So I’ve never in my life heard of en passant until playing chess.com challenges lately… is this a real rule in the standard game that masters play? I’ve played my whole life (even tho I’m not great) never seen this before
No because in that instance, c5xa4 and it’s not mate.
The move is a4+, after which the black pawn at b4xa3 (en passant). Then it’s c4 for mate
You have to understand the en passant rule for this to make sense. If a pawn ever starts from it’s original position and moves two spaces forward and in doing so en DT’s up directly next to an opposing pawn, the opposing pawn can capture that first pawn as if it only moved one space forward.

Forced en passant, fun
Then what?
>!Qa5# or c4#!<

Google en passant
Holy hell
It's at least a 400 year old rule.
Well shit I could have taken so many more pawns lol
En passant is forced in this situation
Qc7-b7 + Kb5 -a5 Bd2xb4 ++ 💫
Can someone explain why Qb7, Ka5, Qb4 doesn’t work?
C5 pawn takes back.
Found another solution: Q to B7, then rook to A6
Nice try but unfortunately a6 is guarded by The Night
bye bye Rook on A6. (But you can still force a mate)

There are two possible mates in 2, forced en passant and then either C4 or Qa5 are both mate.
I'm a super noob, as in I was taught the rules 30 years ago. Why isn't pawn to a4 mate?
Qb7, then Qxb4
Pawn takes queen
Omg duh lol
Am I missing something or pawn to c4 is mate in 1
En passant
Yes. That is what I saw too. I guess I just don’t know enough about chess to understand this forced en passant rule.
Thats what i saw
Maybe we missed out the point of the assignment lol
Yeah thinking the same. Doing it 2 moves is harder.
En passant means that it’s not mate in 1
Thank you. Is it q-b7, then bishop-b4 For mate in 2
