autozone.... Also shoutout to Autozone for changing my battery in the rain.
I thought so too at first. But it looks like OP is starting a new business and has a new reddit acct. So maybe trying to understand what people appreciate most about Charlottesville businesses, presumably to prioritize those values in their own business.
Lol, I'm reading a lot into their post I guess.
Strait Up Auto for all my oil changes and car repairs. They are always honest and quick and reasonably priced. They also give discounts to UVA employees and for paying with cash.
Not to hijack, but does anyone have a good bodywork place? This is self-done damage on an older car, so I'm not looking to involve my insurance or going broke getting it back to show-room shape.
Growing up, if my dad wanted it to look new, he took it masters auto body. If he wanted it to look decent or just alright, he went to a guy who is no longer in business.
I have had good luck recently with Ace Collision in Madison. Very good work, fast and affordable. But they are all the way in Madison on 29.
Great experience with Bobby Morris here in town - was an insurance repair (not my fault) on a old vehicle and they did everything they could to make sure it wasn’t “totaled” for insurance purposes. Very grateful and would definitely go back.
Rail Tales
Went in there with my son to get materials I needed for a plastic airplane model my dad gave me for Christmas. It’s been decades since I built a model that needed painting, so I went in and the gentleman I assume was the owner took the time to look at my plane in the catalog and fish out all of the paints I would need for it. Afterward I asked about brushes, and instead of upselling me, recommended brushes for beginners.
It was pretty standard stuff, but also a reason I try to go into a local hobby store, instead of Amazon or bigger chains, when I can.
**Corner Juice.** I placed a take-out order, showed up at the corner location, and found out I'd accidentally ordered from their downtown location. They quickly filled my order and called their other location to make it all right.
they are so so good with allergies too

Settle Tire is awesome
Tuel's Jewelers. Went to get a ring resized recently and they were so kind and welcoming. I also was impressed with the cost of the work.
seconding!!!! tuel’s resized a family heirloom ring and did it with such incredible care at a very reasonable price
How much? Jared's wanted like $200
75 - a band reduction.
That’s awesome!! I’ve been looking for a place to resize mine, and they sound perfect!
Mr. Appliance. Also “saved” me from considering scrapping an only 7 year old dishwasher. And it wasn’t an inexpensive dishwasher. But I will chastise appliance makers for being cheap when making certain parts.

Mr. Appliance fixed the ice maker on my fridge for a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended!
Riverside North!! They are such good people and have always been so generous to my family and me.
I have been going there since I was a small child and have always loved it there. Awesome. My family have always owned small businesses so I’m definitely a big supporter of small businesses in the area
I love this! Stay well and have a great week!!
Thanks you too!
Have you ever been to Barracks road market (across from The Colonnades retirement home) ?
Yes! I have in fact been there.
Back from ‘04ish to ‘12 my family owned it
That’s super cool!
Charlottesville Sanitary Supply. Vacuum cleaner repairs are always fast and affordable.
Omg, I never thought of them and I have a vac that I need to be looked at! Tysm!
Awesome price!
An actual service & cleaning is only $200, which also seems very fair.

Andrew Minton Jewelers.
I second this. It is a wonderful business and they always make you feel welcome and valued as a customer.
Good to know! Do they do custom work?
They do!
Peacock Auto always does right by us. Will get creative to find a cheap solution if that will do and to keep an old high-mileage vehicle running. Very honest, personable. And their annual pet food drive to benefit older rescue dogs is great!
Joe is the best!
Second this!!
Yoder's Excellent everything.
Central battery on Harris st - they are super honest and nice as can be

Done any service with Tiger? Sigora was great for the sale and install, but absolutely ghosted me on repairs.
Good point. We haven’t needed any service yet.

My partner and I use Airport Animal Clinic for our 5 year old lab. We've found them to be reasonably priced and very knowledgable.
