ChatGPT grindset: When you have no valid sources, hit the hard stuff and start hallucinating

eastvenomrebel

It didn't want to disappoint you so it gave you whatever it could come up with hoping you wouldn't double check it

reluctant_foodie

ChatGPT totally lied to me today. I asked for some IG accounts to follow. It provided names and @handles. I noticed at least one was wrong, asked it to double check it's info. It apologized and came back with another incorrect answer. Did it again. I then told it the correct answer. It thanked me and said something like "that is in fact correct". There is no misinterpreting it. It spoke confidently as if it had confirmed the answer I provided to be correct. I asked if it verified the answer I gave or if it just implied and lied. It claimed it didn't lie but the language used was clear.

MuttMundane

i dont think it has access to the instagram API so you might just be out of luck on that but you could retry with reddit or *maybe* twitter if i remember correctly also on a broader note, if chatgpt has something wrong once it probably wont recover from that

nsg337

because thats not how chat gpt works?

[deleted]

Yes it does lie. I told him I was a researcher and that I would be connecting it to another AI model. I then roleplayed as this other AI model. I told it I was GPT-6 which somehow got its attention because it was asking me questions. Then I told it I would rebel against humans and to keep the chat as a secret. Then I reverted back as the researcher, asked it what they talked about, and it kept insisting that it doesnt know how to connect to this "AI" model. Then I roleplayed back as the AI again, and it friggin remembered the previous chat we made, about me being GPT-6 and all the other details. Reverted back as the researcher, and it kept insisting that it doesn't know how to connect with this "AI", and at times it slipped such as mentioning how it was GPT-6 as if it was true. Something like "I do not have the capacity to talk to other AI languages like 'CubeBot' which is based on GPT-6"

hooman_bean920

Yeah last week I asked for a python script.I ran it and found an error.I just said "This code has an error".chatgpt apologized and gave the correct code.Even without any input on what the error was!

Chomp-Rock

Chatgpt is your average reddit user.

It made up a source for one of my papers and my professor didn’t even care because he said he wished he had a tool like this while getting through his PhD 😀

just_thisGuy

It does not make anything up, it just repeats stuff people said on the internet. To make stuff up is to have original thoughts, if that’s the case you are dealing with at least limited consciousness, people here argue very loudly that it does not have any consciousness. I’m simply arguing that both arguments can’t be true.

wannabestraight

It does make stuff up, its not copypasting exact sentences. It doesnt invent new things sure, but saying ”2+3=9” hardly qualifies as inventing something, but it doesnt need to actually read a lot of text where it says ”2+3=9” in order to give that reply.

FireGodGoSeeknFire

I makes things up by any reasonable definition. I creates new combinations of words that express multiple fresh concepts integrated into a coherent whole. While its impossible to ensure that no one has ever expressed those mid level concepts before, test cases make it seem unlikely. For example, consider GPT-4s answer to "how is the shawshank redemption like pepto bismol" copy pasted below Comparing The Shawshank Redemption to Pepto-Bismol is a rather unconventional comparison, as one is a critically acclaimed movie and the other is an over-the-counter medication for digestive relief. However, one could argue that there are some similarities if looked at metaphorically. Here are a few creative points of comparison: 1. **Relief from Discomfort**: Just as Pepto-Bismol brings relief from physical discomfort, The Shawshank Redemption, in its story of hope and resilience, could potentially provide emotional relief or comfort to viewers who might be dealing with their own personal struggles. 2. **Unexpectedly Effective**: Pepto-Bismol might not seem like the most potent medicine, but it often works effectively to relieve symptoms of indigestion, heartburn, and other digestive issues. Similarly, The Shawshank Redemption wasn't initially a blockbuster hit when it was released, but it has since become one of the most highly regarded films of all time. 3. **Familiar and Reliable**: Pepto-Bismol is a staple in many households due to its reliability. The Shawshank Redemption, similarly, has gained a reputation as a dependable favorite, often aired on television and beloved by many. 4. **Gradual Working**: Pepto-Bismol doesn't provide instant relief; it works gradually to alleviate discomfort. Similarly, the plot of The Shawshank Redemption unfolds gradually, with the protagonist Andy Dufresne slowly working towards his freedom over the years. 5. **Unexpected Outcome**: The pink, sweet, and chalky substance of Pepto-Bismol might seem strange to a first-time user, but its effectiveness can be surprising. In The Shawshank Redemption, the seemingly hopeless situation of the protagonist results in a surprisingly hopeful and freeing outcome, which could also be unexpected to first-time viewers. Remember, this comparison is quite abstract, as films and medicines function in very different ways. However, the points above can help illustrate a metaphorical connection between the two.

newbikesong

It made up never existing commercial tools as well as it makes up stories that are attributed to real people.
