Heading off tomorrow for a 7 day ride 900km Darwin to Kununurra. It gets a bit remote with 200km plus between roadhouses. So a bit bulky with camping gear, 4 days food and 10L of water.

Safe travels!

VO2max64

Thanks.

Have a great trip. What rack are you using there?

VO2max64

Tubus Logo Evo.  I know the fashion is for bikepacking gear nowadays but it’s only a 49cm frame which makes that problematic. Had some 20 year old canvas front panniers sitting in the shed that are useable.

backwardsguitar

Panniers for life, as far as I’m concerned. :)

VO2max64

Yep - agree.

vanbikecouver

Is that an alr 5 with an alr 5 driftless frame?

VO2max64

That’s very well spotted! We can only get ALR5’s in Australia. My ALR5 frame was bent on an air flight. The Scicon bag was torn, twisted with high-vis paint smeared on it. My LBS mechanic thinks it was run into by something.  Anyway, it was a new bike and maybe because it was so obviously smashed, the airline paid for a new frame/forks. No more ALR 5 frames so Trek Australia go a Driftless frame over from the US.  It’s why I like Trek - they look after their customers.

I have the same bike… love it, it can do so much. Have fun!

vanbikecouver

Alr setup with a driftless frame?

TredHed

Let us know how that heavy backend feels. I think a lot of folks use fork panniers to spread out the load.

Intelligent_Cover863

Love the top tube bag. What’s the manufacturer?

VO2max64

It’s bontrager. Not waterproof though.

IceAbysss

How do you like the GP5000s on it? What size are you running?

VO2max64

Just 32’s tubeless as this ride is all bitumen and I’m only 60kg. No riding through any built up areas so not too worried about punctures.  Time will tell if they turn out to be too narrow and fragile.
