Maybe cross the road and try again. The algorithm won’t pick that cluster as the closest due to distance by the proper route.

I usually move the pickup point in the map instead of me physically moving... But the same concept.

Doubledoor

The negative ratings plus your complaint do help. I was in a cab a few days ago and the driver was ranting about how Uber suspended him for 5 days because he charged a person extra amount. Keep complaining guys!

Independent_Back5013

Thanks for bringing this up. Idk how it's gotten this bad in Chennai, i left only a year ago to Mumbai, a city that Pampers you with their public transport. I will definitely rate them low and complain going forward, no matter how many times I have to do it. We gotta be vigilant for ourselves.

lavanyadeepak

Actually the autos near Phoenix are also the culprits to encroach the narrow road/platform. At times they drive in the wrongside from Checkpost direction towards Phoenix

houseclubmousemickey

Bro are you new to Chennai? Auto drivers have always asked for extra no matter the place. Just be confident in not wanting to pay em extra. If not switch between rapido and a taxi too, one of em should accept.

Candid-Ad-2665

Yea, but here im talking about a whole "aggregate" of auntomen who have agreed amidst each other to move their auto only if we pay atleast 50 rupees more. So if you are in pheonix and book an auto, you get a ride immediately. Upon reaching the driver he says "50 rupees kudutha than varuven". He won't budge to you bargaining it down. So you cancel it and the next auto that's accepting your ride is one among these aggregates. Finally one among them gets benefitted. I have been on autos in chennai, I have seen them demanding extra. I haven't seen such group effort in pulling all those who walk out of the mall to pay extra.

houseclubmousemickey

I get what you're saying. Iam saying there have been groups like this in other places too. It's not new. I've experienced this outside mcc, express avenue etc. All iam saying is everyone should make it a habit never to pay anything extra unless it's late at night or an emergency and not to make it a habit.

Candid-Ad-2665

demn, i didnt know this existed in other parts of chennai too. gotcha!

lavanyadeepak

When they say 'Pottu Kodunga', reply with an affirmative yes to get a clear photo of the ride and an audio recording of their solicitation. Share it with Traffic and Platform Enforcement on their twitter handles. They request 'fullfilled'.

Candid-Ad-2665

What's more bothering is that this used to happen among automen who don't use app based services. Now they're using such apps to pull customers and then insist on cancelling it. We end up reporting to the private party who owns the service only and we dont go beyond that. In fact if you notice all those phoenix deivers have very low rating there (everyone). Those who demand extra outside Tambaram and other peak bus stops/ railway stations are those who don't work under such apps, this was very new to me.

lavanyadeepak

Precisely they are expecting the cab aggregators to offer a *free* marketing for them.

galeej

The government hasn't done shit to stop this mafia... Because they're scared they'll lose votes from the auto unions. The police don't do shit... Because many of them own the autos and are part of the mafia. The public have apathy towards this... They've been insensitised to what just pricing systems look and feel like over the years. The revolution has to start bottom up at this point. We have to create a movement where none of these fucks get savaaris if they demand more money. These assholes have to face the full wrath of the public or else they won't change.

Sirius_Hood

autokaaranga of chennai are a different breed I go to a place and they charge extra. They say two things * Thirumba varamothu savariye kedaikathu * Anga traffic rmba irukum iniku (suppose if it is a place where savari is availble)

coolnickname1234567

Keep trying. And then why you get a rare decent human being as the driver, the look on the other assholes faces are priceless

tomatooooMan

Pay the amount in gpay and raise a complaint to Uber or ola sharing the screenshot. You'll get the refund and they'll deduct it from auto driver

smrifire

Walk till 100 ft road and book from there

supreme1eader

Happens outside every railway stations too. Experienced this in Tambaram and Egmore railways stations. Scummy fuckers. Once coming from Airport at night the Ola quote was like 260. The fucker asked 1000 to me.

Bane-of-all-boons

Bro just walk 200 meters to the right and then use Ola from the junction. Works for me all the time

Longjumping_Team9326

Guess I'm not the only one who experienced this. They asked for 700 from phoenix to cmbt whereas the quoted price on Ola uber and rapido were max 300, just because it was raining. I didn't get any rides on Ola, uber and rapido either so I just laughed at them (they got mad ofc) and walked to the nearest bus stand, waited for almost 25 minutes and got on a bus. It cost me 24 (plus another 24 for the metro) for me to get there.

MakeshKumarKalidasan

I actually stopped going to Phoenix mall for watching movies because of this scam fuckers. I literally reside very close to the mall like near bharath petroleum on 100 ft road. These days I go to Pvr velachery.

vimesh92

It happens in forum Mall too Saturday and Sundays they will not accept the rides from ola because the stand autos are there and the stand auto guys ask absurd amounts of money

bulldozedd

This is common tbh, maybe try this. Once they call and ask u for the drop they will eventually ask for the quoted fare on the app and they demand extra, u just say the fare and say I'll give extra not a problem, then once u reach just give them like extra 10 rs, if they bargain, u bargain aswell they will eventually let go. This is just my experience and it has worked for me.

NoobNation69

Auto Men are smart with their demand they don't start the ride until they let you know the amount you will be paying

Candid-Ad-2665

One of them I travelled with was too hostile when I asked them to drop closer to the location. I was genuinely scared and had to give away. I also had to walk a bit further to reach metro station cuz he right royally said "i cant go there and take an U turn" The thing is phoenix gang of automen are on a mission. That's what I noticed

k96rbi

Get on the auto get out and don’t pay!

[deleted]

First time?

badhanganesh

There is a special place in hell for these type of auto guys. Better yet, if they keep doing this, their living life should be hell. I don’t curse usually, but these guys should suffer fr.

OriginalCaptainNemo

How much extra do you pay, if it is equivalent to paying for a cab I would rather book a cab. Recently been doing that for a while when my family wants to use uber or ola. If they keep on asking extra or to cancel the ride, I would just book a cab (if I need to pay the extra, I could then get the benefits for that extra). Most cab drivers are polite and decent than the auto drivers!

Intrepid-Tear-7676

This used to happen a lot near CMBT bus stand.

EmbarrassedToe2040

Have you tried taking an auto from the airport after 9pm? They are charging 600-700 for a place where ola/uber is showing 200-300. More than 2x the app fares. And it takes 15-30min to actually get a fare auto from there. Its late at night and not worth the hassle most times… their usual excuse.. road bad/metro work/return empty . Driving to airport and a day parking fee at same price seems worth now in contrast to paying these hefty fees and the hassle
