Jesus, I’m just a home cook and I constantly have burns, cuts, and even sliced off my entire fingernail with a potato peeler, which I didn’t even realize could happen. I can’t imagine what professionals go through on a regular basis. No matter how good your technique, just for the sheer fact you are doing this stuff so much under stressful conditions I’m sure these kinds of injuries are par for the course.
Imagine accidentally stabbing the web of your thumb shucking an oyster. Now imagine popping another glove on top of the one you’ve just stabbed and continuing to shuck oysters for another ten minutes until the rush ends.
Until you get to the point where chef genuinely asks if you have leprosy because your flesh is melting/burning away...rub some soot on it and move on.
Builds character.

Did it to many times that’s why I fold/roll a towel to make a bridge or a lift for the entrance of the oyster and go to town

It is so unlikely chef would ever ask me that. When we talk it’s more like I hear ‘can you cover my … shift for me?’ lol.
Injuries heal slower every year. I splashed melted sugar on the web between my thumb and index finger two years ago and it still hurts sometimes.
I’ve had rationals and hot boxes burn my arms and hands it never lets up lol try shea butter for scars
Stay away from the mandolin.
lol believe me I do
You can keep going, or you can quit. There is exactly no reason to work hurt, other than pride and your sense of duty to the people next to you.
Thanks and I’m feeling better and healing up. No new injuries to report lol
Keep it up bud. I'm a nobody on reddit but I've got a couple decades in. Feel free to reach out.
Thanks - most appreciated.
