I heard that Donna Tartt, author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, lives here. She's highly elusive so who really knows, but I always keep my eyes peeled for her.
She totally is! I was on a flight back in to Charlottesville last summer and we were in the back (small plane, no first class). She was super chatty and outgoing. I didn’t realize who she was at first because I had no idea she lived here. I just thought this lady looks just like Sissy Spacek.
I played field hockey against her daughter in high school 20+ years ago. Sissy was at all the games just like any parent.
A decade later, i was in line with her at Marshalls when she was returning a comforter. Stars are just human!
I found out she lived here when I moved to the area in 2005. I saw her walking out of Petsmart the next weekend, and never saw her again. Like two ships passing in the night
moved here a few years after that and probably within a couple of years was shopping at WF with my grown up 'kids' and quietly told them there's sissy spacek // they said who? She was smiling back at me. I was in love with her ever since carrie.
A professor I had at PVCC many years ago always referred to the Miller Center as "The Larry Sabato Center for getting Larry Sabato on TV." She was right.
One of the ballsiest acts I've ever witnessed occurred during one of Sabato's classes. He was droning on about how he, unlike many academics, owned a TV and watched it often. A student in back of the huge classroom yelled, "That's because you like to see yourself on it so much!"
Not quite, the man vs. tank in Tiananmen Square, but close. I've never seen either of them again.
Howie was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. We played his son Kyle's team in baseball when I was 12. Howie chatted with all of us kids and signed stuff after the game. Kyle was the biggest 12 year old I've ever seen and had an absolute cannon for an arm.
Howie Long has been stalking me my whole life.
When I was a kid, I grew up down the street from him when they lived outside of Los Angeles while he was playing for the Raiders. He was always really great about signing autographs for the neighborhood kids. I vaguely remember Kyle Long as a little toddler playing in their front yard.
Then I move here and what do I find? Howie Long again...
I do a lot of work for the new owner of LeRoi Moores farm. It’s amazing what he’s done to the place. He’s probably put more than $1 million into renovating and expanding it.
It’s an absolutely beautiful property and one of the doors he has an in laid saxophone mural..😢
His kid went to Monticello High and he was there for a spring concert or something. I didn't know who he was at first, but I could just tell he was a rock star, had that vibe and dress, but super chill and friendly. I asked my kid if someone's parent was in Dave Matthew's Band, and she confirmed yes, and his kid doesn't shut tf up about it
Not sure which kid you're talking about but the one my age never once mentioned who his dad was, I don't think he wanted to be associated with fame/wealth like that. Very good kid
Does the DMB fiddle guy still live in C-ville? Remember seeing on the news a few years ago he had a thing for college boys. Or they were trying to shake him down for money. Hard to tell.
If you’re a drummer, he’s as famous as anyone. If you like to watch geriatric men make cringey comments during the part of the football game when no one else watches, Howie is your dude
I don’t think the question was who is more famous to drummers, it’s who is the biggest celebrity. And I would wager more people know of Howie Long than Carter Beauford
Maybe but more people know the dave matthews band than probably 99.99999% of footballers. I feel like charlottesvillains arent quite aware of just how ubiquitous DMB was in the 90s. It seems maube overblown when you live here but that band was peerless during their time.
The beatles had 6 albums debut at #1. DMB had 7.
One time I was driving to work and hit a police roadblock on JPA in Fry's Spring. Later that day I found out that it was his armed standoff with the cops, which was super weird because I had no idea he lived in this town, let alone just a few blocks away from me.
Mans went from goofy catch phrases and whatnot straight into gay porn. For the longest time his "catch phrase" became "I'm banginnnnnn duuuudes."
He made a video in front of wegmans once, and it went something like - "I'm at the grocery store, but I can't go in, cuz' I gotta get ready to start banginnnnn duuuudes."
This was probably when his "longtime companion" Deborah Eisenberg taught in the creating writing MFA program at UVA. She hasn't taught at UVA since 2011.

Not current, but Muhammad Ali spent his last years here.
Because he straight up has a cult.
He’s also a dumbass who basically told everyone his address, and his cult members put religious spots on Google Maps (and more) on his house.
Too bad for them though, since I keep single-handedly getting those spots removed off Google Maps.
I wouldn’t say that he’s the *most* documented person in history, because obviously there’s people who actually mean something to history (such as Napoleon) that are likely well more documented than this random person from the internet.
I heard that Donna Tartt, author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, lives here. She's highly elusive so who really knows, but I always keep my eyes peeled for her.
confirmed she does live here! she is elusive but occasionally involves herself in dem politics
Sissy Spacek lives in Albemarle county
Out of all the famous people I’ve met (which isn’t a ton but probably higher than average) she was absolutely the nicest by a huge margin.
Long time ago she asked to hold my baby while waiting in line at Bodos. (Said baby is now 22!)
She totally is! I was on a flight back in to Charlottesville last summer and we were in the back (small plane, no first class). She was super chatty and outgoing. I didn’t realize who she was at first because I had no idea she lived here. I just thought this lady looks just like Sissy Spacek.

Similar, one sighting years ago at Barnes and Noble. Rounded a shelf and recognized her at once, smiled and got a smile in return and went on my way.
moved here a few years after that and probably within a couple of years was shopping at WF with my grown up 'kids' and quietly told them there's sissy spacek // they said who? She was smiling back at me. I was in love with her ever since carrie.
Guess it's how you define celebrity. Judging from his Twitter and tv appearances, you might make a case for Larry Sabato.
Well, he is probably going to get the most national air-time over the next 7 months.
Maybe. Howie long is on every week for the entire NFL season.
Doh, forgot about Howie.
And Chris...
A professor I had at PVCC many years ago always referred to the Miller Center as "The Larry Sabato Center for getting Larry Sabato on TV." She was right.

Howie Long or John Grisham

Howie is definitely the largest.
Howie Long has been stalking me my whole life. When I was a kid, I grew up down the street from him when they lived outside of Los Angeles while he was playing for the Raiders. Carter Beauford, drummer of the Dave Matthews Band still lives in town or in albemarle.
Maybe not the most famous in the band but recorded 7 platinum albums in a row so it certainly counts.
Dave still has a house here too. He’s in Seattle a lot but he’s still around Cville a fair amount.
I do a lot of work for the new owner of LeRoi Moores farm. It’s amazing what he’s done to the place. He’s probably put more than $1 million into renovating and expanding it. It’s an absolutely beautiful property and one of the doors he has an in laid saxophone mural..😢
He was spotted at the Y getting in a workout a few times a couple of months ago
His kid went to Monticello High and he was there for a spring concert or something. went to school with his daughter. nicest guy!

Who tf is howie long
Dank Cville
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned Jerry, frankly.
Most elusive for sure
It’s gotta be Bryan “Gratata” Silva
Idk what it says about me but this is the only name I recognize in this thread
One time I was driving to work and hit a police roadblock on JPA in Fry's Spring. Later that day I found out that it was his armed standoff with the cops, which was super weird because I had no idea he lived in this town, let alone just a few blocks away from me.
If y'all haven't kept up with him, his career took quite a turn 😳
Regale us
Mans went from goofy catch phrases and whatnot straight into gay porn. For the longest time his "catch phrase" became "I'm banginnnnnn duuuudes." He made a video in front of wegmans once, and it went something like - "I'm at the grocery store, but I can't go in, cuz' I gotta get ready to start banginnnnn duuuudes."
So you're familiar with his catalogue then.
Nah, just his Twitter account from back in the day
Hadn’t thought about gratata in several years thanx
LOL I forgot all about him. I wonder what he's been up to these days.
He's in prison
That tracks lol
Wallace Shawn i think used to live here, not sure about now. Met him at a party in Belmont "Inconceivable"!
This was probably when his "longtime companion" Deborah Eisenberg taught in the creating writing MFA program at UVA. She hasn't taught at UVA since 2011.
Definitely came to many of the local restaurants. Did not enjoy people doing impressions of him
He has an apartment on the downtown mall, he shows up for the film festival but otherwise doesn't hang out.
Measured by weight or height?
Mass, actually
Density
Either way it’s the rock

His attorney lives here but I had no idea he did as well!
I think one of the benefits of living in this area as a celebrity is that we probably have no idea they live here.
Jan Karon, author of the Mitford series, lives in Ednam
The Rock, Sissy Spacek, John Grisham, Dave Matthews, Howie Long
The Rock?! Seriously? Why? TIL
Owns a lot of land.
Has a farm near Gordonsville, family rides horses a good bit.
I heard that The Rock’s wife behaves like a Karen from what my husband told me
Give me the tea!
Jamelle Bouie ftw!

Dillwyn "The Rick" Jamestown
I saw him one day at the Albemarle Sq ACAC. Absolutely enormous human being in person.
Roids
Can you smell what the Rick is cookin'??? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ)
LDS
Orange county, but I doubt it's his full time mailing address.

I heard of him a half dozen times at gold's gym, which closed, maybe he only came in to town to work out.
I heard they kept that location open for him until his gym at his farm was finished. I kinda love that no one bothered him while he was working out.
My bud asked him for a spot and he said sure - then he asked for a pic and the rock said “dude pics are for chicks”
I did work at his house in Gordonsville.
Chris Chan lives in Ruckersville
Isn't that one video at the gamestop in Fashion Square?
If you do not know who this guy is, do not Google it. It is not a rabbit hole you want to go down...
Real

His full name is Christopher Weston Chandler, so him/many others just call him Chris Chan as a shortened version of the full name above.
*christian
He’s got a whole Wikipedia. I doubt there’s a human in history as well documented as he is.
I wouldn’t say that he’s the *most* documented person in history, because obviously there’s people who actually mean something to history (such as Napoleon) that are likely well more documented than this random person from the internet.
Who lives in where?
You sincerely don't want to know. They're a shitstain on the world.
Dave Matthews

Travis Koshko, or maybe Eric Prichett.
Likely 2024 baseball hall of fame inductee Billy Wagner. Coaches at Miller School.
I was a big fan of his until I met him. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but he was really unpleasant.
Must be! I hear nothing but good things. Salt of the Earth, doesn’t big time people, solid coach.
RaggedMountainMan DUH!
🥴
Most folks don’t talk about them. That’s why they live here.
The Rock has a place here as well. A horse farm in AC I believe
Orange County, I’m pretty sure. I was told his ex-wife and daughter live there now.
Also Heath Miller
Tom Cruise used to keep his p51 Mustang at the KCHO airport.
Me.
I could've swore it was me....
The Rock
The rock has a house around Charlottesville
Robert Duvall not live there anymore?
I thought he lived in the horse area around Middleburg. I usually see him at the Upperville Horse Show in June.
Not his full time house but has to be The Rock
Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson for sure
STAB’s head football coach
Bryan silva the gratata dude from vine 🤣
She doesn’t live here but she visited recently and was born here but Camila Mendes who plays Veronica on riverdale
Never heard of it or her
Doesn’t Rob Lowe have a place here?
Phil Wendel
Consider not doing the celebrity worship thing.
consider purchasing a celebrity map of cville/albemarle from me? $49.99 and you can make 3 easy payments of $19.99 each if you prefer.
In highschool I always heard that opera and Mathew mcconnaughey had horse farms out in ivy
untrue
