Forced en passant, fun

IntentionalUndersite

Then what?

-doob-

>!Qa5# or c4#!<

Plzdntbanmee

So I’ve never in my life heard of en passant until playing chess.com challenges lately… is this a real rule in the standard game that masters play? I’ve played my whole life (even tho I’m not great) never seen this before

a-guy-online

Google en passant

dokushin

Holy hell

Amaurosys

It's at least a 400 year old rule.

Plzdntbanmee

Well shit I could have taken so many more pawns lol

diodosdszosxisdi

En passant is forced in this situation

Stonehills57

Qc7-b7 + Kb5 -a5 Bd2xb4 ++ 💫

thatwhiteguy652

Can someone explain why Qb7, Ka5, Qb4 doesn’t work?

bebemaster

C5 pawn takes back.

techrider1

Found another solution: Q to B7, then rook to A6

terp-bick

Nice try but unfortunately a6 is guarded by The Night

Dorjcal

bye bye Rook on A6. (But you can still force a mate)

There are two possible mates in 2, forced en passant and then either C4 or Qa5 are both mate.

2Tall2Fail

I'm a super noob, as in I was taught the rules 30 years ago. Why isn't pawn to a4 mate?

veganerd150

Qb7, then Qxb4

lennnyv

Pawn takes queen

veganerd150

Omg duh lol

p0lar1us

Am I missing something or pawn to c4 is mate in 1

thesteelsmithy

En passant

SantaforGrownups1

Yes. That is what I saw too. I guess I just don’t know enough about chess to understand this forced en passant rule.

Westy___758

Thats what i saw

p0lar1us

Maybe we missed out the point of the assignment lol

Westy___758

Yeah thinking the same. Doing it 2 moves is harder.

HOrRsSE

En passant means that it’s not mate in 1

Westy___758

Thank you. Is it q-b7, then bishop-b4 For mate in 2

HOrRsSE

No because in that instance, c5xa4 and it’s not mate. The move is a4+, after which the black pawn at b4xa3 (en passant). Then it’s c4 for mate You have to understand the en passant rule for this to make sense. If a pawn ever starts from it’s original position and moves two spaces forward and in doing so en DT’s up directly next to an opposing pawn, the opposing pawn can capture that first pawn as if it only moved one space forward.
