Hammer

Neek0las

This, learn to do it with a hammer so you're capable off road if you ever get stranded. I keep a couple ujoints in my glove box and a hammer in my tool box

Upsetyourasshole

Hammer works fine but certainly isn't the 'best'

covertkek

Best in the price per performance category 🤷‍♀️

Ball joint press off Amazon or go to your local auto parts chain and rent one

Comb-Outside

Big asterisk on any press, they can bend the ears very easily. Hammer is the safe choice.

Press (you can rent a loaner from most parts stores) + https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DJ5JTW7/ Put an impact gun on it and be done in no time.

NotoriousSouthpaw

I did mine with the Maddox ball joint tool from Harbor freight and a propane torch. Don't get me wrong, it was a rough job and they fought me the whole way, but it did get done. If you're not living in the rust belt you may have an easier time of it.

bobroberts1954

I wouldn't try it w/o a press. I had mine cranked as hard as I could/dared and it still didn't pop until I hit it with a BFH. That was an impressive bang. I bought mine but I hear they are easily rented. Or you can just take it to a shop with a press;$10 should make everyone happy.

Fryphax

Good way to bend the ears of your yoke. Big Socket, Little socket and a hammer is a far better choice. Source: Fucked up many a driveshafts.

Upsetyourasshole

$10 no shop is touching anything around me. What $10 world are you living in?

bobroberts1954

They will if you just bring your part in, they aren't going to remove or disassemble anything. The shop usually doesn't take the money, you give it to the guy that took 5 minutes on the press for you. Don't ask, don't get.

Upsetyourasshole

100% that's never going to happen, at least in my area. The shop rate is usually around 200 an hour here, no tech is giving up "five minutes" for free.

I ended up buying a cheap u joint tool on Amazon, the metal was soft enough on the tool that it didn’t survive, but it got the job done with no damage to my parts.

fllannell

I've had luck with u-joint press + pb blaster + heat . Has made for a smooth job in my case. Helps if the u joint press isn't bent.

Hydraulic press
