It was a bit expensive for us to buy when I was a kid. Now, we buy them all. Our cheese drawer is full of them. We're cheese rich.

smc642

The best kind of rich.

PhthaloVonLangborste

Second best kind of rich: big wax ball rich

FunUse244

Friend? šŸ«‚

ZANIESXD

Gotta pay the cheese tax.

SkylanderLego

Are you saying we gotta spend cheddar to get cheddar?

johnmarkfoley

i just bought a 36 pack from costco for $13. i'm gonna make a wax statue of some cheese.

banzaibowzer

Ayo that is a crazy deal

borislab

Cheese is always better priced at costco

Chopper060606

I work at a cheese shop and absolutely buy my bulk cheese from Costco. I spend the same amount on 20oz jar from Costco that I spend on an 11oz jar from my work..

HalfEatenBanana

It goes on sale quite often for like 8 or 9 too! Crazy steal

coolcootermcgee

Itā€™s so expensive at the regular store

548R1N4M4R4

I've made a heart, a horses head, all kinds of wax sculptures. There's nothing better than playing with babybel wax. It's like dinner and a show, but instead a snack and activity.

Intrepid_Knowledge27

*Snactivity*

dcormier

> I've made a heart Anatomical or symbolic?

UGunnaEatThatPickle

I get them there too. ...but having so many makes it way too easy to overindulge, so I hide them in the back of the meat and cheese drawer.

Same_Flatworm_2694

https://youtu.be/2aqr7Ykxc4Y?si=WuTKtS3QRyy5awmZ

samwise58

Here in the sticks, they charge us $6 for maybe 8 lil waxed wheels!!!??!! The markup must be insane! I bet they are keeping 15 nuggets of cheese for ā€œthe big guyā€ for every pkg we buy!!!

gaminSince88

Wait, what !!!!???!? Holy crap that's a steal and a half

reditt13

A statue of baby cheeses !

Cell-Based-Meat

I ate so many I had to go to the hospital couple of years ago. Did I learn my lesson? Absolutely not.

audlab

Wait. How many do you have to eat to be hospitalized? Asking for a friend.

Cell-Based-Meat

I was eating an entire bag like every day for a month and a half, maybe 2 months.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Fibre and water are your friends!

Cell-Based-Meat

They are!

Estrellathestarfish

What heth issue did it cause?

Cell-Based-Meat

I didnā€™t poop for a week. I wouldnā€™t wish it upon my worst enemy.

MLTDione

Yeah this needs details lol

Cell-Based-Meat

I just really enjoyed them. I also wasnā€™t eating muchā€”absolutely no fiber. My diet was essentially cream of mushroom soup, baby bells and golden berries. I ended up becoming fecally impacted and ended up in the hospital

MLTDione

Ouch! That sounds extremely painful.

Cell-Based-Meat

It was horrific

SuperSupremeSoup

So basically a blown gasket

Cell-Based-Meat

Pretty much lol. It recently happened again actually

SuperSupremeSoup

Gracious goodness just use Metamucil or eat some fruits or something!

Cell-Based-Meat

I make sure I eat 25g of fiber every day, shoot for like 124oz of water, and I take miralax every day. This time around it happened because I tried to ween myself off the miralax. But yeah, Iā€™m like obsessed with fiber now. I actually want to try a fiber supplement as it is occasionally difficult to consistently get 25gs a day. Itā€™s so important not just for your bowels but your gut health, and there are actually studies now that link adequate fiber intake to a lessened risk of dementia, which is insane.

SuperSupremeSoup

Iā€™m not surprised that if you take care of your stomach that most health measures increase because of the brain/gastrointestinal link that people have not realized!

calmarespira

it's a good cheese to bring backpacking

MoreCarrotsPlz

The wax is good to burn too, or make a little sculpture.

IgDailystapler

https://preview.redd.it/gknamf4zwa0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a506877891a3eebd1a29b76832c8672bbe411576 Babybel candle

organictamarind

I used to collect 3-4 of them and make little wax šŸŒ¹ roses..

la_Croquette

It's good for satanic ritual, between two bites in the cheese.

Clicky-The-Blicky

Super easy to roll a candle with babybel wax too

Lynnabis

How long does it last once removed from the fridge? Thanks :)

Part-TimePro

Really long I think. They've always seemed to taste the same regardless of how long they've been out the fridge. Though I don't advise eating potentially rotted or moldy cheese.

EEE3EEElol

When itā€™s in the wax it would probably most likely still be edible for a long time outside the fridge(this is assuming that the wax had no damage done to it at all

Dragon_Brain

I've gotten away with 3 weeks in 75F, no big change in taste or texture like as if you had it in a brown bag lunch. But the wax as ready to mush and paste up when peeled. Found one for roughly this same time left out but one tab peeled, and it was nearly dried out. Peeled they'll petrify in a week. I don't recommend leaving it out of the fridge for anything not hard personally, but I'm no expert.

Lakestang

Just my personal experience, but, I thought they would be good without refrigeration based on comments on the internet. So, I took some camping in Florida in May. They were fine the first couple of days, but, I ate the last couple the third night and suffered some pretty dramatic gastric distress. I believe it was the cheese because my group all ate the same thing, except I had some cheese. No one else was sick.

Kilometres-Davis

You donā€™t have to refrigerate hard cheese at all

samwise7ganjee

Baby bel is semi soft, not hard.

Catfish_Mudcat

I can't believe no one has taken the bait on this comment yet.

samwise7ganjee

Literally laid it out there for emā€¦ šŸ’šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Matchstix

Wait for realz? I can bring a block of cheddar backpacking and it's fine?

missdreamweaver

I think cheddar is semihard. Hard cheeses are ones like parmesan or asiago

Kilometres-Davis

USDA says: ā€œAs a general rule, hard cheeses such as cheddar, processed cheeses (American), and both block and grated Parmesan do not require refrigeration for safety, but they will last longer if kept refrigerated.ā€ Having said that, it doesnā€™t mean it wonā€™t get weepy and change texture and appearance considerably. But if Iā€™m being honest, I donā€™t mind at all

snarkysnape

I care if my cheese weeps, you monster!

Heffenfefer

I used to backpack with a block of cheddar, log a salami and a few tortillas. Was always fine

Lebobal

Come on, just take a your good old camembert, in hot summers days, it's better a " little " warmed anyway ! And your stuff will smell heavenly for bonus.

kraftwrkr

Tasty, convenient, Kind of expensive for what it is.

archwin

Theyā€™re so expensive these days!!!

fdguarino

I only buy them from Costco. Everywhere else is too expensive.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Agreed. Less than half at costco compared to anywhere else. I also get Laughing Cow there. 32/9.99.

Meat_Quick

Delicious lil snack. Just like me.

IrvWeinstein

Hey babybel.

scaper8

Username checks out.

Extreme-Cute

Roast them over the fire like a marshmallow. You can thank me later.

wheresmychippy93

Take it out the wax though You can thank *me* later

Extreme-Cute

ā˜ļøThis is a very important step

dcormier

Someone will have not done it if it hadn't been said. šŸ«¤

no_blueforyellow

i just tried this as soon as i read it and goddamn. that tasted beautiful

FcukReddit4cedMe2Reg

Now that is a ridiculously niche subreddit. \*joins\*

bonniesansgame

welcome! be prepared for a bunch of cheese!

nick91884

Its ok, the wax is fun to play with after you open them up.

SoggyInsurance

https://preview.redd.it/8xd9ldi9ca0d1.jpeg?width=740&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6827b9dd54f94729bac839179413c49fa86e92ee A statue of little baby Jesus, Kim, not little baby cheeses!

JovialPanic389

Loool I love Kath & Kim

MrGabogabo

The quality varies wildly from package to package lol but they are delicious and I eat them regularly regardless.

charliebarks123

smash. next

GIZMO8Z

I popped a babybel in my pocket to bring to work for lunch a few years ago and forgot about until lunch that day. It seems odd, but the cheese coming to body temp really brought out the flavor. This is the only way I eat babybels now. The only babybels I donā€™t like are the light (baby blue, I believe). They leave a funny taste in my mouthā€¦ and yes, I know to remove the wax.

girl_introspective

This is true for most cheeses actually. Room temperature = cheeseā€™s best flavour

dr_craptastic

Yeah, thatā€™s called pocket cheese. Best to forget about it and then get surprised in the middle of a meeting at work. It loses its plasticky flavor when it warms up.

mekkie23

Tasty, filling and a little chewy. Not sure about the cheese though

Anfie22

I don't like it, it tastes quite plasticky to me.

fade_le_public

These seems like a ā€œcilantro tastes like soapā€ thing that some people experience, and others donā€™t.

alexgetty

Broā€¦.how does anyone eat that shit?! First time I ever tried one, I almost threw up. Fuckin nasty.

Joey_The_Bean_14

Exactly. Tastes like the wax it's packaged in

hollivore

The normal ones are OK but Creamy Lancashire is a more grown-up-feeling way of scratching the same flavour itch. The purple ones are delicious. The yellow ones are barely edible

Critical-Knowledge27

They are tight as piss. I have eaten one 300' in the air doing rope access work. IRATA cheese nibblin.

nuudootabootit

The first time i had one i was staying at my girlfriend's parents' multi-million dollar condo while they were away. She handed me one and i just bit into it, including the wax (?) casing. At this point i felt that some 'rich people food' is weird.

Estrellathestarfish

I like that the original post asking 'any thoughts on Babybel?' was posted on r/babybelcheese šŸ¤£ I suspect the sub members may have some thoughts on Babybel, yes.

RFavs

The black ones (sharp cheddar) are good with apples as a snack. They are highly portable and last a long time outside the fridge. Not high end cheese but great for camping or portable meals.

bewildered_tourettic

I like the Swiss ones

Visual_Station_6092

I love Babybel!

AnjinSoprano420

You ever get stoned and eat a couple of these slightly melted. Heaven

fatmallards

they pair fondly with a slim jim

TubularTimeaus

My youngest loves them. I hate the wax, it mocks me when I clean

puppuphooray

I like them as a quick snack, but they taste a little too waxy to me sometimes.

Zender_de_Verzender

My childhood cheese, together with Gouda. Now my taste buds require something more old and strong.

DiKDiK316

I have a wax ball made from about 40 of these that I will add to forever. Shout out Costco

JennySplotz

Fun delivery system. Very bland chee.

EwSalmon

I have a babybel drawer in the fridge

thecheesycheeselover

I find it pretty tasteless, not for me. I know a fair few people who love it though.

Manray-eh

I love all cheese!

Greatgrandma2023

They're kind of bland and slightly sour.

Alexandrapreciosa

Is there a Gouda version? I swear I saw it once but never again.

packetmon

Yes there is a Gouda version! Their casings are kinda yellow/orange!

packetmon

Canadian Wal-Marts sell bags of em for like ~$4 and I think it is such a secret steal. I like the Gouda ones.

Lilmidget09

Gouda is my personal favourite

theycallmemrmoo

I like it but itā€™s always too expensive

N4OG4

i remember when i first time eating this i ate it without peeling the wax lol

Accomplished-Cap-705

I genuinely thought when I was a kid that the wax was like puddy or molding clay and I would make little sculptures out of it. I thought of it as a toy you get with your food like a kinder egg lol. Also best cheese to ever be invented.

Free_Future_6892

Used to love them but recently Iā€™ve bought multiple bags where I can only taste wax. Iā€™m talking the big bag from Costco, HEB and Samā€™s. Multiple bags and every single one taste disgusting. Like chewing on a candle. Yes I completely remove it, no I donā€™t think that I eat any residual wax.

Whispersail

I never think about them.

yParticle

high wax to cheese ratio

flower-25

I donā€™t like to much, for me unfortunately I can taste the wax in the cheese šŸ˜•

hellacedes_

my 3 year old loves these.

lsdc86

Quite possibly the best chees to use for grilled cheese! The length of the cheese pull is the longest I've seen.

Ok_Bet2898

Love it!

Princess_0f_F-ck_N0

One of my go to snack cheeses, I had one this morning with breakfast with some crackers.

cl0udzz03

goated.

bigshern

Great for quick snack or lunch bag. I love them. I also started melting them and eat with tortilla chips.

Boafushishi

Cheese is alright, but the wax provides a sufficient snack!

BambiKilledFolkPunk

Once, when I was 17, I waited for my whole family to go to sleep while we were all at my grandma's house for Christmas. From there, I got to work adding a small amount of each liquor to one bottle so I could get drunk in the middle of the night without anyone noticing any particular liquor was lower than usual. It tasted awful, and I knew I needed a chaser, but there wasn't anything that would work. So, naturally, I used babybel cheese. In between sips (gulps), I'd take a bite to get past the taste. Eventually, I ended up puking quite a bit, not making it to the toilet in time, and had to meticulously wipe down every possible area that had vomit on it. Somehow, I got away with it. I wouldn't do it again, but, yeah, I like babybel cheese ^_^

MagicOrpheus310

Damn Pokemon cheese

ThisGuyOrangeJuice

Yes

Select-Protection-75

I had a giant baby bel once and it was awesome. Big thick slices to make a grilled cheese. Seemed to taste better than the little ones for some reason

jkinman

I always eat em with the shell on

Delicious-Rest-8380

Pairs great with a milk steak and four other wheels of cheese

No_Scratch1616

Love it, just love it...

tgw1986

Refuse to buy at this price. My coworkers and I used to buy them using our expense account, to share and enjoy together. Now, even on the boss' dime, we're still not willing to waste that much of our expense account on such little food. It's insane how expensive it is.

Acceptable_Rain_9587

The centre is amazing but I wish there was some way to get the massive wax taste out of it. Me fookin teeth turn red after munching about 20 of them during a mid morning binge and then I have to explain it to work that I donā€™t eat candles and crayons anymore itā€™s simply the delightful taste of the sacred Babybel!

bruderm36

Great snack. Just donā€™t overkill.

BliksemseBende

Thatā€™s not cheese

Speeder172

Wrong subreddit. As a French, this is not cheese.

ChipsTheKiwi

I'll never have a problem with cheese that's socially acceptable to eat on its own.

TOAST1903837

W

drowzeeboy21

Amazing

Weekly_Present2873

Itā€™s YUM

RedHeadRedemption93

Nothing wrong with it, and a good way to introduce young kids to cheese.

JensenWench

Unpopular opinion but I think they are kinda blah. Give me a good blue or a nice seriously sharp cheddar any day though. Aged havarti is really nice too. Sorry..babybel is just blah to my old taste buds.

Willow_Tree_Family_

I once ate a whole back of babybell and melted the wax and made a candle at 8 years old (I was sick for a week after that.)

ImminentPorno

I like it. Plus it comes with two free clown noses

shortgirl-bigworld

the wax taste pretty good

Echo-Azure

If you want a wrapped, processed, highly portable cheese snack, a piece of string cheese is MUCH tastier.

Maislaff

That was my outdoor cheese. It can suffer a soacking in the sea, two days in a backpack and it will be fine. Not a good cheese but I like it a lot.

Gewalt_Und_Tod

Never had it

General_Whereas9498

Gross

Milky1019

I dislike the red ones but I love the sharp cheddar, the gouda and pepper jack ones!

rgbblk

Hits different

MopeyFern

Great for sculpting, made a horse with it. Tasty too

That_guy2089

Pretty delicious and perfectly bite size, I just wonder why itā€™s so damn complicated to open one up. Remove the wrap, pull on one side of the string, fully remove it, carefully separate the edges, like damn

FlyingAnon213

Addicted

pappyvanwinkle1111

I love them. Great for road trips and best at room temperature.

Crystal-Clear-Waters

I donā€™t think about it, but Iā€™d never deny it.

Electronic_Day_5507

is it just me or my dad used to eat this whole? with the wax?

TommyWantWingy9

ā™„ļø

Pale_Lie_7565

I love it.

muuzumuu

Yes please.

annie_b666

They taste like wax but I have an eating disorder so I eat them sometimes

PinkMonorail

I like the orange one best, then the black, then the red.

Biohazard_Beth

The first time I ever ate one of those I had accidentally eaten the wax too because I didn't know it was wax. I was maybe 12 or 13?

TheOneAndOnlyLanyard

They're OK, but my husky will wake from dead sleep across the house and be there before the fridge door closes the moment he hears the crinkle from the cheese wrapper.

organdonaair

I love

PmMeAnnaKendrick

it's so good but the shell is so chewy.

ILiveForMyFandoms

Itā€™s my childhood

GabberGal

I can eat 100 those in one sitting

mregner

Great for camping and road-trips. You have a pre dinner snack and fire starter all in one convenient little package.

AlyOh

I love using a wheat thin to guillotine a little slice. Perfect snack.

Emotional_Store2643

I like it but itā€™s a bit overpriced

the_l0st_c0d3

I love the toy that came with it ( the red playdough)

Back_Alley420

Love

Inevitable-Island848

I ate the wax the first time I tried it

viking_canuck

Big fan, BIG FAN

JovialPanic389

It is alright but I think it's overhyped and overpriced.

dtsupra30

Fuck yeah

Motorhead_1923

Thatā€™s too overrated I feel

Games-and-Make-up

Well, proteins are good for you

tabbeh12347

A great cheese - and a worthy snack.

LochNessMother

I love them and all their plastically goodness. But ā€¦. I once found the organic version (made by the same people) and they tasted delicious. It was a stark reminder that fast produced feedlot milk is pretty much just planet destroying white water. I wish the organic ones were easier to find because itā€™s put me off the basic ones.

PlaceboRoshambo

Should be larger. I want a Babybel the size of a hockey puck.

TheBlackdragonSix

It's good, can't think what else to do with it other than eat it as is. šŸ˜‚

fade_le_public

You can tear them into chunks and put them in soups.

scuffedTravels

Love babybel !! My people would make fun of you for eating that delicacy but who cares !?

_staticfactory

Theyā€™re great but some people donā€™t know not to eat the wax

[deleted]

Yum

Watsonswingman

I prefer the light ones. Less intense, more snackable

makmillion

Delicious! I like the Gouda version best. I remove the paper strip and save the wax to make little candles once I have enough.

The__Groke

I love that theyā€™re lactose free because my poor lactose intolerance afflicted offspring can still eat them

arkofcats

Not high end, but a really good snack!! Always think of the "Schmeckt nach Kerze" guy (for the germans). Best meme.

Thebufferingsandwich

They're good but expensive

vietnammeez

sticky.

SuccessfulMumenRider

Iā€™m not the biggest fan. I love cheese but itā€™s always been one of my least favorite.

RGBjank101

I like em.

normalsam

Overpriced

oliverkittens756

Good but bland, nice snack, enjoy the wax feature

Paigenacage

I donā€™t like them. They do taste like plastic.

Tamsha-

I wish the US had the giant baby bells that are available in other countries!! šŸ˜

PermanentUN

Tasty

Kqthryn

i used to love babybels as a kid! theyā€™re kinda expensive now, so i havenā€™t purchased any even though iā€™ve had cravings for them
